The paper presents a high nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HN-PCF) with highly duty ratio for time-stretch analog-to-digital conversion (TSADC). The simulation results show that a nonlinear of 42.26 W−1 km−1 and the flattened dispersion of less than 1.0 ps/(nm km) are obtained in more than 495 nm waveband (1205–1700 nm). Owing to its high nonlinear coefficient and flattened dispersion, the high nonlinear PCF is expected to be suitable for supercontinuum (SC) generation. The numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed high duty ratio HN-PCF can generate wideband SC.  相似文献

We propose an index guiding highly nonlinear birefringent photonic crystal fiber (PCF). Using a full vectorial finite element method (FEM), we investigate the key propagation characteristics of the proposed design. We demonstrate that it is possible to design a simple PCF structure configuration with a birefringence in the order of 10−2 and a nonlinear coefficient of 49 W−1 km−1 at the wavelength of 1.55 μm. It is demonstrated that two zero dispersion wavelengths can be achieved by the proposed design. Bending analysis and fabrication issues are also discussed thoroughly.  相似文献

We report a novel design of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a rectangular array of four closely-spaced, highly elliptical air holes in the core region and a circular-air-hole cladding. The proposed PCF is able to support ultra-wideband single-polarization single-mode (SPSM) transmission from the visible band to the near infrared band. With the aid of the inner cladding formed by the central air holes, one polarization of the fundamental mode can be cut off at very short wavelengths and ultra-wideband SPSM propagation can be achieved. The inner cladding also suppresses the higher order modes and allows large air filling fraction in the outer cladding while the proposed fiber remains SPSM, which significantly reduces the mode effective area and the confinement loss. Our simulation results indicate that the proposed PCF has a 1540 nm SMSP range with <0.25 dB/km confinement loss and an effective area of 2.2 μm2. Moreover, the group velocity dispersion (GVD) of the proposed PCF can also be tuned to be flat and near zero at the near infrared band (∼800 nm) by optimizing the outer cladding structure, potentially enabling many nonlinear applications.  相似文献

A large mode area photonic crystal fiber (LMA PCF) with an effective area of 180 μm2 is used to generate a high energy, micro-joule range, flat, octave spanning supercontinuum (SC) extending from ~ 600 nm to ~ 1720 nm. A train of femtosecond pulses from a widely-tunable parametric amplifier pumped by a Ti:Sapphire regenerative amplifier system are coupled into a 20 cm length of LMA PCF generating a SC of 1.4 μJ energy. We present an experimental study of the high energy SC as a function of the input power and the pumping wavelength. The spectrum obtained at a pump wavelength of 1260 nm presents spectral flatness variation less than 12 dB over more than 1.1 octave bandwidth. The physical processes behind the SC formation are described in the normal and the anomalous dispersion regions. Our experimental results are successfully compared with the numerical solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we present and explore a new hybrid cladding design for improved birefringence and highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) in a broad range of wavelength bands. The birefringence of the fundamental mode in such a PCF is numerically analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). It is demonstrated that it is possible to design a simple highly nonlinear hybrid PCF (HyPCF) with a nonlinear coefficient of the about 46 W−1 km−1 at a 1.55 μm wavelength. According to simulation, the highest modal birefringence and lowest confinement loss of our proposed structure at the excitation wavelength of λ = 1.55 μm can be achieved at a magnitude of 1.77 × 10−2 and of the order less than 102 dB/km with only five rings of air-holes in the fiber cladding.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the dynamics of soliton propagation at 850 nm in chloroform filled liquid core photonic crystal fiber (LCPCF) by using both finite element method (FEM) and split step Fourier method (SSFM). We propose a novel chloroform filled PCF structure that operates as a single mode at 850 nm featuring an enhanced dispersion and nonlinearity for efficient soliton propagation with low input pulse energy and low loss over small distances. We adopt the projection operator method (POM) to derive the pulse parameter equations which clearly describes the impact of fourth order dispersion on the pulse propagation in the proposed PCF. To analyse the quality of the pulse, we perform the stability analysis of pulse propagation numerically and compare our results of the newly designed chloroform filled PCF with that of standard silica PCF. From the stability analysis, we infer that the soliton pulse propagation in modified chloroform filled PCF is highly stable against the perturbation.  相似文献

