To increase the sensitivity in surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measurements, the high surface area of zinc oxide nanowires (ZnO NWs) was used. ZnO NWs on silicon substrates were prepared and used as substrates for further growth of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation was used to reduce silver ions to AgNPs on the ZnO wires. With proper growth conditions for both ZnO NWs and AgNPs, the substrates exhibit SERS enhancement factors greater than 106. To understand the influences of the morphologies of the ZnO NWs on the growth of AgNPs, the growing time and temperature were varied. The concentration of silver nitrate and irradiation time of UV radiation were also varied. The resulting AgNPs were probed with para‐nitrothiophenol to quantify the SERS enhancements obtained from the varying conditions. The results indicate that ZnO NWs could be grown at temperatures higher than 490 °C and higher growth temperatures result in smaller diameter of the formed ZnO NWs. Also, the morphologies of ZnO NWs did not significantly alter the SERS signals. The concentration of silver nitrate affects the SERS signals significantly and the optimal concentration was found to be in the range of 10–20 mM. With irradiation times longer than 90 s, the resulting AgNPs showed similar SERS intensities. With optimized conditions, the AgNPs/ZnO substrates are highly suitable for SERS measurements with a typical enhancement factor of higher than 106. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

If a Raman line consists of several overlapping components, any attempt to perform a quantitative analysis of the wavenumber‐dependent depolarization ratio ρ(ν) fails, since ρ(ν) of a composite line is not an additive function of ρ(ν) of its constituents, and for a composite line representing an envelope of i single lines, ρcomp(ν) ≠ ∑ρi(ν). This situation causes significant difficulties in the analysis of Raman spectra, especially in the case of weak lines (overtones, combination bands, etc.) situated in the close vicinity of strong fundamentals. In this paper, a specific algorithm is employed to recover isotropic and anisotropic Raman profiles. Using toluene and toluene‐d8 as examples, it is shown that the ρ(ν) spectra of all components of a composite spectrum can be easily restored, facilitating the assignment of overtones, hot bands, and combination bands. To better understand experimentally observed surface‐enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) adsorbed on nanoscaled silver substrates, a systematic theoretical study was performed by carrying out density functional theory and time‐dependent density functional theory calculations. 2,2′,5,5′‐tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB52) was chosen as a model molecule of PCBs, and Agn (n = 2, 4, 6, and 10) clusters were used to mimic active sites of substrates. Calculated normal Raman spectra of PCB52–Agn (n = 2, 4, 6, and 10) complexes are analogical in profile to that of isolated PCB52 with only slightly enhanced intensity. In contrast, the corresponding SERS spectra calculated at adopted incident light are strongly enhanced, and the calculated enhancement factors are 104 ~ 105. Thus, the experimentally observed SERS phenomenon of PCBs supported on Ag substrates should correspond to the SERS spectra rather than the normal Raman spectra. The dominant enhancement in Raman intensities origins from the charge transfer resonance enhancement between the molecule and clusters. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

High‐resolution stimulated Raman spectra of13C2H4 in the regions of the ν2 and ν3 Raman active modes have been recorded at two temperatures (145 and 296 K) based on the quasi continuous‐wave (cw) stimulated Raman spectrometer at Instituto de Estructura de la Materia IEM‐CSIC in Madrid. A tensorial formalism adapted to X2Y4 planar asymmetric tops with D2h symmetry (developed in Dijon) and a program suite called D2hTDS (now part of the XTDS/SPVIEW spectroscopic software) were proposed to analyze and calculate the high‐resolution spectra. A total of 103 and 51 lines corresponding to ν2 and ν3 Raman active modes have been assigned and fitted in wavenumber with a global root mean square deviation of 0.54 × 10−3 and 0.36 × 10−3 cm−1, respectively. Due to the fact that the Raman scattering effect is weak, we did not perform in this contribution the line intensities analysis. