A cyclophane is reported incorporating two units of a heptagon-containing extended polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) analogue of the hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) moiety (hept-HBC). This cyclophane represents a new class of macrocyclic structures that incorporate for the first time seven-membered rings within extended PAH frameworks. The saddle curvature of the hept-HBC macrocycle units induced by the presence of the nonhexagonal ring along with the flexible alkyl linkers generate a cavity with shape complementarity and appropriate size to enable π interactions with fullerenes. Therefore, the cyclophane forms host–guest complexes with C60 and C70 with estimated binding constants of Ka=420±2 m −1 and Ka=(6.49±0.23)×103 m −1, respectively. As a result, the macrocycle can selectively bind C70 in the presence of an excess of a mixture of C60 and C70.  相似文献

The combination of a bent diamino(nickel(II) porphyrin) with 2‐formylpyridine and FeII yielded an FeII4L6 cage. Upon treatment with the fullerenes C60 or C70, this cage was found to transform into a new host–guest complex incorporating three FeII centers and four porphyrin ligands, in an arrangement that is hypothesized to maximize π interactions between the porphyrin units of the host and the fullerene guest bound within its central cavity. The new complex shows coordinative unsaturation at one of the FeII centers as the result of the incommensurate metal‐to‐ligand ratio, which enabled the preparation of a heterometallic cone‐shaped CuIFeII2L4 adduct of C60 or C70.  相似文献

An anthracene cyclic hexamer was synthesized by the coupling reaction as a macrocyclic hydrocarbon host. This disk‐shaped host included a C60 guest in 1:1 ratio to form a Saturn‐type supramolecular complex in solution and in crystals. X‐ray analysis unambiguously revealed that the guest molecule was accommodated in the middle of the host cavity with several CH???π contacts. The association constant Ka determined by NMR titration measurements was 2.3×103 L mol?1 at 298 K in toluene. The structural features and the role of CH???π interactions are discussed with the aid of DFT calculations.  相似文献

A diethylpyrrole‐bridged dizinc(II) bisporphyrin (Zn2DEP) is reported that encapsulates fluorescent probe pyrene molecules through strong π–π interactions, which can relay information about the chemical environment in the interior of the host–guest supramolecular assembly. X‐ray structures of both Zn2DEP and the encapsulated pyrene complex are reported, which provides a rare opportunity to investigate the structural changes upon guest binding. A comparative structural analysis demonstrated the exceptional ability of this bisporphyrin platform to open its binding pocket for pyrene encapsulation by a vertical displacement of more than 2.45 Å, although both Zn2DEP and the pyrene complex have nearly parallel porphyrin ring orientations. The 1H NMR spectrum of the encapsulated pyrene complex in solution shows the upfield shifts of the pyrene protons due to a strong ring current effect, which demonstrates the retention of the solid‐state structure in solution. To further assess the extent to which pyrene guests remain encapsulated in solution, a known fluorescence quencher, dimethylaniline, was added to the host–guest assembly, which shows no exciplex formation for days in nonpolar solvents. Thus, the assembly also retained the structural integrity in solution for a long time. The association constant (Kasso) for such a complexation process in solution was observed to be 1.78×105 M ?2 for 1:2 binding. Steady‐state fluorescence and lifetime studies indicate significant photoinduced singlet–singlet energy transformation from the excited state of pyrene to zinc bisporphyrin.  相似文献

An M2L4 coordination capsule or an M2L2 coordination tube was selectively formed by the combination of HgII hinges and bent bispyridine ligands. The two structures reversibly interconvert at room temperature in response to modulation of the metal‐to‐ligand ratio and exhibit different host–guest interaction behavior. The capsule alone encapsulates large spherical molecules, fullerenes C60 and C70, and the bound guests are released upon capsule‐to‐tube transformation by the simple addition of metal ions.  相似文献

Charged or neutral adamantane guests can be encapsulated into the cavity of cationic metal–organic M6L4 (bpy-cage, M=PdII(2,2′-bipyridine), L=2,4,6-tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) cages through hydrophobic interaction. These encapsulations can provide an approach to control the net charge on the resulting cage–guest complexes and regulate their charge-dominated assembly into hollow spherical blackberry-type assemblies in dilute solutions: encapsulation of neutral guests will hardly influence their self-assembly process, including the blackberry structure size, which is directly related to the intercage distance in the assembly; whereas encapsulating negatively (positively) charged guests resulted in a shorter (longer) intercage distance with larger (smaller) assemblies formed. Therefore, the host–guest chemistry approach can be used to tune the intercage distance accurately.  相似文献

