This study presents a new method for the reconstruction of the direction of γ quanta registered by a CsI calorimeter in the E391 experiment. A neural network in the form of a generalized basis function is used as the mathematical tool for reconstruction. The effective mass of the registered π0 mesons and z coordinate of the decay vertex was first reconstructed in E391 using the measured direction of the registered γ quanta. The reconstruction of these quantities increases the sensitivity of the E391 experiment by at least 35%.  相似文献

Two-photon transitions in the hydrogen atom are analytically evaluated within the nonrelativistic limit utilizing the Coulomb Green function method. The two-photon emission probability for the transition process 2s→2γ(E1)+1s serves as a test for the other calculations and was compared with the results of previous analytical and numerical calculations. The two-photon emission probabilities for the processes 2p→ γ(E1)+γ(M1)+1s and 2p→γ(E1)+γ(E2)+1s are also evaluated and compared with previous numerical calculations. Different nonrelativistic “forms" for the decay probabilities in combination with different gauge choices are considered.  相似文献

The total photoabsorption cross section on a free proton was measured at the GRAAL facility in the energy range E γ = 600−1500 MeV. The large-aperture LAGRANγE detector and a liquid hydrogen target were used in the experiment performed with a back-scattered Compton gamma beam. To improve the accuracy, two alternative methods were employed. First, a subtraction method of using empty-target measurements allowed the cross section σ tot to be evaluated directly because of a low level of the electromagnetic background. Second, an algorithm for evaluating σ tot on the basis of summing the dominating partial cross sections was developed. Experimental results obtained for σ tot by the two methods are compared with existing data. The article was translated by the authors. At hadron colliders, the γγ + jet channel provides a larger signal-to-background ratio in comparison with the inclusive γγ channel in hunting for scalars uncharged under the SM gauge group. By using NLO results for the SM Higgs boson production and corresponding background, we estimate LHC prospects in searches for the radion and sgoldstino in the γγ + jet channel. Three-body final-state kinematics allows for refined cuts. We have found that this channel could be comparable with the γγ channel in searches for new physics. The results of in-beam investigations of excited states of 99Ru using the 98Mo(α,3n) reaction are presented. Angular distributions of γ–rays and γ–γ coincidences have been measured. Excited states have been identified up to an energy of E = 5603 keV and spin of Iπ= 31/2. Mean lifetimes τ have been determined using the DSA method for eleven levels. Aligned angular momenta are discussed and the probable (νh 11/2) origin of a backbending at frequency about 0.5 MeV was confirmed. The possible role of (νd 5/2) alignment at frequencies above 0.5 MeV was pointed out. Received: 13 January 1999 / Revised version: 26 March 1999  相似文献

A new experiment devoted to the fission of 252Cf is described. It continued a series of our experiments based on correlation measurements of γ rays emitted by fission fragment pairs. The measurements of γ-γ and γ-γ-γ coincidences were done at Gammasphere with closed 252Cf sources. The open source was used for the first time in the last experiment. Fission fragment detectors were arranged in the center hole of Gammasphere. Correlations between fission fragment masses, total kinetic energy, and γ rays were observed. The form factors for the transitions πγ, ηγ, ηγ and η c γ are analyzed within the modified perturbative approach in which quark transverse degrees of freedom are retained. The results for the form factors are compared to experiment in detail. As compared to previous calculations within the same approach only little modifications of the meson distribution amplitudes are required in general in order to achieve reasonable agreement with experiment. Only for the πγ form factor a strong contribution from the second Gegenbauer term is found. It also commented on the case of two virtual photons and on the transition form factors in the time-like region.  相似文献

We review the cross-sections for low-energy π-γ reactions in the framework of chiral perturbation theory. Charged-pion Compton scattering, π-γ → π-γ , is considered up to one-loop order where the pion's internal structure enters through the difference of the electric and magnetic pion polarizability, απ - βπ . The ongoing COMPASS experiment aims at measuring this important structure constant with high statistics using the Primakoff effect. In the same way, the reaction π-γ → π-π0 serves as a test of the QCD chiral anomaly (via the γ3π -coupling constant F γ3π . Furthermore, we calculate the total cross-sections for neutral and charged pion-pair production, π-γ → π-π0π0 and π-γ → π-π+π- , which are governed by the chiral ππ -interaction. Finally, we investigate the radiative (correction) process π-γ → π-γγ and calculate the corresponding two-photon mass spectrum. This information will be useful for analyzing the π- Primakoff scattering events with photons in the final state.  相似文献

A technique for selecting the parameters required for describing the angular correlation function and finding their energy dependence has been developed. Joint analysis of a Doppler-broadened 4.44 MeV γ lineshape from the 9Be(α, nγ)12C reaction in the range 1.9–4.5 MeV of E α energies and with n- and γ-angular distributions was performed. The Doppler-broadened lineshapes were modeled and compared using data measured in the JET plasma experiment. Relativistic effects were analyzed.  相似文献