We present a new design study of ultra-flat near zero dispersion PCF with selectively liquid infiltration with all uniform air-holes in the cladding. The dependence of the individual parameters upon dispersion has been presented in detail. The study establishes that varying Λ influences the total dispersion, whereas d has the desired effect of modifying the dispersion slope, and varying nL modifies both. With the above study we could achieve near zero ultra-flat dispersion as small as 0 ± 0.41 ps/nm/km for broad wavelength range of 452 nm. The optimized near zero ultra-flat dispersion PCF has been targeted for smooth and flat broadband spectrum supercontinuum generation (SCG) for near Infrared (IR) applications. Broadband SC generations corresponding to three different designs of ultra-flat dispersion fiber have been carried out by using picoseconds pulse laser around the first zero dispersion wavelengths (ZDW). The numerical results show that FWHM of around 400 nm with less than a meter long fiber can be achieved with these fibers that cover most of the communication wavelength bands. The proposed design study will be applicable for applications in the field of tomography, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system, spectroscopy, etc.  相似文献

In this paper, we report a chalcogenide As2Se3 glass photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for dispersion compensating application. We have used the improved fully vectorial effective index method (IFVEIM) for comparing the dispersion properties (negative and zero dispersion) and effective area in hexagonal and square lattice of As2Se3 glass PCF using different wavelength windows. It has been demonstrated that due to their negative dispersion parameter and negative dispersion slope in wavelength range 1.2-2.5 μm, both lattice structures of As2Se3 glass PCFs, with pitch (Λ = 2 μm), can be used as dispersion compensating fibers. Further, design parameters have been obtained to achieve zero dispersion in these fibers. It is also shown that As2Se3 glass PCF provides much higher negative dispersion compared to silica PCF of the same structure, in wavelength range 1.25-1.6 μm and hence such PCF have high potential to be used as a dispersion compensating fiber in optical communication systems.  相似文献

We demonstrate novel photonic-crystal fibers (PCFs) fabricated of a highly nonlinear glass. Dispersion profiles and nonlinearity of these fibers are tailored with an array of submicron holes in the fiber core. With the PCF structure designed to provide a nonlinearity on the order of 103 W−1 km−1 at the radiation wavelength of 1 μm and a fundamental-mode dispersion profile with zero group-velocity dispersion around 1.19 μm, unamplified femtosecond Cr: forsterite laser pulses are efficiently frequency-converted into the 540-1000-nm wavelength range through solitonic spectral-transformation mechanisms and four-wave mixing.  相似文献

In this paper, we proposed a dual-enhanced core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with high birefringence and ultra-high negative dispersion for dispersion compensation in a polarization maintained optical system. Using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, we presented dispersion compensating PCF (DC-PCF) with negative dispersion between −1650 ps nm−1 km−1 and −2305 ps nm−1 km−1 in C-band and particularly −2108 ps nm−1 km−1 in λ = 1.55 μm wavelength. By this method, we can compensate dispersion in 124 km long span of a conventional single mode fiber (SMF) by 1 km-long of the DC-PCF at λ = 1.55 μm wavelength. Moreover, fundamental mode of the proposed PCF can induce birefringence about 3.5 × 10−3 at 1.55 μm wavelength.  相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical design of highly nonlinear microstructure optical fiber with dispersion-flat characteristics. The APSS™ 2.3 software based on the finite difference method with perfectly matched boundary conditions is used to simulate the properties of the proposed microstructure optical fiber. According to simulation, the proposed fiber warrants a high nonlinear coefficient of the order 41 W−1 km−1 and a low dispersion of 0.25 ps/nm/km at 1550 nm wavelength. It assumes a dispersion-flat characteristic of 0 ± 0.50 ps/nm/km in a 1450-1620 nm wavelength range centering 1550 nm wavelength with a modest number of design parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the design of a highly nonlinear dispersion flattened high-index-core square photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for applications in optical coherence tomography (OCT). The finite-difference method with an anisotropic perfectly matched boundary layer is used as a numerical simulation tool. A set of optimized design parameters numerically resulted in a nonlinear coefficient of 79.9W−1 km−1 and a dispersion of −0:186 ps/(nm·km) at a wavelength of approximately 1.06 μm. Owing to its high nonlinear coefficient and flattened dispersion, the PCF is expected to be suitable for broadband supercontinuum generation, which is considered very important in OCT medical applications.  相似文献

The present article describes novel highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (HN-PCFs) with flattened chromatic dispersion and low confinement losses. The proposed design has been simulated based on the finite-difference method with anisotropic perfectly matched layers absorbing boundary condition. It is proved that the design novel HN-PCFs is obtained a nonlinear coefficient greater than 45 W−1 km−1 and low dispersion slope −0.009 ps/(nm2.km) at 1.55 μm wavelength. In addition, results from numerical simulation show that the ultra-flattened dispersion of 0 ± 0.65 ps/(nm.km) can be obtained in a 1.36-1.62 μm wavelength range with confinement losses lower than 10−7 dB/m in the same wavelength range. Another advantage of the proposed HN-PCFs is that it possessed modest number of design parameters.  相似文献

