We show that, if an MCP (monotonically countably paracompact) space fails to be collectionwise Hausdorff, then there is a measurable cardinal and that, if there are two measurable cardinals, then there is an MCP space that fails to be collectionwise Hausdorff.

In this paper, we introduce a monotone version of cb-spaces, monotone cb-spaces (mcb-spaces). This property is shown to relate closely to insertion of continuous functions. We give some characterizations of mcb-spaces and investigate the relations among mcb-spaces and cb-spaces, countably compact spaces, stratifiable spaces, MCP and MCM.  相似文献

We define the isoperimetric constant for any locally finite metric space and we study the property of having isoperimetric constant equal to zero. This property, called Small Neighborhood property, clearly extends amenability to any locally finite space. Therefore, we start making a comparison between this property and other notions of amenability for locally finite metric spaces that have been proposed by Gromov, Lafontaine and Pansu, by Ceccherini-Silberstein, Grigorchuk and de la Harpe and by Block and Weinberger. We discuss possible applications of the property SN in the study of embedding a metric space into another one. In particular, we propose three results: we prove that a certain class of metric graphs that are isometrically embeddable into Hilbert spaces must have the property SN. We also show, by a simple example, that this result is not true replacing property SN with amenability. As a second result, we prove that many spaces with uniform bounded geometry having a bi-lipschitz embedding into Euclidean spaces must have the property SN. Finally, we prove a Bourgain-like theorem for metric trees: a metric tree with uniform bounded geometry and without property SN does not have bi-lipschitz embeddings into finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

Abstract

We show that each non-trivial epireflective subcategory of the topological or pretopological spaces fails to be cartesian closed. Motivated by this “negative” result, we consider the supercategory of pseudotopological spaces and obtain: An epireflective subcategory of the pseudotopological spaces which contains a finite non-indiscrete space is cartesian closed iff it is closed with respect to powers in the pseudotopological spaces. Here the density property that every pseudotopological space is a final epi-sink of free ultraspaces is essential.  相似文献

We recursively determine the homotopy type of the space of any irreducible framed link in the 3-sphere, modulo rotations. This leads us to the homotopy type of the space of any knot in the solid torus, thus answering a question posed by Arnold. We similarly study spaces of unframed links in the 3-sphere, modulo rotations, and spaces of knots in the thickened torus. The subgroup of meridional rotations splits as a direct factor of the fundamental group of the space of any framed link except the unknot. Its generators can be viewed as generalizations of the Gramain loop in the space of long knots. Taking the quotient by certain such rotations relates the spaces we study. All of our results generalize previous work of Hatcher and Budney. We provide many examples and explicitly describe generators of fundamental groups.

We study two aspects of the loop group formulation for isometric immersions with flat normal bundle of space forms. The first aspect is to examine the loop group maps along different ranges of the loop parameter. This leads to various equivalences between global isometric immersion problems among different space forms and pseudo-Riemannian space forms. As a corollary, we obtain a non-immersibility theorem for spheres into certain pseudo-Riemannian spheres and hyperbolic spaces. The second aspect pursued is to clarify the relationship between the loop group formulation of isometric immersions of space forms and that of pluriharmonic maps into symmetric spaces. We show that the objects in the first class are, in the real analytic case, extended pluriharmonic maps into certain symmetric spaces which satisfy an extra reality condition along a totally real submanifold. We show how to construct such pluriharmonic maps for general symmetric spaces from curved flats, using a generalised DPW method.   相似文献

Continuous Frames, Function Spaces, and the Discretization Problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A continuous frame is a family of vectors in a Hilbert space which allows reproductions of arbitrary elements by continuous superpositions. Associated to a given continuous frame we construct certain Banach spaces. Many classical function spaces can be identified as such spaces. We provide a general method to derive Banach frames and atomic decompositions for these Banach spaces by sampling the continuous frame. This is done by generalizing the coorbit space theory developed by Feichtinger and Gröchenig. As an important tool the concept of localization of frames is extended to continuous frames. As a byproduct we give a partial answer to the question raised by Ali, Antoine, and Gazeau whether any continuous frame admits a corresponding discrete realization generated by sampling.  相似文献

Algebraic systems abstracting properties of convex bodies and intervals, with respect to addition and multiplication by scalars, known as quasilinear spaces, are studied axiomatically. We discuss special quasilinear spaces with group structure called quasivector spaces. We show that every quasivector space is a direct sum of a vector space and a symmetric quasivector space. A complete characterization of symmetric quasivector spaces in the finite dimensional case is given, which permits to reduce computation in quasilinear spaces to computation in familiar vector spaces.  相似文献

A generalization of Phelps' lemma to locally convex spaces is proven, applying its well-known Banach space version. We show the equivalence of this theorem, Ekeland's principle and Danes' drop theorem in locally convex spaces to their Banach space counterparts and to a Pareto efficiency theorem due to Isac. This solves a problem, concerning the drop theorem, proposed by G. Isac in 1997.

