A high-birefringent (Hi-Bi) Sagnac loop interferometer for torsion measurement is demonstrated. The sensing head is formed by a section of standard single mode fiber spliced between the output ports of a Hi-Bi coupler at 3 dB. The sensing configuration is characterized in torsion, temperature and strain. The results obtained indicate the viability of a torsion sensor independent of the temperature and strain cross-sensitivity effects. Additionally, in the proposed configuration all measurements are performed without the need of a polarization controller, a device most often required in standard Sagnac loops applied for sensing.  相似文献

The relation between the electromagnetic field state and the torsion angle in a twisted single-mode fiber lightguide (SFL) with linear birefringence is considered for the case where the lightguide is stretched into a straight line. It is shown that this relation is nonholonomic, because of the noncommutativity of two infinitesimal but different changes in the length and torsion of the lightguide. This indicates that the relation between the radiation polarization and the torsion angle in a twisted lightguide is also nonholonomic, and so is the relation between the Pancharatnam geometric-optics phase increment due to the evolution of the light polarization state in an anisotropic optical medium and the SFL torsion angle. 发现用高频CO2激光写入的长周期光纤光栅的谐振波长会随光栅扭曲而线性变化。当顺时针扭曲时,谐振波长向长波方向漂移;逆时针扭曲时,谐振波长向短波方向漂移。该新型扭曲传感器不但能实现对扭曲率的直接测量,而且能判断扭曲方向,因此具有广泛的应用前景。  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a sensitive vector twist sensor based on a small period long period fiber grating(SP-LPFG)fabricated with a femtosecond(fs) laser. The fabricated SP-LPFG is compact in size(2.8 mm) and shows strong polarization dependent peaks in its transmission spectrum due to the vectorial behavior of high-order cladding modes. Twist sensing is realized by monitoring the polarization dependent peaks, since the polarization of input light changes with fiber twist. The proposed sensor can be interrogated by the peak intensity and wavelength, with high twist sensitivity that reaches0.257 d B/deg and 0.115 nm/deg, respectively.  相似文献

We demonstrate experimentally the operation of a linear cavity dual-wavelength fiber laser using a polarization maintaining fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG) as an end mirror that defines two closely spaced laser emission lines. The PM-FBG is also used to tune the laser wavelengths. The total tuning range is ∼8 nm. The laser operates in a stable dual-wavelength mode for an appropriate adjustment of the cavity losses for the generated wavelengths. The high birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber optical loop mirror (FOLM) is used as a tunable spectral filter to adjust the losses. The FOLM adjustment was performed by the temperature control of the Hi-Bi fiber.  相似文献

A high-precision temperature-controlled narrow band-stop fiber Bragg grating(FBG) filter and light source self-calibration technique are proposed for application in the Brillouin optical time domain reflectometer (BOTDR) sensor system.With the proposed application,the BOTDR sensor system maintains good long-term stability and temperature precision through the reduction of the center wavelength drift in the FBG filters and corresponding decrease in the changes in light intensity.The experiment result shows that temperature precision of 1℃and temperature stability of 0.7℃can be achieved in a temperature sensor over a range of 8 km.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate reduction of the polarization sensitivity of a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) from 5 to 0.5 dB by use of 550 m of twisted dispersion-shifted fiber with a twist rate of 8 turns/m (24 turns/beat length). The twisting of the fiber induces circular birefringence and equates the parallel-and the orthogonal-polarization nonlinear phase-shift terms. Experimental results show that the polarization sensitivity monotonically decreases from 5 dB for nontwisted fiber to 0.5 dB for fiber that is twisted at a rate of 8 turns/m, and the twist rate should be more than 4 turns/m (>10 turns/beat length) for emulation of circularly polarized fiber. The minimum polarization sensitivity occurs when the control-pulse polarization is aligned with one of the eigenmodes of the twisted fiber. With the fiber twisted at a rate of 8 turns/m in the NOLM, the nonlinear transmission is 23% at a switching energy of 4 pJ/pulse. Simulations confirm the observed behavior and show that the remaining polarization sensitivity results from energy transfer between orthogonal modes of the signal pulse.  相似文献

