We calculate using diagrammatic perturbation theory in the two-loop approximation, the specific heat exponent for the classical N-vector model in a random external field for spatial dimension (D) lying between four and six. We have studied the ionization of Rydberg-excited xenon atoms in THz-laser fields and by quantum dynamical calculations. The experimental threshold laser field strength for 10% ionization probability follows an n*-1.68 (1.04 THz) dependence (n* effective principal quantum number) with additional weak resonance structures and shows that ionization does not occur by a Landau-Zener mechanism. At scaled frequencies of to 5.6 the simulated threshold fields for ionization in oscillatory fields show a dependence on the principal quantum number n of n-4.1 to n-1.35. We point out the existence of an alternative algebraic structure in Yang-Baxter algebra with trigonometric R-matrix, which appears to be the generalization of the Yangian in Yang-Baxter algebras with rational R-matrix and which is described most naturally by q-commutators. The importance of Hund's rule coupling for the stabilization of itinerant ferromagnetism is investigated within a two-band Hubbard model. The magnetic phase diagram is calculated by finite-temperature quantum Monte-Carlo simulations within the dynamical mean-field theory. Ferromagnetism is found in a broad range of electron fillings whereas antiferromagnetism exists only near half filling. The possibility of orbital ordering at quarter filling is also analyzed. We investigate under which circumstances extended Hubbard models, including bond-charge, exchange, and pair-hopping terms, are invariant under gl (2,1) superalgebra. This happens for a two-parameter Hamiltonian which includes as particular cases the t - J, the EKS and the one-parameter BGLZ Hamiltonians, all integrable in one dimension. We show that the two parameter Hamiltonian can be recasted as the sum of the BGLZ Hamiltonian plus the graded permutation operator of electronic states on neighbouring sites. In the Nagel-Schreckenberg model of vehicular traffic on single-lane highways vehicles are modelled as particles which hop forward from one site to another on a one dimensional lattice and the inter-particle interactions mimic the manner in which the real vehicles influence each other's motion. In this model the number of empty lattice sites in front of a particle is taken to be a measure of the corresponding distance-headway (DH). The time-headway (TH) is defined as the time interval between the departures (or arrivals) of two successive particles recorded by a detector placed at a fixed position on the model highway. We investigate the effects of spatial inhomogeneities of the highway (static hindrances) on the DH and TH distributions in the steady-state of this model. We discuss the applicability of -dependent field renormalization as a means of renormalizing away the apparent violation of Hara's theorem observed in the quark model. It is pointed out that a result totally analogous to the violation of Hara's theorem is predicted by the quark model also for neutral baryons. For neutral baryons, however, such a result cannot be renormalized away. This proves that -dependent renormalization does not provide a proper way for a hadron-level understanding of the violation of Hara's theorem observed in the quark model.
