We derive a formula of the nonadiabatic noncyclic Pancharatnam phase for a mesoscopic circuit with coupled inductors and capacitors. It shows that, because of coupling effect, the circuit is in squeezed quantum state initially, and the time evolution of Pancharatnam phase exhibits an oscillation in a complex way. Especially we find that when the capacity of the coupled capacitors is larger than that of other ones in the circuit, with the variation of time Pancharatnam phase becomes nearly periodic square-wave, which perhaps can provide a new approach for the realization of quantum logic gate.  相似文献

We point out that the time-dependent gauge transformation technique may be effective in investigating the nonadiabatic geometric phase of a subsystem in a composite system. As an example, we consider two uniaxially coupled spin -1/2 particles with one of particles driven by rotating magnetic field. The influences of coupling and precession frequency of the magnetic field on geometric phase are also discussed in detail.  相似文献

We propose one possible mechanism for an anomalous metallic phase appearing frequently in two spatial dimensions, that is, local pairing fluctuations. Introducing a pair-rotor representation to decompose bare electrons into collective pairing excitations and renormalized electrons, we derive an SU(2) gauge theory of the Hubbard model as an extended version of its U(1) gauge theory. Since our effective SU(2) gauge theory admits two kinds of collective bosons corresponding to pair excitations and density fluctuations, respectively, an intermediate phase appears naturally between the spin liquid Mott insulator and Fermi liquid metal of the U(1) gauge theory, characterized by softening of density-fluctuation modes as the Fermi liquid, but gapping of pair-excitation modes. We show that this intermediate phase is identified with an anomalous metallic phase because there are no electronlike quasiparticles although it is metallic.  相似文献

We introduce a U(1) lattice gauge theory with dual gauge fields and study its phase structure. This system is partly motivated by unconventional superconductors like extended s-wave and d  -wave superconductors in the strongly-correlated electron systems and also studies of the t–JtJ model in the slave-particle representation. In this theory, the “Cooper-pair” (or RVB spinon-pair) field is put on links of a cubic lattice due to strong on-site repulsion between original electrons in contrast to the ordinary s  -wave pair field on sites. This pair field behaves as a gauge field dual to the U(1) gauge field coupled with the hopping of electrons or quasi-particles of the t–JtJ model, holons and spinons. By Monte Carlo simulations we study this lattice gauge model and find a first-order phase transition from the normal state to the Higgs (superconducting) phase. Each gauge field works as a Higgs field for the other gauge field. This mechanism requires no scalar fields in contrast to the ordinary Higgs mechanism. An explicit microscopic model is introduced, the low-energy effective theory of which is viewed as a special case of the present model.  相似文献

Confinement in a pure gauge theory at non-zero temperature may be discussed in terms of an order parameter which transforms under a global symmetry group, the center of the gauge group. Integrating out all degrees of freedom except this order parameter generates an effective scalar field theory for the order parameter, globally invariant under the center symmetry. We argue that the effective theory possesses only short-range couplings, and hence that the finite-temperature confinement phase transition (when continuous) is accompanied by long-range fluctuations only in the order parameter. Universality ideas then lead to predictions for the critical properties of U(1), Z(N), and SU(N) gauge theories for all dimensionalities of space-time. An explicit renormalization-group calculation is presented for the U(1) gauge theory in (2 + 1) dimensions, the results of which fit the general picture.  相似文献

We present an overview of polarized neutron experiments observing SU(2) phases. The first experimental separation of geometric and dynamical phases, the explicit verification of Pauli anticommutation and the first observation of interference amplitudes and phases in noncyclic evolutions are described. These experiments elucidate the physics of phases and phase jumps propounded by the Pancharatnam connection.  相似文献

In mid-1950s, Pancharatnam [1] encountered the geometric phase associated with the evolution along a geodesic triangle on the Poincaré sphere. We generalize his 3-vertex phase and employ it as the fundamental building block, to geometrically construct a general ray-space expression for geometric phase. In terms of a reference ray used to specify geometric phase, we delineate clear geometric meanings for gauge transformations and gauge freedom, which are generally regarded as mere mathematical abstractions.  相似文献

This study of U(1) gauge field theory on the kappa-deformed Minkowski space-time extends previous work on gauge field theories on this type of noncommutative space-time.We construct the conserved gauge current, fix part of the ambiguities in the Seiberg-Witten map and obtain an effective U(1) action invariant under the action of the undeformed Poincare group. We describe anon-abelian Berry phase in polarization optics, suggested by an analogy due to Nityananda between boosts in special relativity and the effect of elliptic dichroism on polarized light. The analogy permits a simple optical realization of the non-abelian gauge field describing Thomas rotation. We also show how Thomas rotation can be understood geometrically on the Poincaré sphere in terms of the Pancharatnam phase.  相似文献

