We prove in full generality the mirror duality conjecture for string-theoretic Hodge numbers of Calabi–Yau complete intersections in Gorenstein toric Fano varieties. The proof is based on properties of intersection cohomology. Oblatum 9-X-1995 & 11-III-1996  相似文献

Building on a recent paper [8], here we argue that the combinatorics of matroids are intimately related to the geometry and topology of toric hyperkähler varieties. We show that just like toric varieties occupy a central role in Stanley’s proof for the necessity of McMullen’s conjecture (or g-inequalities) about the classification of face vectors of simplicial polytopes, the topology of toric hyperkähler varieties leads to new restrictions on face vectors of matroid complexes. Namely in this paper we will give two proofs that the injectivity part of the Hard Lefschetz theorem survives for toric hyperkähler varieties. We explain how this implies the g-inequalities for rationally representable matroids. We show how the geometrical intuition in the first proof, coupled with results of Chari [3], leads to a proof of the g-inequalities for general matroid complexes, which is a recent result of Swartz [20]. The geometrical idea in the second proof will show that a pure O-sequence should satisfy the g-inequalities, thus showing that our result is in fact a consequence of a long-standing conjecture of Stanley.  相似文献

We construct a 3-dimensional complete intersection toric variety on which the subadditivity formula doesn't hold, answering negatively a question by Takagi and Watanabe. A combinatorial proof of the subadditivity formula on 2-dimensional normal toric varieties is also provided.  相似文献

Describing minimal generating sets of toric ideals is a well-studied and difficult problem. Neil White conjectured in 1980 that the toric ideal associated to a matroid is generated by quadrics corresponding to single element symmetric exchanges. We give a combinatorial proof of White’s conjecture for graphic matroids.  相似文献

Multivariate hypergeometric functions associated with toric varieties were introduced by Gel'fand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky. Singularities of such functions are discriminants, that is, divisors projectively dual to torus orbit closures. We show that most of these potential denominators never appear in rational hypergeometric functions. We conjecture that the denominator of any rational hypergeometric function is a product of resultants, that is, a product of special discriminants arising from Cayley configurations. This conjecture is proved for toric hypersurfaces and for toric varieties of dimension at most three. Toric residues are applied to show that every toric resultant appears in the denominator of some rational hypergeometric function.  相似文献

We prove tight lower bounds for the coefficients of the toric h-vector of an arbitrary centrally symmetric polytope generalizing previous results due to R. Stanley and the author using toric varieties. Our proof here is based on the theory of combinatorial intersection cohomology for normal fans of polytopes developed by G. Barthel, J.-P. Brasselet, K. Fieseler and L. Kaup, and independently by P. Bressler and V. Lunts. This theory is also valid for nonrational polytopes when there is no standard correspondence with toric varieties. In this way we can establish our bounds for centrally symmetric polytopes even without requiring them to be rational. Received: 24 March 2004  相似文献

We prove a decomposition theorem for the cd-index of a Gorenstein* poset analogous to the decomposition theorem for the intersection cohomology of a toric variety. From this we settle a conjecture of Stanley that the cd-index of Gorenstein* lattices is minimized on Boolean algebras.  相似文献

Inspired by a paper of Salberger we give a new proof of Manin’s conjecture for toric varieties over imaginary quadratic number fields by means of universal torsor parameterizations and elementary lattice point counting.  相似文献

We propose a perturbation method for determining the (largest) group of invariance of a toric ideal defined in [S. Aoki, A. Takemura, The largest group of invariance for Markov bases and toric ideals, J. Symbolic Comput. 43 (5) (2008) 342–358]. In the perturbation method, we investigate how a generic element in the row space of the configuration defining a toric ideal is mapped by a permutation of the indeterminates. Compared to the proof by Aoki and Takemura which was based on stabilizers of a subset of indeterminates, the perturbation method gives a much simpler proof of the group of invariance. In particular, we determine the group of invariance for a general hierarchical model of contingency tables in statistics, under the assumption that the numbers of the levels of the factors are generic. We prove that it is a wreath product indexed by a poset related to the intersection poset of the maximal interaction effects of the model.  相似文献

A natural higher K-theoretic analogue of the triviality of vector bundles on affine toric varieties is the conjecture on nilpotence of the multiplicative action of the natural numbers on the K-theory of these varieties. This includes both Quillen's fundamental result on K-homotopy invariance of regular rings and the stable version of the triviality of vector bundles on affine toric varieties. Moreover, it yields a similar behavior of not necessarily affine toric varieties and, further, of their equivariant closed subsets. The conjecture is equivalent to the claim that the relevant admissible morphisms of the category of vector bundles on an affine toric variety can be supported by monomials not in a nondegenerate corner subcone of the underlying polyhedral cone. We prove that one can in fact eliminate all lattice points in such a subcone, except maybe one point. The elimination of the last point is also possible in 0 characteristic if the action of the big Witt vectors satisfies a very natural condition. A partial result of this in the arithmetic case provides first nonsimplicial examples, actually an explicit infinite series of combinatorially different affine toric varieties, simultaneously verifying the conjecture for all higher groups.Supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, INTAS grant 99-00817 and TMR grant ERB FMRX CT-97-0107  相似文献

