Summary LetX 1,X 2, ...,X r ber independentn-dimensional random vectors each with a non-singular normal distribution with zero means and positive partial correlations. Suppose thatX i =(X i1 , ...,X in ) and the random vectorY=(Y 1, ...,Y n ), their maximum, is defined byY j =max{X ij :1ir}. LetW be another randomn-vector which is the maximum of another such family of independentn-vectorsZ 1,Z 2, ...,Z s . It is then shown in this paper that the distributions of theZ i 's are simply a rearrangement of those of theZ j 's (and of course,r=s), whenever their maximaY andW have the same distribution. This problem was initially studied by Anderson and Ghurye [2] in the univariate and bivariate cases and motivated by a supply-demand problem in econometrics.  相似文献

For a sample of iid observations {(XiYi)} from an absolutely continuous distribution, the multivariate dependence of concomitants Y[]=(Y[1]Y[2], …, Y[n]) and the stochastic order of subsets of Y[] are studied. If (XY) is totally positive dependent of order 2, Y[] is multivariate totally positive dependent of order 2. If the conditional hazard rate function of Y given X, hYX(yx), is decreasing in x for every y, Y[] is multivariate right corner set increasing. And if Y is stochastically increasing in X, the concomitants are increasing in multivariate stochastic order.  相似文献

Let (X1) and (Y2) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X′ and Y′, respectively, L(X,Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K(X,Y) be the space of all compact operators of L(X,Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K(X,Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K(X,Y); that is, if the sequence space λ has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each λ-multiplier WOT-convergent series ∑iTi in K(X,Y) must be λ-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T :(X1)→(λβ,σ(λβ,λ)) is compact. It follows from this result that the converse of Kalton's Orlicz–Pettis theorem is also true.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a random vector such that X is d-dimensional, Y is real valued, and θ(X) is the conditional αth quantile of Y given X, where α is a fixed number such that 0 < α < 1. Assume that θ is a smooth function with order of smoothness p > 0, and set r = (pm)/(2p + d), where m is a nonnegative integer smaller than p. Let T(θ) denote a derivative of θ of order m. It is proved that there exists estimate of T(θ), based on a set of i.i.d. observations (X1, Y1), …, (Xn, Yn), that achieves the optimal nonparametric rate of convergence nr in Lq-norms (1 ≤ q < ∞) restricted to compacts under appropriate regularity conditions. Further, it has been shown that there exists estimate of T(θ) that achieves the optimal rate (n/log n)r in L-norm restricted to compacts.  相似文献

Bivariate Tensor-Product B-Splines in a Partly Linear Model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In some applications, the mean or median response is linearly related to some variables but the relation to additional variables are not easily parameterized. Partly linear models arise naturally in such circumstances. Suppose that a random sample {(TiXiYi),i=1, 2, …, n} is modeled byYi=XTiβ0+g0(Ti)+errori, whereYiis a real-valued response,XiRpandTiranges over a unit square, andg0is an unknown function with a certain degree of smoothness. We make use of bivariate tensor-product B-splines as an approximation of the functiong0and consider M-type regression splines by minimization of ∑ni=1 ρ(YiXTiβgn(Ti)) for some convex functionρ. Mean, median and quantile regressions are included in this class. We show under appropriate conditions that the parameter estimate ofβachieves its information bound asymptotically and the function estimate ofg0attains the optimal rate of convergence in mean squared error. Our asymptotic results generalize directly to higher dimensions (for the variableT) provided that the functiong0is sufficiently smooth. Such smoothness conditions have often been assumed in the literature, but they impose practical limitations for the application of multivariate tensor product splines in function estimation. We also discuss the implementation of B-spline approximations based on commonly used knot selection criteria together with a simulation study of both mean and median regressions of partly linear models.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) = (RU 1, RU 2) be a given bivariate scale mixture random vector, with R > 0 independent of the bivariate random vector (U 1, U 2). In this paper we derive exact asymptotic expansions of the joint survivor probability of (X, Y) assuming that R has distribution function in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction, and (U 1, U 2) has a specific local asymptotic behaviour around some absorbing point. We apply our results to investigate the asymptotic behaviour of joint conditional excess distribution and the asymptotic independence for two models of bivariate scale mixture distributions.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be an d × -valued random vector and let (X1, Y1),…,(XN, YN) be a random sample drawn from its distribution. Divide the data sequence into disjoint blocks of length l1, …, ln, find the nearest neighbor to X in each block and call the corresponding couple (Xi*, Yi*). It is shown that the estimate mn(X) = Σi = 1n wniYi*i = 1n wni of m(X) = E{Y|X} satisfies E{|mn(X) − m(X)|p} 0 (p ≥ 1) whenever E{|Y|p} < ∞, ln ∞, and the triangular array of positive weights {wni} satisfies supinwnii = 1n wni 0. No other restrictions are put on the distribution of (X, Y). Also, some distribution-free results for the strong convergence of E{|mn(X) − m(X)|p|X1, Y1,…, XN, YN} to zero are included. Finally, an application to the discrimination problem is considered, and a discrimination rule is exhibited and shown to be strongly Bayes risk consistent for all distributions.  相似文献

