Using the next-to-leading order QCD corrected effective Hamiltonian, scale and scheme independent Wilson coefficients, we have estimated the branching ratio and CP violating asymmetries for the decay mode in the Standard Model using the framework of generalized factorization. The effects of nonfactorizable contributions are taken into account by treating the effective no. of colors as a free parameter. The form factors are evaluated in the nonrelativistic quark model. The estimated branching ratio is found to be which lies below the current experimental upper limit and the CP violating asymmetries are and . An experimental investigation of the structure of identified quark and gluon jets is presented. Observables related to both the global and internal structure of jets are measured; this allows for tests of QCD over a wide range of transverse momentum scales. The observables include distributions of jet-shape variables, the mean and standard deviation of the subjet multiplicity distribution and the fragmentation function for charged particles. The data are compared with predictions of perturbative QCD as well as QCD-based Monte Carlo models. In certain kinematic regions the measurements are sensitive mainly to perturbatively calculable effects, allowing for a test of QCD. The comparisons are also extended into regions where nonperturbative effects become large, and in this way the transition from hard to soft QCD is investigated. It is found that by including leading and next-to-leading logarithmic contributions in the QCD predictions, the agreement with the data can be extended to lower transverse momentum scales, especially for gluon jets. Parity-odd asymmetries in the decay angular distribution of a W boson produced with a hard jet in pp[over ] collisions arise only from QCD rescattering effects. If observed, these asymmetries will provide a first demonstration that perturbative QCD calculation is valid for the absorptive part of scattering amplitudes. We propose a simple observable to measure these asymmetries and perform realistic Monte Carlo simulations at energies reached at the Fermilab Tevatron. It is shown that the Tevatron run II should provide sufficient statistics to test the prediction.  相似文献

The first moments of polarized valence PDFs, responsible for the respective contributions to the nucleon spin, are extracted in NLO QCD from the data of COMPASS and HERMES collaborations on the semi-inclusive difference asymmetries. To this end the new method of QCD analysis (alternative to the usual global fit analysis) is applied. Using the obtained results on valence PDFs the first moments of polarized sea PDFs are reconstructed. They turn out surprisingly small: compatible with zeros within the errors.  相似文献

The interference of electromagnetic and weak production mechanisms for lepton pair production may give rise to several effects which violate parity and charge symmetry. These effects are generally of the order of 1% for dilepton masses of 10 GeV. The theoretical calculations presented here show that experimental studies of these asymmetries may be useful. In particular, measurements of these asymmetries in collisions of pions with polarized protons may lead to a greatly enhanced understanding of the polarization distribution of quarks in a polarized proton. The polarization structure of the d quark is shown to be of special interest. Measurement of the parity-violating asymmetries in proton-polarized proton collisions may prove to be a sensitive probe of the flavor symmetry of the proton antiquark sea. Analysis of the parity conserving charge asymmetry (which is predicted to occur in collisions of unpolarized hadrons) allows a unique further test of the Drell-Yan model for lepton pair production, as well as of our understanding of weak interactions. The above asymmetries mentioned are computed within the framework of the parton model. The focus of this work is on the asymmetries calculated with the inclusion of first-order perturbative QCD effects. The asymmetries are calculated in a differential form for values of the dilepton transverse momentum large compared with the typical (~1 GeV) scale of nonperturbative effects, and also in a form in which this transverse momentum has been integrated over. Corrections to the parton model results, which can be large, show rather different structure for the various asymmetries.A parity-violating asymmetry which may occur in collisions of unpolarized hadrons is also discussed. This asymmetry is very sensitive to the nonperturbative structure of hadrons, and is estimated to be approximately 0.01% for dilepton masses of 10 GeV.  相似文献

