Calcium and strontium,and zinc (phenazine)−· species

Calcium and strontium react with phenazine in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at ca 20 ° C to yield red solutions containing paramagnetic species based on (phenazine)⁻· (ESR characterization). Zinc reacts in THF in the presence of zinc chloride or bromide, or without metal halide in pyridine, to yield green or red ESR-active solutions also based on (phenazine)⁻·, and then, for the reaction in pyridine, a brown paramagnetic solid of composition Zn(phenazine)(pyridine)₂.     

Über die Bestimmung von Calcium,Magnesium, Zink und Eisen in tierischem Gewebe

Zusammenfassung Es wird über ein Verfahren berichtet, den Calcium-, Magnesium-, Zinkund Eisengehalt tierischen Gewebes (1 bis 5 g) in einer einzigen Veraschungslösung zu bestimmen. Die salzsaure Lösung der Trockenasche wird durch eine Kationenaustauscher-Säule gegeben und hierdurch Phosphat und 90 bis 95% des Eisens von Calcium, Magnesium und Zink getrennt. Die drei letzteren Elemente werden von der Säule unter Austausch zurückgehalten und nach Elution mit 5-n Salzsäure durch zwei komplexometrische Titrationen bestimmt. In dem mit dem Eluat vereinigten Durchlauf wird Eisen mittels der o-Phenanthrolin-Reaktion erfaßt. Auf die Veraschungsbedingungen und die Eisenbestimmung mit Phenanthrolin wird näher eingegangen.

Summary A report is given of a method of determining the calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron content of an animal tissue (1 to 5 g) in a single incineration solution. The hydrochloric acid solution of the dry ash is passed through a cation exchange column. In this manner, phosphate and 90 to 95% of the iron is separated from calcium, magnesium, and zinc. The three latter elements are retained by the column by exchange. After elution with 5N hydrochloric acid they are determined by two complexometric titrations. Iron is determined in the eluate combined with the rinsings; the o-phenanthroline reaction is employed. Details are given of the incineration conditions and the determination of the iron by means of phenanthroline.

Résumé On décrit une méthode qui permet de déterminer sur une solution unique provenant de la calcination de tissus animaux (1 à 5 g) les teneurs en calcium, magnésium, zinc et fer. La solution chlorhydrique des cendres sèches est traitée sur une colonne d'un échangeur de cathions ce qui permet de séparer les phosphates et le fer (ce dernier dans une proportion de 90 à 95%), du calcium, du magnésium et du zinc.Les trois derniers éléments sont retenus par échange sur la colonne et, après élution par l'acide chlorhydrique 5 N, ils sont dosés au moyen de deux titrages complexométriques. Dans le liquide qui s'est écoulé de la colonne, auquel on réunit l'éluat, on dose le fer par la réaction à l'orthophénanthroline. Les conditions de la calcination et le dosage du fer par la phénantroline sont l'objet de précisions détaillées.

d–d Dative Bonding Between Iron and the Alkaline-Earth Metals Calcium,Strontium, and Barium

Double deprotonation of the diamine 1,1′-(tBuCH₂NH)-ferrocene ( 1 -H₂) by alkaline-earth (Ae) or Eu^II metal reagents gave the complexes 1 -Ae (Ae=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) and 1 -Eu. 1 -Mg crystallized as a monomer while the heavier complexes crystallized as dimers. The Fe⋅⋅⋅Mg distance in 1 -Mg is too long for a bonding interaction, but short Fe⋅⋅⋅Ae distances in 1 -Ca, 1 -Sr, and 1 -Ba clearly support intramolecular Fe⋅⋅⋅Ae bonding. Further evidence for interactions is provided by a tilting of the Cp rings and the related ¹H NMR chemical-shift difference between the Cp α and β protons. While electrochemical studies are complicated by complex decomposition, UV/Vis spectral features of the complexes support Fe→Ae dative bonding. A comprehensive bonding analysis of all 1 -Ae complexes shows that the heavier species 1 -Ca, 1 -Sr, and 1 -Ba possess genuine Fe→Ae bonds which involve vacant d-orbitals of the alkaline-earth atoms and partially filled d-orbitals on Fe. In 1 -Mg, a weak Fe→Mg donation into vacant p-orbitals of the Mg atom is observed.

Complete Oxidation of Methane Alumina Modified with Calcium, over Palladium Supported on Lanthanum, and Cerium Ions

The activity and thermal stability of Pd/Al2O3 and Pd/（Al2O3＋MOx） （M=Ca, La, Ce） palladium catalysts in the reaction of complete oxidation of methane are presented in this study. The catalyst supports were prepared by sol-gel method and they were dried either conventionally or with supercritical carbon dioxide. Then they were impregnated with palladium nitrate solution. The catalysts with unmodified alumina had a high surface area. The activity and thermal stability of the aluminasupported catalyst was also very high. The introduction of calcium, lanthanum, or cerium oxide into alumina support caused a decrease of the surface area in the way dependent on the support precursor drying method. These modifiers decreased the activity of palladium catalysts, and they required higher temperatures for the complete oxidation of methane than unmodified Pd/Al2O3. The improvement of the palladium activity by lanthanum and cerium support modifier was observed only at low temperatures of the reaction.

Zusammenfassung Kupfer kann in neutraler Lösung mit Brenzcatechinviolett photometrisch bestimmt werden. Da das Verfahren aber im Gegensatz zur Bi- und Th-Bestimmung durch eine ganze Reihe von anderen Kationen gestört wird, dürfte es nur in Ausnahmefällen zur Anwendung kommen.

Complete Oxidation of Methane over Palladium Supported on Alumina Modified with Calcium,Lanthanum,and Cerium Ions