Let X1,…, Xn be i.i.d. random variables symmetric about zero. Let Ri(t) be the rank of |Xitn−1/2| among |X1tn−1/2|,…, |Xntn−1/2| and Tn(t) = Σi = 1nφ((n + 1)−1Ri(t))sign(Xitn−1/2). We show that there exists a sequence of random variables Vn such that sup0 ≤ t ≤ 1 |Tn(t) − Tn(0) − tVn| → 0 in probability, as n → ∞. Vn is asymptotically normal.  相似文献

Treated in this paper is the problem of estimating with squared error loss the generalized variance | Σ | from a Wishart random matrix S: p × p Wp(n, Σ) and an independent normal random matrix X: p × k N(ξ, Σ Ik) with ξ(p × k) unknown. Denote the columns of X by X(1) ,…, X(k) and set ψ(0)(S, X) = {(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S |, ψ(i)(X, X) = min[ψ(i−1)(S, X), {(np + i + 2)!/(n + i + 2)!} | S + X(1) X(1) + + X(i) X(i) |] and Ψ(i)(S, X) = min[ψ(0)(S, X), {(np + i + 2)!/(n + i + 2)!}| S + X(1) X(1) + + X(i) X(i) |], i = 1,…,k. Our result is that the minimax, best affine equivariant estimator ψ(0)(S, X) is dominated by each of Ψ(i)(S, X), i = 1,…,k and for every i, ψ(i)(S, X) is better than ψ(i−1)(S, X). In particular, ψ(k)(S, X) = min[{(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S |, {(np + 2)!/(n + 2)!} | S + X(1)X(1)|,…,| {(np + k + 2)!/(n + k + 2)!} | S + X(1)X(1) + + X(k)X(k)|] dominates all other ψ's. It is obtained by considering a multivariate extension of Stein's result (Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 16, 155–160 (1964)) on the estimation of the normal variance.  相似文献

Summary For independent identically distributed bivariate random vectors (X 1, Y 1), (X 2, Y 2), ... and for large t the distribution of X 1 +...+ X N(t) is approximated by asymptotic expansions. Here N(t) is the counting process with lifetimes Y 1, Y 2,.... Similar expansions are derived for multivariate X 1. Furthermore, local asymptotic expansions are valid for the distribution of f(X 1)+ ...+ f(X N ) when N is large and nonrandom, and X i , i=1, 2,..., is a discrete strongly mixing Markov chain.  相似文献

Summary Let (X, Y) be bivariate normally distributed with means (μ 1,μ 2), variances (σ 1 2 ,σ 2 2 ) and correlation betweenX andY equal to ρ. Let (X i ,Y i ) be independent observations on (X,Y) fori=1,2,...,n. Because of practical considerations onlyZ i =min (X i ,Y i) is observed. In this paper, as in certain routine applications, assuming the means and the variances to be known in advance, an unbiased consistent estimator of the unknown distribution parameter ρ is proposed. A comparison between the traditional maximum likelihood estimator and the unbiased estimator is made. Finally, the problem is extended to multivariate normal populations with common mean, common variance and common non-negative correlation coefficient.  相似文献

Let X1, X2, …, Xn be random vectors that take values in a compact set in Rd, d ≥ 1. Let Y1, Y2, …, Yn be random variables (“the responses”) which conditionally on X1 = x1, …, Xn = xn are independent with densities f(y | xi, θ(xi)), i = 1, …, n. Assuming that θ lives in a sup-norm compact space Θq,d of real valued functions, an optimal L1-consistent estimator of θ is constructed via empirical measures. The rate of convergence of the estimator to the true parameter θ depends on Kolmogorov's entropy of Θq,d.  相似文献

