The aim of this paper is to present some results about spin structures on flat manifolds. We prove that any finite group can be the holonomy group of a flat spin manifold. Moreover, we shall give some methods of constructing spin structures related to the holonomy representation.  相似文献

We study spin structures on flat Riemannian manifolds. The main result is a necessary and sufficient condition for a flat manifold with cyclic holonomy to have a spin structure.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the holonomy structure of the most accessible and demonstrative 2-dimensional Finsler surfaces, the Randers surfaces. Randers metrics can be considered as the solutions of the Zermelo navigation problem. We give the classification of the holonomy groups of locally projectively flat Randers two-manifolds of constant curvature. In particular, we prove that the holonomy group of a simply connected non-Riemannian projectively flat Finsler two-manifold of constant non-zero flag curvature is maximal and isomorphic to the orientation preserving diffeomorphism group of the circle.  相似文献

We study the eta invariants of compact flat spin manifolds of dimension n with holonomy group \mathbbZp{\mathbb{Z}_p}, where p is an odd prime. We find explicit expressions for the twisted and relative eta invariants and show that the reduced eta invariant is always an integer, except in a single case, when p = n = 3. We use the expressions obtained to show that any such manifold is trivial in the appropriate reduced equivariant spin bordism group.  相似文献

We show that a compact flat manifold has the structure of a real affine variety. Using generators of the affine algebra we constructed embeddings with flat induced metric of all compact flat manifolds with cyclic holonomy group of order 2.  相似文献

Flat pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with a nilpotent transitive group of isometries are shown to be complete. Also flat pseudo-Riemannian homogeneous manifolds with non-trivial holonomy are shown to contain a complete geodesic.  相似文献

Generic distributions on 5- and 6-manifolds give rise to conformal structures that were discovered by P. Nurowski resp. R. Bryant. We describe both as Fefferman-type constructions and show that for orientable distributions one obtains conformal spin structures. The resulting conformal spin geometries are then characterized by their conformal holonomy and equivalently by the existence of a twistor spinor which satisfies a genericity condition. Moreover, we show that given such a twistor spinor we can decompose a conformal Killing field of the structure. We obtain explicit formulas relating conformal Killing fields, almost Einstein structures and twistor spinors.  相似文献

We examine the possibilities of the full holonomy groups of locally irreducible but not necessarily complete Riemannian spin manifolds admitting a non-trivial parallel spinor and discuss some applications of this classification.partially supported by NSERC Grant No. OPG0009421  相似文献

Affine structures on surfaces are constructed by gluing polygons. The geometry of the affine surface depends on the shape of the polygon(s) and the particular gluing transformations used. The affine version of the Poincaré fundamental polygon theorem expresses the fundamental group and holonomy of the surface in terms of the gluing data. The theorem may be used to construct all complete affine structures on the 2-torus. The space of inequivalent holonomy representations of such structures is homeomorphic to R2.  相似文献

Inspired by the recent work [HHM03], we prove two stability results for compact Riemannian manifolds with nonzero parallel spinors. Our first result says that Ricci flat metrics which also admit nonzero parallel spinors are stable (in the direction of changes in conformal structures) as the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional. Our second result, which is a local version of the first one, shows that any metric of positive scalar curvature cannot lie too close to a metric with nonzero parallel spinor. We also prove a rigidity result for special holonomy metrics. In the case of SU(m) holonomy, the rigidity result implies that scalar flat deformations of Calabi-Yau metric must be Calabi-Yau. Finally we explore the connection with a positive mass theorem of [D03], which presents another approach to proving these stability and rigidity results. In this paper, we investigate complete curvature-adapted submanifolds with maximal flat section and trivial normal holonomy group in symmetric spaces of compact type or non-compact type under a certain condition, and derive the constancy of the principal curvatures of such submanifolds. As a result, we derive that such submanifolds are isoparametric.  相似文献

Using the twistor theory on quaternionic Kaehler manifolds and some recent results on Blaschke manifolds and compact manifolds whose holonomy group is Spin (7), we prove that a Blaschke manifold of nonnegative scalar curvature whose holonomy group is exceptional is isometric to a projective space.  相似文献

