This paper studies the two dimensional flow of an electrically conducting fluid which is an optically thin gray gas past a stationary vertical infinite plate in the presence of radiation. It is assumed that the temperature of the plate and the suction at the plate are constant. The presence of the induced magnetic field is also taken into account. Numerical solutions for the velocity and the induced magnetic field are derived and the effects of the radiation parameter are discussed.  相似文献

This paper consideres the behavior of a semi-infinite ice cover on the surface of an ideal incompressible fluid of finite depth under the action of a load moving with constant velocity along the edge of the cover at some distance from it. The ice cover is modeled by a thin elastic plate of constant thickness. In a moving coordinate system, the deflection of the plate is assumed to be steady. An analytic solution of the problem is obtained using the Wiener–Hopf technique. The wave forces, the deflection of the plate, and the elevation of the free surface of the fluid at different velocities of the load are investigated.  相似文献

Periodic and solitary gravity-capillary waves propagating at a constant velocity at the surface of a fluid of finite depth are considered. The vorticity in the fluid is assumed to be constant. Analytical solutions are presented for waves of small amplitude. For waves of large amplitude, numerical solutions are computed by boundary integral equation methods. The results unify previous findings for irrotational gravity capillary waves and gravity waves with constant vorticity. In particular solitary waves with oscillatory tails and branches of solutions which exist only for waves of large amplitude are found.  相似文献

The problem of the dissipative heating of a fluid under a solid plate moving at constant velocity is considered. Dissipative heating is associated with the viscous friction of the layers of fluid, whose velocity outside the region of disturbances is zero. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to depend exponentially on the temperature. The temperature of the plate is assumed to be constant.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 53–57, March–April, 1985.  相似文献

This paper considers the extended classical Blasius and Sakiadis equations, by considering a uniform free stream parallel to a fixed or moving flat plate, which has more practical significance. It is assumed that the plate is subjected to a constant heat flux, and moves in the same or opposite direction to the free stream. The resulting system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically using a finite-difference method. Numerical results are obtained for the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles for some values of the governing parameters, namely the velocity ratio parameter and the Prandtl number. The results indicate that dual solutions exist when the plate and the free stream move in the opposite directions.  相似文献

An analytical study of viscous dissipation effect on the fully developed forced convection Couette flow through a parallel plate channel partially filled with porous medium is presented. A uniform heat flux is imposed at the moving plate while the fixed plate is insulated. In the fluid-only region the flow field is governed by Navier–Stokes equation while the Brinkman-extended Darcy law relationship is considered in the fully saturated porous medium. The interface conditions are formulated with an empirical constant β due to the stress jump boundary condition. Fluid properties are assumed to be constant and the longitudinal heat conduction is neglected. A closed-form solution for the velocity and temperature distributions and also the Nusselt number in the channel are obtained and the viscous dissipation effect on these profiles is briefly investigated.  相似文献

An approximate solution to the problem of flow of a viscous incompressible dissipative fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate embedded in a porous medium is presented here. The plate temperature is assumed to be oscillating about a constant mean temperature. Mean velocity and mean temperature, the transient velocity and temperature profiles are shown graphically. The mean skin-friction and the mean rate of heat transfer are also shown graphically. The expressions for the amplitude and the phase of the skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer are derived and their numerical values are listed in Tables. The effects of different parameters governing the unsteady flow are discussed. Received on 23 November 1998  相似文献

Flow instability due to oscillatory modes of disturbances in a horizontal dendrite layer during alloy solidification is investigated under an external constraint of rotation. The flow in the dendrite layer, which is modeled as flow in a porous layer and with the inertial effects included, is assumed to rotate about the vertical axis at a constant angular velocity. The investigation is an extension of the work in Riahi (On stationary and oscillatory modes of flow instablity in a rotating porous layer during alloy solidification. J. Porous Media, 6, 177–187, 2003), which was for the case in the absence of the inertial effects. Results of the stability analyses indicate, in particular, that the Coriolis effect can enhance the physical domain for the oscillatory flow, while the inertial effect tends to reduce such domain. Sufficiently strong inertial effect can eliminate presence of the oscillatory mode only for the rotation rate beyond some value. The effect of interaction between the local volume fraction of solid and the flow associated with the Coriolis term was found to be stabilizing.  相似文献