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A simple method is demonstrated to detect DNA at low concentrations on the basis of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) via polyvinyl alcohol‐protected silver grasslike patterns (PVA‐Ag GPs) grown on the surface of the common Al substrate. By the SERS measurements of sodium citrate and thymine, the PVA‐Ag GPs are shown to be an excellent SERS substrate with good activity, stability and reproducibility. With the use of the tested molecule of thymine, the enhancement factor of the PVA‐Ag GPs is up to ~1.4 × 108. The PVA‐Ag GPs are also shown to be an excellent SERS substrate with good biocompatibility for DNA detection, and the detection limit is down to ~10−5 mg/g. Meanwhile, the assignations of the Raman bands and the adsorption behaviors of the DNA molecules are also analyzed. In this work, the geometry optimization and the wavenumber analysis of adenine–Ag and guanine–Ag complexes for the ground states are performed using density functional theory, B3LYP functional and the LanL2DZ basis set. The transition energies and the oscillator strengths of adenine–Ag and guanine–Ag for the lowest six singlet excited states were calculated by using the time‐dependent density functional theory method with the same functional and basis set. The results show that the charge transfer in the adenine–Ag and guanine–Ag complexes should be the chemical factor for the SERS of the DNA molecules. Lastly, this method may be employed in large‐scale preparation of substrates that have been widely applied in the Raman analysis of DNA because the fabrication process is simple and inexpensive. While recording SERS spectra of pure β‐carotene at sub‐micromole concentrations for reference purpose, we discovered an unusual spectral response never reported before. In pre‐resonance conditions with the 532‐nm line, SERS of β‐carotene with AgNPs exhibits among the strong υ(CC) mode at 1512 cm−1 unshifted from normal Raman spectrum, additional strong bands at 1649, 1575 and 1387 cm−1 as well as other medium bands not observed in the Raman spectrum of the crystalline powder. Such behavior is explained in terms of selection rules relaxation upon cyclohexene terminal rings of the β‐carotene interaction with the NP surface. AFM images of the SERS system suggested dimers and trimers clustering of the nanoparticles with adsorbed β‐carotene. In light of the new SERS feature the consequences in correct interpretation of the SERS imaging from complex biosystems containing carotenoids are discussed. Relative intensity ratio of the β‐carotene band at 1512 cm−1 and water against concentration allowed a reliable SERS calibration curve for 50 to 500 nmol l−1 concentration range and provided quantitative SERS assessment of the carotenoid content in the sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) gonads extracts. Vibrational bands of L ‐tryptophan which was adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles (∼10 nm in diameter) have been investigated in the spectral range of 200–1700 cm−1 using surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. Compared with the normal Raman scattering (NRS) of L ‐tryptophan in either 0.5 M aqueous solution (NRS‐AS) or solid powder (NRS‐SP), the intensified signals by SERS have made the SERS investigation at a lower molecular concentration (5 × 10−4 M ) possible. Ab initio calculations at the B3LYP/6‐311G level have been carried out to predict the optimal structure and vibrational wavenumbers for the zwitterionic form of L ‐tryptophan. Facilitated with the theoretical prediction, the observed vibrational modes of L ‐tryptophan in the NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, and SERS spectra have been analyzed. In the spectroscopic observations, there are no significant changes for the vibrational bands of the indole ring in either NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, or SERS. In contrast, spectral intensities involving the vibrations of carboxylate and amino groups are weak in NRS‐AS and NRS‐SP, but strong in SERS. The intensity enhancement in the SERS spectrum can reach 103–104‐fold magnification. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis, the carboxylate and amino groups of L ‐tryptophan are determined to be the preferential terminal groups to attach onto the surfaces of Ag nanoparticles in the SERS measurement. Histidine is an important and versatile amino acid residue that plays a variety of structural and functional roles in proteins. Although the Raman bands of histidine are generally weak, histidine in the N‐deuterated cationic form with imidazole Nπ D and Nτ D bonds (N‐deuterated histidinium) gives two strong Raman bands assignable to the C4C5 stretch (νCC) and the Nπ C2 Nτ symmetric stretch (νNCN) of the imidazole ring. We examined the Raman spectra of N‐deuterated histidinium in 12 crystals with known structures. The observed νCC and νNCN wavenumbers were analyzed to find empirical correlations with the conformation and hydrogen bonding. The effect of conformation on the vibrational wavenumber was expressed as a threefold cosine function of the Cα Cβ C4C5 torsional angle. The effect of hydrogen bonding at Nπ or Nτ was assumed to be proportional to the inverse sixth power of the distance between the hydrogen and acceptor atoms. Multiple linear regression analysis clearly shows that the conformational effect on the vibrational wavenumber is comparable for νCC and νNCN. The hydrogen bond at Nπ weakly lowers the νCC wavenumber and substantially raises the νNCN wavenumber. On the