Given a commuting pair A1, A2 of abelian C1 subalgebras of the Calkin algebra, we look for a commuting pair B1,B2 of C1 subalgebras of B(H) which project onto A1 and A2. We do not insist that Bi, be abelian, so Bi, may contain nontrivial compact operators. If X is the joint spectrum σ(A1, A2), it is shown that the existence of a pair B1, B2 depends only on the element τ in Ext(X) determined by A1, A2. The set L(X) of those τ in Ext(X) which “lift” in this sense is shown to be a subgroup of Ext(X) when Ext(X) is Hausdorff, and also when Ai are singly generated. In this latter case, L(X) can be explicitly calculated for large classes of joint spectra. These results are applied to lift certain pairs of commuting elements of the Calkin algebra to pairs of commuting operators.  相似文献

Let B be a unital C1-algebra and A = Γ(E) be the C1-algebra of sections of a bundle over the separable compact space X with fibre B and structure group Inn B. If B is the quotient of an AW1-algebra, then an exact sequence: 0 → Inn A → PInn AηH2(X, G), where PInn A is the group of pointwise inner automorphisms of A and G=H°(Z(B)^, Z) is obtained. The map η is onto whenever A = C(X, B) and B is the quotient of a purely infinite AW1-algebra. An essential part of the analysis is the result that Ad: U(B) → Inn B is a fibre bundle if and only if the space of inner derivations of B is norm closed. These results extend and clarify previous joint work with I. Raeburn (Indiana Univ. Math. J.29 (1980), 799).  相似文献

Assume X is an infinite dimensional F-normed space and let r be a positive number such that the closed ball Br(X) of radius r is properly contained in X. The main aim of this paper is to give examples of regular F-normed ideal spaces in which there is a 1-ball or a (1+ε)-ball contractive retraction of Br(X) onto its boundary with positive lower Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. The examples are based on the abstract results of the paper, obtained under suitable hypotheses on X.  相似文献

We consider the question: when is a dense subset of a space XC-embedded in X? We introduce the notion of o-tightness and prove that if each finite subproduct of a product X = Πα?AXα has a countable o-tightness and Y is a subset of X such that πB(Y) = Πα?BXα for every countable B ? A, then Y is C-embedded in X. This result generalizes some of Noble and Ulmer's results on C-embedding.  相似文献

It is well known that the space Cp([0,1]) has countable tightness but it is not Fréchet-Urysohn. Let X be a Cech-complete topological space. We prove that the space Cp(X) of continuous real-valued functions on X endowed with the pointwise topology is Fréchet-Urysohn if and only if Cp(X) has countable bounded tightness, i.e., for every subset A of Cp(X) and every x in the closure of A in Cp(X) there exists a countable and bounding subset of A whose closure contains x. We study also the problem when the weak topology of a locally convex space has countable bounded tightness. Additional results in this direction are provided.  相似文献

Let X be a Peano continuum, C(X) its space of subcontinua, and C(X, ε) the space of subcontinua of diameter less than ε. A selection on some subspace of C(X) is a continuous choice function; the selection σ is rigid if σ(A) ? B ? A implies σ(A) = σ(B). It is shown that X is a local dendrite (contains at most one simple closed curve) if and only if there exists ε > 0 such that C(X, ε) admits a selection (rigid selection). Further, C(X) admits a local selection at the subcontinuum A if and only if A has a neighborhood (relative to the space C(X)) which contains no cyclic local dendrite; moreover, that local selection may be chosen to be a constant.  相似文献

For a smooth projective variety X of dimension n, on the product of Chow varieties Ca(XCna−1(X) parameterizing pairs (A,B) of an a-cycle A and an (na−1)-cycle B in X, Barry Mazur raised the problem of constructing a Cartier divisor supported on the locus of pairs with AB≠0?. Let X be a space, and let A be a zero-dimensional topological ring. In this paper we will consider a few natural questions that arise when studying the space C p (X, A), the ring of continuous functions from X to A, endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence. It will be shown that the zero-dimensionality of the codomain plays a vital role in this study. An upper and lower bound will be determined for the density of C p (X, A) using the density of A and the weight of X. The character of C p (X, A) will be computed, thus characterizing when C p (X, A) is metrizable. Lastly, we will consider the topological dual space of C p (X, A) and use it to prove a Nagata-like theorem.  相似文献