Let M be a complete m-dimensional Riemannian manifold with cyclic holonomy group, let X be a closed flat manifold homotopy equivalent to M, and let LX be a nontrivial line bundle over X whose total space is a flat manifold with cyclic holonomy group. We prove that either M is diffeomorphic to X×Rm-dimX or M is diffeomorphic to L×Rm-dimX−1.  相似文献

We consider the relationship between hyperbolic cone-manifold structures on surfaces, and algebraic representations of the fundamental group into a group of isometries. A hyperbolic cone-manifold structure on a surface, with all interior cone angles being integer multiples of 2??, determines a holonomy representation of the fundamental group. We ask, conversely, when a representation of the fundamental group is the holonomy of a hyperbolic cone-manifold structure. In this paper we build upon previous work with punctured tori to prove results for higher genus surfaces. Our techniques construct fundamental domains for hyperbolic cone-manifold structures, from the geometry of a representation. Central to these techniques are the Euler class of a representation, the group ${\widetilde{PSL_{2}\mathbb{R}}}$ , the twist of hyperbolic isometries, and character varieties. We consider the action of the outer automorphism and related groups on the character variety, which is measure-preserving with respect to a natural measure derived from its symplectic structure, and ergodic in certain regions. Under various hypotheses, we almost surely or surely obtain a hyperbolic cone-manifold structure with prescribed holonomy.  相似文献

We consider the relationship between hyperbolic cone-manifold structures on surfaces, and algebraic representations of the fundamental group into a group of isometries. A hyperbolic cone-manifold structure on a surface, with all interior cone angles being integer multiples of 2π, determines a holonomy representation of the fundamental group. We ask, conversely, when a representation of the fundamental group is the holonomy of a hyperbolic cone-manifold structure. In this paper we prove results for the punctured torus; in the sequel, for higher genus surfaces. We show that a representation of the fundamental group of a punctured torus is a holonomy representation of a hyperbolic cone-manifold structure with no interior cone points and a single corner point if and only if it is not virtually abelian. We construct a pentagonal fundamental domain for hyperbolic structures, from the geometry of a representation. Our techniques involve the universal covering group [(PSL2\mathbb R)\tilde]{\widetilde{{\it PSL}_2{\mathbb R}}} of the group of orientation-preserving isometries of \mathbb H2{{\mathbb H}^2} and Markoff moves arising from the action of the mapping class group on the character variety.  相似文献

The classification of restricted holonomy groups of \(n\) -dimensional Lorentzian manifolds was obtained about ten years ago. However, up to now, not much is known about the structure of the full holonomy group. In this paper we study the full holonomy group of Lorentzian manifolds with a parallel null line bundle. Based on the classification of the restricted holonomy groups of such manifolds, we prove several structure results about the full holonomy. We establish a construction method for manifolds with disconnected holonomy starting from a Riemannian manifold and a properly discontinuous group of isometries. This leads to a variety of examples, most of them being quotients of pp-waves with disconnected holonomy, including a non-flat Lorentzian manifold with infinitely generated holonomy group. Furthermore, we classify the full holonomy groups of solvable Lorentzian symmetric spaces and of Lorentzian manifolds with a parallel null spinor. Finally, we construct examples of globally hyperbolic manifolds with complete spacelike Cauchy hypersurfaces, disconnected full holonomy and a parallel spinor.  相似文献

The existence of a recurrent spinor field on a pseudo-Riemannian spin manifold (M,g) is closely related to the existence of a parallel 1-dimensional complex subbundle of the spinor bundle of (M,g). We characterize the following simply connected pseudo-Riemannian manifolds that admit these subbundles in terms of their holonomy algebras: Riemannian manifolds, Lorentzian manifolds, pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with irreducible holonomy algebras, and pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of neutral signature admitting two complementary parallel isotropic distributions.  相似文献

Let E Aff(Γ,G, m) be the set of affine equivalence classes of m-dimensional complete flat manifolds with a fixed fundamental group Γ and a fixed holonomy group G. Let n be the dimension of a closed flat manifold whose fundamental group is isomorphic to Γ. We describe E Aff(Γ,G, m) in terms of equivalence classes of pairs (ε, ρ), consisting of epimorphisms of Γ onto G and representations of G in ℝ m-n . As an application we give some estimates of card E Aff(Γ,G, m).  相似文献