Let F be a Banach space with a sufficiently smooth norm. Let (Xi)in be a sequence in LF2, and T be a Gaussian random variable T which has the same covariance as X = ΣinXi. Assume that there exists a constant G such that for s, δ≥0, we have P(sTs+δ)Gδ. (*) We then give explicit bounds of Δ(X) = supi|P(|X|≤t)−P(|T|≤t)| in terms of truncated moments of the variables Xi. These bounds hold under rather mild weak dependence conditions of the variables. We also construct a Gaussian random variable that violates (*).  相似文献

In this paper, which is a continuation of Timofte (J. Approx. Theory 119 (2002) 291–299, we give special uniform approximations of functions from CXY(T×S) and C(T×S,XY) by elements of the tensor products CX(T)CY(S), respectively C0(T,X)C0(S,Y), for topological spaces T,S and Γ-locally convex spaces X,Y (all four being Hausdorff).  相似文献

Let (X1Y1), (X2Y2), …, be two-dimensional random vectors which are independent and distributed as (XY). For 0<p<1, letξ(px) be the conditionalpth quantile ofYgivenX=x; that is,ξ(px)=inf{y : P(YyX=x)p}. We consider the problem of estimatingξ(px) from the data (X1Y1), (X2Y2), …, (XnYn). In this paper, a new kernel estimator ofξ(px) is proposed. The asymptotic normality and a law of the iterated logarithm are obtained.  相似文献

Let F(s, t) = P(X > s, Y > t) be the bivariate survival function which is subject to random censoring. Let be the bivariate product limit estimator (PL-estimator) by Campbell and Földes (1982, Proceedings International Colloquium on Non-parametric Statistical Inference, Budapest 1980, North-Holland, Amsterdam). In this paper, it was shown that
, where {ζi(s, t)} is i.i.d. mean zero process and Rn(s, t) is of the order O((n−1log n)3/4) a.s. uniformly on compact sets. Weak convergence of the process {n−1 Σi = 1n ζi(s, t)} to a two-dimensional-time Gaussian process is shown. The covariance structure of the limiting Gaussian process is also given. Corresponding results are also derived for the bootstrap estimators. The result can be extended to the multivariate cases and are extensions of the univariate case of Lo and Singh (1986, Probab. Theory Relat. Fields, 71, 455–465). The estimator is also modified so that the modified estimator is closer to the true survival function than in supnorm.  相似文献

The comedianCOM(X, Y) of random variablesX,Yis a median based robust alternative to the covariance ofXofY. For the bivariate normal case it is known thatCOM(X, Y), standardized by the median absolute deviations ofXandY, is a symmetric, strictly increasing and continuous function of the correlation coefficientρwith range [−1, 1] and can therefore serve as a robust alternative toρ. We show that this result, which is not true in general, extends to elliptical distributions even in the case where moments ofX,Ydo not exist.  相似文献

The necessary and sufficient conditions of outer conjugation for automorphisms from the normalizer of approximated III type groups are found. Let T be an automorphism of a Lebesgue space (X, μ) of the III0 type, [T] the full group generated by T, N[T] its normalizer, {Wt(T)} the flow associated with T and α → mod α the homomorphism from N[T] to C{W} the centralizer of the associated flow. The following results are obtained: such that mod ga = α; automorphisms α1, and α2 from N[T] are outer conjugate if and only if p1) = p2), mod α1 = γ mod α2γ−1, where γ C{W} and p(·) is the outer period; the canonical form of the elements from N[T] is found. The case is also considered where T is types IIIλ (0 < λ < 1) and III1.  相似文献

Let X1, …, Xn be independent random variables and define for each finite subset I {1, …, n} the σ-algebra = σ{Xi : i ε I}. In this paper -measurable random variables WI are considered, subject to the centering condition E(WI ) = 0 a.s. unless I J. A central limit theorem is proven for d-homogeneous sums W(n) = ΣI = dWI, with var W(n) = 1, where the summation extends over all (nd) subsets I {1, …, n} of size I = d, under the condition that the normed fourth moment of W(n) tends to 3. Under some extra conditions the condition is also necessary.  相似文献
