Exact solutions are obtained for transient torsio- nal responses of a finitely long, functionally graded hollow cylinder under three different end conditions, i.e. free-free, free-fixed and fixed-fixed. The cylinder with its external surface fixed is subjected to a dynamic shearing stress at the internal surface. The material properties are assumed to vary in the radial direction in a power law form, while keep invariant in the axial direction. With expansion in the axial direction in terms of trigonometric series, the governing equations for the unknown functions about the radial coordinate r and time t are deduced. By applying the variable substitution technique, the superposition method and the separation of variables consecutively, series-form solutions of the equations are obtained. Natural frequencies and the transient torsional responses are finally discussed for a functionally graded finite hollow cylinder.  相似文献

In this article, a formulation for a hollow cylinder reinforced with an electroelastic layer is investigated. The hollow cylinder and its electro-elastic coating are under the Saint-Venant torsional loading. First, the solution to the problem containing a Volterra-type screw dislocation is obtained by using the Fourier transform. The problem is then reduced to a set of Cauchy singular integral equations by the distributed dislocation method. Finally, several examples are presented to show the effect of the electro-elastic coating on the reduction of the stress intensity factors at the crack tips.  相似文献

Summary A numerical technique is proposed to obtain the solution for the transient torsional wave propagation in a transversely isotropic cylinder when a torque is suddenly applied to its end surface. The dynamic behavior in the vicinity of the impact end of the transversely isotropic cylinder is studied. The stability and convergence of the present numerical technique and the validity of the numerical solution are examined.  相似文献

This paper studies the fracture behavior of a thermoelastic cylinder subjected to a sudden temperature change on its outer surface within the framework of non-classical heat conduction. The heat conduction equation is solved by separation of variable technique.Closed form solution for the temperature field and the associated thermal stress are established. The critical parameter governing the level of the transient thermal stress is identified.Exact expression for the transient stress intensity factor is obtained for a crack in the cylinder. The difference between the non-classical solutions and the classical solution are discussed. It is found that the traditional classical heat conduction considerably underestimates the transient thermal stress and thermal stress intensity factor.  相似文献

Nonlinear torsional waves propagating along an infinite isotropic cylinder are considered. The hyperelasticity of the cylinder is described by the Murnaghan potential. An approximate analytical solution of the problem is obtained. The evolution of the initial waveprofile in cylinders made of composite materials reinforced with microscale particles is simulated numerically. It is shown that the approximation used to describe the variation in the amplitude inward the cylinder is quite accurate. The present paper is concerned with the propagation of torsional surface waves in a heterogeneous anisotropic half-space under the initial compressive stress. The heterogeneity in the half-space is caused by the linear variation in rigidity, initial compressive stress and density. The solution part of the problem involves the use of Whittaker function. The dispersion equation has been obtained in a closed form, which shows the variation of phase velocity with corresponding wave number. Effects of anisotropy and initial stress have been shown by the means of graphs for different anisotropic materials. It has found that the phase velocity of torsional waves decreases with increment in initial stress and inhomogeneity. Obtained phase velocity of torsional surface wave is found to be less than the shear wave velocity, which agrees with the standard result.  相似文献

The exact solutions for the motion of a Maxwell fluid due to longitudinal and torsional oscillations of an infinite circular cylinder are determined by means of the Laplace transform. These solutions are presented as sum of the steady-state and transient solutions and describe the motion of the fluid for some time after its initiation. After that time, when the transients disappear, the motion is described by the steady-state solution which is periodic in time and independent of the initial conditions. Finally, by means of graphical illustrations, the required times to reach the steady-state are determined for sine, cosine and combined oscillations of the boundary.  相似文献

Using the method of singular integral equation and the crack-cutting technique, the rigorous solutions are obtained for a cylinder with a rectangular hole and a rectangular cylinder with a crack, which exactly satisfy the boundary conditions and the conditions at the corner points. After that the torsional rigidities and the stress intensity factors at the crack tip are determined. Next, for the doubly connected circular cylinder with a rectangular hole the expressions for the singular stresses around the concave corner points are derived and the generalized stress intensity factors are then defined. Since the crack-cutting technique is used in this paper, the solution of the matching rectangular cylinder is also obtained and its numerical results coincide with those in references. Thus the method proposed here is verified. The project supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China  相似文献

Mechanical Behaviors of Saturated Sand under Complicated Loading   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The different physical states of saturated sand, including shear elasticity, positive dilatancy, and negative dilatancy (preliminary negative dilatancy, secondary negative dilatancy and reversal negative dilatancy) are revealed based on the pore water pressure response of saturated sand in undrained dynamic torsional tests of thin cylinder samples and also checked by the drained cyclic triaxial tests under a given mean effective normal stress. According to the effective stress path of different physical states under the undrained cyclic torsional tests the physical state transformation surface, stress history boundary and yield surface are determined, and the state boundary surface is also determined by the range of effective frictional stress state movement. Based on the moving yield surface without rotation, and the expanding stress history boundary surface relevant to the stress path variations under different physical states in 3D stress space, a physical state model is proposed to provide a new app  相似文献

The present investigation is concerned with the effect of rotation on an infinite circular cylinder subjected to certain boundary conditions. An analytical procedure for evaluation of thermal stresses, displacements, and temperature in rotating cylinder subjected to thermal load along the radius is presented. The dynamic thermal stresses in an infinite elastic cylinder of radius a due to a constant temperature applied to a variable portion of the curved surface while the rest of surface is maintained at zero temperature are discussed.Such situation can arise due to melting of insulating material deposited on the surface cylinder.A solution and numerical results are obtained for the stress components, displacement components, and temperature. The results obtained from the present semi-analytical method are in good agreement with those obtained by using the previously developed methods.  相似文献

