This paper proposes a new higher-efficiency interval method for the response bound estimation of nonlinear dynamic systems, whose uncertain parameters are bounded. This proposed method uses sparse regression and Chebyshev polynomials to help the interval analysis applied on the estimation. It is also a non-intrusive method which needs much fewer evaluations of original nonlinear dynamic systems than the other Chebyshev polynomials based interval methods. By using the proposed method, the response bound estimation of nonlinear dynamic systems can be performed more easily, even if the numerical simulation in nonlinear dynamic systems is costly or the number of uncertain parameters is higher than usual. In our approach, the sparse regression method “elastic net” is adopted to improve the sampling efficiency, but with sufficient accuracy. It alleviates the sample size required in coefficient calculation of the Chebyshev inclusion function in the sampling based methods. Moreover, some mature technologies are adopted to further reduce the sample size and to guarantee the accuracy of the estimation. So that the number of sampling, which solves the certain ordinary differential equations (ODEs), can be reduced significantly in the Chebyshev interval method. Three numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency of proposed interval method. In particular, the last two examples are high dimension uncertain problems, which can further exhibit the ability to reduce the computational cost.  相似文献

To optimize a complicated function constructed from a solution of a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), it is very important to be able to approximate a solution of a system of ODEs very precisely. The precision delivered by the standard Runge-Kutta methods often is insufficient, resulting in a “noisy function” to optimize. We consider an initial-value problem for a system of ordinary differential equations having polynomial right-hand sides with respect to all dependent variables. First we show how to reduce a wide class of ODEs to such polynomial systems. Using the estimates for the Taylor series method, we construct a new “aggregative” Taylor series method and derive guaranteed a priori step-size and error estimates for Runge-Kutta methods of order r. Then we compare the 8,13-Prince-Dormand’s, Taylor series, and aggregative Taylor series methods using seven benchmark systems of equations, including van der Pol’s equations, the “brusselator,” equations of Jacobi’s elliptic functions, and linear and nonlinear stiff systems of equations. The numerical experiments show that the Taylor series method achieves the best precision, while the aggregative Taylor series method achieves the best computational time. The final section of this paper is devoted to a comparative study of the above numerical integration methods for systems of ODEs describing the optimal flight of a spacecraft from the Earth to the Moon. __________ Translated from Sovremennaya Matematika i Ee Prilozheniya (Contemporary Mathematics and Its Applications), Vol. 24, Dynamical Systems and Optimization, 2005.  相似文献

An approximate method based on piecewise linearization is developed for the determination of periodic orbits of nonlinear oscillators. The method is based on Taylor series expansions, provides piecewise analytical solutions in three-point intervals which are continuous everywhere and explicit three-point difference equations which are P-stable and have an infinite interval of periodicity. It is shown that the method presented here reduces to the well-known Störmer technique, is second-order accurate, and yields, upon applying Taylor series expansion and a Padé approximation, another P-stable technique whenever the Jacobian is different from zero. The method is generalized for single degree-of-freedom problems that contain the velocity, and (approximate) analytical solutions are presented. Finally, by introducing the inverse of a vector and the vector product and quotient, and using Taylor series expansions and a Padé approximation, the method has been generalized to multiple degree-of-freedom problems and results in explicit three-point finite difference equations which only involve vector multiplications.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new design optimization framework for suspension systems considering the kinematic characteristics, such as the camber angle, caster angle, kingpin inclination angle, and toe angle in the presence of uncertainties. The coordinates of rear inner hardpoints of upper control arm and lower control arm of double wishbone suspension are considered as the design variables, as well as the uncertain parameters. In this way, the actual values of the design variables will vary surrounding their nominal values. The variations result in uncertainties that are described as interval variables with lower and upper bounds. The kinematic model of the suspension is developed in software ADAMS. A high-order response surface model using the zeros of Chebyshev polynomials as sampling points is established, termed as Chebyshev metamodel, to approximate the kinematic model. The Chebyshev meta-model is expected to provide higher approximation accuracy. Interval uncertain optimization problems usually involve a nested computationally expensive double-loop optimization process, in which the inner loop optimization is to calculate the bounds of the interval design functions, while the outer loop is to search the optimum for the deterministic optimization problem. To reduce the computational cost, the interval arithmetic is introduced in the inner loop to improve computational efficiency without compromising numerical accuracy. The numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed design method.  相似文献

