A two-grid discretization scheme for eigenvalue problems   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
A two-grid discretization scheme is proposed for solving eigenvalue problems, including both partial differential equations and integral equations. With this new scheme, the solution of an eigenvalue problem on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of an eigenvalue problem on a much coarser grid, and the solution of a linear algebraic system on the fine grid and the resulting solution still maintains an asymptotically optimal accuracy.

In this paper, we present a two-grid discretization scheme for semilinear parabolic integro-differential equations by $H^{1}$-Galerkin mixed finite element methods. We use the lowest order Raviart-Thomas mixed finite elements and continuous linear finite element for spatial discretization, and backward Euler scheme for temporal discretization. Firstly, a priori error estimates and some superclose properties are derived. Secondly, a two-grid scheme is presented and its convergence is discussed. In the proposed two-grid scheme, the solution of the nonlinear system on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of the nonlinear system on a much coarser grid and the solution of two symmetric and positive definite linear algebraic equations on the fine grid and the resulting solution still maintains optimal accuracy. Finally, a numerical experiment is implemented to verify theoretical results of the proposed scheme. The theoretical and numerical results show that the two-grid method achieves the same convergence property as the one-grid method with the choice $h=H^2$.  相似文献

In the paper, a two-grid discretization scheme is discussed for the Steklov eigenvalue problem. With the scheme, the solution of the Steklov eigenvalue problem on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of the Steklov eigenvalue problem on a much coarser grid and the solution of a linear algebraic system on the fine grid. Using spectral approximation theory, it is shown theoretically that the two-scale scheme is efficient and the approximate solution obtained by the scheme maintains the asymptotically optimal accuracy. Finally, numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the considered theory.  相似文献

In this work, two-grid characteristic finite volume schemes for the nonlinear parabolic problem are considered. In our algorithms, the diffusion term is discretized by the finite volume method, while the temporal differentiation and advection terms are treated by the characteristic scheme. Under some conditions about the coefficients and exact solution, optimal error estimates for the numerical solution are obtained. Furthermore, the two- grid characteristic finite volume methods involve solving a nonlinear equation on coarse mesh with mesh size H, a large linear problem for the Oseen two-grid characteristic finite volume method on a fine mesh with mesh size h = O(H2) or a large linear problem for the Newton two-grid characteristic finite volume method on a fine mesh with mesh size h = 0(I log hll/2H3). These methods we studied provide the same convergence rate as that of the characteristic finite volume method, which involves solving one large nonlinear problem on a fine mesh with mesh size h. Some numerical results are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed methods.  相似文献

This paper provides an accelerated two-grid stabilized mixed finite element scheme for the Stokes eigenvalue problem based on the pressure projection. With the scheme, the solution of the Stokes eigenvalue problem on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of the Stokes eigenvalue problem on a much coarser grid and the solution of a linear algebraic system on the fine grid. By solving a slightly different linear problem on the fine grid, the new algorithm significantly improves the theoretical error estimate which allows a much coarser mesh to achieve the same asymptotic convergence rate. Finally, numerical experiments are shown to verify the high efficiency and the theoretical results of the new method.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the Crank-Nicolson Galerkin finite element method and construct a two-grid algorithm for the general two-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Firstly, we analyze the superconvergence error estimate of the finite element solution in $H^1$ norm by use of the elliptic projection operator. Secondly, we propose a fully discrete two-grid finite element algorithm with Crank-Nicolson scheme in time. With this method, the solution of the Schrödinger equation on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of original problem on a much coarser grid together with the solution of two Poisson equations on the fine grid. Finally, we also derive error estimates of the two-grid finite element solution with the exact solution in $H^1$ norm. It is shown that the solution of two-grid algorithm can achieve asymptotically optimal accuracy as long as mesh sizes satisfy $H = \mathcal{O}(h^{\frac{1}{2}})$.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to analyze an efficient method for the solution of the nonlinear system resulting from the discretization of the elliptic Monge-Ampère equation by a $C^0$ interior penalty method with Lagrange finite elements. We consider the two-grid method for nonlinear equations which consists in solving the discrete nonlinear system on a coarse mesh and using that solution as initial guess for one iteration of Newton's method on a finer mesh. Thus both steps are inexpensive. We give quasi-optimal $W^{1,\infty}$ error estimates for the discretization and estimate the difference between the interior penalty solution and the two-grid numerical solution. Numerical experiments confirm the computational efficiency of the approach compared to Newton's method on the fine mesh.  相似文献

In this paper, some two-grid finite element schemes are constructed for solving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. With these schemes, the solution of the original problem is reduced to the solution of the same problem on a much coarser grid together with the solutions of two linear problems on a fine grid. We have shown, both theoretically and numerically, that our schemes are efficient and achieve asymptotically optimal accuracy.  相似文献