This paper deals with three-dimensional analysis of stress distribution in a long circular cylinder containing an elliptical crack. The surface of the crack is perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder, and is subjected to a constant pressure. The equations of the classical theory of elasticity are solved in terms of an unknown function which is then shown to be the solution of an integro-differential equation. Numerical solution of the integro-differential equation is obtained. The resultant stress intensity magnification factors for the elliptical crack in the cylinder are presented in graphical forms for various crack aspect ratios, and proximity ratios.  相似文献

Compliance effects on the torsional flow of a viscoelastic fluid   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of transducer compliance on transient stress measurements in torsional flows of a viscoelastic fluid are investigated theoretically. The analysis is based on the torsional flow of an upper-convected Maxwell fluid between a rotating and ‘stationary’ disk, which is allowed to twist and displace axially as a result of the stresses exerted on the disk by the fluid. An approximate analytical solution to the governing equations is obtained using a standard perturbation method. Results of the analysis are used to examine how the fluid velocity is altered by the motion of the stationary disk and to gain insight on how transient stress measurements are affected by transducer compliance. The analysis shows that compliance effects increase with applied shear rate and that the effects of torsional and axial compliance are coupled in measurements of the shear stress and first normal stress difference.  相似文献

Thermoelastic transient response of multilayered annular cylinders of infinite lengths subjected to known temperature at traction-free inner and outer surfaces are considered. A method based on the Laplace transformation and finite difference method has been developed to analyze the thermoelasticity problem. Using the Laplace transform with respect to time, the general solutions of the governing equation are obtained in transform domain. The solution is obtained by using the matrix similarity transformation and inverse Laplace transform. Solutions for the temperature and thermal stress distributions in a transient state were obtained. It was found that the temperature distribution, the displacement and the thermal stresses change slightly as time increases. There is no limit of number of annular layers of the cylinder in the presented computational procedures.  相似文献

The transient thermal stress problem of an inner-surface-coated hollow cylinder with multiple pre-existing surface cracks contained in the coating is considered. The transient temperature, induced thermal stress, and the crack tip stress intensity factor (SIF) are calculated for the cylinder via finite element method (FEM), which is exposed to convective cooling from the inner surface. As an example, the material pair of a chromium coating and an underlying steel substrate 30CrNi2MoVA is particularly evaluated. Numerical results are obtained for the stress intensity factors as a function of normalized quantities such as time, crack length, convection severity, material constants and crack spacing.  相似文献

The torsional problem of a finite elastic cylinder with a circumferential edge crack is studied in this paper. An efficient solution to the problem is achieved by using a new form of regularization applied to dual Dini series equations. Unlike the Srivastav approach, this regularization transforms dual equations into a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind given on the crack surface. Hence, exact asymptotic expansions of the Fredholm equation solution, the stress intensity factor and the torque are derived for the case of a shallow crack. The asymptotic expansions are certain power-logarithmic series of the normalized crack depth. Coefficients of these series are found from recurrent relations. Calculations for a shallow crack manifest that the stress intensity factor exhibits the rather weak dependence upon the cylinder length when the torque is fixed and the triple length is larger than the diameter.  相似文献

A Green's function approach is used to formulate and obtain the stress field, under torsional loads in a radially finite solid cylinder with radially variable elastic modulus. With this approach a certain dual static-geometric analogy in the solution is readily proved and applied to generate the solution with stress boundary conditions from that with displacement boundary conditions and vice-versa.The problem is solved using both boundary conditions and for an exponentially varying shear modulus. In particular, under displacement boundary conditions, the stress field in the solid with a generalised Reissner-Sagoci boundary condition is easily deduced. With stress boundary conditions, the criteria for crack propagation in such elastic models are also obtained using the Griffith-Irwin condition of rupture.  相似文献

The present work deals with the possibility of propagation of torsional surface wave in fluid saturated poroelastic layer lying over nonhomogeneous elastic half space. Both the media are assumed to be under compressive initial stress. The half space has two types of inhomogeneity, viz; hyperbolic and quadratic. The dispersion equation for torsional wave in porous layer has been derived and observed that the presence of fluid in pores increases the velocity of the torsional surface wave but the phase velocity diminishes due to the presence of compressive initial stress in the porous layer. It is also observed that the velocity of the torsional surface wave increases due to the increase of initial stress in inhomogeneous half space. The inhomogeneity factor due to quadratic and hyperbolic variations in rigidity, density and initial stress of the medium decreases the phase velocity as it increases.  相似文献

Summary  The present paper discusses a plane strain problem of transient thermoelasticity in a circular cylinder which is in partial contact with two heated rigid stamps, in the case where the coefficient of relative heat transfer on the contact surface of the cylinder is different from that on the traction-free surface. A finite difference method with respect to the time variable and Airy's thermal stress function is employed to analyze the temperature and thermoelastic fields. The problem is formulated in terms of two dual-series equations derived not only from the thermal boundary conditions but also from the mechanical boundary conditions. Since the radial, hoop and axial stresses have singularities at the end of the contact surface of the cylinder, the stress singularity coefficients are defined and then the relationship among these three coefficients is also obtained. Finally, numerical results are illustrated graphically. Received 3 March 2000; accepted for publication 12 July 2000  相似文献

Nonlinear torsional waves propagating along an infinite transversely isotropic cylinder are considered. The hyperelasticity of the cylinder is described by Guz’s generalization of the Murnaghan potential to quasi-isotropic materials. The evolution of the initial waveprofile in cylinders made of composite materials reinforced with micro-and nanoscale fibers is modeled numerically. It is shown that the transverse isotropy of this class of composites has a weak effect on the wave phenomena accompanying the propagation of a torsional wave.
