In this paper, we study a nonlinear elliptic problem in an annulus domain. For which, the nonexistence of nontrivial solutions has been obtained by some authors in star‐shaped domain. Although we note that it may admit non‐trivial solutions if the domain is non‐star shaped. With the use of a variational method, we establish the existence of positive radial solutions in an annulus domain. On the basis of this, we also extend this result to the periodic problem of the corresponding degenerate parabolic problem. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider the problem how a convex optimal-value function arising in primal decomposition can be finitely continued beyond its domain. By a suitable presentation of the exact penalty method an implementable continuation can be obtained which does not change the set of optimal solutions. If the problem has separability and partially linearity properties we manage to obtain a complete continuation of the optimal-value function.  相似文献

The quenching problem is examined for a one‐dimensional heat equation with a non‐linear boundary condition that is of either local or non‐local type. Sufficient conditions are derived that establish both quenching and non‐quenching behaviour. The growth rate of the solution near quenching is also given for a power‐law non‐linearity. We investigate the existence of ground state solutions to the Dirichlet problem in , u = 0 on , where , and is a domain in . In particular we prove that a non negative ground state solution exists when the domain is a cone, including the case . Moroever, we study the case of arbitrary domains, showing how the geometry of the domain near the origin and at infinity affects the existence or non existence of ground state solutions. In this paper, we present an approximate analytical solution for solving one dimensional two phase Stefan problem. The finite sine transform technique is used to convert the non dimensional form from a space domain to a wave number domain. Inverse finite sine transform is used to obtain the desired solution. The location of moving interface during freezing process in a finite domain is studied and the result thus obtained are discussed graphically. We analyse the evolution of a system of finite faults by considering the non‐linear eigenvalue problems associated to static and dynamic solutions on unbounded domains. We restrict our investigation to the first eigenvalue (Rayleigh quotient). We point out its physical significance through a stability analysis and we give an efficient numerical algorithm able to compute it together with the corresponding eigenfunction. We consider the anti‐plane shearing on a system of finite faults under a slip‐dependent friction in a linear elastic domain, not necessarily bounded. The static problem is formulated in terms of local minima of the energy functional. We introduce the non‐linear (static) eigenvalue problem and we prove the existence of a first eigenvalue/eigenfunction characterizing the isolated local minima. For the dynamic problem, we discuss the existence of solutions with an exponential growth, to deduce a (dynamic) non‐linear eigenvalue problem. We prove the existence of a first dynamic eigenvalue and we analyse its behaviour with respect to the friction parameter. We deduce a mixed finite element discretization of the non‐linear spectral problem and we give a numerical algorithm to approach the first eigenvalue/eigenfunction. Finally we give some numerical results which include convergence tests, on a single fault and a two‐faults system, and a comparison between the non‐linear spectral results and the time evolution results. In this paper we show the existence of weak solutions for a nonlinear elliptic equation with arbitrary growth of the non linearity and data measure. A numerical algorithm to compute a numerical approximation of the weak solution is described and analyzed. In a first step a super-solution is computed using a domain decomposition method. The asymptotic behaviour of a heat conduction problem involving a non‐linear heat source depending on the heat‐flux occurring in the extremum of a semi‐infinite slab is discussed. In this paper we discuss the multicriteria p-facility median location problem on networks with positive and negative weights. We assume that the demand is located at the nodes and can be different for each criterion under consideration. The goal is to obtain the set of Pareto-optimal locations in the graph and the corresponding set of non-dominated objective values. To that end, we first characterize the linearity domains of the distance functions on the graph and compute the image of each linearity domain in the objective space. The lower envelope of a transformation of all these images then gives us the set of all non-dominated points in the objective space and its preimage corresponds to the set of all Pareto-optimal solutions on the graph. For the bicriteria 2-facility case we present a low order polynomial time algorithm. Also for the general case we propose an efficient algorithm, which is polynomial if the number of facilities and criteria is fixed.  相似文献

If R is a simple Noetherian ring and V an R-module, then every homogeneous function on V is an endomorphism, i.e., the forcing linearity number, fln(V), of V is zero, unless R is a domain. Here we consider the problem of finding forcing linearity numbers for modules over simple Noetherian domains. We consider the prototype model for flow and transport of a concentration in porous media in an interior domain and couple it with a diffusion process in the corresponding unbounded exterior domain. To guarantee mass conservation and stability with respect to dominating convection also for a discrete solution we introduce a non symmetric coupling of the vertex-centered finite volume method (FVM) and the boundary element method (BEM). BEM approximates the unbounded exterior problem which avoids truncation of the domain. One can also interpret that the (unbounded) exterior problem “replaces” the boundary conditions of the interior problem. We aim to provide a first rigorous analysis of the discrete system for different model parameters; existence and uniqueness, convergence, and a priori estimates. A new method, based on the Kelvin transformation and the Fokas integral method, is employed for solving analytically a potential problem in a non‐convex unbounded domain of ?2, assuming the Neumann boundary condition. Taking advantage of the property of the Kelvin transformation to preserve harmonicity, we apply it to the present problem. In this way, the exterior potential problem is transformed to an equivalent one in the interior domain which is the Kelvin image of the original exterior one. An integral representation of the solution of the interior problem is obtained by employing the Kelvin inversion in ?2 for the Neumann data and the ‘Neumann to Dirichlet’ map for the Dirichlet data. Applying next the ‘reverse’ Kelvin transformation, we finally obtain an integral representation of the solution of the original exterior Neumann problem. We consider the problem which consists in finding an optimal Lipschitz extension to the domain Ω of functions that verify the restriction u = g on ∂Ω. This work deals with the numerical approximations of the problem in dimension two. We give null controllability results for some degenerate parabolic equations in non divergence form on a bounded interval. In particular, the coefficient of the second order term degenerates at the extreme points of the domain. For this reason, we obtain an observability inequality for the adjoint problem. Then we prove Carleman estimates for such a problem. Finally, in a standard way, we deduce null controllability also for semilinear equations.   相似文献

The aim of this article is to study a nonlinear system modeling a Non-Newtonian fluid of polymer aqueous solutions. We are interested here in the existence of weak solutions for the stationary problem in a bounded plane domain or in two-dimensional exterior domain. Due to the third order of derivatives in the non-linear term, it’s difficult to obtain solutions satisfying energy inequality. But with a good choice of boundary conditions, an adapted special basis and the use of the good properties of the trilinear form associated to the non-linear term, we obtain energy solutions. The problem in bounded domains is treated and the more difficult problem on non bounded domains too.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a parallel Newton–Krylov–Schwarz (NKS)‐based non‐linearly implicit algorithm for the numerical solution of the unsteady non‐linear multimaterial radiation diffusion problem in two‐dimensional space. A robust solver technology is required for handling the high non‐linearity and large jumps in material coefficients typically associated with simulations of radiation diffusion phenomena. We show numerically that NKS converges well even with rather large inflow flux boundary conditions. We observe that the approach is non‐linearly scalable, but not linearly scalable in terms of iteration numbers. However, CPU time is more important than the iteration numbers, and our numerical experiments show that the algorithm is CPU‐time‐scalable even without a coarse space given that the mesh is fine enough. This makes the algorithm potentially more attractive than multilevel methods, especially on unstructured grids, where course grids are often not easy to construct.
