We prove that if X denotes the interval or the circle then every transformation T:XX of class C r , where r>1 is not necessarily an integer, admits a symbolic extension, i.e., every such transformation is a topological factor of a subshift over a finite alphabet. This is done using the theory of entropy structure. For such transformations we control the entropy structure by providing an upper bound, in terms of Lyapunov exponents, of local entropy in the sense of Newhouse of an ergodic measure ν near an invariant measure μ (the antarctic theorem). This bound allows us to estimate the so-called symbolic extension entropy function on invariant measures (the main theorem), and as a consequence, to estimate the topological symbolic extension entropy; i.e., a number such that there exists a symbolic extension with topological entropy arbitrarily close to that number. This last estimate coincides, in dimension 1, with a conjecture stated by Downarowicz and Newhouse [13, Conjecture 1.2]. The passage from the antarctic theorem to the main theorem is applicable to any topological dynamical system, not only to smooth interval or circle maps.  相似文献

LetX=X 0,X 1,…be a stationary sequence of random variables defining a sequence space Σ with shift mapσ and let (T t, Ω) be an ergodic flow. Then the endomorphismT X(x, ω)=(σ(x),T x 0(ω)) is known as a random walk on a random scenery. In [4], Heicklen, Hoffman and Rudolph proved that within the class of random walks on random sceneries whereX is an i.i.d. sequence of Bernoulli-(1/2, 1/2) random variables, the entropy ofT t is an isomorphism invariant. This paper extends this result to a more general class of random walks, which proves the existence of an uncountable family of smooth maps on a single manifold, no two of which are measurably isomorphic. Ergodic homeomorphisms T and S of Polish probability spaces X and Y are evenly Kakutani equivalent if there is an orbit equivalence ϕ: X 0Y 0 between full measure subsets of X and Y such that, for some AX 0 of positive measure, ϕ restricts to a measurable isomorphism of the induced systems T A and S ϕ(A). The study of even Kakutani equivalence dates back to the seventies, and it is well known that any two irrational rotations of the circle are evenly Kakutani equivalent. But even Kakutani equivalence is a purely measurable relation, while systems such as irrational rotations are both measurable and topological.  相似文献

Let X be a Banach space and let T: XX be a power bounded linear operator. Put X 0 = {xXT n x → 0}. Assume given a compact set KX such that lim inf n→∞ ρ{T n x, K} ≤ η < 1 for every xX, ∥x∥ ≤ 1. If $\eta < \tfrac{1} {2} $\eta < \tfrac{1} {2} , then codim X 0 < ∞. This is true in X reflexive for $\eta \in [\tfrac{1} {2},1) $\eta \in [\tfrac{1} {2},1) , but fails in the general case.  相似文献

This paper considers thefinitary reconstruction of an ergodic measure preserving transformationT of a complete separable metric spaceX from a single trajectoryx, Tx, …, or more generally, from a suitable reconstruction sequence x=x 1,x 2, … withx iX. Ann-sample reconstruction is a functionT n: X n+1X; the map (·;x 1, …,x n)is treated as an estimate ofT(·) based on then initial elements of x. Given a reference probability measureμ 0 and constantM>1, functionsT 1,T 2, … are defined, and it is shown that for everyμ with 1/Mdμ/dμ 0M, everyμ-preserving transformationT, and every reconstruction sequence x forT, the estimates (·;x 1, …,x nconverge toT in the weak topology. For the family of interval exchange transformations of [0, 1] a simple family of estimates is described and shown to be consistent both pointwise and in the strong topology. However, it is also shown that no finitary estimation scheme is consistent in the strong topology for the family of all ergodic Lebesgue measure preserving transformations of the unit interval, even if x is assumed to be a generic trajectory ofT. A Banach space X has the alternative Dunford–Pettis property if for every weakly convergent sequences (xn) → x in X and (xn*) → 0 in X* with ||xn|| = ||x||= 1 we have (xn*(xn)) → 0. We get a characterization of certain operator spaces having the alternative Dunford–Pettis property. As a consequence of this result, if H is a Hilbert space we show that a closed subspace M of the compact operators on H has the alternative Dunford–Pettis property if, and only if, for any hH, the evaluation operators from M to H given by SSh, SSth are DP1 operators, that is, they apply weakly convergent sequences in the unit sphere whose limits are also in the unit sphere into norm convergent sequences. We also prove a characterization of certain closed subalgebras of K(H) having the alternative Dunford-Pettis property by assuming that the multiplication operators are DP1.  相似文献