The unsteady natural convective flow of an incompressible viscous fluid near a vertical plate has been considered. It is assumed that the bounding plate has a ramped temperature profile. The exact solutions of the energy and momentum equations, under the usual Boussinesq approximation, have been obtained in closed form. There are two different solutions for the fluid velocity—one valid for the fluids of Prandtl numbers different from unity, and the other for which the Prandtl number is unity. The variations of the fluid temperature, velocity as well as the Nusselt number and wall skin friction have been presented graphically. The natural convection near a ramped temperature plate has also been compared with the flow near a plate with constant temperature.  相似文献

Dynamics of a ball moving in gravitational field and colliding with a moving table is considered. The motion of the limiter is assumed as periodic with piecewise constant velocity. It is assumed that the table moves up with a constant velocity and then goes down with another constant velocity. The Poincaré map describing evolution from an impact to the next impact is derived. Several classes of solutions are computed in analytical form.  相似文献

The unsteady Couette flow of an isothermal incompressible micropolar fluid between two infinite parallel plates is investigated. The motion of the fluid is produced by a time-dependent impulsive motion of the lower plate while the upper plate is set at rest. A linear slip, of Basset type, boundary condition on both plates is used. Two particular cases are discussed; in the first case we have assumed that the plate moves with constant speed and in the second case we have supposed that the plate oscillates tangentially. The solution of the problem is obtained in the Laplace transform domain. The inversion of the Laplace transform is carried out numerically using a numerical method based on Fourier series expansion. Numerical results are represented graphically for the velocity, microrotation, and volume flux for various values of the time, slip and micropolar parameters.  相似文献

An examination is made of the thermal state of a plane layer of gray gas injected into a turbulent stream of high temperature gas flowing over a permeable flat plate.Similarity-type formulations of problems are encountered both in examination of flow near a stagnation point, and also in analysis of the lifting of the boundary layer by intense injection through a porous plate [1]. The examination described relates to the following idealized formulation of the problem (Fig. la).In a plane layer of gray absorbing medium, formed by plane-parallel diffusely radiating surfaces (1-porous plate; 2-boundary of high temperature turbulent gas stream), heat transfer is accomplished by radiation and convection of the layer normal to the surfaces and by molecular heat conduction. All the physical and optical properties of the medium and of the boundary surfaces are assumed to be constant, independent of temperature. The temperature of the wetted surface of the specimen and also that of the fictitious surface determining the upper bound of the lift-off region, are given. Also assumed given is the velocity of the injected medium, which is constant throughout the entire lift-off layer. This idealization appreciably facilitates our examination without in principle changing its features.A very simplified examination of this problem was given in [2]. The special case of a medium with low optical thickness was examined in [3,4].The problem was examined in [5] under the assumption that molecular heat conduction in the medium is negligibly small. In the formulation considered the generalized energy equation has the form  相似文献

In the present study, the velocity profile and pressure gradient of the unsteady state unidirectional flow of a Voigt fluid in a circular duct with different prescribed volume flow rate are investigated. The flow motion in the duct is induced by a prescribed inlet volume flow rate which varies with time. Based on the flow conditions prescribed, two basic flow situations are solved; these are a suddenly started, and a constant accelerated, flow respectively. These two results are then applied to a practical case that is a trapezoidal motion which contains three phases of piston motion, the constant acceleration from the rest to a fixed velocity, then maintaining at this velocity, following with the constant deceleration to a stop. In addition, oscillatory flow is also considered.  相似文献