The main result of this paper is the proof of the Nash conjecture for stable toric varieties. We also introduce the Nash problem for pairs and prove it in the case of pairs (X, Y) of a toric variety X and a proper closed T ‐invariant subset Y containing Sing(X) (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In a recent paper, the first author proved the log-concavity of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of a matroid realizable over a field of characteristic 0, answering a long-standing conjecture of Read in graph theory. We extend the proof to all realizable matroids, making progress towards a more general conjecture of Rota?CHeron?CWelsh. Our proof follows from an identification of the coefficients of the reduced characteristic polynomial as answers to particular intersection problems on a toric variety. The log-concavity then follows from an inequality of Hodge type.  相似文献

We give a new proof of Faber?s intersection number conjecture concerning the top intersections in the tautological ring of the moduli space of curves Mg. The proof is based on a very straightforward geometric and combinatorial computation with double ramification cycles.  相似文献

In this article Ehrhart quasi-polynomials of simplices are employed to determine isospectral lens spaces in terms of a finite set of numbers. Using the natural lattice associated with a lens space the associated toric variety of a lens space is introduced. It is proved that if two lens spaces are isospectral then the dimension of global sections of powers of a natural line bundle on these two toric varieties are equal and they have the same general intersection number. Also, harmonic polynomial representation of the group SO(n) is used to provide a more elementary proof for a theorem of Lauret, Miatello and Rossetti on isospectrality of lens spaces.  相似文献

Consider a 1-parameter compactly supported family of Legendrian submanifolds of the 1-jet bundle of a compact manifold with its natural contact structure and a path of intersection points of the Legendrian family with the 1-jet of a constant function. Since the contact distribution is a symplectic vector bundle, it is possible to assign a Maslov-type index to the intersection path. We show that the non-vanishing of the Maslov intersection index implies that there exists at least one point of bifurcation from the given path of intersection points. This result can be viewed as a kind of analogue in bifurcation theory of the Arnold-Sandon conjecture on intersections of Legendrian submanifols. The proof is based on the technique of generating functions that relates the properties of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms to the Morse theory of the associated functions.  相似文献

We study the graphs G for which their toric ideals I G are complete intersections. In particular, we prove that for a connected graph G such that I G is a complete intersection all of its blocks are bipartite except for at most two. We prove that toric ideals of graphs which are complete intersections are circuit ideals. In this case, the generators of the toric ideal correspond to even cycles of G except of at most one generator, which corresponds to two edge disjoint odd cycles joint at a vertex or with a path. We prove that the blocks of these graphs satisfy the odd cycle condition. Finally, we characterize all complete intersection toric ideals of graphs which are normal.  相似文献

Convex polytopes have interested mathematicians since very ancient times. At present, they occupy a central place in convex geometry, combinatorics, and toric topology and demonstrate the harmony and beauty of mathematics. This paper considers the problem of describing the f-vectors of simple flag polytopes, that is, simple polytopes in which any set of pairwise intersecting facets has nonempty intersection. We show that for each nestohedron corresponding to a connected building set, the h-polynomial is a descent-generating function for some class of permutations; we also prove Gal’s conjecture on the nonnegativity of γ-vectors of flag polytopes for nestohedra constructed over complete bipartite graphs.  相似文献

In a previous paper, we presented a matrix model reproducing the topological string partition function on an arbitrary given toric Calabi–Yau manifold. Here, we compute the spectral curve of our matrix model and thus provide a matrix model derivation of the large volume limit of the BKMP “remodeling the B-model” conjecture, the claim that Gromov–Witten invariants of any toric Calabi–Yau threefold coincide with the spectral invariants of its mirror curve.  相似文献

We construct a matrix model that reproduces the topological string partition function on arbitrary toric Calabi–Yau threefolds. This demonstrates, in accord with the BKMP “remodeling the B-model” conjecture, that Gromov–Witten invariants of any toric Calabi–Yau threefold can be computed in terms of the spectral invariants of a spectral curve. Moreover, it proves that the generating function of Gromov–Witten invariants is a tau function for an integrable hierarchy. In a follow-up paper, we will explicitly construct the spectral curve of our matrix model and argue that it equals the mirror curve of the toric Calabi–Yau manifold.  相似文献