We investigate solution techniques for numerical constraint-satisfaction problems and validated numerical set integration methods for computing reachable sets of nonlinear hybrid dynamical systems in the presence of uncertainty. To use interval simulation tools with higher-dimensional hybrid systems, while assuming large domains for either initial continuous state or model parameter vectors, we need to solve the problem of flow/sets intersection in an effective and reliable way. The main idea developed in this paper is first to derive an analytical expression for the boundaries of continuous flows, using interval Taylor methods and techniques for controlling the wrapping effect. Then, the event detection and localization problems underlying flow/sets intersection are expressed as numerical constraint-satisfaction problems, which are solved using global search methods based on branch-and-prune algorithms, interval analysis and consistency techniques. The method is illustrated with hybrid systems with uncertain nonlinear continuous dynamics and nonlinear invariants and guards.  相似文献

In this paper, interval arithmetic simulation techniques are presented to determine guaranteed enclosures of the state variables of both continuous and discrete-time systems with uncertain but bounded parameters. In nonlinear uncertain systems axis-parallel interval boxes are mapped to complexly shaped regions in the state space that represent sets of possible combinations of state variables. The approximation of each region by a single interval box causes an accumulating overestimation from time-step to time-step, usually called the wrapping effect. The algorithm presented in this paper minimizes the wrapping effect by applying consistency techniques based on interval Newton methods. Subintervals that do not belong to the exact solution at a given time can be eliminated in order to give a tighter but still conservative approximation of the exact solution. Additionally, efficient splitting and merging strategies are employed to limit the number of subintervals. The proposed algorithm is applied to the simulation of an activated sludge process in biological wastewater treatment.  相似文献

Confident numerical method is a crucial issue in the field of structural health monitoring. This paper focuses on uncertainty propagation in nonlinear structural systems with non-deterministic parameters. An interval-based iteration method is proposed on the basis of interval analysis and Taylor series expansion. The proposed method aims to improve the bounds of static response calculated by the point-based iteration method. In the proposed method, the iterative interval of static response is updated by revising the lower and upper bounds, respectively, which is the essential difference in comparison with the previous point-based iteration method. In this paper, interval parameters are employed to quantify the non-deterministic parameters instead of random parameters in the case of insufficient sample data. Iterative scheme is established based on the first-order Taylor series expansion. For the implementation of interval-based iteration method, a general procedure is formulated. Moreover, the important source of the limitation of point-based iteration method is revealed profoundly, and the good performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by three numerical comparisons.  相似文献

Simulation techniques are commonly used to analyze the influence of uncertainties of initial conditions and systemparameters on the trajectories of the state variables of dynamical systems. In this context, interval arithmetic approaches are of interest. They are capable of determining guaranteed bounds of all reachable states if worst-case bounds of the above-mentioned uncertainties are known. Furthermore, interval algorithms ensure the correctness of numerical results in spite of rounding errors which inevitably arise if floating point operations are carried out on a computer. However, naive implementations of interval algorithms often lead to overestimation, i.e., too conservative enclosures which can make the results meaningless. In this contribution, we summarize the basic routines of ValEncIA-IVP which computes interval enclosures of all reachable states of dynamical systems described by ordinary differential equations ODEs. ValEncIA-IVP , VAL idation of state ENC losures using I nterval A rithmetic for I nitial V alue P roblems, can be applied to the simulation of systems with both uncertain parameters and uncertain initial conditions. Advanced techniques for reduction of overestimation are demonstrated for a simplified catalytic reactor. Afirst approach to using VanEncIA-IVP for the simulation of sets of differential algebraic equations is outlined. Finally, an outlook on the integration of ValEncIA-IVP in an interval arithmetic framework for computation of optimal and robust control strategies for continuous-time processes is given. We use four orthogonal polynomial series, Legendre, Chebyshev, Hermite and Laguerre series, to approximate the non-homogeneous term for the precise time integration and incorporate them with the dimensional expanding technique. They are applied to various structures subjected to transient dynamic loading together with Fourier and Taylor approximation proposed in previous works. Numerical examples show that all six methods are efficient and have reasonable precision. In particular, Legendre approximation has much higher precision and better convergence; Chebyshev approximation is also good, but only slightly inferior to Legendre approximation. The other four approximation methods usually produce results with errors hundreds of thousands of times larger. Hermite and Laguerre approximation may be useful for some special non-homogeneous terms, but do not work sufficiently well in our numerical examples. Other contributions of this paper include, a Dynamic Programming scheme for computing series coefficients, a general formula to find the assistant matrix for any polynomial series.  相似文献