We show that a different formulation of Ekeland's principle in locally convex spaces, using a family of topology generating seminorms as perturbation functions rather than a single (in general discontinuous) Minkowski functional, turns out to be equivalent to the original version.

The notion of a metric bead space was introduced in the preceding paper (L.Pasicki: Bead spaces and fixed point theorems, Topology Appl., vol. 156 (2009), 1811–1816) and it was proved there that every bounded set in such a space (provided the space is complete) has a unique central point. The bead spaces themselves can be considered in particular as natural extensions of convex sets in uniformly convex spaces. It appears that normed bead spaces are identical with uniformly convex spaces. On the other hand the “metric” approach leads to new elementary conditions equivalent to the uniform convexity. The initial part of the paper contains the proof that discus spaces (they seem to have a richer structure) are identical with bead spaces.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the notion of expanding topological space. We define the topological expansion of a topological space via local multi-homeomorphism over coproduct topology, and we prove that the coproduct family associated to any fractal family of topological spaces is expanding. In particular, we prove that the more a topological space expands, the finer the topology of its indexed states is. Using multi-homeomorphisms over associated coproduct topological spaces, we define a locally expandable topological space and we prove that a locally expandable topological space has a topological expansion. Specifically, we prove that the fractal manifold is locally expandable and has a topological expansion.  相似文献

We construct connected, locally connected, almost regular, countable, Urysohn spaces. This answers a problem of G.X. Ritter. We show that there are 2c such non-homeomorphic spaces. We also show that there are 2c non-homeomorphic spaces which are further rigid. We discuss the group of homeomorphisms of such spaces.The following question was raised by G.X. Ritter: Does there exist a countable connected locally connected Urysohn space which is almost regular? We answer this question in the affirmative and in fact, show that not only are there as many as 2c such spaces but that there are just as many rigid spaces with the same properties. Furthermore we show that every countable Urysohn space is a subspace of such a space. We also prove that every countable group is isomorphic to the group of autohomeomorphisms of some connected locally connected almost regular Urysohn space. Examples are given of groups of order c which can be represented in this manner.  相似文献

We investigate how coarse embeddability of box spaces into Hilbert space behaves under group extensions. In particular, we prove a result which implies that a semidirect product of a finitely generated free group by a finitely generated residually finite amenable group has a box space which coarsely embeds into Hilbert space. This provides a new class of examples of metric spaces with bounded geometry which coarsely embed into Hilbert space but do not have property A, generalising the example of Arzhantseva, Guentner and Spakula.  相似文献

A characterization of compact subspaces of extremally disconnected spaces is given which is similar to Gleason's characterization that the extremally disconnected spaces are projective for the class of compact spaces. An equivalence is established between the questions of whether every basically disconnected space is embeddable into an extremally disconnected space and the Borel lifting problems for the category algebras of generalized Cantor cubes. We study an inductive method of strengthening the product topology on the Cantor cubes to extremally disconnected topologies and use this to establish, from CH, that every compact F-space of weight c+ embeds into an extremally disconnected space.  相似文献

We investigate some basic questions concerning the relationship between the restricted Grassmannian and the theory of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces. By using universal central extensions of Lie algebras, we find that the restricted Grassmannian is symplectomorphic to symplectic leaves in certain Banach Lie-Poisson spaces, and the underlying Banach space can be chosen to be even a Hilbert space. Smoothness of numerous adjoint and coadjoint orbits of the restricted unitary group is also established. Several pathological properties of the restricted algebra are pointed out.  相似文献

In this paper we begin the study of some important Banach spaces of slice hyperholomorphic functions, namely the Bloch, Besov and weighted Bergman spaces, and we also consider the Dirichlet space, which is a Hilbert space. The importance of these spaces is well known, and thus their study in the framework of slice hyperholomorphic functions is relevant, especially in view of the fact that this class of functions has recently found several applications in operator theory and in Schur analysis. We also discuss the property of invariance of these function spaces with respect to Möbius maps by using a suitable notion of composition.  相似文献
