In this paper we present a robust duality theory for generalized convex programming problems in the face of data uncertainty within the framework of robust optimization. We establish robust strong duality for an uncertain nonlinear programming primal problem and its uncertain Lagrangian dual by showing strong duality between the deterministic counterparts: robust counterpart of the primal model and the optimistic counterpart of its dual problem. A robust strong duality theorem is given whenever the Lagrangian function is convex. We provide classes of uncertain non-convex programming problems for which robust strong duality holds under a constraint qualification. In particular, we show that robust strong duality is guaranteed for non-convex quadratic programming problems with a single quadratic constraint with the spectral norm uncertainty under a generalized Slater condition. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the nature of robust duality for uncertain nonlinear programming problems. We further show that robust duality continues to hold under a weakened convexity condition. 相似文献

A new method is used for solving nonlinear multiobjective fractional programming problems having V-invex objective and constraint functions with respect to the same function η. In this approach, an equivalent vector programming problem is constructed by a modification of the objective fractional function in the original nonlinear multiobjective fractional problem. Furthermore, a modified Lagrange function is introduced for a constructed vector optimization problem. By the help of the modified Lagrange function, saddle point results are presented for the original nonlinear fractional programming problem with several ratios. Finally, a Mond-Weir type dual is associated, and weak, strong and converse duality results are established by using the introduced method with a modified function. To obtain these duality results between the original multiobjective fractional programming problem and its original Mond-Weir duals, a modified Mond-Weir vector dual problem with a modified objective function is constructed. 相似文献

We point out a connection between sensitivity analysis and the fundamental theorem of linear programming by characterizing when a linear programming problem has no duality gap. The main result is that the value function is subdifferentiable at the primal constraint if and only if there exists an optimal dual solution and there is no duality gap. To illustrate the subtlety of the condition, we extend Kretschmer's gap example to construct (as the value function of a linear programming problem) a convex function which is subdifferentiable at a point but is not continuous there. We also apply the theorem to the continuum version of the assignment model. 相似文献

The trust-region problem, which minimizes a nonconvex quadratic function over a ball, is a key subproblem in trust-region methods for solving nonlinear optimization problems. It enjoys many attractive properties such as an exact semi-definite linear programming relaxation (SDP-relaxation) and strong duality. Unfortunately, such properties do not, in general, hold for an extended trust-region problem having extra linear constraints. This paper shows that two useful and powerful features of the classical trust-region problem continue to hold for an extended trust-region problem with linear inequality constraints under a new dimension condition. First, we establish that the class of extended trust-region problems has an exact SDP-relaxation, which holds without the Slater constraint qualification. This is achieved by proving that a system of quadratic and affine functions involved in the model satisfies a range-convexity whenever the dimension condition is fulfilled. Second, we show that the dimension condition together with the Slater condition ensures that a set of combined first and second-order Lagrange multiplier conditions is necessary and sufficient for global optimality of the extended trust-region problem and consequently for strong duality. Through simple examples we also provide an insightful account of our development from SDP-relaxation to strong duality. Finally, we show that the dimension condition is easily satisfied for the extended trust-region model that arises from the reformulation of a robust least squares problem (LSP) as well as a robust second order cone programming model problem (SOCP) as an equivalent semi-definite linear programming problem. This leads us to conclude that, under mild assumptions, solving a robust LSP or SOCP under matrix-norm uncertainty or polyhedral uncertainty is equivalent to solving a semi-definite linear programming problem and so, their solutions can be validated in polynomial time. 相似文献

The literature in the field of interior point methods for linear programming has been almost exclusively algorithm oriented. Recently Güler, Roos, Terlaky and Vial presented a complete duality theory for linear programming based on the interior point approach. In this paper we present a more simple approach which is based on an embedding of the primal problem and its dual into a skew symmetric self-dual problem. This embedding is essentially due Ye, Todd and Mizuno First we consider a skew symmetric self-dual linear program. We show that the strong duality theorem trivally holds in this case. Then, using the logarithmic barrier problem and the central path, the existence of a strictly complementary optimal solution is proved. Using the embedding just described, we easily obtain the strong duality theorem and the existence of strictly complementary optimal solutions for general linear programming problems 相似文献

In this paper we consider the dual problems for multiobjective programming with generalized convex functions. We obtain the weak duality and the strong duality. At last, we give an equivalent relationship between saddle point and efficient solution in multiobjective programming. 相似文献

It is known that the minimal cone for the constraint system of a conic linear programming problem is a key component in obtaining
strong duality without any constraint qualification. For problems in either primal or dual form, the minimal cone can be written
down explicitly in terms of the problem data. However, due to possible lack of closure, explicit expressions for the dual
cone of the minimal cone cannot be obtained in general. In the particular case of semidefinite programming, an explicit expression
for the dual cone of the minimal cone allows for a dual program of polynomial size that satisfies strong duality. In this
paper we develop a recursive procedure to obtain the minimal cone and its dual cone. In particular, for conic problems with
so-called nice cones, we obtain explicit expressions for the cones involved in the dual recursive procedure. As an example
of this approach, the well-known duals that satisfy strong duality for semidefinite programming problems are obtained. The
relation between this approach and a facial reduction algorithm is also discussed. 相似文献

