This paper investigates the effects of thermal radiation on the magnetohy-drodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer over a nonlinear shrinking porous sheet. The surface velocity of the shrinking sheet and the transverse magnetic field are assumed to vary as a power function of the distance from the origin. The temperature dependent viscosity and the thermal conductivity are also assumed to vary as an inverse function and a linear function of the temperature, respectively. A generalized similarity transformarion is used to reduce the governing partial differential equations to their nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations, and is solved numerically by using a finite difference scheme. The numerical results concern with the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient and the rate of the heat transfer at the porous sheet for different values of several physical parameters of interest.  相似文献

The influence of partial slip, thermal radiation, chemical reaction and temperature‐dependent fluid properties on heat and mass transfer in hydro‐magnetic micropolar fluid flow over an inclined permeable plate with constant heat flux and non‐uniform heat source/sink is studied. The transverse magnetic field is assumed as a function of the distance from the origin. Also it is assumed that the fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity vary as an inverse function and linear function of temperature, respectively. With the use of the similarity transformation, the governing system of non‐linear partial differential equations are transformed into non‐linear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically using symbolic software MATHEMATICA 7.0 (Wolfram Research, Champaign, IL). The numerical values obtained for the velocity, microrotation, temperature, species concentration, skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are presented through graphs and tables for several sets of values of the parameters. The steady flow and heat transfer of a couple stress fluid due to an inclined stretching cylinder are analyzed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to be temperature dependent. The governing equations for the flow and heat transfer are transformed into ordinary differential equations. Series solutions of the resulting problem are computed. The effects of various interested parameters, e.g., the couple stress parameter, the angle of inclination, the mixed convection parameter, the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the radiation parameter, and the variable thermal conductivity parameter, are illustrated. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed. It is observed that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases while the velocity and the shear stress decrease when the couple stress parameter and the Reynolds number increase. The temperature increases when the Reynolds number increases.  相似文献

This article presents a numerical solution for the flow of a Newtonian fluid over an impermeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium with the power law surface velocity and variable thickness in the presence of thermal radiation. The flow is caused by non-linear stretching of a sheet. Thermal conductivity of the fluid is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with appropriate boundary conditions for various physical parameters. The remaining system of ODEs is solved numerically using a differential transformation method (DTM). The effects of the porous parameter, the wall thickness parameter, the radiation parameter, the thermal conductivity parameter, and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, the local skin-friction and the Nusselt numbers are presented. Comparison of the obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, with good agreement. The results obtained in this paper confirm the idea that DTM is a powerful mathematical tool and can be applied to a large class of linear and non-linear problems in different fields of science and engineering.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to investigate the flow of the Casson fluid by an inclined stretching cylinder. A heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects. The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the Casson fluid is considered. The relevant equations are first simplified under usual boundary layer assumptions, and then transformed into ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are computed for the series solutions of velocity and temperature. A convergence analysis is shown explicitly. Velocity and temperature fields are discussed for different physical parameters by graphs and numerical values. It is found that the velocity decreases with the increase in the angle of inclination while increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity and radiation effects corresponds to a higher fluid temperature. It is also found that heat transfer is more pronounced in a cylinder when it is compared with a flat plate. The thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in the Eckert number. The radiation and variable thermal conductivity decreases the heat transfer rate at the surface.  相似文献

The thermal analysis of the annular rectangular profile fins with variable thermal properties is investigated by using the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient are assumed to vary with a linear and power-law function of temperature, respectively. The effects of the thermal-geometric fin parameter and the thermal conductivity parameter variations on the temperature distribution and fin efficiency are investigated for different heat transfer modes. Results from the HAM are compared with numerical results of the finite difference method (FDM). It can be seen that the variation of dimensionless parameters has a significant effect on the temperature distribution and fin efficiency.  相似文献

The basic equations for a homogeneous and isotropic thermo-magnetoviscoelastic medium are formulated based on three different theories, i.e., the GreenLindsay(G-L) theory, the coupled(CD) theory, and the Lord-Shulman(L-S) theory. The variable thermal conductivity is considered as a linear function of the temperature. Using suitable non-dimensional variables, these basic equations are solved via the eigenvalue approach. The medium is initially assumed to be stress-free and subject to a thermal shock.The numerical results reveal that the viscosity, the two-temperature parameter, the gravity term, and the magnetic field significantly influence the distribution of the physical quantities of the thermoelastic medium.  相似文献

