Let 2s points yi=−πy2s<…<y1<π be given. Using these points, we define the points yi for all integer indices i by the equality yi=yi+2s+2π. We shall write fΔ(1)(Y) if f is a 2π-periodic continuous function and f does not decrease on [yiyi−1], if i is odd; and f does not increase on [yiyi−1], if i is even. In this article the following Theorem 1—the comonotone analogue of Jackson's inequality—is proved. 1. If fΔ(1)(Y), then for each nonnegative integer n there is a trigonometric polynomial τn(x) of order n such that τnΔ(1)(Y), and |f(x)−πn(x)|c(s) ω(f; 1/(n+1)), x , where ω(f; t) is the modulus of continuity of f, c(s)=const. Upper and lower bounds for generalized Christoffel functions, called Freud-Christoffel functions, are obtained. These have the form λn,p(W,j,x) = infPWLp(R)/|P(j)(X)| where the infimum is taken over all polynomials P(x) of degree at most n − 1. The upper and lower bounds for λn,p(W,j,x) are obtained for all 0 < p ∞ and J = 0, 1, 2, 3,… for weights W(x) = exp(−Q(x)), where, among other things, Q(x) is bounded in [− A, A], and Q″ is continuous in β(−A, A) for some A > 0. For p = ∞, the lower bounds give a simple proof of local and global Markov-Bernstein inequalities. For p = 2, the results remove some restrictions on Q in Freud's work. The weights considered include W(x) = exp(− ¦x¦α/2), α > 0, and W(x) = exp(− expx¦)), > 0.  相似文献

It is shown that for each convex bodyARnthere exists a naturally defined family AC(Sn−1) such that for everyg A, and every convex functionf: RRthe mappingySn−1 f(g(x)−yx) (x) has a minimizer which belongs toA. As an application, approximation of convex bodies by balls with respect toLpmetrics is discussed.  相似文献

Consider a Hilbert space equipped with a time-structure, i.e., a resolution E of the identity on defined on subsets of some linearly ordered set Λ. For which x and y in is it possible to find a causal (time respecting) compact operator T, so that Tx = y? When T is required to be a Hilbert-Schmidt operator and (Λ, E) is sufficiently regular, this question is answered in terms of the “time-densities” of x and y. The condition is that the integral ∝gLμx({s t})−1 dμy(t) should be finite, where μx and μy are the measures on Λ given by μx(Ω) = ¦|E(Ω)x¦|2 and μy(Ω) = ¦|E(Ω)y¦|2. Further a solution is given for the related problem of minimizing the sum of ¦|Txy¦|2 and the squared Hilbert-Schmidt norm ¦|R¦|22 of T.  相似文献

Let {u0, u1,… un − 1} and {u0, u1,…, un} be Tchebycheff-systems of continuous functions on [a, b] and let f ε C[a, b] be generalized convex with respect to {u0, u1,…, un − 1}. In a series of papers ([1], [2], [3]) D. Amir and Z. Ziegler discuss some properties of elements of best approximation to f from the linear spans of {u0, u1,…, un − 1} and {u0, u1,…, un} in the Lp-norms, 1 p ∞, and show (under different conditions for different values of p) that these properties, when valid for all subintervals of [a, b], can characterize generalized convex functions. Their methods of proof rely on characterizations of elements of best approximation in the Lp-norms, specific for each value of p. This work extends the above results to approximation in a wider class of norms, called “sign-monotone,” [6], which can be defined by the property: ¦ f(x)¦ ¦ g(x)¦,f(x)g(x) 0, a x b, imply f g . For sign-monotone norms in general, there is neither uniqueness of an element of best approximation, nor theorems characterizing it. Nevertheless, it is possible to derive many common properties of best approximants to generalized convex functions in these norms, by means of the necessary condition proved in [6]. For {u0, u1,…, un} an Extended-Complete Tchebycheff-system and f ε C(n)[a, b] it is shown that the validity of any of these properties on all subintervals of [a, b], implies that f is generalized convex. In the special case of f monotone with respect to a positive function u0(x), a converse theorem is proved under less restrictive assumptions.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a problem of the type −Δu = λ(f(u) + μg(u)) in Ω, u¦∂Ω = 0, where Ω Rn is an open-bounded set, f, g are continuous real functions on R, and λ, μ ε R. As an application of a new approach to nonlinear eigenvalues problems, we prove that, under suitable hypotheses, if ¦μ¦ is small enough, then there is some λ > 0 such that the above problem has at least three distinct weak solutions in W01,2(Ω).  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show that for a certain class of functions f which are analytic in the complex plane possibly minus (−∞, −1], the Abel series f(0) + Σn = 1 f(n)(nβ) z(znβ)n − 1/n! is convergent for all β>0. Its sum is an entire function of exponential type and can be evaluated in terms of f. Furthermore, it is shown that the Abel series of f for small β>0 approximates f uniformly in half-planes of the form Re(z) − 1 + δ, δ>0. At the end of the paper some special cases are discussed.  相似文献