other hand, the hydrogen bond at Nτ strongly raises the νCC wavenumber but does not affect the νNCN wavenumber. These empirical correlations may be useful in Raman spectral analysis of the conformation and hydrogen bonding states of histidine residues in proteins. We report the observation of large surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) (106) for 4‐tert‐butylpyridine molecules adsorbed on a silver electrode surface in an electrochemical cell with electrode potential set at − 0.5 V. A decrease in electrode potential to − 0.3 V was accompanied by a decrease in relative intensities of the vibrational modes. However, there were no changes in vibrational wavenumbers. Comparison of both normal solution Raman and SERS spectra shows very large enhancement of the intensities of a1, a2, and b2 modes at laser excitation of 488 nm. Enhancement of the non‐totally symmetric modes indicates the presence of charge transfer as a contributor to the enhancement. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Measurement and interpretation of the excitation wavelength dependence of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of molecules chemisorbed on plasmonic, e.g. Ag nanoparticle (NP) surfaces, are of principal importance for revealing the charge transfer (CT) mechanism contribution to the overall SERS enhancement. SERS spectra, their excitation wavelength dependence in the 445–780‐nm range and factor analysis (FA) were used for the identification of two Ag‐2,2′:6′,2″‐terpyridine (tpy) surface species, denoted Ag+–tpy and Ag(0)–tpy, on Ag NPs in systems with unmodified and/or purposefully modified Ag NPs originating from hydroxylamine hydrochloride‐reduced hydrosols. Ag+–tpy is a spectral analogue of [Ag(tpy)]+ complex cation, and its SERS shows virtually no excitation wavelength dependence. By contrast, SERS of Ag(0)–tpy surface complex generated upon chloride‐induced compact aggregate formation and/or in strongly reducing ambient shows a pronounced excitation wavelength dependence attributed to a CT resonance (the chemical mechanism) contribution to the overall SERS enhancement. Both the resonance (λexc = 532 nm) and off‐resonance (λexc = 780 nm) pure‐component spectra of Ag(0)–tpy obtained by FA are largely similar to surface‐enhanced resonance Raman scattering (λexc = 532 nm in resonance with singlet metal to ligand CT (1 MLCT) transition) and SERS (λexc = 780 nm) spectra of [Fe(tpy)2]2+ complex dication. Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in practical application and theoretical research mostly depends on the performance of the SERS substrate. In this study, a new SERS substrate which is based on inverted self‐assembly of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) on glycidyl methacrylate‐ethylene dimethacrylate (GMA‐EDMA) porous material is developed. The characterization results show the GMA‐EDMA material with intertwined pores may contribute to the distribution of the AgNPs to fabricate an ideal substrate for SERS detection. In view of the characteristics of porous material, an inverted assembly method is proposed and used in operation to avoid the adverse gravity effect which may make the AgNPs plug up the pore channel and distribute on the surface unevenly. By the inverted self‐assembly method, the AgNPs could uniformly distribute on the surface of the material stably. The prepared substrate presents ultrasensitivity and good reproducibility for SERS detection. The enhancement factor of rhodamine 6G (R6G) detection is approximately 1014 and the relative standard deviation of each characteristic peak is about 15% when the substrate is used. The substrate also shows a good performance in detecting paraquat and thymine. The ultrasensitive SERS substrate can be readily integrated into pesticide detection systems and biological sample analysis. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The substrate‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of 4‐aminobenzenethiol (4‐ABT) adsorbed on Au surfaces has been investigated. 4‐ABT is one of the very unique adsorbate molecules whose SERS spectral patterns are known to be noticeably dependent on the relative contribution of chemical enhancement mechanism vs electromagnetic enhancement mechanism. The SERS spectral patterns of 4‐ABT adsorbed on gold substrates with various surface morphology have thus been analyzed in terms of the symmetry types of the vibrational modes. Almost invisibly weak b2 type vibrational bands were observed in the SERS spectra of the 4‐ABT adsorbed on Au colloidal sol nanoparticles or commercially available Au micro‐powders because of the weak contribution of the chemical enhancement. However, greatly enhanced b2 vibrational bands were observed in the spectra of the 4‐ABT molecules adsorbed on the synthesized Au(Zn) sponge or the electrochemically roughened Au(ORC) foil caused by the strong contribution of the chemical enhancement mechanism. Melamine, a nitrogen‐rich chemical, has recently caused enormous economic