This article reports that an M2L4 molecular capsule is capable of encapsulating various neutral molecules in quantitative yields. The capsule was obtained as a single product by mixing a small number of components; two PdII ions and four bent bispyridine ligands containing two anthracene panels. Detailed studies of the host capability of the PdII‐linked capsule revealed that spherical (e.g., paracyclophane, adamantanes, and fullerene C60), planar (e.g., pyrenes and triphenylene), and bowl‐shaped molecules (e.g., corannulene) were encapsulated in the large spherical cavity, giving rise to 1:1 and 1:2 host–guest complexes, respectively. The volume of the encapsulated guest molecules ranged from 190 to 490 Å3. Within the capsule, the planar guests adopt a stacked‐dimer structure and the bowl‐shaped guests formed an unprecedented concave‐to‐concave capsular structure, which are fully shielded by the anthracene shell. Competitive binding experiments of the capsule with a set of the planar guests established a preferential binding series for pyrenes≈phenanthrene>triphenylene. Furthermore, the capsule showed the selective formation of an unusual ternary complex in the case of triphenylene and corannulene.  相似文献

Supramolecular chemistry has become a central theme in chemical and biological sciences over the last decades. Supramolecular structures are being increasingly used in biomedical applications, particularly in devices requiring specific stimuli-responsiveness. Fullerenes, and supramolecular assemblies thereof, have gained great visibility in biomedical sciences and engineering. Sensitive and selective methods are required for the study of their inclusion in complexes in various application fields. With this in mind, two new fluorescent bis-calix[4]arene-carbazole conjugates (4 and 5) have been designed. Herein, their synthesis and ability to behave as specific hosts for fullerenes C60 and C70 is described. The optical properties of the novel compounds and their complexes with C60 and C70 were thoroughly studied by UV-Vis and steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopies. The association constants (Ka) for the complexation of C60 and C70 by 4 and 5 were determined by fluorescence techniques. A higher stability was found for the C70@4 supramolecule (Ka = 5.6 × 104 M−1; ΔG = −6.48 kcal/mol). Evidence for the formation of true inclusion complexes between the host 4 and C60/C70 was obtained from NMR spectroscopy performed at low temperatures. The experimental findings were fully corroborated by density functional theory (DFT) models performed on the host–guest assemblies (C60@4 and C70@4).  相似文献

In this study we synthesized two‐ and four‐armed porphyrins – bearing two carboxyl and four 2‐aminoquinolino functionalities, respectively, at their meso positions – as a complementary hydrogen bonding pair for the self‐assembly of a D2‐symmetric porphyrin trimer host. Two units of the two‐armed porphyrin and one unit of the four‐armed porphyrin self‐assembled quantitatively into the D2‐symmetric porphyrin trimer, stabilized through ammidinium‐carboxylate salt bridge formation, in CH2Cl2 and CHCl3. The porphyrin trimer host gradually bound two units of 1,3,5‐trinitrobenzene between the pair of porphyrin units, forming a five‐layer aromatic structure. At temperatures below ?40 °C, the rates of association and dissociation of the complexes were slow on the NMR spectroscopic time scale, allowing the 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 complexes of the trimer host and trinitrobenzene guest(s) to be detected independently when using less than 2 eq of trinitrobenzene. Vis titration experiments revealed the values of K1 (2.1±0.4×105 M?1) and K2 (2.2±0.06×104 M?1) in CHCl3 at room temperature.  相似文献

A cyclic zinc(II) bisporphyrin with flexible linker was employed as a dynamic molecular switch under the regulation of π‐acceptors (tetracyanoquinodimethane, trinitrofluorenone, 9‐dicyanomethylenefluorene) and bidentate N‐donor ligands (1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, pyrazine, 4,4′‐bipyridine). The cyclic bisporphyrin host can efficiently encapsulate the π‐acceptor guests through the strong π–π interaction, which can be replaced again by using a bidentate N‐donor ligand, which coordinates strongly with the metal centers. The open conformation of the bisporphyrin can be efficiently recovered by removing the bidentate ligands using Cu+ ion. During the process, two porphyrin rings also reversibly change their relative orientation between perpendicular and parallel. The behavior of the cyclic bisporphyrin was followed by using UV/Vis, 1H NMR, fluorescence, and electrochemical analyses along with X‐ray structure determination of the complexes. Moreover, control of photoinduced electron transfer (PET “ON‐OFF”) is also achieved by the use of guest exchange. Association constants for the host–guest binding were very high, which further explains the robust nature of such assemblies in solution. The experimental evidence is supported by DFT calculations. Such controllable dynamic features can constitute a new step towards "smart" adaptive molecular devices and the emergence of such systems is of significant interest in supramolecular chemistry.  相似文献

FeII4L6 tetrahedral cage 1 was prepared from a redox-active dicationic naphthalenediimide (NDI) ligand. The +20 charge of the cage makes it a good host for anionic guests, with no binding observed for neutral aromatic molecules. Following reduction by Cp2Co, the cage released anionic guests; subsequent oxidation by AgNTf2 led to re-uptake of anions. In its reduced form, however, 1 was observed to bind neutral C60. The fullerene guest was subsequently ejected following cage re-oxidation. The guest release process was found to be facilitated by anion-mediated transport from organic to aqueous solution. Cage 1 thus employs electron transfer as a stimulus to control the uptake and release of both neutral and charged guests, through distinct pathways.

