In this article, I prove the following statement: Every compact complex surface with even first Betti number is deformation equivalent to one which admits an extremal Kähler metric. In fact, this extremal Kähler metric can even be taken to have constant scalar curvature in all but two cases: the deformation equivalence classes of the blow-up of \({\mathbb {P}_2}\) at one or two points. The explicit construction of compact complex surfaces with constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics in different deformation equivalence classes is given. The main tool repeatedly applied here is the gluing theorem of C. Arezzo and F. Pacard which states that the blow-up/resolution of a compact manifold/orbifold of discrete type, which admits cscK metrics, still admits cscK metrics.  相似文献

For a pseudo-Riemannian manifold (M, g) of dimensionn3, we introduce a scalar curvature functionS(V) for non-degenerate subspacesV ofT pM which is a generalization of the scalar curvature, and give some characterizations of Einstein spaces in terms of this scalar curvature function. We also give a characterization for spaces of constant curvature. As an application of our results, we show that the Ricci curvature or the sectional curvature of a Lorentz manifold is constant if the scalar curvature function for non-degenerate subspaces is bounded.Partially supported by the grants from TGRC.  相似文献

We prove that a Finsler manifold with vanishing Berwald scalar curvature has zero E-curvature. As a consequence, Landsberg manifolds with vanishing Berwald scalar curvature are Berwald manifolds. For (α,β)-metrics on manifold of dimension greater than 2, if the mean Landsberg curvature and the Berwald scalar curvature both vanish, then the Berwald curvature also vanishes.  相似文献

We give an estimate of the mean curvature of a complete submanifold lying inside a closed cylinder in a product Riemannian manifold . It follows that a complete hypersurface of given constant mean curvature lying inside a closed circular cylinder in Euclidean space cannot be proper if the circular base is of sufficiently small radius. In particular, any possible counterexample to a conjecture of Calabi on complete minimal hypersurfaces cannot be proper. As another application of our method, we derive a result about the stochastic incompleteness of submanifolds with sufficiently small mean curvature. Dedicated to Professor Manfredo P. do Carmo on the occasion of his 80th birthday.  相似文献

We prove that curves of constant curvature satisfy, in the sense of Gromov, the relative -dense h-principle in the space of immersed curves in Euclidean space R n ≥ 3. In particular, in the isotopy class of any given knot f there exists a knot f͂ of constant curvature which is -close to f. More importantly, we show that if f is , then the curvature of f͂ may be set equal to any constant c which is not smaller than the maximum curvature of f. We may also require that f͂ be tangent to f along any finite set of prescribed points, and coincide with f over any compact set with an open neighborhood where f has constant curvature c. The proof involves some basic convexity theory, and a sharp estimate for the position of the average value of a parameterized curve within its convex hull. We prove the existence of embedded spheres with large constant mean curvature in any compact Riemannian manifold (M, g). This result partially generalizes a result of R. Ye which handles the case where the scalar curvature function of the ambient manifold (M, g) has non-degenerate critical points.  相似文献

We show that on every compact spin manifold admitting a Riemannian metric of positive scalar curvature Friedrich's eigenvalue estimate for the Dirac operator can be made sharp up to an arbitrarily small given error by choosing the metric suitably.

Let (M n , g) be an n-dimensional complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with harmonic curvature and positive Sobolev constant. In this paper, by employing an elliptic estimation method, we show that (M n , g) is a space form if it has sufficiently small L n/2-norms of trace-free curvature tensor and nonnegative scalar curvature. Moreover, we get a gap theorem for (M n , g) with positive scalar curvature.  相似文献

On a 4-dimensional anti-Kähler manifold, its zero scalar curvature implies that its Weyl curvature vanishes and vice versa. In particular any 4-dimensional anti-Kähler manifold with zero scalar curvature is flat.  相似文献

We let (M,g) be a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold of dimension n 3 whose scalar curvature S(x) is positive for all x in M. With an assumption on the Ricci curvature and scalar curvature at infinity, we study the behavior of solutions of the Yamabe equation on –u+[(n–2)/(4(n–1))]Su=qu (n+2)/(n–2) on (M,g). This study finds restrictions on the existence of an injective conformal immersion of (M,g) into any compact Riemannian n -manifold. We also show the existence of a complete conformal metric with constant positive scalar curvature on (M,g) with some conditions at infinity.  相似文献

In this paper we study the behavior of the scalar curvature S of a complete hypersurface immersed with constant mean curvature into a Riemannian space form of constant curvature, deriving a sharp estimate for the infimum of S. Our results will be an application of a weak Omori-Yau maximum principle due to Pigola, Rigoli, Setti (2005) [17].  相似文献

In this paper, we study the problem whether a Finsler metric of scalar flag curvature is locally projectively flat. We consider a special class of Finsler metrics — square metrics which are defined by a Riemannian metric and a 1-form on a manifold. We show that in dimension n ≥ 3, any square metric of scalar flag curvature is locally projectively flat.  相似文献

The canonical paracontact connection is defined and it is shown that its torsion is the obstruction the paracontact manifold to be paraSasakian. A -homothetic transformation is determined as a special gauge transformation. The η-Einstein manifold are defined, it is proved that their scalar curvature is a constant, and it is shown that in the paraSasakian case these spaces can be obtained from Einstein paraSasakian manifolds with -homothetic transformations. It is shown that an almost paracontact structure admits a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion if and only if the Nijenhuis tensor of the paracontact structure is skew-symmetric and the defining vector field is Killing.   相似文献

Let N be a closed connected spin manifold admitting one metric ofpositive scalar curvature. In this paper we use the higher eta-invariant associated to the Dirac operator on N in order to distinguish metrics of positive scalar curvature on N. In particular, we give sufficient conditions, involving 1(N) and dim N, for N to admit an infinite number of metrics of positive scalar curvature that are nonbordant. This article concerns the structure of complete noncompact stable hypersurfaces M n with constant mean curvature H > 0 in a complete noncompact oriented Riemannian manifold N n+1. In particular, we show that a complete noncompact stable constant mean curvature hypersurface M n , n = 5, 6, in the Euclidean space must have only one end. Any such hypersurface in the hyperbolic space with , respectively, has only one end.  相似文献

Let : M N be a harmonic morphism from a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold M with nonnegative Ricci curvature to a complete Riemannian manifold N with nonpositive scalar curvature. We show if the energy of is finite, then is constant. This can be compared with a similar result for harmonic maps when N has nonpositive sectional curvature due to Schoen and Yau.  相似文献

Barbosa, do Carmo and Eschenburg characterized the totally umbilical spheres as the only weakly stable compact constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in the Euclidean sphere . In this paper we prove that the weak index of any other compact constant mean curvature hypersurface in n+1 which is not totally umbilical and has constant scalar curvature is greater than or equal to , with equality if and only if is a constant mean curvature Clifford torus with radius .

We give a coarse classification of constant mean curvature (CMC) immersions of cylinders into via the loop group method. Particularly for this purpose, we consider double loop groups and a new type of ``potentials' which are meromorphic 1-forms on Riemann surfaces.