A novel photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based on a four-hole unit is proposed in order to meet the requirements of high birefringence, negative dispersion and confinement loss in fiber-optic communication. The proposed design has been simulated based on the full vector finite element method (FVFEM) and anisotropic perfectly matched layers (APML). Analysis results show that the proposed PCF can achieve a high birefringence to the order of 10−2 at the wavelength of 1.55 μm, a large negative dispersion over a wide wavelength range and confinement losses lower than 10−9 dB/m simultaneously, which has important applications in polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers, single-polarization single-mode (SPSM) fibers, dispersion compensation fibers and so on.  相似文献

In this paper, we numerically investigate and optimize the profile of a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) that can eliminate the residual dispersion from the telecom link as well as can provide identical dispersion compensation over S + C + L bands. A full-vectorial finite element method combined with genetic algorithm is used to optimize the fiber’s profile as well as to accurately determine its modal properties. The optimized PCF exhibits a dispersion of −98.3 ps/nm/km with a variance of ±0.55 ps/nm/km from 1.48 μm to 1.63 μm (i.e., over 150 nm bandwidth) and a zero dispersion slope. Macro-bending loss performance of the designed PCF is also studied and it is found that the fiber shows low bending losses for the smallest feasible bending radius of 5 mm. Further, sensitivity analysis has been carried out for the proposed fiber design and it has been found that a ±2% change in the fiber parameters may lead to a ±8% shift of the dispersion from its nominal value.  相似文献

Proposed in this paper is a simple square-lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with nearly zero flattened dispersion (NZFD) over a wide wavelength span. We make a trade-off between the coupling efficiency and the effective mode area in order to obtain relatively low confinement loss and high nonlinearity. Via full-vector finite element method with hybrid edge/node elements, over 1137–1710 nm, the dispersion coefficient is 0.3 ± 0.3 ps/(km nm), the confinement loss is relatively low, in level of 10−7–10−4 dB/km and the effective mode area remains 5.88–6.59 μm2.  相似文献

Considering the optical stability of solution, the sugar-solution is infused into the outer core ring of dual-concentric-core photonic crystal fiber (DCCPCF). The influences of structure parameters and solution concentration on the phase and loss matching are comprehensively analyzed. By choosing the appropriate outer core mode to completely couple with the inner core fundamental mode, the large negative dispersion PCF around 1.55 μm is designed, which has the dispersion value of − 39,500 ps/km/nm as well as bandwidth of 7.4 nm and effective mode area of 28.3 μm2. The designed PCF with hybrid cladding structure can effectively compensate the positive dispersion of conventional single mode fiber, and suppress the system perturbation caused by a series of nonlinear effects. Considering the mode field mismatching between the DCCPCF and the tapered fiber, the calculated connection loss around 1.55 μm is below 3 dB. In addition, the equivalent propagation constants of two leaky modes are deduced from the coupled-mode theory, and the complete mode coupling case can be well predicted by comparing the real and imaginary parts of propagation constants.  相似文献

In this paper, we systematically study a designed structure of a bending dual-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF). We propose the controllable wavelength-selective coupling PCF. This coupler allows highly accurate control of the filtering wavelength. The different wavelengths can be selected by controlling the bending radius of the fiber. Coupling characteristics of novel bending wavelength-selective coupling PCF are evaluated by using a vector finite element method and their application to a multiplexer demultiplexer (MUX–DEMUX) based on the novel coupler is investigated. When the fiber length is 4168 μm, the bending radius of PCF couplers for 1.48/1.55 μm, 1.3/1.55 μm, 0.98/1.55 μm, and 0.85/1.55 μm is calculated, respectively, and the beam propagation analysis is performed. Different from the traditional wavelength-selective coupling PCF, the dual-core PCF is bent and it can realize the separation of multiple wavelengths.  相似文献

A new nonlinear dispersion flattened photonic crystal fiber with low confinement loss is proposed. This fiber has threefold symmetry core. The doped region in the core and the big air-holes in the 1st ring can make high nonlinearity in the PCF. And the small air-holes in the 1st ring and the radial increasing diameters air-holes rings in cladding can be used to achieve the dispersion properties of the PCF. We can achieve the optimized optical properties by carefully selecting the PCFs structure parameters. A PCF with flattened dispersion is obtained. The dispersion is less than 0.8 ps/(nm km) and is larger than −0.7 ps/(nm km) from 1.515 μm to 1.622 μm. The nonlinear coefficient is about 12.6456 W−1 km−1, the fundamental mode area is about 10.2579 μm2. The confinement loss is 0.30641 dB/km. This work may be useful for effective design and fabrication of dispersion flattened photonic crystal fibers with high nonlinearities.  相似文献