We demonstrate that polarization transformation and scattering in adiabatically twisted single-mode birefringent optical fibers is synchronized so that light in one evolving elliptically polarized mode is freely transmitted while orthogonally polarized light is scattered out of the fiber. Thus, linearly polarized radiation initially oriented along the fast axis of the untwisted fiber is transformed to circularly polarized light with the same sense of rotation as the twisted fiber and is scattered out of the fiber. When the fiber twist is first accelerated and then decelerated, the fiber becomes a broadband, low-insertion-loss, linear polarizer.  相似文献

本文提出并论证了一种光纤光栅高速解调的新方法, 利用色散补偿光纤的色散效应, 将光纤光栅的波长漂移信息转换成时域信息. 采用脉冲激光器作为光源, 仅需一个光脉冲可获取单根光纤上所有光纤光栅的反射光脉冲, 再根据各个光栅反射回光脉冲的延时变化即可实现波长的解调. 本方法可用于准分布光纤光栅传感网络解调, 系统采用全光纤结构, 无需波长扫描, 大大提高了解调速度. 本文搭建了测试系统进行实验验证, 对3个光纤光栅组成的准分布式传感网络进行了解调, 实验结果表明, 解调出的光纤光栅布喇格波长线性度好, 解调速度最高可达1 MHz, 采样数据取10次平均后解调线性度可达0.9969, 解调误差约为27.8 pm.  相似文献

利用多模光纤的微弯特性,提出并实现了一种新颖的缠绕式光纤扭角传感装置,其扭角测量范围大于90°.给出了该装置的基本实验原理.研究表明多模光纤的微弯损耗对扭角变化响应非常灵敏,其灵敏度可达1dB/1°.并且实验与理论符合得很好.  相似文献

提出一种基于双折射晶体劈的偏振态实时测量方法,并将该方法用于扭曲向列型液晶透射光的偏振态分析,实现了液晶分子平均指向矢的动态测量.利用基于晶体劈的偏光干涉法将待测光的偏振参量编码为两组干涉条纹,通过对干涉条纹定位实现偏振态的实时测量;再根据液晶指向矢的倾角、扭转角与透射光偏振态之间的关系,推算出液晶分子平均指向矢的动态信息.本实验测量液晶指向矢的速度为每秒5次,液晶平均指向矢的倾角、扭转角的测量准确度达到0.2°.本文研究为液晶分子平均指向矢的动态测量提供了一种有效途径.  相似文献

基于所研制的侧漏型光子晶体光纤,提出并构建了出一种同时检测扭转角度 和扭转方向的高灵敏度Sagnac干涉仪型光纤扭转传感器.顺时针扭转时, 传感器传输谱向短波长方向偏移;逆时针扭转,向长波长方向偏移. 对传感器扭转特性的实验研究结果表明,构成Sagnac干涉仪的侧漏型光子晶体光纤的长度, 对扭转敏感系数和扭转角度测量范围起着决定性作用.当光纤长度较短时, 扭转传感器具有较大的扭转灵敏度,但扭转角度测量范围较小;光纤长度增加时,扭转灵敏度减小, 扭转角度测量范围增大.当构成Sagnac干涉仪的侧漏型光子晶体光纤长度为14.85 cm时, 传感器的扭转敏感系数可达到0.9354 nm/(°),扭转角度测量范围为-90°—90°; 光纤长度为32 cm时,最大扭转敏感系数降为0.2132 nm/(°), 扭转角度测量范围扩展至-180°—180°. 采用二维测量矩阵法可以有效排除温度对扭转角度的测量的影响. 关键词: 光纤传感器 侧漏型光子晶体光纤 扭转传感器 Sagnac干涉仪  相似文献