Computing the reachable set of hybrid dynamical systems in a reliable and verified way is an important step when addressing verification or synthesis tasks. This issue is still challenging for uncertain nonlinear hybrid dynamical systems. We show in this paper how to combine a method for computing continuous transitions via interval Taylor methods and a method for computing the geometrical intersection of a flowpipe with guard sets, to build an interval method for reachability computation that can be used with truly nonlinear hybrid systems. Our method for flowpipe guard set intersection has two variants. The first one relies on interval constraint propagation for solving a constraint satisfaction problem and applies in the general case. The second one computes the intersection of a zonotope and a hyperplane and applies only when the guard sets are linear. The performance of our method is illustrated on examples involving typical hybrid systems.  相似文献

This paper deals with feedforward neural networks containing a single hidden layer and with sigmoid/logistic activation function. Training such a network is equivalent to implementing nonlinear regression using a flexible functional form, but the functional form in question is not easy to deal with. The Chebyshev polynomials are suggested as a way forward, providing an approximation to the network which is superior to Taylor series expansions. Application of these approximations suggests that the network is liable to a ‘naturally occurring’ parameter redundancy, which has implications for the training process as well as certain statistical implications. On the other hand, parameter redundancy does not appear to damage the fundamental property of universal approximation.   相似文献

We describe an expansion of Legendre polynomials, analogous to the Taylor expansion, for approximating arbitrary functions. We show that the polynomial coefficients in the Legendre expansion, and thus, the whole series, converge to zero much more rapidly compared to those in the Taylor expansion of the same order. Furthermore, using numerical analysis with a sixth-order polynomial expansion, we demonstrate that the Legendre polynomial approximation yields an error at least an order of magnitude smaller than that of the analogous Taylor series approximation. This strongly suggests that Legendre expansions, instead of Taylor expansions, should be used when global accuracy is important.  相似文献

We introduce the concept of fast wavelet‐Taylor Galerkin methods for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. In wavelet‐Taylor Galerkin method discretization in time is performed before the wavelet based spatial approximation by introducing accurate generalizations of the standard Euler, θ and leap‐frog time‐stepping scheme with the help of Taylor series expansions in the time step. We will present two different time‐accurate wavelet schemes to solve the PDEs. First, numerical schemes taking advantage of the wavelet bases capabilities to compress the operators and sparse representation of functions which are smooth, except for in localized regions, up to any given accuracy are presented. Here numerical experiments deal with advection equation with the spiky solution in one dimension, two dimensions, and nonlinear equation with a shock in solution in two dimensions. Second, our schemes deal with more regular class of problems where wavelets are not efficient procedure for data compression but we can use the good approximation properties of wavelet. Here time‐accurate schemes lead to consistent mass matrix in an explicit time stepping, which can be solved by approximate factorization techniques. Numerical experiment deals with more regular class of problems like heat equation as well as coupled linear system in two dimensions. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work deals with the efficient numerical solution of a class of nonlinear time-dependent reaction-diffusion equations. Via the method of lines approach, we first perform the spatial discretization of the original problem by applying a mimetic finite difference scheme. The system of ordinary differential equations arising from that process is then integrated in time with a linearly implicit fractional step method. For that purpose, we locally decompose the discrete nonlinear diffusion operator using suitable Taylor expansions and a domain decomposition splitting technique. The totally discrete scheme considers implicit time integrations for the linear terms while explicitly handling the nonlinear ones. As a result, the original problem is reduced to the solution of several linear systems per time step which can be trivially decomposed into a set of uncoupled parallelizable linear subsystems. The convergence of the proposed methods is illustrated by numerical experiments.  相似文献