连续丝束剪切(Continuous Tow Shearing, CTS)铺放技术是一种新的变角度层合板制作技术,这种新技术能显著减少丝束铺放过程中产生的丝束重叠和间隙等缺陷,然而,采用CTS技术铺设时,层合板的厚度将随着纤维角度的变化而变化.本文基于一阶剪切变形理论并应用Chebyshev-Ritz法对这种变厚度的变角度复合材料层合板的热屈曲问题进行了研究.假设纤维方向角沿板的长度方向按照线性变化,获得了均匀温度变化时变厚度层合板的临界热屈曲荷载.通过与现有文献的比较验证了本文方法的正确性,并进一步讨论了纤维铺设技术、纤维方向角的变化以及边界条件的不同对变角度复合材料层合板的临界屈曲温度的影响.研究结果表明,在体积相同的情况下,采用CTS铺设较传统的自动丝束铺放(AFP)可以进一步提升变角度层合板的临界屈曲温度.本文的研究结果可为变角度复合材料的设计提供一定的参考.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of variable viscosities and thermal stratification on the MHD mixed convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid past a porous wedge in the presence of a chemical reaction. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform nonDarcian porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection. The governing boundary layer equations are written into a dimensionless form by similarity transformations. The transformed coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically with finite difference methods. Numerical calculations up to the thirdorder level of truncation are carried out for different values of dimensionless parameters. The results are presented graphically, and show that the flow field and other quantities of physical interest are significantly influenced by these parameters. The results are compared with those available in literature, and show excellent agreement.  相似文献

The article deals with the problems of controllability, observability and stabilizability of an elastic-structural system treated by the finite element method. The results obtained here agree with that obtained in distributed parameter-system model, nevertheless, they are more convenient than those in carrying out the computation with a computer, at the same time the method appears much easier that the conventional one. In section one, the system's controllability and observability are studied and some conditions which are easier to be justified by computer are given. In section two, the problem of stabilizing an elastic object by the use of linear feedback is fully discussed. As the attained results there show that, so far as an elastic-structural system is concerned, it is possible to assign arbitrary frequencies of vibration only by the use of displacement feedback, however, it is impossible to stabilize the system while the system is completely controllable. While the velocity feedback can stabilize the system, but its ability is limited. The case of rigid body motion involved in the system equation has also been discussed. In section three, the control of a straight beam is treated by the finite element method. The whole system of a beam can be decomposed into four irrelevant subsystems of tension-compression, torsion, bending in two directions, their controllability and observability are also analyzed respectively. The controllability and observability of segment-shaped beam are discussed in the end.  相似文献

This article addresses the three-dimensional stretched flow of the Jeffrey fluid with thermal radiation. The thermal conductivity of the fluid varies linearly with respect to temperature. Computations are performed for the velocity and temperature fields. Graphs for the velocity and temperature are plotted to examine the behaviors with different parameters. Numerical values of the local Nusselt number are presented and discussed. The present results are compared with the existing limiting solutions, showing good agreement with each other.  相似文献

As robotic manipulators gain more importance in space operations, it is becoming imperative to understand their distinctive dynamics and control characteristics. With the increasing complexity of space robots, efficient algorithms are now required for their simulation. The present study uses an order-N algorithm, based on the Lagrangian approach and velocity transformations, to simulate the planar dynamics of a novel orbiting manipulator with arbitrary number of slewing and deployable flexible links. The relatively general formulation accounts for interactions between orbital, librational, slewing, deployment, and vibrational degrees of freedom, and thus is applicable to a large class of manipulator systems of contemporary interest. A parametric analysis of the system dynamics is carried out to investigate the effects of initial disturbances, variation of system parameters and maneuver profiles. The study suggests significant coupling between the rigid body motion and structural vibrations. As a result, the system's flexibility can significantly affect the manipulator's performance.  相似文献