A novel tunable microwave photonic notch filter using a phase-modulated dual-wavelength fiber laser is presented. A stable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with a linear cavity is formed by a polarization-maintaining uniform fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG) and a polarization maintaining linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (PM-LCFBG), both of which were fabricated on a high-birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber. It is found that a stable room-temperature dual-wavelength operation can be achieved due to the presence of two reflection peaks arising from the orthogonal states of polarization (SOP) of the PM-FBG. Experimental results show stable dual-wavelength lasing operation with a wavelength separation of ∼0.36 nm and a large optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of over 40 dB under room temperature. The dual-wavelength fiber laser is combined with a phase modulator and a segment of single-mode fiber (SMF) as a dispersive device to form a tunable microwave photonic notch filter. By stretching the PM-FBG to tune the wavelength separation of the dual-wavelength fiber laser, a tunable microwave photonic notch filter with various free spectral ranges (FSRs) and a rejection ratio greater than 35 dB was developed.  相似文献

对扭转高圆双折射光纤中光的偏民变化作了分析,提出用移动侧向变压力法测量高圆双折射光纤中的圆双折射,并在实验上用这种方法对扭转光纤效益作了测量。得到的测量结果与计算值(在已知光导转率下)相对误差在2.4%之内。这一方法为高圆双折射光纤的无损检测提供了另一途径。  相似文献

Sagnac fiber optic current sensor (S-FOCS) is a kind of optical interferometer based on Sagnac structure, optical polarization states of sensing light wave in Sagnac fiber optic current sensor are limited. However, several factors induce optical polarization error, and non-ideal polarized light waves cause the interference signal crosstalk in sensor, including polarizer, quarter-wave retarder, splice angular, birefringence and so on. With these errors, linearly polarized light wave in PM fiber and circularly polarized light wave in sensing fiber become elliptically polarized light wave, then, nonreciprocal phase shift induced by magnetic field of the current is interrupted by wrong polarization state. To clarify characteristics of optical polarization error in fiber optic current sensor, we analyze the evolution process of random optical polarization state, linear optical polarization state and circular optical polarization state in Sagnac fiber optic current sensor by using Poincare sphere, then, build optical polarization error models by using Jones matrix. Based on models of polarization state in Sagnac fiber optic current sensor, we investigate the influence of several main error factors on optical polarization error characteristics theoretically, including extinction ratio in polarizer, phase delay in quarter-wave retarder, splice angular between quarter-wave retarder and polarization maintaining fiber. Finally, we simulate and quantify nonreciprocal phase shift to be detected in fiber optic current sensor related with optical polarization errors. In the end, we demonstrate S-FOCS in test. The results show that transfer matrix errors are induced by inaccurate polarization properties during polarization state conversion, then, the stability and accuracy of the S-FOCS are affected, and it is important to control the polarization properties at each step of the polarization state conversion precisely.  相似文献

The optical wavemeter implemented with a polarization interferometer is simple and accurate. However, the wavemeter is very sensitive to the intensity of the input light. If the light is modulated or its intensity through the polarizer is varied due to a change of polarization state, the measurement error is increased and, in turn, the resolution and bandwidth are limited. In this study, the source of error, which is generated by a change of light intensity, is analyzed, compensated, and experimentally demonstrated. The measurement error due to fluctuated intensity can be reduced by compensating the output offset values of photo detectors. After compensation, the output errors are reduced to ±0.1 nm from ±1.85 nm at 1540 nm, ±0.12 nm from ±1.6 nm at 1550 nm, and ±0.31 nm from ±0.66 nm at 1570 nm.  相似文献

针对蓝相液晶显示器中的暗态漏光特性, 采用时域有限差分方法模拟计算了胆甾相液晶的平面态和焦锥态以及蓝相II态液晶的透射和反射特性, 得到了它们在正交和平行偏振片之间的漏光, 并提出了计算等效旋光能力的公式以比较它们的旋光能力. 通过对比焦锥态和蓝相液晶的旋光能力和漏光特性发现, 采用焦锥态替代蓝相液晶而得到良好的暗态特性是一种可行的方法. 通过研究它们的布拉格反射特性, 得知蓝相液晶的布拉格反射与平面态相似, 但反射强度小, 焦锥态无明显的布拉格反射特性.  相似文献
