Let S(1),…,S(n),T(1),…,T(n) be random subsets of the set [m]={1,…,m}. We consider the random digraph D on the vertex set [n] defined as follows: the arc ij is present in D whenever S(i)∩T(j)≠0?. Assuming that the pairs of sets (S(i),T(i)), 1≤in, are independent and identically distributed, we study the in- and outdegree distributions of a typical vertex of D as n,m.  相似文献

In this paper, we are studying Dirichlet series Z(P,ξ,s) = Σn?N1rP(n)?s ξn, where PR+ [X1,…,Xr] and ξn = ξ1n1ξrnr, with ξiC, such that |ξi| = 1 and ξi ≠ 1, 1 ≦ ir. We show that Z(P, ξ,·) can be continued holomorphically to the whole complex plane, and that the values Z(P, ξ, ?k) for all non negative integers, belong to the field generated over Q by the ξi and the coefficients of P. If, there exists a number field K, containing the ξi, 1 ≦ ir, and the coefficients of P, then we study the denominators of Z(P, ξ, ?k) and we define a B-adic function ZB(P, ξ,·) which is equal, on class of negative integers, to Z(P, ξ, ?k).  相似文献

Let q ∈ {2, 3} and let 0 = s0 < s1 < … < sq = T be integers. For m, nZ, we put ¯m,n = {jZ| m? j ? n}. We set lj = sj − sj−1 for j ∈ 1, q. Given (p1,, pq) ∈ Rq, let b: ZR be a periodic function of period T such that b(·) = pj on sj−1 + 1, sj for each j ∈ 1, q. We study the spectral gaps of the Jacobi operator (Ju)(n) = u(n + 1) + u(n − 1) + b(n)u(n) acting on l2(Z). By [λ2j , λ2j−1] we denote the jth band of the spectrum of J counted from above for j ∈ 1, T. Suppose that pmpn for mn. We prove that the statements (i) and (ii) below are equivalent for λ ∈ R and i ∈ 1, T − 1.  相似文献

Nonsingularity of least common multiple matrices on gcd-closed sets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let n be a positive integer. Let S={x1,…,xn} be a set of n distinct positive integers. The least common multiple (LCM) matrix on S, denoted by [S], is defined to be the n×n matrix whose (i,j)-entry is the least common multiple [xi,xj] of xi and xj. The set S is said to be gcd-closed if for any xi,xjS,(xi,xj)∈S. For an integer m>1, let ω(m) denote the number of distinct prime factors of m. Define ω(1)=0. In 1997, Qi Sun conjectured that if S is a gcd-closed set satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}?2, then the LCM matrix [S] is nonsingular. In this paper, we settle completely Sun's conjecture. We show the following result: (i). If S is a gcd-closed set satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}?2, then the LCM matrix [S] is nonsingular. Namely, Sun's conjecture is true; (ii). For each integer r?3, there exists a gcd-closed set S satisfying maxxS{ω(x)}=r, such that the LCM matrix [S] is singular.  相似文献

Given positive integers n,k,t, with 2?k?n, and t<2k, let m(n,k,t) be the minimum size of a family F of (nonempty distinct) subsets of [n] such that every k-subset of [n] contains at least t members of F, and every (k-1)-subset of [n] contains at most t-1 members of F. For fixed k and t, we determine the order of magnitude of m(n,k,t). We also consider related Turán numbers T?r(n,k,t) and Tr(n,k,t), where T?r(n,k,t) (Tr(n,k,t)) denotes the minimum size of a family such that every k-subset of [n] contains at least t members of F. We prove that T?r(n,k,t)=(1+o(1))Tr(n,k,t) for fixed r,k,t with and n→∞.  相似文献

It is proved that the operator Lie algebra ε(T,T) generated by a bounded linear operator T on Hilbert space H is finite-dimensional if and only if T=N+Q, N is a normal operator, [N,Q]=0, and dimA(Q,Q)<+∞, where ε(T,T) denotes the smallest Lie algebra containing T,T, and A(Q,Q) denotes the associative subalgebra of B(H) generated by Q,Q. Moreover, we also give a sufficient and necessary condition for operators to generate finite-dimensional semi-simple Lie algebras. Finally, we prove that if ε(T,T) is an ad-compact E-solvable Lie algebra, then T is a normal operator.  相似文献