A sequence (f n ) n of functions f n : X → ℝ almost decreases (increases) to a function f: X → ℝ if it pointwise converges to f and for each point xX there is a positive integer n(x) such that f n+1(x) ≤ f n (x) (f n+1(x) ≥ f n (x)) for nn(x). In this article I investigate this convergence in some families of continuous functions.  相似文献

LetT be a nonexpansive mapping on a normed linear spaceX. We show that there exists a linear functional.f, ‖f‖=1, such that, for allxX, limn→x f(T n x/n)=limn→xT n x/n ‖=α, where α≡inf y∈c Ty-y‖. This means, ifX is reflexive, that there is a faceF of the ball of radius α to whichT n x/n converges weakly for allx (infz∈f g(T n x/n-z)→0, for every linear functionalg); ifX is strictly conves as well as reflexive, the convergence is to a point; and ifX satisfies the stronger condition that its dual has Fréchet differentiable norm then the convergence is strong. Furthermore, we show that each of the foregoing conditions on X is satisfied if and only if the associated convergence property holds for all nonexpansiveT. We characterize locally convex topological algebrasA satisfying: a sequence (x n) inA converges to 0 if, and only if, (x n 2) converges to 0. We also show that a real Banach algebra such thatx n 2+y n 2→0 if, and only if,x n → 0 andy n → 0, for every sequences (x n) and (y n) inA, is isomorphic to, whereX is a compact space.   相似文献

A Banach space X will be called extensible if every operator EX from a subspace EX can be extended to an operator XX. Denote by dens X. The smallest cardinal of a subset of X whose linear span is dense in X, the space X will be called automorphic when for every subspace EX every into isomorphism T: EX for which dens X/E = dens X/TE can be extended to an automorphism XX. Lindenstrauss and Rosenthal proved that c 0 is automorphic and conjectured that c 0 and ℓ2 are the only separable automorphic spaces. Moreover, they ask about the extensible or automorphic character of c 0(Γ), for Γ uncountable. That c 0(Γ) is extensible was proved by Johnson and Zippin, and we prove here that it is automorphic and that, moreover, every automorphic space is extensible while the converse fails. We then study the local structure of extensible spaces, showing in particular that an infinite dimensional extensible space cannot contain uniformly complemented copies of ℓ n p , 1 ≤ p < ∞, p ≠ 2. We derive that infinite dimensional spaces such as L p (μ), p ≠ 2, C(K) spaces not isomorphic to c 0 for K metric compact, subspaces of c 0 which are not isomorphic to c 0, the Gurarij space, Tsirelson spaces or the Argyros-Deliyanni HI space cannot be automorphic. A topological spaceX is called weakly first countable, if for every pointx there is a countable family {C n x |nω} such thatxC n +1x C n x and such thatUX is open iff for eachxU someC n x is contained inU. This weakening of first countability is due to A. V. Arhangelskii from 1966, who asked whether compact weakly first countable spaces are first countable. In 1976, N. N. Jakovlev gave a negative answer under the assumption of continuum hypothesis. His result was strengthened by V. I. Malykhin in 1982, again under CH. In the present paper we construct various Jakovlev type spaces under the weaker assumption b=c, and also by forcing. Given separable Banach spaces X, Y, Z and a bounded linear operator T:XY, then T is said to preserve a copy of Z provided that there exists a closed linear subspace E of X isomorphic to Z and such that the restriction of T to E is an into isomorphism. It is proved that every operator on C([0,1]) which preserves a copy of an asymptotic ℓ1 space also preserves a copy of C([0,1]).  相似文献

Ergodic theory: for every dynamical system (X,A,T, μ), totally ergodic and of finite entropy, there exist a sequenceS of integers, of upper density zero, and a partitionQ ofX, such that V i∈S T −i Q is the whole σ-algebraA. Furthermore, there is a “universal” sequenceS 0 for which this property is true if we restrict ourselves to the class of strongly mixing systems.   相似文献

For a Tychonoff space X,we use ↓USC F(X) and ↓C F(X) to denote the families of the hypographs of all semi-continuous maps and of all continuous maps from X to I = [0,1] with the subspace topologies of the hyperspace Cld F(X × I) consisting of all non-empty closed sets in X × I endowed with the Fell topology. In this paper,we shall show that there exists a homeomorphism h:↓USC F(X) → Q = [1,1] ω such that h(↓CF(X))=c0 = {(xn)∈Q| lim n→∞ x n = 0} if and only if X is a locally compact separable metrizable space and the set of isolated points is not dense in X.  相似文献