FeII4L6 cage 1 binds anionic guests but not neutral guests. In its reduced form, the cage can bind neutral C60. Reduction and oxidation of the cage could thus be used as a stimulus to control the uptake and release of both neutral and charged guests.  相似文献

A rigid, covalently linked perylene‐3,4:9,10‐tetracarboxylic acid bisimide (PBI) cyclophane was synthesized by imidization of a bay‐substituted perylene bisanhydride with p‐xylylenediamine. The interchromophoric distance of approximately 6.5 Å establishes an ideal rigid cavity for the encapsulation of large aromatic compounds such as perylene and anthracene with binding constants up to 4.6×104 M ?1 (in CHCl3). For electron‐poor guest molecules, the complexation process is accompanied by a significantly increased fluorescence, whereas the emission intensity is dramatically quenched by more electron‐rich guests because of the formation of charge‐transfer complexes. Furthermore, the influence of the PBI core twist on the binding constant results in a remarkable selectivity towards more flexible aromatic guest molecules.  相似文献

The host–guest interactions between phenazine hydrochloride salt (PheH+) and hemicucurbit[n]uril (n = 6 or 12) (HemiQ[6 or 12]) have been studied by 1H NMR, UV–vis, IR, mass spectrometry (MS) and quantum chemistry. In 1H NMR spectra, the broadening of proton resonances of the hosts suggests the interactions of PheH+ with HemiQs. The quantitative stabilities of the host–guest systems have been obtained by UV–vis titration experiments, that is, the stoichiometric interactions of PheH+ with HemiQ[6] have been observed with an association constant of Ka = (2.5 ± 1.2) × 106 L mol? 1, while the 2:1 ratio complexes of PheH+ with HemiQ[12] are formed with stepwise association constants of K1 = (9.2 ± 2.8) × 104 L mol? 1 and K2 = (6.4 ± 0.9) × 105 L mol? 1, respectively, which induce a total association constant of Ka = 5.9 × 1010 L2 mol? 2. Both the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes have been detected by MS. Quantum chemistry calculations have been used to understand the static structures and thermodynamic stabilities of the supramolecular assemblies.  相似文献

Supramolecular capsules were assembled by neutral halogen bonding (XB) and studied in the solid state, in solution, and in the gas phase. The geometry of the highly organized capsules is shown by an X‐ray crystal structure which features the assembly of two XB hemispheres, geometrically rigidified by H‐bonding to eight MeOH molecules and encapsulation of two benzene guests. To enhance capsular association strength, tuning the XB donor is more efficient than tuning the XB acceptor, due to desolvation penalties in protic solvents, as shown for a tetraquinuclidine XB acceptor hemisphere. With a tetra(iodoethynyl) XB donor and a tetralutidine XB acceptor, the association in deuterated benzene/acetone/methanol 70:30:1 at 283 K reaches K a=(2.11±0.39)×105 m −1G =−6.9±0.1 kcal mol−1). The stability of the XB capsules in the gas phase was confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS). A new guest binding site was uncovered within the elongated iodoethynyl capsule.  相似文献

Interaction between tetramethylcucurbit[6]uril (TMeQ[6], host) and the hydrochloride salt of α-furaldehyde-isonicotinyl-hydrazone hydrochloride (FIHH+, guest) was investigated using X-ray crystallography and spectroscopic methods. X-ray crystallography showed that the π–π stacking effect and hydrogen bonding resulted in the formation of a dumbbell-shaped supramolecule which contained two FIHH+@TMeQ[6] host–guest inclusion complexes. The host–guest interaction provided identifiable changes in the vibrational frequencies in the IR spectra. 1H NMR spectral analysis established a similar interaction model and revealed that TMeQ[6] preferred to include the furan moiety over the pyridine moiety of the FIHH+ guest molecule. Absorption spectrophotometric analysis suggested that the host and guest interact in a ratio of 1:1 with a stability constant K s = (3.52 ± 0.74) × 106 l mol? 1.pH titration confirmed that the host–guest interaction led to a clear change in the protonation constant of the title guest. Quantum chemical calculations were used to determine the possible mechanism of formation of the dumbbell-shaped complex.  相似文献