losses to the food industry due to the cases of milk products adulterated by melamine. This has led to an urgent need of rapid and reliable methods for detection of melamine in food. In this study, surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy was used to detect melamine in liquid milk. The sample preparation with liquid milk is very easy; it has to be only diluted with double‐distilled water followed by centrifugation. By using a silver colloid, at least a 105‐fold enhancement of the Raman signal was achieved for the measurement of melamine. The limit of detection by this method was 0.01 µg ml−1 for melamine standard samples. Based on the intensity of the Raman vibrational bands normalised to that of the band at 928 cm−1 (CH2), an external standard method was employed for quantitative analysis. The linear regression square (R2) of the curve was 0.9998; the limit of quantitation using this approach was 0.5 µg ml−1 of melamine in liquid milk; the relative standard deviation was ≤10%; and recoveries were from 93 to 109%. The test results for SERS were very precise and as good as those obtained by liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. The method was simple, fast(only needs about 3 min), cost effective, and sensitive for the detection of melamine in liquid milk samples. Therefore, it is more suitable for the field detection of melamine in liquid milk. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Infrared and Raman spectra of dideuterated acetylene containing one 13C atom, 13C12CD2, have been recorded and analysed to obtain detailed information on the fundamental ν 2 band and associated combination and hot bands. Infrared spectra were recorded at 4?×?10?3?cm?1 resolution in the region 1150?2900?cm?1, which contains combination and hot bands from the ground and the bending v 4?=?1 and v 5?=?1 states. The Q-branches of the ν 2 fundamental and associated hot bands (ν 2?+?ν 4???ν 4, ν 2?+?ν 5???ν 5, ν 2?+?2ν 4???2ν 4, ν 2?+?2ν 5???2ν 5 and ν 2?+?ν 4?+?ν 5???(ν 4?+?ν 5)) were recorded using inverse Raman spectroscopy, with an instrumental resolution of about 3?×?10?3?cm?1. In addition, the observation of the 2ν 2???ν 2 Raman band was carried out populating the v 2?=?1 state by stimulated Raman pumping. In total, 11 Raman and 9 infrared bands were analysed, involving all the l-vibrational components of the excited stretching?bending manifolds up to v t ?=?v 4?+?v 5?=?2.

A simultaneous analysis of all infrared and Raman assigned transitions has been performed on the basis of a theoretical model which takes into account the rotation and vibration l-type resonances within each vibrational manifold and the Darling?Dennison anharmonic resonance between the ν 2?+?2ν 4 and ν 2?+?2ν 5 states. The parameters obtained reproduce the assigned transition wavenumbers with a standard deviation of the same order of magnitude as the experimental uncertainty.  相似文献

The characteristics of the sol–gel matrix embedding Ag nanoparticles functionalized with 25,27‐dimercaptoacetic acid‐26,28‐dihydroxy‐4‐tert‐butylcalix[4]arene (DMCX) suitable for the in situ detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in seawater is presented. The DMCX‐functionalized silver nanoparticles were produced by the thermal reduction method in xerogel film. The silver colloid blocks were formed in the sol–gel matrix, with a diameter ranging from 50 to 120 nm. DMCX forming the monolayer on the silver nanoparticle surface contributes to the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity due to the aggregation of silver nanoparticles and the preconcentration of PAH molecules within the zone of electromagnetic enhancement. When selected, PAH molecules e.g. pyrene and naphthalene were adsorbed onto the SERS substrate; Raman band positions of PAH were slightly shifted. A calibration procedure reveals that this type of SERS substrate has a limit of detection of 3 × 10−10 mol/l for pyrene and 13 × 10−9 mol/l for naphthalene in artificial seawater. The Raman signal response on a pyrene concentration change in artificial seawater was evaluated using a 671‐nm Raman setup with a flow‐through cell. This type of SERS substrate will be suitable for the in situ trace detection of pollutant chemicals in seawater. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A controllable roughened silver surface with high surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity and high reproducibility has been developed in this study. This silver surface was prepared by silver nucleation in polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) and silver‐enlarged growth. First, the small Ag nuclei were synthesized by NaBH4 in situ reduction of Ag ions on a surface of PEMs. Then the small Ag nuclei formed were effectively enlarged by using a mixture of commercially available reagents named Li Silver . The optical properties and morphologies of the silver substrates have been investigated by ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The UV–vis and AFM results revealed that the small Ag nuclei separately appeared on the PEMs after NaBH4 in situ reduction. The size of the enlarged Ag nanoparticles can be easily controlled with the immersing cycle in Li Silver. 