In this paper we present a new method of confidence interval identification for Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy models in the case of the data with regionally changeable variance. The method combines a fuzzy identification methodology with some ideas from applied statistics. The idea is to find, on a finite set of measured data, the confidence interval defined by the lower and upper bounds. The confidence interval which defines the band that contains the measurement values with certain confidence. The method can be used when describing a family of uncertain nonlinear functions or when the systems with uncertain physical parameters are observed. In our example the proposed method is applied to model the pH-titration curve.  相似文献

Traditionally, explicit numerical algorithms have not been used with stiff ordinary differential equations (ODEs) due to their stability. Implicit schemes are usually very expensive when used to solve systems of ODEs with very large dimension. Stabilized Runge‐Kutta methods (also called Runge–Kutta–Chebyshev methods) were proposed to try to avoid these difficulties. The Runge–Kutta methods are explicit methods with extended stability domains, usually along the negative real axis. They can easily be applied to large problem classes with low memory demand, they do not require algebra routines or the solution of large and complicated systems of nonlinear equations, and they are especially suited for discretizations using the method of lines of two and three dimensional parabolic partial differential equations. In Martín‐Vaquero and Janssen [Comput Phys Commun 180 (2009), 1802–1810], we showed that previous codes based on stabilized Runge–Kutta algorithms have some difficulties in solving problems with very large eigenvalues and we derived a new code, SERK2, based on sixth‐order polynomials. Here, we develop a new method based on second‐order polynomials with up to 250 stages and good stability properties. These methods are efficient numerical integrators of very stiff ODEs. Numerical experiments with both smooth and nonsmooth data support the efficiency and accuracy of the new algorithms when compared to other well‐known second‐order methods such as RKC and ROCK2. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a new meshless method, Chebyshev tau matrix method (CTMM) is researched. The matrix representations for the differentiation and multiplication of Chebyshev expansions make CTMM easy to implement. Problems with curve boundary can be efficiently treated by CTMM. Poisson-type problems, including standard Poisson problems, Helmholtz problems, problems with variable coefficients and nonlinear problems are computed. Some numerical experiments are implemented to verify the efficiency of CTMM, and numerical results are in good agreement with the analytical one. It appears that CTMM is very effective for Poisson-type problems in irregular domains.  相似文献

We introduce a simple matrix formalism for Taylor series and generalized Laurent series that can be used for implementing the Taylor method for nonlinear ODEs and singularity analysis of differential equations. Advantages of this approach over conventional techniques are shown on model examples. Surprisingly, the same formalism can be used for proving C-integrability of a 3D model in nonlinear elasticity. An alternative proof is obtained by using similarity between the model in nonlinear elasticity and the classic Pohlmeier-Lund-Regge model from high energy physics. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We describe a strategy for Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis of nonlinear, non-Gaussian state-space models involving batch analysis for inference on dynamic, latent state variables and fixed model parameters. The key innovation is a Metropolis–Hastings method for the time series of state variables based on sequential approximation of filtering and smoothing densities using normal mixtures. These mixtures are propagated through the nonlinearities using an accurate, local mixture approximation method, and we use a regenerating procedure to deal with potential degeneracy of mixture components. This provides accurate, direct approximations to sequential filtering and retrospective smoothing distributions, and hence a useful construction of global Metropolis proposal distributions for simulation of posteriors for the set of states. This analysis is embedded within a Gibbs sampler to include uncertain fixed parameters. We give an example motivated by an application in systems biology. Supplemental materials provide an example based on a stochastic volatility model as well as MATLAB code.  相似文献

A new approximation method is proposed for the numerical evaluation of the nonlinear singular integrodifferential equations defined in Banach spaces. The collocation approximation method is therefore applied to the numerical solution of such type of nonlinear equations, by using a system of Chebyshev functions.Through the application of the collocation method is investigated the existence of solutions of the system of non-linear equations used for the approximation of the nonlinear singular integrodifferential equations, which are defined in a complete normed space, i.e., a Banach space.  相似文献
