In this paper, we propose a new three-level implicit nine point compact finite difference formulation of O(k2 + h4) based on non-polynomial tension spline approximation in r-direction and finite difference approximation in t-direction for the numerical solution of one dimensional wave equation in polar co-ordinates. We describe the mathematical formulation procedure in details and also discuss the stability of the method. Numerical results are provided to justify the usefulness of the proposed method.  相似文献

We report a new 9 point compact discretization of order two in y- and order four in x-directions, based on cubic spline approximation, for the solution of two dimensional quasi-linear elliptic partial differential equations. We describe the complete derivation procedure of the method in details and also discuss how our discretization is able to handle Poisson’s equation in polar coordinates. The convergence analysis of the proposed cubic spline approximation for the nonlinear elliptic equation is discussed in details and we have shown under appropriate conditions the proposed method converges. Some physical examples and their numerical results are provided to justify the advantages of the proposed method.  相似文献

The cubic B‐spline collocation scheme is implemented to find numerical solution of the generalized Burger's–Huxley equation. The scheme is based on the finite‐difference formulation for time integration and cubic B‐spline functions for space integration. Convergence of the scheme is discussed through standard convergence analysis. The proposed scheme is of second‐order convergent. The accuracy of the proposed method is demonstrated by four test problems. The numerical results are found to be in good agreement with the exact solutions. Results are compared with other results given in literature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

In this study, we developed the methods based on nonpolynomial cubic spline for numerical solution of second‐order nonhomogeneous hyperbolic partial differential equation. Using nonpolynomial cubic spline in space and finite difference in time directions, we obtained the implicit three level methods of O(k2 + h2) and O(k2 + h4). The proposed methods are applicable to the problems having singularity at x = 0, too. Stability analysis of the presented methods have been carried out. The presented methods are applied to the nonhomogeneous examples of different types. Numerical comparison with Mohanty's method (Mohanty, Appl Math Comput, 165 (2005), 229–236) shows the superiority of our presented schemes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper deals with the study on system of reaction diffusion differential equations for Robin or mixed type boundary value problems (MBVPs). A cubic spline approximation has been used to obtain the difference scheme for the system of MBVPs, on a piecewise uniform Shishkin mesh defined in the whole domain. It has been shown that our proposed scheme, i.e., central difference approximation for outer region with cubic spline approximation for inner region of boundary layers, leads to almost second order parameter uniform convergence whereas the standard method i.e., the forward-backward approximation for mixed boundary conditions with central difference approximation inside the domain leads to almost first order convergence on Shishkin mesh. Numerical results are provided to show the efficiency and accuracy of these methods.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a high‐order accurate method for solving the two dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. We apply a compact finite difference approximation of fourth order for discretizing spatial derivatives of linear hyperbolic equation and collocation method for the time component. The resulted method is unconditionally stable and solves the two‐dimensional linear hyperbolic equation with high accuracy. In this technique, the solution is approximated by a polynomial at each grid point that its coefficients are determined by solving a linear system of equations. Numerical results show that the compact finite difference approximation of fourth order and collocation method give a very efficient approach for solving the two dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we introduce a high‐order accurate method for solving one‐space dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. We apply a compact finite difference approximation of fourth order for discretizing spatial derivative of linear hyperbolic equation and collocation method for the time component. The main property of this method additional to its high‐order accuracy due to the fourth order discretization of spatial derivative, is its unconditionally stability. In this technique the solution is approximated by a polynomial at each grid point that its coefficients are determined by solving a linear system of equations. Numerical results show that the compact finite difference approximation of fourth order and collocation method produce a very efficient method for solving the one‐space‐dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. In this paper, by using a new non-polynomial parameters cubic spline in space direction and compact finite difference in time direction, we get a class of new high accuracy scheme of O(τ4 + h2) and O(τ4 + h4) for solving telegraph equation if we suitably choose the cubic spline parameters. Meanwhile, stability condition of the difference scheme has been carried out. Finally, numerical examples are used to illustrate the efficiency of the new difference scheme.  相似文献