4‐Mercaptopyridine (4‐MPY) and Rhodamine 6G (R6G) have been used as Raman probes to evaluate the properties of the new SERS substrates. It has been found that the enhancement factor of R6G reached ∼109 after treatment in Li Silver. Reproducibility has been investigated using the SERS signal intensity at 1094 cm−1 of 4‐MPY. Signals collected over multiple spots within the same substrate resulted in a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 6.38%, while an RSD of 10.33% was measured in signals collected from different substrates. Changes in the band position of the 462 and the 1111 cm–1 A1 modes of berlinite (AlPO4) with temperature and pressure were determined in situ to 500°C and to 10 GPa using Raman spectroscopy and diamond‐anvil cells. These bands shift in opposite directions with pressure and, likewise, with temperature. At a known temperature, the relative difference of both band positions (Δν)P,T can therefore be used as a pressure gauge that does not require calibration of the spectrometer. At ambient pressure, the observed temperature dependence of this relative difference of the line positions is very close to linear and can be described by (Δν)T, 0.1 MPa (cm–1) = 0.0181 T – 0.46 where 23 ≤ T (°C) ≤ 500. Along the 23°C isotherm to 10 GPa, pressure and relative wavenumber difference (Δν)P, 23°C are related by the equation P (GPa) = 0.00083 [(Δν)P, 23°C]2 – 0.062 (Δν)P, 23°C. Both equations can be combined to determine pressures at higher temperatures under the assumption that the change in (Δν)P,T with pressure is insensitive to temperature. Ethyl carbamate (EC), a potentially toxic compound, is found in alcoholic beverages and fermented foodstuff. A combined experimental and theoretical study of Raman on EC is reported in this work for the first time. The Raman bands observed for EC in solid phase are characteristic for the carbonyl group, C―C, C―H and N―H stretching and deformation vibrations. These spectral features coupled with a pKa study allowed establishing the neutral species of EC present in the aqueous solutions experimentally tested at different concentrations. In addition, by performing a density functional theory study in the gas phase, the calculated geometry, the harmonic vibrational modes, and the Raman scattering activities of EC were found to be in good agreement with our experimental data and helped establish the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) behavior and EC adsorption geometry on the silver surfaces. The Raman peak at 1006 cm−1, assigned to the υs(CC) + ω(CH) modes, the strongest and best reproducible peak in the SERS spectra, was used for a quantitative evaluation of EC. The limit of detection, which corresponds to a signal‐to‐noise ratio equal to 3, was found to be 2 × 10−7 M (17.8 µg l−1). SERS spectra obtained by using hydroxylamine hydrochloride‐reduced silver nanoparticles provide a fast and reproducible qualitative and quantitative determination of EC in aqueous solution. Silver thiolate is a layered compound with a Raman spectrum that is known to change with time, becoming the same as the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum of the parent thiol molecule adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles. On this basis, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐aminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4ABT) compounds were investigated to determine whether certain peaks that are identifiable in the SERS spectrum of 4‐aminobenzenethiol (4‐ABT) but absent in its normal Raman spectrum were also apparent in the Ag salt spectrum. For comparative purposes, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4MABT) were also examined. Raman spectra acquired while spinning the sample were typified by only a1‐type vibrational bands of Ag‐4ABT and Ag‐4MABT, whereas in the static condition, several non‐a1‐type bands were identified. The spectral patterns acquired in the static condition were similar to the intrinsic SERS spectra of 4‐ABT or 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiol (4‐MABT) adsorbed on pure Ag nanoparticles. Notably, the CH3 group vibrational bands were observable for Ag‐4MABT irrespective of the sample rotation. In addition, no decrease in intensity during irradiation with a visible laser was observed for any of the bands, suggesting that no chemical conversion actually took place in either 4‐ABT or 4‐MABT. The preponderance of evidence led to the conclusion that the non‐a1‐type bands observable in the SERS spectra must be associated with the chemical enhancement mechanism acting on the Ag nanoparticles. The chemical enhancement effect was more profound at 514.5 nm than at 632.8 nm, and was more favorable for 4‐ABT than 4‐MABT at both wavelengths. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