This paper is concerned with the study of optimality conditions for disjunctive fractional minmax programming problems in which the decision set can be considered as a union of a family of convex sets. Dinkelbach’s global optimization approach for finding the global maximum of the fractional programming problem is discussed. Using the Lagrangian function definition for this type of problem, the Kuhn–Tucker saddle point and stationary-point problems are established. In addition, via the concepts of Mond–Weir type duality and Schaible type duality, a general dual problem is formulated and some weak, strong and converse duality theorems are proven. 相似文献

In this paper we define two notions: Kuhn–Tucker saddle point invex problem with inequality constraints and Mond–Weir weak
duality invex one. We prove that a problem is Kuhn–Tucker saddle point invex if and only if every point, which satisfies Kuhn–Tucker
optimality conditions forms together with the respective Lagrange multiplier a saddle point of the Lagrange function. We prove
that a problem is Mond–Weir weak duality invex if and only if weak duality holds between the problem and its Mond–Weir dual
one. Additionally, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions, which ensure that strong duality holds between the problem
with inequality constraints and its Wolfe dual. Connections with previously defined invexity notions are discussed. 相似文献

In this paper, we use the Lagrange multipliers approach to study a general infinite-dimensionalinequality-constrained linear program IP. The main problem we are concerned with is to show that thestrong duality condition for IP holds, so that IP and its dual IP* are both solvable and their optimal values coincide. To do this, we first express
IP as a convex program with a Lagrangian function L, say. Then we show that the strong duality condition implies the existence
of a saddle point for L, and that, under an additional, mild condition, theconverse is also true. Moreover, the saddle point gives optimal solutions for IP and IP*. Thus, our original problem is essentially
reduced to prove the existence of a saddle point for L, which is shown to be the case under suitable assumptions. We use this
fact to studyequality-constrained programs, and we illustrate our main results with applications to thegeneral capacity and themass transfer problems.

In this paper, we introduce a new dual program, which is representable as a semidefinite linear programming problem, for a primal convex minimax programming problem, and we show that there is no duality gap between the primal and the dual whenever the functions involved are sum-of-squares convex polynomials. Under a suitable constraint qualification, we derive strong duality results for this class of minimax problems. Consequently, we present applications of our results to robust sum-of-squares convex programming problems under data uncertainty and to minimax fractional programming problems with sum-of-squares convex polynomials. We obtain these results by first establishing sum-of-squares polynomial representations of non-negativity of a convex max function over a system of sum-of-squares convex constraints. The new class of sum-of-squares convex polynomials is an important subclass of convex polynomials and it includes convex quadratic functions and separable convex polynomials. The sum-of-squares convexity of polynomials can numerically be checked by solving semidefinite programming problems whereas numerically verifying convexity of polynomials is generally very hard. 相似文献

Logarithmic additive terms of barrier type with a penalty parameter are included in the Lagrange function of a linear programming problem. As a result, the problem of searching for saddle points of the modified Lagrangian becomes unconstrained (the saddle point is sought with respect to the whole space of primal and dual variables). Theorems on the asymptotic convergence to the desired solution and analogs of the duality theorems for the arising optimization minimax and maximin problems are formulated. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a duality theory for fractional programming problems in the face of data uncertainty via robust optimization. By employing conjugate analysis, we establish robust strong duality for an uncertain fractional programming problem and its uncertain Wolfe dual programming problem by showing strong duality between the deterministic counterparts: robust counterpart of the primal model and the optimistic counterpart of its dual problem. We show that our results encompass as special cases some programming problems considered in the recent literature. Moreover, we also show that robust strong duality always holds for linear fractional programming problems under scenario data uncertainty or constraint-wise interval uncertainty, and that the optimistic counterpart of the dual is tractable computationally. 相似文献

We consider the class of linear programs with infinitely many variables and constraints having the property that every constraint contains at most finitely many variables while every variable appears in at most finitely many constraints. Examples include production planning and equipment replacement over an infinite horizon. We form the natural dual linear programming problem and prove strong duality under a transversality condition that dual prices are asymptotically zero. That is, we show, under this transversality condition, that optimal solutions are attained in both primal and dual problems and their optimal values are equal. The transversality condition, and hence strong duality, is established for an infinite horizon production planning problem. This material is based on work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. ECS-8700836. 相似文献

In this paper, we propose a duality theory for semi-infinite linear programming problems under uncertainty in the constraint functions, the objective function, or both, within the framework of robust optimization. We present robust duality by establishing strong duality between the robust counterpart of an uncertain semi-infinite linear program and the optimistic counterpart of its uncertain Lagrangian dual. We show that robust duality holds whenever a robust moment cone is closed and convex. We then establish that the closed-convex robust moment cone condition in the case of constraint-wise uncertainty is in fact necessary and sufficient for robust duality. In other words, the robust moment cone is closed and convex if and only if robust duality holds for every linear objective function of the program. In the case of uncertain problems with affinely parameterized data uncertainty, we establish that robust duality is easily satisfied under a Slater type constraint qualification. Consequently, we derive robust forms of the Farkas lemma for systems of uncertain semi-infinite linear inequalities. 相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a generalized proximal Lagrangian function for the constrained nonlinear programming problem and discuss existence of its saddle points. In particular, the local saddle point is obtained by using the second-order sufficient conditions, and the global saddle point is given without requiring compactness of constraint set and uniqueness of the optimal solution. Finally, we establish equivalent relationship between global saddle points and exact penalty representations. 相似文献