We investigate two sequences of polynomial operators, H2n − 2(A1,f; x) and H2n − 3(A2,f; x), of degrees 2n − 2 and 2n − 3, respectively, defined by interpolatory conditions similar to those of the classical Hermite-Féjer interpolators H2n − 1(f, x). If H2n − 2(A1,f; x) and H2n − 3(A2,f; x) are based on the zeros of the jacobi polynomials Pn(α,β)(x), their convergence behaviour is similar to that of H2n − 1(f;, x). If they are based on the zeros of (1 − x2)Tn − 2(x), their convergence behaviour is better, in some sense, than that of H2n − 1(f, x).  相似文献

For fC[−1, 1], let Hmn(fx) denote the (0, 1, …,anbsp;m) Hermite–Fejér (HF) interpolation polynomial of f based on the Chebyshev nodes. That is, Hmn(fx) is the polynomial of least degree which interpolates f(x) and has its first m derivatives vanish at each of the zeros of the nth Chebyshev polynomial of the first kind. In this paper a precise pointwise estimate for the approximation error |H2mn(fx)−f(x)| is developed, and an equiconvergence result for Lagrange and (0, 1, …, 2m) HF interpolation on the Chebyshev nodes is obtained. This equiconvergence result is then used to show that a rational interpolatory process, obtained by combining the divergent Lagrange and (0, 1, …, 2m) HF interpolation methods on the Chebyshev nodes, is convergent for all fC[−1, 1].  相似文献

We deal with algorithms for solving systems z′(x) = f(x, z(x)), x ε [0, c], z(0) = η where f has r continuous bounded derivatives in [0, c) × s. We consider algorithms whose sole dependence on f is through the values of n linear continuous functionals at f. We show that if these functionals are defined by partial derivatives off then, roughly speaking, the error of an algorithm (for a fixed f) cannot converge to zero faster than nr as n → +∞. This minimal error is achieved by the Taylor algorithm. If arbitrary linear continuous functionals are allowed, then the error cannot converge to zero faster than n−(r+1) as n → +∞. This minimal error is achieved by the Taylor-integral algorithm which uses integrals of f.  相似文献

Exact comparisons are made relating E|Y0|p, E|Yn−1|p, and E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p), valid for all martingales Y0,…,Yn−1, for each p ≥ 1. Specifically, for p > 1, the set of ordered triples {(x, y, z) : X = E|Y0|p, Y = E |Yn−1|p, and Z = E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p) for some martingale Y0,…,Yn−1} is precisely the set {(x, y, z) : 0≤xyz≤Ψn,p(x, y)}, where Ψn,p(x, y) = xψn,p(y/x) if x > 0, and = an−1,py if x = 0; here ψn,p is a specific recursively defined function. The result yields families of sharp inequalities, such as E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p) + ψn,p*(a) E |Y0|paE |Yn−1|p, valid for all martingales Y0,…,Yn−1, where ψn,p* is the concave conjugate function of ψn,p. Both the finite sequence and infinite sequence cases are developed. Proofs utilize moment theory, induction, conjugate function theory, and functional equation analysis.  相似文献