In this paper, to estimate a multiple root p of an equation f(x) = 0, we transform the function f(x) to a hyper tangent function combined with a simple difference formula whose value changes from −1 to 1 as x passes through the root p. Then we apply the so-called numerical integration method to the transformed equation, which may result in a specious approximate root. Furthermore, in order to enhance the accuracy of the approximation we propose a Steffensen-type iterative method, which does not require any derivatives of f(x) nor is quite affected by an initial approximation. It is shown that the convergence order of the proposed method becomes cubic by simultaneous approximation to the root and its multiplicity. Results for some numerical examples show the efficiency of the new method.  相似文献

A cubic spline method is described for the numerical solution of a two-point boundary value problem, involving a fourth order linear differential equation. This spline method is shown to be closely related to a known fourth order finite difference scheme.  相似文献

An efficient numerical method based on quintic nonpolynomial spline basis and high order finite difference approximations has been presented. The scheme deals with the space containing hyperbolic and polynomial functions as spline basis. With the help of spline functions we derive consistency conditions and high order discretizations of the differential equation with the significant first order derivative. The error analysis of the new method is discussed briefly. The new method is analyzed for its efficiency using the physical problems. The order and accuracy of the proposed method have been analyzed in terms of maximum errors and root mean square errors.  相似文献

The cable equation is one of the most fundamental equations for modeling neuronal dynamics. These equations can be derived from the Nernst-Planck equation for electro-diffusion in smooth homogeneous cylinders. Fractional cable equations are introduced to model electrotonic properties of spiny neuronal dendrites. In this paper, a Galerkin finite element method(GFEM) is presented for the numerical simulation of the fractional cable equation(FCE) involving two integro-differential operators. The proposed method is based on a semi-discrete finite difference approximation in time and Galerkin finite element method in space. We prove that the numerical solution converges to the exact solution with order O(τ+hl+1) for the lth-order finite element method. Further, a novel Galerkin finite element approximation for improving the order of convergence is also proposed. Finally, some numerical results are given to demonstrate the theoretical analysis. The results show that the numerical solution obtained by the improved Galerkin finite element approximation converges to the exact solution with order O(τ2+hl+1).  相似文献

Implicit difference schemes of O(k4 + k2h2 + h4), where k0, h 0 are grid sizes in time and space coordinates respectively, are developed for the efficient numerical integration of the system of one space second order nonlinear hyperbolic equations with variable coefficients subject to appropriate initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions. The proposed difference method for a scalar equation is applied for the wave equation in cylindrical and spherical symmetry. The numerical examples are given to illustrate the fourth order convergence of the methods.  相似文献

In this paper, a fast second‐order accurate difference scheme is proposed for solving the space–time fractional equation. The temporal Caputo derivative is approximated by ?L2 ‐1σ formula which employs the sum‐of‐exponential approximation to the kernel function appeared in Caputo derivative. The second‐order linear spline approximation is applied to the spatial Riemann–Liouville derivative. At each time step, a fast algorithm, the preconditioned conjugate gradient normal residual method with a circulant preconditioner (PCGNR), is used to solve the resulting system that reduces the storage and computational cost significantly. The unique solvability and unconditional convergence of the difference scheme are shown by the discrete energy method. Numerical examples are given to verify numerical accuracy and efficiency of the difference schemes.  相似文献