Let A be the generator of a cosine function on a Banach space X. In many cases, for example if X is a UMD-space, A+B generates a cosine function for each BL(D((ωA)1/2),X). If A is unbounded and , then we show that there exists a rank-1 operator BL(D(γ(ωA)),X) such that A+B does not generate a cosine function. The proof depends on a modification of a Baire argument due to Desch and Schappacher. It also allows us to prove the following. If A+B generates a distribution semigroup for each operator BL(D(A),X) of rank-1, then A generates a holomorphic C0-semigroup. If A+B generates a C0-semigroup for each operator BL(D(γ(ωA)),X) of rank-1 where 0<γ<1, then the semigroup T generated by A is differentiable and ‖T(t)‖=O(tα) as t↓0 for any α>1/γ. This is an approximate converse of a perturbation theorem for this class of semigroups.  相似文献

A linear mapping δ from an algebra A into an A-bimodule M is called derivable at cA if δ(a)b+aδ(b)=δ(c) for all a,bA with ab=c. For a norm-closed unital subalgebra A of operators on a Banach space X, we show that if CA has a right inverse in B(X) and the linear span of the range of rank-one operators in A is dense in X then the only derivable mappings at C from A into B(X) are derivations; in particular the result holds for all completely distributive subspace lattice algebras, J-subspace lattice algebras, and norm-closed unital standard algebras of B(X). As an application, every Jordan derivation from such an algebra into B(X) is a derivation. For a large class of reflexive algebras A on a Banach space X, we show that inner derivations from A into B(X) can be characterized by boundedness and derivability at any fixed CA, provided C has a right inverse in B(X). We also show that if A is a canonical subalgebra of an AF C-algebra B and M is a unital Banach A-bimodule, then every bounded local derivation from A into M is a derivation; moreover, every bounded linear mapping from A into B that is derivable at the unit I is a derivation.  相似文献

We are interested in finding a homeomorphism h of a space X with h−1Φh(A)=B for a given bijection Φ of X and every pair of countable dense subsets A and B of X. For a separable Banach space X, such a homeomorphism h always exists provided the fixed-point set of Φ has the empty interior. Moreover, h can be chosen to be real-analytic. As a consequence, there exists a real analytic flow that sends A onto B after time t=1. Actually, for X=Rn, any bounded real-analytic vector field can be approximated by a real-analytic vector field whose induced flow sends A onto B after time t=1. Topological and Cp smooth counterparts of these results are also obtained.  相似文献

Given a bounded operator A on a Banach space X with Drazin inverse AD and index r, we study the class of group invertible bounded operators B such that I+AD(BA) is invertible and R(B)∩N(Ar)={0}. We show that they can be written with respect to the decomposition X=R(Ar)⊕N(Ar) as a matrix operator, , where B1 and are invertible. Several characterizations of the perturbed operators are established, extending matrix results. We analyze the perturbation of the Drazin inverse and we provide explicit upper bounds of ‖B?AD‖ and ‖BB?ADA‖. We obtain a result on the continuity of the group inverse for operators on Banach spaces.  相似文献

A closed-form finite series representation of the unique solution X of the matrix equation AX ? XB=C is developed. Using this representation, the image, kernel, and rank of X are related to the controllable and unobservable subspaces of the (A, C) and (C, B) pairs respectively. Bounds on the rank of X are obtainedin terms of the dimensions of these subspaces. In the case that C has unitary rank, an exact calculation of rank X is made. Let X be a finite-dimensional compactum. Let R(X) and N(X) be the spaces of retractions and non-deformation retractions of X, respectively, with the compact-open (=sup-metric) topology. Let 2Xh be the space of non-empty compact ANR subsets of X with topology induced by the homotopy metric. Let RXh be the subspace of 2Xh consisting of the ANR's in X that are retracts of X.We show that N(Sm) is simply-connected for m > 1. We show that if X is an ANR and A0?RXh, then limi→∞Ai=A0 in 2Xh if and only if for every retraction r0 of X onto A0 there are, for almost all i, retractions ri of X onto Ai such that limi→∞ri=ro in R(X). We show that if X is an ANR, then the local connectedness of R(X) implies that of RXh. We prove that R(M) is locally connected if M is a closed surface. We give examples to show how some of our results weaken when X is not assumed to be an ANR.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish the formulas of the extermal ranks of the quaternion matrix expression f(X1, X2) = C7 ? A4X1B4 ? A5X2B5 where X1, X2 are variant quaternion matrices subject to quaternion matrix equations A1X1 = C1, A2X1 = C2, A3X1 = C3, X2B1 = C4, X2B2 = C5, X2B3 = C6. As applications, we give a new necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of solutions to some systems of quaternion matrix equations.