Denote by xn,k(α,β) and xn,k(λ)=xn,k(λ−1/2,λ−1/2) the zeros, in decreasing order, of the Jacobi polynomial P(α,β)n(x) and of the ultraspherical (Gegenbauer) polynomial Cλn(x), respectively. The monotonicity of xn,k(α,β) as functions of α and β, α,β>−1, is investigated. Necessary conditions such that the zeros of P(a,b)n(x) are smaller (greater) than the zeros of P(α,β)n(x) are provided. A. Markov proved that xn,k(a,b)<xn,k(α,β) (xn,k(a,b)>xn,k(α,β)) for every n and each k, 1kn if a>α and b<β (a<α and b>β). We prove the converse statement of Markov's theorem. The question of how large the function fn(λ) could be such that the products fn(λ)xn,k(λ), k=1,…,[n/2] are increasing functions of λ, for λ>−1/2, is also discussed. Elbert and Siafarikas proved that fn(λ)=(λ+(2n2+1)/(4n+2))1/2 obeys this property. We establish the sharpness of their result.  相似文献

In a symmetrizable Kac–Moody algebra g(A), let α=∑i=1nkiαi be an imaginary root satisfying ki>0 and α,αi<0 for i=1,2,…,n. In this paper, it is proved that for any xαgα{0}, satisfying [xα,fn]≠0 and [xα,fi]=0 for i=1,2,…,n−1, there exists a vector y such that the subalgebra generated by xα and y contains g′(A), the derived subalgebra of g(A).  相似文献

On Hilbert''s Integral Inequality   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In this paper, we generalize Hilbert's integral inequality and its equivalent form by introducing three parameterst,a, andb.Iff, g L2[0, ∞), then[formula]where π is the best value. The inequality (1) is well known as Hilbert's integral inequality, and its equivalent form is[formula]where π2is also the best value (cf. [[1], Chap. 9]). Recently, Hu Ke made the following improvement of (1) by introducing a real functionc(x),[formula]wherek(x) = 2/π∫0(c(t2x)/(1 + t2)) dtc(x), 1 − c(x) + c(y) ≥ 0, andf, g ≥ 0 (cf. [[2]]). In this paper, some generalizations of (1) and (2) are given in the following theorems, which are other than those in [ [2]].  相似文献

Let f ε Cn+1[−1, 1] and let H[f](x) be the nth degree weighted least squares polynomial approximation to f with respect to the orthonormal polynomials qk associated with a distribution dα on [−1, 1]. It is shown that if qn+1/qn max(qn+1(1)/qn(1), −qn+1(−1)/qn(−1)), then fH[f] fn + 1 · qn+1/qn + 1(n + 1), where · denotes the supremum norm. Furthermore, it is shown that in the case of Jacobi polynomials with distribution (1 − t)α (1 + t)β dt, α, β > −1, the condition on qn+1/qn is satisfied when either max(α,β) −1/2 or −1 < α = β < −1/2.  相似文献

Necessary and sufficient conditions are given which ensure the completeness of the trigonometric systems with integer indices; {einx; x }n=−∞ or {einx; x }n=1 in Lα(μ,  ), α1. If there exists a support Λ of the measure μ which is a wandering set, that is, Λ+2, k=0, ±1, ±2, … are mutually disjoint for different k's, then the linear span of our trigonometric system {einx; x }n=−∞ is dense in Lα(μ,  ) α1. The converse statement is also true.  相似文献

This is a study of the degree of weak convergence under convexity of a sequence of finite measures μj on k, k 1, to the unit measure δx0. LetQ denote a convex and compact subset of k, let ƒ ε Cm(Q), m 0, satisfy a convexity condition and let μ be a finite measure on Q. Using standard moment methods, upper bounds and best upper bounds are obtained for ¦∝Qƒdμ − ƒ(x0)¦. They sometimes lead to sharp inequalities which are attained for particular μ and ƒ. These estimates are better than the corresponding ones found in the literature.  相似文献

Let f: be a continuous, 2π-periodic function and for each n ε let tn(f; ·) denote the trigonometric polynomial of degree n interpolating f in the points 2kπ/(2n + 1) (k = 0, ±1, …, ±n). It was shown by J. Marcinkiewicz that limn → ∞0¦f(θ) − tn(f θ)¦p dθ = 0 for every p > 0. We consider Lagrange interpolation of non-periodic functions by entire functions of exponential type τ > 0 in the points kπ/τ (k = 0, ± 1, ± 2, …) and obtain a result analogous to that of Marcinkiewicz.  相似文献
