For the first time, average angular momenta of the ternary fission fragments 100, 102Zr, 106Mo, 144, 146Ba and 138, 140, 142Xe from the α-accompanied fission of 252Cf were obtained from relative intensities of prompt γ-ray transitions with the use of the statistical model calculation. Average values of the angular momenta were compared with the corresponding values for the same fission fragments from the binary fission of 252Cf. Results indicate the presence of a decreasing trend in the average values of angular momenta induced in ternary fission fragments compared to the same binary fission fragments. On the average, the total angular momentum extracted for ternary fission fragments is ∼1.4 ℏ lower than in binary fission. Consequently, results indicate that the mechanism of the ternary α-particles emission may directly effect an induction of angular momenta of fission fragments, and possible scenarios of such mechanisms are discussed. Further, the dependence of the angular momenta of 106Mo and 140Xe on the number of emitted neutrons from correlated pairs of primary fragments was obtained also showing a decreasing dependence of average angular momenta with increasing number of emitted neutrons. Consequences are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Trajectory calculations of the angular distribution of fragments originating from the spontaneous true ternary fission of 252Cf nuclei are performed with allowance for the rotation of the fissile-nucleus axis. This rotation arises upon scission because of the formation of fragment spins despite the conservation of zero total angular momentum at all fission stages. The calculations in question lead to the conclusion that a collinear tripartition is the most probable in spontaneous true ternary fission of 252Cf nuclei. This confirms experimental data, thereby creating the basis that is necessary for obtaining deeper insight into them.  相似文献

Experimental data obtained previously for the energy-angular distribution of neutrons originating from the fission of 252Cf (spontaneous fission) and 235U (thermal-neutron-induced fission) nuclei are analyzed, the angle being measured with respect to the direction of fission-fragment motion. A regularity common to all independent experiments is revealed: at an angle of about 90°, there exists an excess of neutrons (30% for 252Cf and 60% for 235U) that does not admit explanation within the model of neutron emission from fully accelerated fragments. Two possible explanations of this experimental fact—neutron emission during the acceleration process and the existence of an additional source of neutrons (predominantly, prescission neutrons)—are considered. It is shown that the latter conjecture describes the observed features for both nuclei more adequately. The total yield of prescission neutrons and their energy and angular distributions are determined.  相似文献

The energy distributions and relative intensities of protons, deuterons, tritons and α-particles emitted along the fission axis during spontaneous fission of 252Cf were measured simultaneously with both fission fragment energies. The absolute intensity of particles, the mass distribution of fragments, the total kinetic energy and total excitation energy of both fragments were subsequently deduced from the experimental data. Statistical model calculations based on a hypothesis that the polar particles are evaporated from fission fragments have been performed for 252Cf and 236U fission. Although some experimental results agree remarkably well with the evaporation hypothesis, the considered model cannot describe many features of the polar emission phenomenon.  相似文献

The energy of both fission fragments of 244Cm and 252Cf, respectively, was measured in coincidence with the prompt neutrons (see part II). Energy calibration of the surface-barrier detectors was done after the method of Schmitt et al. with the 252Cf fragments. Mean values and rms widths of the mass and energy distributions of both isotopes are calculated and compared with the results of other authors. The total kinetic energy of 244Cm fragments is at least as high as that of 252Cf fragments.  相似文献

A stochastic approach to fission dynamics based on two-dimensional Langevin equations was applied to calculate the anisotropy of the fission fragments angular distribution and average pre-scission neutron multiplicities for the compound nucleus 248Cf formed in the 16O+232Th reactions. Postsaddle nuclear dissipation strength of (12–14) × 1021 s?1 was extracted for Cf nucleus by fitting the results of calculations with the experimental data. Furthermore, it was found that the results of calculations for the anisotropy of the fission fragments angular distribution and pre-scission neutron multiplicities are very sensitive to the magnitude of post-saddle nuclear dissipation.  相似文献

In the present work angular momenta of the fragments corresponding to132Im,g have been deduced from the radiochemically determined independent isomeric yield ratios and statistical model based analysis in neutron induced fission of235U,239Pu and245Cm and spontaneous fission of252Cf. These data along with similar data on134I, reported earlier from this laboratory, bring out the effects of deformed 66n and spherical 82n shells on fragment angular momentum showing also an inverse correlation of the latter with elemental yields. Quantitative estimates of fragment scission point deformation and the coefficient of change of fragment angular momentum with kinetic/excitation energy have been deduced and are seen to be in good agreement with the expected theoretical estimates.  相似文献

The ternary fragmentation of 252Cf for all possible third fragments has been investigated using the recently proposed three-cluster model within a spherical approximation and satisfying the condition A 1 3 \geq A 2 3 \geq A 3 . The most probable ternary configurations in the fission of 252Cf accompanied with all possible third fragment mass numbers from A 3 = 1 to 84 are predicted and their independent and overall relative yields are calculated. The calculations of the properly charge minimized potential energy surface (PES) and yield reveal that even-mass third fragments are more favored than odd ones. In the most probable configuration having the minimum in the potential energy and the maximum in yield, among the three fragments, at least one (or two) of the fragment(s) associates itself with the neutron (or proton) closed shell and in some cases even with the doubly closed shell. The calculated relative yields imply that next to 14C (the heaviest third fragment observed in the spontaneous ternary fission of 252Cf , 34, 36, 38Si , 46, 48Ar , and 48, 50Ca are presenting themselves as the most favoured cases to be observed as the third particle in the spontaneous ternary fission of 252Cf .  相似文献