Let A be an n-square normal matrix over C, and Qm, n be the set of strictly increasing integer sequences of length m chosen from 1,…, n. For α,βQm, n denote by A[α|β] the submatrix obtained from A by using rows numbered α and columns numbered β. For k∈{0,1,…,m} write z.sfnc;αβ|=k if there exists a rearrangement of 1,…,m, say i1,…,ik, ik+1,…,im, such that α(ij)=β(ij), j=1,…,k, and {α(ik+1),…,α(im)};∩{β(ik+1),…,β(im)}=ø. Let

?k(A)= maxU∈|det(U1AU) [α|β]|
, where |αβ|=k. Theorem 1 establishes a bound for ?k(A), 0?k<m?1, in terms of a classical variational inequality due to Fermat. Let A be positive semidefinite Hermitian, n?2m. Theorem 2 leads to an interlacing inequality which, in the case n=4, m=2, resolves in the affirmative the conjecture that
?m(A)??m?1(A)????0(A)

If AT(m, N), the real-valued N-linear functions on Em, and σSN, the symmetric group on {…,N}, then we define the permutation operator Pσ: T(m, N) → T(m, N) such that Pσ(A)(x1,x2,…,xN = A(xσ(1),xσ(2),…, xσ(N)). Suppose Σqi=1ni = N, where the ni are positive integers. In this paper we present a condition on σ that is sufficient to guarantee that 〈Pσ(A1?A2???Aq),A1?A2?? ? Aq〉 ? 0 for AiS(m, ni), where S(m, ni) denotes the subspace of T(m, ni) consisting of all the fully symmetric members of T(m, ni). Also we present a broad generalization of the Neuberger identity which is sometimes useful in answering questions of the type described below. Suppose G and H are subgroups of SN. We let TG(m, N) denote all AT(m, N) such that Pσ(A) = A for all σ∈G. We define the symmetrizer SG: T(m, N)→TG(m,N) such that SG(A) = 1/|G|Σσ∈G Pσ(A). Suppose H is a subgroup of G and ATH(m, N). Clearly 6SG6(A) 6? 6A6. We are interested in the reverse type of comparison. In particular, if D is a suitably chosen subset of TH(m,N), then can we explicitly present a constant C>0 such that 6 SG(A)6?C6A6 for all AD?  相似文献

If G is a graph with p vertices and at least one edge, we set φ (G) = m n max |f(u) ? f(v)|, where the maximum is taken over all edges uv and the minimum over all one-to-one mappings f : V(G) → {1, 2, …, p}: V(G) denotes the set of vertices of G.Pn will denote a path of length n whose vertices are integers 1, 2, …, n with i adjacent to j if and only if |i ? j| = 1. Pm × Pn will denote a graph whose vertices are elements of {1, 2, …, m} × {1, 2, …, n} and in which (i, j), (r, s) are adjacent whenever either i = r and |j ? s| = 1 or j = s and |i ? r| = 1.Theorem.If max(m, n) ? 2, thenφ(Pm × Pn) = min(m, n).  相似文献

Let a,b and n be positive integers and the set S={x1,…,xn} of n distinct positive integers be a divisor chain (i.e. there exists a permutation σ on {1,…,n} such that xσ(1)|…|xσ(n)). In this paper, we show that if a|b, then the ath power GCD matrix (Sa) having the ath power (xi,xj)a of the greatest common divisor of xi and xj as its i,j-entry divides the bth power GCD matrix (Sb) in the ring Mn(Z) of n×n matrices over integers. We show also that if a?b and n?2, then the ath power GCD matrix (Sa) does not divide the bth power GCD matrix (Sb) in the ring Mn(Z). Similar results are also established for the power LCM matrices.  相似文献

Let Z = {Z0, Z1, Z2,…} be a martingale, with difference sequence X0 = Z0, Xi = Zi ? Zi ? 1, i ≥ 1. The principal purpose of this paper is to prove that the best constant in the inequality λP(supi |Xi| ≥ λ) ≤ C supiE |Zi|, for λ > 0, is C = (log 2)?1. If Z is finite of length n, it is proved that the best constant is Cn = [n(21n ? 1)]?1. The analogous best constant Cn(z) when Z0z is also determined. For these finite cases, examples of martingales attaining equality are constructed. The results follow from an explicit determination of the quantity Gn(z, E) = supzP(maxi=1,…,n |Xi| ≥ 1), the supremum being taken over all martingales Z with Z0z and E|Zn| = E. The expression for Gn(z,E) is derived by induction, using methods from the theory of moments.  相似文献