The out-of-plane instability of a moving plate, travelling between two rollers with constant velocity, is studied, taking into account the mutual interaction between the buckled plate and the surrounding, axially flowing ideal fluid. Transverse displacement of the buckled plate (assumed cylindrical) is described by an integro-differential equation that includes the centrifugal force, the aerodynamic reaction of the external medium, the vertical projection of membrane tension, and the bending force. The aerodynamic reaction is found analytically as a functional of the displacement. To find the critical divergence velocity of the moving plate and its corresponding buckling mode, an eigenvalue problem and variational principle are derived. Plate divergence, both within a vacuum and when submerged in an external medium, is investigated with the application of analytical and numerical techniques.  相似文献

In this paper, the velocity profile and pressure gradient of the unsteady state unidirectional flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid in a circular duct are considered. The flow motion in the duct is induced by a given but arbitrary inlet volume flow rate which varies with time. Based on the flow conditions described, two basic flow situations are solved, which are a suddenly started, and a constant acceleration, flow respectively. These two results are applied to a practical case that is a trapezoidal piston motion which contains three phases of piston motion, the constant acceleration from the rest to a fixed velocity, then keeping at this velocity, following with the constant deceleration to a stop. In addition, oscillatory flow is also considered.  相似文献

An exact and a numerical solutions to the problem of a steady mixed convective MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate with combined heat and mass transfer are presented.A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow with the consideration of the induced magnetic field with viscous and magnetic dissipations of energy. The porous plate is subjected to a constant suction velocity as well as a uniform mixed stream velocity. The governing equations are solved by the perturbation technique and a numerical method. The analytical expressions for the velocity field, the temperature field, the induced magnetic field, the skin-friction,and the rate of heat transfer at the plate are obtained. The numerical results are demonstrated graphically for various values of the parameters involved in the problem. The effects of the Hartmann number, the chemical reaction parameter, the magnetic Prandtl number, and the other parameters involved in the velocity field, the temperature field, the concentration field, and the induced magnetic field from the plate to the fluid are discussed. An increase in the heat source/sink or the Eckert number is found to strongly enhance the fluid velocity values. The induced magnetic field along the x-direction increases with the increase in the Hartmann number, the magnetic Prandtl number, the heat source/sink,and the viscous dissipation. It is found that the flow velocity, the fluid temperature, and the induced magnetic field decrease with the increase in the destructive chemical reaction.Applications of the study arise in the thermal plasma reactor modelling, the electromagnetic induction, the magnetohydrodynamic transport phenomena in chromatographic systems, and the magnetic field control of materials processing.  相似文献

The three-dimensional problem of steady-state forced vibrations of fluid and semiinfinite ice sheet under the action of a local external load traveling along the rectilinear sheet edge at a constant velocity is considered. Two cases are analyzed. In the first case the fluid surface outside the ice sheet is free and in the second the fluid is confined by a rigid vertical wall and the ice sheet edge adjacent to the wall can be both clamped and free. The ice sheet is simulated by a thin elastic isotropic plate floating on the surface of fluid of finite depth. The load traveling velocity is assumed to be not higher than the minimum phase velocity of the flexural-gravity waves (subcritical regime). The solution to the linear problem is obtained by means of the integral Fourier transform and matching the expansions of the velocity potential in the vertical eigenfunctions. Examples of the numerical investigation of the ice sheet and fluid displacements are given.  相似文献

We examine the transient forced convection heat transfer from a fixed, semi-infinite, flat plate situated in a fluid which, at large distances, is moving with a constant velocity parallel to the plate. Both the fluid and the plate are initially at a constant temperature and the transients are initiated when the zero heat flux at the plate is suddenly changed to a constant value. The thermal boundary-layer equations are solved using numerical techniques to extend a series which is valid for small times and describe fully the development from the initial unsteady state solution (small times) to the ultimate steady state solution (large time).  相似文献