Alpha particles, tritons, deuterons and protons accompanying 252Cf fission were registered in coincidence with both fission fragments by means of a system containing two-dimensional position-sensitive silicon detectors. Angular distributions, kinetic energy spectra of light charged particles as well as mass distributions of fission fragments in coincidence with light charged particles were measured. The ternary system with a light nucleus between two heavy fragments is assumed to appear from the binary configuration near scission. The formation of a third light nucleus in the binary system is considered. The calculated charge distributions in spontaneous ternary fission of 252Cf and in induced ternary fission of 56Ni are compared with the available experimental data. The gridded ion chamber developed at CBNM provides a powerful tool for measurements of fission fragment angular, kinetic energy and mass distributions with an angular efficiency close to 4π. In the present experiment it is used together with a neutron time-of-flight detector to measure the correlation between neutron emission, fragment angle, mass and energy in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf.  相似文献

High resolution measurements of prompt γ-rays emitted from fission fragments accompanied by light charged particles (LCP) and those emitted from normal binary fission fragments in 252Cf fission were simultaneously carried out using a 30 cm3 Ge(Li) detector. A “sandwich” type of arrangement in the source-detector assembly was used to eliminate Doppler broadening of the γ-ray lines in both cases. About thirty γ-ray lines were assigned to specific fission fragments by comparison with the published results for binary fission, and the ratios of intensities of these γ-ray lines in LCP fission and binary fission were determined. Assuming that 2+ → 0+ transition intensities of doubly even isotopes are a measure of their yields, the yields of several such isotopes in LCP accompanied fission relative to that in binary fission were obtained.  相似文献

Path calculations for fragments of the spontaneous true ternary fission of a 252Cf nucleus are performed. The results are considered from the standpoint of symmetries underlying the generalized nuclear model, and substantiation of the physical picture of the coaxial emission of the fragments during true ternary fission. The calculations are performed with allowance for the ROT effect, which is regarded as a major disturbance in this scenario. The obtained results are in agreement with experimental data.  相似文献

The rare ternary fission (TF) process was hitherto studied mainly by inclusive measurements of the energies and fractional yields of the light charged particles (LCPs) from fission, or by experiments on the angular and energy correlation between LCPs and fission fragments (FF). The present article briefly describes a series of recent correlation measurements on 252Cf(sf) TF that include either the registration of neutrons and γ rays with LCPs and FFs, or the coincident registration of two LCPs. The population of excited states in LCPs has been identified, as well as the formation of neutron-unstable nuclei as short-lived intermediated LCPs, the sequential decay of particle-unstable LCP species into charged particle pairs, and “quaternary” fission with the emission of two charged particles right at scission.  相似文献

The γ-ray spectrum of 252Cf(sf) was measured in the Darmstadt-Heidelberg Crystal Ball spectrometer, with a double ionization chamber mounted inside to detect the fission fragments. The measurement was aimed at a better understanding of an unusual component found in the high-energy region between 3 and 8 MeV, with fragment mass splits near symmetry. This component was proved to be predominantly emitted by the heavier fragment, to reach its highest intensity at a fragment mass split of 132:120, and to have an almost isotropic angular distribution. Calculations with the statistical code CASCADE could reproduce the main features.  相似文献

Results of two different experiments for the study of fission of 252Cf (sf) events in coincidence with neutrons are reported. Two time-of-flight-energy (TOF-E detectors systems have been used. The fission fragment masses were obtained in a double arm coincidence set-up, where the missing mass in the binary decay is used to characterise ternary fission as a collinear cluster tri-partition (CCT). The 3He filled neutron counters have been arranged so as to detect principally neutrons emitted from an isotropic source in the laboratory frame. The fission events connected to the larger experimental neutron multiplicities show a wide range in the missing-mass spectrum, down to $ \alpha$ -particles, carbon and oxygen isotopes. These are linked with magic nuclei in the binary mass-mass correlations of the fission fragments. These neutron gated data are virtually free from background events from scattered binary fission fragments. The ungated spectra are compared to those of the previous data from our previous article (Eur. Phys. J. A. 45, 29 (2010)), the observed structures agree well with the manifestations of the collinear cluster tri-partition of 252Cf (sf) observed earlier. Several new families of the CCT modes are observed.  相似文献

The results of a multiparameter investigation of the 6He emission accompanying the spontaneous fission of 252Cf are presented. The energy spectrum and the yield of the 6He particles are found to be in accord with previous measurements, but their angular distribution is observed to be narrower at 13° ± 3° (FWHM) than the value of ? 32° deduced in a previous investigation.Comparisons of the experimental with published calculated energy spectra and angular distributions for 3H, 4He and 6He particles are shown to provide evidence for a compact scission configuration in ternary fission.  相似文献

Investigation of the 235U(n th, f) reaction using the miniFOBOS double-arm time-of-flight spectrometer of fission fragments confirmed manifestations of the earlier unknown many-body, at least ternary, decay involving almost collinear decay-product escape, which were first observed in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf(sf). The use of variables sensitive to the nuclear charge of fission fragments allowed the reliability of identification of decay events to be increased and new decay modes to be revealed.  相似文献

The properties of neutron emission from fragments formed in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf and in the thermal-neutron-induced fission of 235U are analyzed on the basis of the statistical model of nuclear reactions. Upon extracting the mean excitation energies of fission fragments from experimental data on the mean multiplicities of neutrons, the observables of neutron emission can be described over wide ranges of total kinetic energies and masses. The observed values of mean fragment spins are also reproduced. A method for calculating the isomeric ratios of the independent yields of fission fragments that is based on the cascade-evaporation model of excited-nucleus decay is employed to describe experimental data on 235U fission induced by thermal neutrons and on 238U fission induced by alpha particles. The effect exerted on the isomeric ratios for fission fragments by two different assumptions on the spin distributions of primary-fragment populations—the assumption of the distribution associated with rotational degrees of freedom and the assumption of the distribution associated with the internal degrees of freedom of fully accelerated fragments—is investigated.  相似文献