Let C be an Abelian group. An Abelian group A from a class X of Abelian groups is said to be C H-definable in X if, for any group BX, the isomorphism Hom(C,A) ≅ Hom(C,B) implies that AB. If every group from X is C H-definable in X, then X is called an C H-class. In this paper, we study conditions under which a class of completely decomposable torsion-free Abelian groups is an C H-class, where C is a vector group.  相似文献

LetX 1, ...,X n be independent random variables, letF i be the distribution function ofX i (1≦in) and letX 1n ≦... ≦X nn be the corresponding order statistics. We consider the statisticsX kn, wherek=k(n),k/n → 1 andn−k → ∞. LetT be a Markov operator onL 1(X, Σ,m) withT*=P. We connect properties ofP with properties of all productsP ×Q, forQ in a certain class: (a) (Weak mixing theorem)P is ergodic and has no unimodular eigenvalues ≠ 1 ⇔ for everyQ ergodic with finite invariant measureP ×Q is ergodic ⇔ for everyuL 1 with∝ udm=0 and everyfL we haveN −1Σ n ≠1/N |<u, P nf>|→0. (b) For everyuL 1 with∝ udm=0 we have ‖T nu‖1 → 0 ⇔ for every ergodicQ, P ×Q is ergodic. (c)P has a finite invariant measure equivalent tom ⇔ for every conservativeQ, P ×Q is conservative. The recent notion of mild mixing is also treated. Dedicated to the memory of Shlomo Horowitz An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

In this paper we show that every sequence (F n ) of finite dimensional subspaces of a real or complex Banach space with increasing dimensions can be “refined” to yield an F.D.D. (G n ), still having increasing dimensions, so that either every bounded sequence (x n ), withx n G n forn∈ℕ, is weakly null, or every normalized sequence (x n ),withx n G n forn∈ℕ, is equivalent to the unit vector basis of ℓ1. Crucial to the proof are two stabilization results concerning Lipschitz functions on finite dimensional normed spaces. These results also lead to other applications. We show, for example, that every infinite dimensional Banach spaceX contains an F.D.D. (F n ),with lim n→∞dim(F n )=∞, so that all normalized sequences (x n ),withx n F n ,n∈∕, have the same spreading model overX. This spreading model must necessarily be 1-unconditional overX. LetG denote the set of decreasingG: ℝ→ℝ withGэ1 on ]−∞,0], and ƒ 0 G(t)dt⩽1. LetX be a compact metric space, andT: X→X a continuous map. Let μ denone aT-invariant ergodic probability measure onX, and assume (X, T, μ) to be aperiodic. LetU⊂X be such that μ(U)>0. Let τ U (x)=inf{k⩾1:T k xεU}, and defineG U (t)=1/u(U)u({xεU:u(UU(x)>t),tεℝ We prove that for μ-a.e.x∈X, there exists a sequence (U n ) n≥1 of neighbourhoods ofx such that {x}=∩ n U n , and for anyGG, there exists a subsequence (n k ) k≥1 withG U n k U weakly. We also construct a uniquely ergodic Toeplitz flowO(x ,S, μ), the orbit closure of a Toeplitz sequencex , such that the above conclusion still holds, with moreover the requirement that eachU n be a cylinder set. The chaos caused by a strong-mixing preserving transformation is discussed and it is shown that for a topological spaceX satisfying the second axiom of countability and for an outer measurem onX satisfying the conditions: (i) every non-empty open set ofX ism-measurable with positivem-measure; (ii) the restriction ofm on Borel σ-algebra ℬ(X) ofX is a probability measure, and (iii) for everyYX there exists a Borel setB⊂ℬ(X) such thatBY andm(B) =m(Y), iff:XX is a strong-mixing measure-preserving transformation of the probability space (X, ℬ(X),m), and if {m}, is a strictly increasing sequence of positive integers, then there exists a subsetCX withm (C) = 1, finitely chaotic with respect to the sequence {m i}, i.e. for any finite subsetA ofC and for any mapF:AX there is a subsequencer i such that limi→∞ f r i(a) =F(a) for anyaA.