Two-grid finite volume element discretization techniques, based on two linear conforming finite element spaces on one coarse and one fine grid, are presented for the two-dimensional second-order non-selfadjoint and indefinite linear elliptic problems and the two-dimensional second-order nonlinear elliptic problems. With the proposed techniques, solving the non-selfadjoint and indefinite elliptic problem on the fine space is reduced into solving a symmetric and positive definite elliptic problem on the fine space and solving the non-selfadjoint and indefinite elliptic problem on a much smaller space; solving a nonlinear elliptic problem on the fine space is reduced into solving a linear problem on the fine space and solving the nonlinear elliptic problem on a much smaller space. Convergence estimates are derived to justify the efficiency of the proposed two-grid algorithms. A set of numerical examples are presented to confirm the estimates. In this paper, a new multilevel correction scheme is proposed to solve Stokes eigenvalue problems by the finite element method. This new scheme contains a series of correction steps, and the accuracy of eigenpair approximation can be improved after each step. In each correction step, we only need to solve a Stokes problem on the corresponding fine finite element space and a Stokes eigenvalue problem on the coarsest finite element space. This correction scheme can improve the efficiency of solving Stokes eigenvalue problems by the finite element method. As applications of this multilevel correction method, a multigrid method and an adaptive finite element technique are introduced for Stokes eigenvalue problems. Some numerical results are given to validate our schemes. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a two-grid mixed finite element scheme for distributed optimal control governed by general elliptic equations. –P1 mixed finite elements are used for the discretization of the state and co-state variables, whereas piecewise constant function is used to approximate the control variable. We first use a new approach to obtain the superclose property between the centroid interpolation and the numerical solution of the optimal control u with order h2 under the low regularity. Based on the superclose property, we derive the optimal a priori error estimates. Then, using a postprocessing projection operator, we get a second-order superconvergent result for the control u. Next, we construct a two-grid mixed finite element scheme and analyze a priori error estimates. In the two-grid scheme, the solution of the elliptic optimal control problem on a fine grid is reduced to the solution of the elliptic optimal control problem on a much coarser grid and the solution of a linear algebraic system on the fine grid and the resulting solution still maintains an asymptotically optimal accuracy. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the theoretical results.  相似文献

Some three-scale finite element discretization schemes are proposed and analyzed in this paper for a class of elliptic eigenvalue problems on tensor product domains. With these schemes, the solution of an eigenvalue problem on a fine grid may be reduced to the solutions of eigenvalue problems on a relatively coarse grid and some partially mesoscopic grids, together with the solutions of linear algebraic systems on a globally mesoscopic grid and several partially fine grids. It is shown theoretically and numerically that this type of discretization schemes not only significantly reduce the number of degrees of freedom but also produce very accurate approximations. In this article, we study numerical approximation for a class of singularly perturbed parabolic (SPP) convection-diffusion turning point problems. The considered SPP problem exhibits a parabolic boundary layer in the neighborhood of one of the sides of the domain. Some a priori bounds are given on the exact solution and its derivatives, which are necessary for the error analysis. A numerical scheme comprising of implicit finite difference method for time discretization on a uniform mesh and a hybrid scheme for spatial discretization on a generalized Shishkin mesh is proposed. Then Richardson extrapolation method is applied to increase the order of convergence in time direction. The resulting scheme has second-order convergence up to a logarithmic factor in space and second-order convergence in time. Numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the theoretical results and the comparative study is done with the existing schemes in literature to show better accuracy of the proposed schemes.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a two-grid method for resolving the nonlinearity in finite element approximations of the equilibrium Navier–Stokes equations. We prove the convergence rate of the approximation obtained by this method. The two-grid method involves solving one small, nonlinear coarse mesh system and two linear problems on the fine mesh which have the same stiffness matrix with only different right-hand side. The algorithm we study produces an approximate solution with the optimal asymptotic in h and accuracy for any Reynolds number. Numerical example is given to show the convergence of the method.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish a new local and parallel finite element discrete scheme based on the shifted‐inverse power method for solving the biharmonic eigenvalue problem of plate vibration. We prove the local error estimation of finite element solution for the biharmonic equation/eigenvalue problem and prove the error estimation of approximate solution obtained by the local and parallel scheme. When the diameters of three grids satisfy H4 = ?(w2) = ?(h), the approximate solutions obtained by our schemes can achieve the asymptotically optimal accuracy. The numerical experiments show that the computational schemes proposed in this paper are effective to solve the biharmonic eigenvalue problem of plate vibration.  相似文献

A Two-Level Method for Nonsymmetric Eigenvalue Problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A two-level discretization method for eigenvalue problems is studied. Compared to the standard Galerkin finite element discretization technique performed on a fine grid this method discretizes the eigenvalue problem on a coarse grid and obtains an improved eigenvector (eigenvalue) approximation by solving only a linear problem on the fine grid (or two linear problems for the case of eigenvalue approximation of nonsymmetric problems). The improved solution has the asymptotic accuracy of the Galerkin discretization solution. The link between the method and the iterated Galerkin method is established. Error estimates for the general nonsymmetric case are derived.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a two-grid method (TGM) based on the FEM for 2D nonlinear time fractional two-term mixed sub-diffusion and diffusion wave equations. A two-grid algorithm is proposed for solving the nonlinear system, which consists of two steps: a nonlinear FE system is solved on a coarse grid, then the linearized FE system is solved on the fine grid by Newton iteration based on the coarse solution. The fully discrete numerical approximation is analyzed, where the Galerkin finite element method for the space derivatives and the finite difference scheme for the time Caputo derivative with order $\alpha\in(1,2)$ and $\alpha_{1}\in(0,1)$. Numerical stability and optimal error estimate $O(h^{r+1}+H^{2r+2}+\tau^{\min\{3-\alpha,2-\alpha_{1}\}})$ in $L^{2}$-norm are presented for two-grid scheme, where $t,$ $H$ and $h$ are the time step size, coarse grid mesh size and fine grid mesh size, respectively. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to confirm our theoretical results and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献