The first examples of porous molecular crystals that are assembled through Au⋅⋅⋅Au interactions of gold complex 1 are here reported along with their exchange properties with respect to their guest components. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses indicate that the crystal structure of 1 /CH2Cl2⋅pentane is based on cyclic hexamers of 1 , which are formed through six Au⋅⋅⋅Au interactions. The packing of these cyclic hexamers affords a porous architecture, in which the one-dimensional channel segment contains CH2Cl2 and pentane as guests. These guests can be exchanged through operationally simple methods under retention of the host framework of 1 , which furnished 1 /guest complexes with 26 different guests. A single-crystal XRD analysis of 1 /eicosane, which contains the long linear alkane eicosane (n-C20H42), successfully provided its accurately modeled structure within the porous material. These host–guest complexes show chromic luminescence with both blue- and redshifted emissions. Moreover, this porous organometallic material can exhibit luminescent mechanochromism through release of guests.  相似文献

Molecular clip 1 remains monomeric in water and engages in host–guest recognition processes with suitable guests. We report the Ka values for 32 1? guest complexes measured by 1H NMR, UV/Vis, and fluorescence titrations. The cavity of 1 is shaped by aromatic surfaces of negative electrostatic potential and therefore displays high affinity and selectivity for planar and cationic aromatic guests that distinguishes it from CB[n] receptors that prefer aliphatic over aromatic guests. Electrostatic effects play a dominant role in the recognition process whereby ion–dipole interactions may occur between ammonium ions and the C=O groups of 1 , between the SO3? groups of 1 and pendant cationic groups on the guest, and within the cavity of 1 by cation–π interactions. Host 1 displays a high affinity toward dicationic guests with large planar aromatic surfaces (e.g. naphthalene diimide NDI+ and perylene diimide PDI+) and cationic dyes derived from acridine (e.g. methylene blue and azure A). The critical importance of cation–π interactions was ascertained by a comparison of analogous neutral and cationic guests (e.g. methylene violet vs. methylene blue; quinoline vs. N‐methylquinolinium; acridine vs. N‐methylacridinium; neutral red vs. neutral red H+) the affinities of which differ by up to 380‐fold. We demonstrate that the high affinity of 1 toward methylene blue (Ka=3.92×107 m ?1; Kd=25 nm ) allows for the selective sequestration and destaining of U87 cells stained with methylene blue.  相似文献

An artificial light‐harvesting multiporphyrin dendrimer ( 8PZnPFB ) composed of a focal freebase porphyrin ( PFB ) with eight zinc(II) porphyrin ( PZn ) wings exhibited unique photophysical property switching in response to specific guest molecule binding. UV/Vis titration studies indicated stable 1:2 host–guest complex formation between 8PZnPFB and meso‐tetrakis(4‐pyridyl)‐porphyrin ( TPyP ) for which the first and second association constants were estimated to be >108 M ?1 and 3.0×107 M ?1, respectively. 8PZnPFB originally shows 94 % energy transfer efficiency from PZn to the focal PFB . By the formation of the host–guest complex ( 8PZnPFB? 2 TPyP ) the emission intensity of 8PZnPFB is significantly decreased, and an ultrafast charge separation state is generated. The energy transfer process from PZn wings to the PFB core in 8PZnPFB is almost entirely switched to an electron transfer process by the formation of 8PZnPFB? 2 TPyP .  相似文献

The metal‐directed supramolecular synthetic approach has paved the way for the development of functional nanosized molecules. In this work, we report the preparation of the new nanocapsule 3? (CF3SO3)8 with a A4B2 tetragonal prismatic geometry, where A corresponds to the dipalladium hexaazamacrocyclic complex Pd‐1 , and B corresponds to the tetraanionic form of palladium 5,10,15,20‐tetrakis(4‐carboxyphenyl)porphyrin ( 2 ). The large void space of the inner cavity and the supramolecular affinity for guest molecules towards porphyrin‐based hosts converts this nanoscale molecular 3D structure into a good candidate for host–guest chemistry. The interaction between this nanocage and different guest molecules has been studied by means of NMR, UV/Vis, ESI‐MS, and DOSY experiments, from which highly selective molecular recognition has been found for anionic, planar‐shaped π guests with association constants (Ka) higher than 109 M ?1, in front of non‐interacting aromatic neutral or cationic substrates. DFT theoretical calculations provided insights to further understand this strong interaction. Nanocage 3? (CF3SO3)8 can not only strongly host one single molecule of M(dithiolene)2 complexes (M=Au, Pt, Pd, and Ni), but also can finely tune their optical and redox properties. The very simple synthesis of both the supramolecular cage and the building blocks represents a step forward for the development of polyfunctional supramolecular nanovessels, which offer multiple applications as sensors or nanoreactors.  相似文献