A new mechanism to introduce the mass of U(1) gauge field in supcrsymmctric U(1) gauge theory is discussed. The modelhas the strict local U(1) gauge symmetry and supersymmetry.Because we introduce two vector superfields simultaneously, the model contains a massive U(1) gauge field as well as a massless U(1) gauge field.  相似文献

Properties of vacua of the SU(2) gauge theory containing massless and massive fermions are investigated within the one-loop approximation. As a result of a condensation of composite scalar made of gauge fields, some gauge fields acquire a mass and the original SU(2) gauge symmetry is suggested to breake down to U (1). We evaluate the effective potential for the constant magnetic field and then extract the so-called dielectric permeability κ from it. The phase is called paramagnetism for positive κ, perfect paramagnetism for vanishing κ and ferromagnetism for negative κ. The choice of a favorable phase is determined by the value of the coupling constant and the number and the mass of fermions. The perfect paramagnetic phase is most precisely studied. It is shown that solitons with non-zero charges carry divergent energies. Then, the electric flux around the charge is shown to be squeezed into a string in that phase.  相似文献

We investigate the continuum limit of a compact formulation of the lattice U(1) gauge theory in 4 dimensions using a nonperturbative gauge-fixed regularization. We find clear evidence of a continuous phase transition in the pure gauge theory for all values of the gauge coupling (with gauge symmetry restored). When probed with quenched staggered fermions with U(1) charge, the theory clearly has a chiral transition for large gauge couplings. We identify the only possible region in the parameter space where a continuum limit with nonperturbative physics may appear.  相似文献

Isotope effects (IEs) are powerful tools to probe directly the dependence of many physical properties on lattice dynamics. In this Letter we investigate the onset of anomalous IEs in the spinless Holstein model by employing the dynamical mean field theory. We show that the isotope coefficients of the electron effective mass and of the dressed phonon frequency are sizable also far away from the polaronic crossover and mark the importance of nonadiabatic lattice fluctuations. We draw a nonadiabatic phase diagram in which we identify a novel crossover, not related to polaronic features, where the IEs attain their largest anomalies.  相似文献

The axial-vector current of Dirac-Kähler fermions on the lattice is studied. We consider a U(1) gauge theory in two dimensions as well as an SU(N) gauge theory in four dimensions. Using a short-distance expansion of the fermion propagator in an external gauge field, we show that the correct anomaly is reproduced in the continuum limit.  相似文献

Recently a new type of quadratic gauge was introduced in QCD in which the degrees of freedom are suggestive of a phase of abelian dominance. In its simplest form it is also free of Gribov ambiguity. However this gauge is not suitable for usual perturbation theory. The finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation is a method established to interrelate generating functionals for different effective versions of gauge fixed field theories. In this paper we propose a FFBRST transformation suitable for transforming the theory in the new quadratic gauge into the standard Lorenz gauge Faddeev–Popov version of the effective lagrangian. The task is made interesting by the fact that the effective lagrangian is invariant under two different BRST transformations which leads to suitable extension of the previous procedures to accomplish the required result. We are thus able to identify a field redefinition to go from a non-perturbative phase of QCD to perturbative QCD.  相似文献

We study the geometry of determinant line bundles associated with Dirac operators on compact odd-dimensional manifolds. Physically, these arise as (local) vacuum line bundles in quantum gauge theory. We give a simplified derivation of the commutator anomaly formula using a construction based on noncyclic trace extensions and associated nonmultiplicative renormalized determinants.  相似文献

We study the physics of hard-core bosons with unfrustrated hopping (t) and nearest-neighbor repulsion (V) on the three dimensional pyrochlore lattice. At half-filling, we demonstrate that the small V/t superfluid state eventually becomes unstable at large enough V/t to an unusual insulating state which displays no broken lattice translation symmetry. Equal time and static density correlators in this insulator are well described by a mapping to electric field correlators in the Coulomb phase of a U(1) lattice gauge theory, allowing us to identify this insulator with a U(1) fractionalized Mott-insulating state. The possibility of observing this phase in suitably designed atom-trap experiments with ultracold atoms is also discussed, as are specific experimental signatures.  相似文献