The –expansion of QCD suggests large flavor asymmetries of the polarized antiquark distributions in the nucleon. This is confirmed by model calculations in the large– limit (chiral quark–soliton model), which give sizable results for and . We compute the contributions of these flavor asymmetries to the spin asymmetries in hadron production in semi-inclusive deep–inelastic scattering. We show that the large flavor asymmetries predicted by the chiral quark–soliton model are consistent with the recent HERMES data for spin asymmetries in charged hadron production. In this article we review the present understanding of azimuthal and single spin asymmetries for inclusive and semi-inclusive particle production in unpolarized and polarized hadronic collisions at high energy and moderately large transverse momentum. After summarizing the experimental information available, we discuss and compare the main theoretical approaches formulated in the framework of perturbative QCD. We then present in some detail a generalization of the parton model with inclusion of spin and intrinsic transverse momentum effects. In this context, we extensively discuss the phenomenology of azimuthal and single spin asymmetries for several processes in different kinematical configurations. A comparison with the predictions of other approaches, when available, is also given. We finally emphasize some relevant open points and challenges for future theoretical and experimental investigation.  相似文献

Using the form factors calculated both in lattice QCD and HQET, we analyze the branching ratio, double- lepton polarization asymmetries and averaged double-lepton polarization asymmetries of ∧b→∧μ+μ- decay in the 2HDM III, respectively. Combining the experimental constrains on the 2HDM III parameters, we take two set of representative parameter spaces in our calculations. For the branching ratio of ∧b→∧μ+μ- decay, considering the uncertainties of the form factors and input parameters, we find the results of both SM and 2HDM III can satisfy the current experimental data in the framework of lattice QCD, but not in HQET. Then we calculate the double-lepton polarization asymmetries Pij and their averaged values ij>, we find the double-lepton polarization asymmetries PLT, PNN, and PTT are sensitive to the 2HDM III. However, PLN, PNL, PNT, and PTN show the opposite results. The contribution of the 2HDM III to their averaged values have similar results.  相似文献

A detailed review of the current state of investigations into polarized deep inelastic scattering (DIS) is presented. Special attention is given to the methods of the QCD analysis of experimental data on these processes and to the methods of extrapolation of polarized structure functions and polarized quark distributions in the regions inaccessible to current experiments. In the case of pure inclusive processes, the QCD analysis of all worldwide data, including the latest COMPASS data, is presented in detail. Special attention is given to such important components of the nucleon-spin problem as the polarized strangeness and polarized gluon distribution. The features of SIDIS processes are considered; in particular, the role of fragmentation functions in the analysis of the semi-inclusive data is discussed. The methods of extracting the fragmentation functions from experimental data are considered in detail, and the corresponding results are presented. The results of analysis of the existing semi-inclusive polarized data both in the QCD leading order and in the next-to-leading order are considered. Special attention is given to non-standard, so-called difference asymmetries, which make it possible to minimize the dependence of results of analysis on the fragmentation functions. The current methods of QCD analysis of semi-inclusive polarized data are critically reviewed. An alternative method of QCD analysis of semi-inclusive data is presented for next-to-leading order QCD. Advantages of the method in practical applications are illustrated by the example of analysis of the HERMES data.  相似文献

There are different approaches for the hadronic B decay calculations, recently. In this paper, we upgrade three of them, namely factorization, QCD factorization and the perturbative QCD approach based on k T factorization, using new parameters and full wave functions. Although they get similar results for many of the branching ratios, the direct CP asymmetries predicted by them are different, which can be tested by recent experimental measurements of B factories.  相似文献

The possibilities to determine the flavor structure of the polarized sea (antiquark) distributions of the nucleon via vector boson production at high energy polarized hadron–hadron colliders, such as the Relativistic Heavy–Ion Collider (RHIC), are studied in detail. In particular the perturbative stability of the expected asymmetries in two representative models for the (un)broken flavor structure are investigated by confronting perturbative QCD leading order predictions of the expected asymmetries with their next–to–leading order counterparts. The original results for the baryon-pion couplings in the large QCD can be understood in a simpler way in the Hartree-Fock picture. The large relation and its correction between the heavy baryon-meson coupling and the light baryon-meson coupling are emphasized. Application to the baryon- meson interactions is straightforward. The implications of recent experimental result for the strong coupling constants of the heavy baryon chiral Lagrangian are discussed. A comprehensive survey is presented of the polarization structure of the leading order QCD processes for the production of jets at largep t in photon-photon collisions which are the result of colliding positrons. Results are given for asymmetries. It is shown that by separating events with various jet topologies it is possible to investigate different aspects of polarization and QCD. For instance the four anf three jet process asymmetries are found to be sensitive to the relative magnitudes of the perturbative anf non-perturbative components of the photon structure function. A discussion is given of the usefulness of polarization in separating the two gluon jet subprocess. It is concluded that such experiments could be very useful in understanding QCD and the strong interactions.  相似文献

