We examine the contribution of electromagnetic field to the atomic spin, by adopting two different, both gauge invariant definitions of the electromagnetic angular momentum: \vec{J}I ≡ ∫d3 x ε0 \vec{r} X (\vec{E} X \vec{B}) and \vec{J}II ≡ ∫d3 x ( ε0 \vec{E} X \vec{A}^\bot + ε0 Ei \vec{r} X \vec{\nabla }A^{\bot}i ). Notably, at the classical level, \vec{J}II gives an exactly null result while \vec{J}I gives a finite value. This suggests that \vec{J}II leads to a simpler and more reasonable picture of the atomic spin, therefore qualifies as a more appropriate definition of the electromagnetic angular momentum. Our observation gives important hint on the delicate issue of gluon contribution to the nucleon spin. 相似文献

We propose to use channeling radiation (CR) from relativistic electrons as a source of high energy twisted photons in the MeV range. We calculate numerically the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of radiation produced by electrons with the energies MeV for the axial and planar channeling in the thin Si crystal. We obtain that the average OAM of CR in this case is approximately per photon with the photon energies about MeV. 相似文献

We have calculated the effect of a magnetic field on the evolution of angular momentum eigenfunctions of a charged particle. An additional harmonic potential is supplemented to trap the wave packet. We find the probability density of the wave function is oscillating in the radial direction with a time period determined by the strength of the effective harmonic potential. When the magnetic field is along the z direction, if the initial wave function is an eigenfunction of ${\hat{L}}_{z}$, the probability density of the particle remains axis-symmetric. While for the case of an eigenfunction of ${\hat{L}}_{x}$, it is anisotropic in the x−y plane and rotates with a time period inverse proportional to the strength of the external magnetic field. We also extend the results in a phenomenological way to the case with an external magnetic field that varies harmonically in time. 相似文献

Shared aperture metasurface antenna for electromagnetic vortices generation with different topological charges 下载免费PDF全文
Vortex beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) have aroused great interest of both scientific and engineering communities. Encouragingly, generating OAM with different topological charges in a shared aperture is regarded as a potential route to expanding the communication capacity, which yet is an academic challenging task. In this work, a paradigm of designing metasurface-based shared aperture antenna for generating polarization-dependent vortex beams with distinct topological charges is proposed. Anisotropic unit cells that can tailor different resonance phase profiles in two orthogonal orientations are used to assemble a metasurface reflector. As a proof-of-concept, a planar reflector antenna is designed with two Vivaldi sources, which can generate x- and y-polarized vortex beams with topological charges of l=-1 and l=-2, respectively. Both the simulation results and the measurement results are in good agreement, which demonstrates the feasibility of our design. Significantly, this work provides a new route to achieving vortex beams carrying different topological charges in the same frequency band, which may have potential applications in communication systems. 相似文献