The simulation results of the electric field intensity and the enhancement factor, γ, for an individual CNT imaged as a conducting rod is presented. The field enhancement factor, γ̄, for the CNT paste array is evaluated experimentally by varying the cathode-anode (CA) spacing, d. The simulations indicate that the distribution of electric field intensity and the enhancement factor as a function of cathode-anode spacing, d, could be divided into the two parts: strong (d<100 μm) and weak (d>100 μm) dependences of the enhancement factor γ(d). Furthermore, the field enhancement factor, γ̄, estimated experimentally for the CNT paste FEA indicates that the two-region field emission model (TRFE) is adequate for estimation of the field enhancement factor, γ̄. Moreover, the effective enhancement factor, γ̄, for the CNT paste FEA was found to be ≈50γ and is attributed to the additions of the emission currents from the individual CNTs in an array. In addition, the empiric functions of the geometrical enhancement factor, β̄(d), and γ̄(d) were estimated from the Fowler–Nordheim plot for the CNT paste FEA. One can use the empiric functions β̄(d) and γ̄(d) for the design and fabrication of the devices based on the CNT paste FEA with a variable CA spacing. The Compton scattering on a charged pion and the process γγ→π0π0 are studied using the dispersion relations. Unknown parameters of the S-wave ππ interaction and a sum and a difference of the π0 meson polarizabilities are found from a fit to the experimental data for the γγ→π0π0 process. The found parameters of the ππ interaction are used for the calculation of the cross section of the elastic γπ± scattering. The analysis of the obtained results shows that the experimental data for the elastic γπ± scattering in the energy region up to 1 GeV together with the data for the γγ→π0π0 process could be used both for a determination of the pion polarizability values and for study of the S-wave ππ interaction. The decay of 131Pm has been investigated by means of γ-ray spectroscopy. The 131Pm nuclei were produced by fusion-evaporation reaction of 106Cd(32S,3p4n) at the beam energy of 170 MeV. A helium-jet technique and a tape transport system were used to collect the activities and transfer them to a detecting position for X and γ rays measurement. Two γ rays of 185.0 and 220.0 keV were unambiguously identified to follow the β+ decay of 131Pm by results of X-γ and γ–γ coincidence. A growth-decay feature of the decay curve for 87.8 keV γ-ray of 131Nd confirmed the production of 131Pm nuclei. The half-life of 131Pm was measured to be 6.3 ± 0.8 s. A partial decay scheme of 131Pm is proposed on the basis of X-γ and γ–γ coincidence data in this experiment and the known structure information deduced from in-beam experiments of the daughter nucleus 131Nd. An in-beam study of the transfermium nucleus 252No has been performed using the JUROSPHERE II array of germanium detectors coupled to the gas-filled recoil separator RITU. A new technique of recoil-fission tagging was used to extract tagged γ-ray data. Having significant spontaneous fission and α-decay branches, 252No is an ideal candidate for a comparative study. In a similar manner to α-decay tagging the fission events can be used to obtain γ-ray data. The recoil-fission tagged γ-ray spectrum showed a similar structure to the α-decay tagged γ-ray spectrum. By comparing the α-tagged and fission-tagged spectra and decay curves, it was shown that the spontaneous fission originates from the same initial state as the α decay. This extension of the tagging method allows in-beam spectroscopic data to be obtained from heavy nuclei with significant spontaneous-fission branches.  相似文献

Gamma ray transitions de-exciting states in the N = Z nucleus 70Br have been identified for the first time using the GASP and EUROBALL arrays coupled with ancillary detectors. The level scheme of 70Br has been established by means of particle-gated γ-γ and γ-γ-γ coincidences. The Coulomb energy differences between isobaric analogue states in 70Br and 70Se show a deviation from the expected behaviour which could be related to dripline effects. I introduce the upcoming MEG experiment, which will search for the rare decay μ→eγ down to the branching ratio of 10-13. In order to suppress the background and achieve this unprecedented sensitivity, a great deal of thought went into designing this experiment. The matrix elements of the operators of strange quark fieldssГs where Г is 1 orγμγ 5 between a proton state is calculated. The sigma term is found to be ≈ 41 MeV and theSU(3) singlet axial matrix element is found to be ≈ 0.22, both in agreement with experiment. The sigma term is found using the trace anomaly, while the determination of the axial vector current matrix element is from QCD sum rules. These correspond to (ie.943-1)≈ 0.12 and for the axial current Δs −0.12, respectively. The role of the anomalies in maintaining flavor symmetry in the presence of substantial differences in quark masses is pointed out. This suggests that there is no need to invoke an intrinsic strange quark component in the proton wave function.  相似文献

In this paper we report the efforts carried out to measure the branching ratio of η π0γγ. The experiment was done using the tagged photon facility at ELSA, Bonn. Lifetime measurements of states in nuclei with A=187 and 188 have been performed, using reactions between 155Gd and 36Ar and following the transport of evaporation residues to the focal plane of a gas-filled recoil separator. In a separate experiment using the 159Tb(32S, 4n) reaction the γ-decay of isomeric levels in 187Tl has been studied using delayed γ-γ coincidence measurements. From observation of their subsequent γ decay, the mean lifetimes were measured to be 1000 ± 55 ns and 1600 ± 100 ns. Although it was not possible to characterize the isomers completely, they are proposed as candidates for one-proton, two-neutron excitations. In the course of this study, the decay of an isomer in 188Pb was also observed and its lifetime was measured as 1150 ± 30 ns, and limits of 20–600 ns were placed on the meanlife of an isomer conjectured in 187Pb.