QCD predictions for asymmetries in largep T polarized photon reactions on a polarized target are given. Taking cross-section differences is shown to yield new tests of QCD. Double inclusive cross section measurements provide a direct way to measure the distribution function of polarized gluons in the proton.  相似文献

We study Pomeron-Odderon interference effects giving rise to charge and single-spin asymmetries in diffractive electroproduction of a pair. We calculate these asymmetries, originating from both longitudinal and transverse polarizations of the virtual photon, in the framework of QCD and in the Born approximation, in a kinematical domain accessible to HERA experiments. We predict a sizable charge asymmetry with a characteristic dependence on the invariant mass of the pair, which makes this observable very important for establishing the magnitude of the Odderon exchange in hard processes. The single-spin asymmetry turns out to be rather small. We briefly discuss future improvements of our calculations and their possible effects on the results. The global fit analysis of all published data on DIS and semi-inclusive DIS (SIDIS) asymmetries is performed in the next to leading (NLO) QCD order. The respective parameterization on polarized PDFs is constructed. The especial attention is paid to the impact of novel SIDIS data on the polarized distributions of light sea and strange quarks as well as on the polarized gluon distributions. The first moments of these distributions entering the nucleon spin are found to be surprisingly small quantities. The alternative direct (free of any fitting procedure) method of NLO QCD analysis is elaborated. Method is especially important for analysis of SIDIS data because it allows to avoid the problems arising in the conventional fitting procedure: functional arbitrariness at initial scale and ambiguities in the error band calculation. Within the alternative method the central values and uncertainties of the measured asymmetries directly propagate to the central values and uncertainties of the polarized PDFs we are interested in. The method is applied to all existing SIDIS data on pion production for an estimation in NLO QCD of the valence and sea quark contributions to the proton spin. As a result one arrives at the conclusion that, contrary to the valence contributions, the sea contributions to the proton spin are compatible with zero within the errors.  相似文献

Total and differential cross sections for high energy and small momentum transfer elastic hadron-hadron scattering are studied in QCD using a functional integral approach. The hadronic amplitudes are governed by vacuum expectation values of lightlike Wegner-Wilson loops, for which a matrix cumulant expansion is derived. The cumulants are evaluated within the framework of the Minkowskian version of the model of the stochastic vacuum. Using the second cumulant, we calculate elastic differential cross sections for hadron-hadron scattering. The agreement with experimental data is good. We recalculate the proton Dirac form factor based on the perturbative QCD factorization theorem, which includes Sudakov suppression. The evolution scale of the proton wave functions and the infrared cutoffs for the Sudakov re-summation are carefully chosen such that the soft divergences from large coupling constants are diminished and perturbative QCD predictions are stabilized. We find that the King–Sachrajda model for the proton wave function leads to results which are in better agreement with experimental data than those from the Chernyak–Zhitnitsky wave function. Within the heavy quark limit and the hierarchy approximation Λqcd << Md << Mb,we analyze the B→DOD-O and Bs→ DOD-O decays, which occur purely via annihilation type diagrams. As a rough estimate,we calculate their branching ratios and CP asymmetries in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach. The branching ratio of B→ DOD-O is about 3.8×10-5 that is just below the latest experimental upper limit. The branching ratio of Bs→ DOD-O is about 6.8 × 10-4,which could be measured in LHC-b.From the calculation,it is found that this branching ratio is not sensitive to the weak phase angle γ.In these two decay modes, there exist CP asymmetries because of the interference between weak and strong interaction. However, these asymmetries are too small to be measured easily.  相似文献

An up-to-date global QCD analysis of high energy lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron interactions is performed to better determine the gluon and quark parton distributions in the nucleon. Improved experimental data on inclusive jet production, in conjunction with precise deep inelastic scattering data, place good constraints on the gluon over a wide range of x; while new data on asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes contribute to better determine the d/u ratio. Comparisons with results of other recent global analyses are made, and the differences are described. Open issues and the general problem of determining the uncertainties of parton distributions are discussed. Received: 7 April 1999 / Published online: 21 December 1999  相似文献