Let k be a field, let R=k[x1,…,xm] be a polynomial ring with the standard Zm-grading (multigrading), let L be a Noetherian multigraded R-module, and let be a finite free multigraded presentation of L over R. Given a choice S of a multihomogeneous basis of E, we construct an explicit canonical finite free multigraded resolution T(Φ,S) of the R-module L. In the case of monomial ideals our construction recovers the Taylor resolution. A main ingredient of our work is a new linear algebra construction of independent interest, which produces from a representation ? over k of a matroid M a canonical finite complex of finite dimensional k-vector spaces T(?) that is a resolution of Ker?. We also show that the length of T(?) and the dimensions of its components are combinatorial invariants of the matroid M, and are independent of the representation map ?.  相似文献

Given a triple (G, W, γ) of an open bounded set G in the complex plane, a weight function W(z) which is analytic and different from zero in G, and a number γ with 0 ≤ γ ≤ 1, we consider the problem of locally uniform rational approximation of any function ƒ(z), which is analytic in G, by weighted rational functions Wmi+ni(z)Rmi, ni(z)i = 0, where Rmi, ni(z) = Pmi(z)/Qni(z) with deg Pmimi and deg Qnini for all i ≥ 0 and where mi + ni → ∞ as i → ∞ such that lim mi/[mi + ni] = γ. Our main result is a necessary and sufficient condition for such an approximation to be valid. Applications of the result to various classical weights are also included.  相似文献

Let A denote an n×n matrix with all its elements real and non-negative, and let ri be the sum of the elements in the ith row of A, i=1,…,n. Let B=A?D(r1,…,rn), where D(r1,…,rn) is the diagonal matrix with ri at the position (i,i). Then it is proved that A is irreducible if and only if rank B=n?1 and the null space of BT contains a vector d whose entries are all non-null.  相似文献

Erd?s and Selfridge [3] proved that a product of consecutive integers can never be a perfect power. That is, the equation x(x?+?1)(x?+?2)...(x?+?(m???1))?=?y n has no solutions in positive integers x,m,n where m, n?>?1 and y?∈?Q. We consider the equation $$ (x-a_1)(x-a_2) \ldots (x-a_k) + r = y^n $$ where 0?≤?a 1?<?a 2?<???<?a k are integers and, with r?∈?Q, n?≥?3 and we prove a finiteness theorem for the number of solutions x in Z, y in Q. Following that, we show that, more interestingly, for every nonzero integer n?>?2 and for any nonzero integer r which is not a perfect n-th power for which the equation admits solutions, k is bounded by an effective bound.  相似文献

In this paper we study subsets of a finite set that intersect each other in at most one element. Each subset intersects most of the other subsets in exactly one element. The following theorem is one of our main conclusions. Let S1,… Sm be m subsets of an n-set S with |S1| ? 2 (l = 1, …,m) and |SiSj| ? 1 (ij; i, j = 1, …, m). Suppose further that for some fixed positive integer c each Si has non-empty intersection with at least m ? c of the remaining subsets. Then there is a least positive integer M(c) depending only on c such that either m ? n or m ? M(c).  相似文献

Let R = (r1,…, rm) and S = (s1,…, sn) be nonnegative integral vectors, and let U(R, S) denote the class of all m × n matrices of 0's and 1's having row sum vector R and column sum vector S. An invariant position of U(R, S) is a position whose entry is the same for all matrices in U(R, S). The interchange graph G(R, S) is the graph where the vertices are the matrices in U(R, S) and where two matrices are joined by an edge provided they differ by an interchange. We prove that when 1 ≤ rin ? 1 (i = 1,…, m) and 1 ≤ sjm ? 1 (j = 1,…, n), G(R, S) is prime if and only if U(R, S) has no invariant positions.  相似文献

Let {T1, Y1}i=1 be a sequence of positive independent random variables. Let, also, Z1 = βY1 ? πTi, i = 1, 2, …, where Y1 = Max(0, Yi ? w), w ? 0, and where β < 0 and π is such that E(Z1) < 0. We consider the random walk of partial sums Sn = ?ni=1Zi in the presence of an absorbing region (u, ∞), u ? 0, and S0 ≡ 0. Of interest is ψ(u) = Pr(S? ≤ u) where S? = Sup(0, S1, S2, …, Sn, …).  相似文献