This paper details our note [6] and it is an extension of our previous works  and  which dealt with first order (both in time and space) and second order time accurate (second order in time and first order in space) implicit finite volume schemes for second order hyperbolic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on general nonconforming multidimensional spatial meshes introduced recently in [14]. We aim in this work (and some forthcoming studies) to get higher order (both in time and space) finite volume approximations for the exact solution of hyperbolic equations using the class of spatial generic meshes introduced recently in [14] on low order schemes from which the matrices used to compute the discrete solutions are sparse. We focus in the present contribution on the one dimensional wave equation and on one of its implicit finite volume schemes described in [4]. The implicit finite volume scheme approximating the one dimensional wave equation we consider (hereafter referred to as the basic finite volume scheme) yields linear systems to be solved successively. The matrices involved in these linear systems are tridiagonal, symmetric and definite positive. The finite volume approximate solution of the basic finite volume scheme is of order h+kh+k, where h (resp. k  ) is the mesh size of the spatial (resp. time) discretization. We construct a new finite volume approximation of order (h+k)2(h+k)2 in several discrete norms which allow us to get approximations of order two for the exact solution and its first derivatives. This new high-order approximation can be computed using linear systems whose matrices are the same ones used to compute the discrete solution of the basic finite volume scheme while the right hand sides are corrected. The construction of these right hand sides includes the approximation of some high order spatial derivatives of the exact solution. The computation of the approximation of these high order spatial derivatives can be performed using the same matrices stated above with another two tridiagonal matrices. The manner by which this new high-order approximation is constructed can be repeated to compute successively finite volume approximations of arbitrary order using the same matrices stated above. These high-order approximations can be obtained on any one dimensional admissible finite volume mesh in the sense of [13] without any condition. To reach the above results, a theoretical framework is developed and some numerical examples supporting the theory are presented. Some of the tools of this framework are new and interesting and they are stated in the one space dimension but they can be extended to several space dimensions. In particular a new and useful a prior estimate for a suitable discrete problem is developed and proved. The proof of this a prior estimate result is based essentially on the decomposition of the solution of the discrete problem into the solutions of two suitable discrete problems. A new technique is used in order to get a convenient finite volume approximation whose discrete time derivatives of order up to order two are also converging towards the solution of the wave equation and their corresponding time derivatives.  相似文献

A high‐accuracy numerical approach for a nonhomogeneous time‐fractional diffusion equation with Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions is described in this paper. The time‐fractional derivative is described in the sense of Riemann‐Liouville and discretized by the backward Euler scheme. A fourth‐order optimal cubic B‐spline collocation (OCBSC) method is used to discretize the space variable. The stability analysis with respect to time discretization is carried out, and it is shown that the method is unconditionally stable. Convergence analysis of the method is performed. Two numerical examples are considered to demonstrate the performance of the method and validate the theoretical results. It is shown that the proposed method is of order Ox4 + Δt2 ? α) convergence, where α ∈ (0,1) . Moreover, the impact of fractional‐order derivative on the solution profile is investigated. Numerical results obtained by the present method are compared with those obtained by the method based on standard cubic B‐spline collocation method. The CPU time for present numerical method and the method based on cubic B‐spline collocation method are provided.  相似文献

We use the bivariate spline finite elements to numerically solve the steady state Navier–Stokes equations. The bivariate spline finite element space we use in this article is the space of splines of smoothness r and degree 3r over triangulated quadrangulations. The stream function formulation for the steady state Navier–Stokes equations is employed. Galerkin's method is applied to the resulting nonlinear fourth‐order equation, and Newton's iterative method is then used to solve the resulting nonlinear system. We show the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution in H2(Ω) of the nonlinear fourth‐order problem and give an estimate of how fast the numerical solution converges to the weak solution. The Galerkin method with C1 cubic splines is implemented in MATLAB. Our numerical experiments show that the method is effective and efficient. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This paper deals with the method of hyperbolic summation of tensor product orthogonal spline functions onI d. The spaces, defined in terms of the order of the best approximation by the elements of the space spanned by the tensor product functions with indices from a given hyperbolic set, are described both in terms of the coefficients in some basis and as interpolation spaces. Moreover, the hyperbolic modulus of smoothness is studied, and some relations between hyperbolic summation and hyperbolic modulus of smoothness are established.  相似文献

A modified backward difference time discretization is presented for Galerkin approximations for nonlinear hyperbolic equation in two space variables. This procedure uses a local approximation of the coefficients based on patches of finite elements with these procedures, a multidimensional problem can be solved as a series of one‐dimensional problems.
