In the present paper we discuss the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid model in a vertical asymmetric channel under a zero Reynolds number and long wavelength approximation. Exact solution of the temperature equation in the absence of dissipation term has been computed and the analytical ex- pression for stream function and axial pressure gradient are established. The flow is analyzed in a wave frame of reference moving with the velocity of wave. The expression for pressure rise has been computed numerically. The physical features of pertinent parameters are analyzed by plotting graphs and discussed in detail.  相似文献

Peristaltic motion of a power law fluid in a two-dimensional channel is studied. Assuming that the wavelength of the peristaltic wave is large in comparison to the mean half-width of the channel, a solution for the stream function is obtained as an asymptotic expansion in terms of slope parameter. Expressions for axial pressure gradient and shear stress are derived. The effect of flow behaviour indexn on the streamline pattern and shear stress is studied and the phenomenon of trapping is discussed.  相似文献

This study is concerned with peristaltic flow of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) fluid in an asymmetric channel. Asymmetry in the flow is induced by waves on the channel walls having different amplitudes and phase. A systematic approach based on an expansion of Deborah number is used for the solution series. Analytic expressions have been developed for the stream function, axial velocity and axial pressure gradient. The pressure rise over a wavelength has been addressed through numerical integration. Particular attention has been given to the effects of Hartman number and Deborah number on the pressure rise over a wavelength and the trapping phenomenon. Several limiting solutions of interest are obtained as the special cases of the presented analysis by taking the appropriate parameter(s) to be zero. To understand theoretically the flow properties of physiological fluids we have considered as a model the peristaltic motion of a Johnson–Segalman fluid in a tube with a sinusoidal wave traveling down its wall. The perturbation solution for the stream function is obtained for large wavelength and small Weissenberg number. The expressions for the axial velocity, pressure gradient, and pressure rise per wavelength are also constructed. The general solution of the governing nonlinear partial differential equation is given using a transformation method. The numerical solution is also obtained and is compared with the perturbation solution. Numerical results are demonstrated for various values of the physical parameters of interest.   相似文献

The influence of relaxation and retardation time on peristaltic transport of an incompressible Oldroydian viscoelastic fluid by means of an infinite train of sinusoidal waves traveling along the walls of a two-dimensional flexible channel is investigated. A perturbation solution is obtained for the case in which the amplitude ratio (wave amplitude to channel half-width) is small. The results show that the values of the mean axial velocity of an Oldroydian viscoelastic fluid is smaller than that for a Newtonian fluid. The reflux phenomena are discussed. It is found that the critical reflux pressure gradient decreases with increasing retardation time and increases with increasing relaxation time. Numerical results are reported for different values of the physical parameters of interest. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 46, No. 6, pp. 86–95, November–December, 2005.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of heat transfer and induced magnetic field on peristaltic flow of a Johnson-Segalman fluid is studied. The purpose of the present investigation is to study the effects of induced magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of non-Newtonian fluid. The two-dimensional equations of a Johnson-Segalman fluid are simplified by assuming a long wavelength and a low Reynolds number. The obtained equations are solved for the stream function, magnetic force function, and axial pressure gradient by using a regular perturbation method. The expressions for the pressure rise, temperature, induced magnetic field, pressure gradient, and stream function are sketched and interpreted for various embedded parameters.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the peristaltic transport of the Johnson-Segalman fluid in an asymmetric channel with convective boundary conditions. The mathematical modeling is based upon the conservation laws of mass, linear momentum, and energy. The resulting equations are solved after long wavelength and low Reynolds number are used. The results for the axial pressure gradient, velocity, and temperature profiles are obtained for small Weissenberg number. The expressions of the pressure gra-dient, velocity, and temperature are analyzed for various embedded parameters. Pumping and trapping phenomena are also explored.  相似文献

Summary To understand theoretically the flow properties of physiological fluids, we have considered as a model the peristaltic motion of a power law fluid in a tube, with a sinusoidal wave of small amplitude travelling down its wall. The solution for the stream function is obtained as a power series in terms of the amplitude of the wave. The stream function and the velocity components are evaluated by solving numerically two point boundary value problems with a singular point at the origin. The influence of the applied pressure gradient along with non-Newtonian parameters on the streamlines and velocity profiles are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The flow of a power-law fluid is investigated in an asymmetric channel caused by the movement of peristaltic waves with the same speed but with different amplitudes and phases on the flexible walls of the channel. The differential equation governing the flow is non-linear and can admit non-unique solutions. There exist two different physically meaningful solutions one satisfying the boundary conditions at the upper wall and the other at the lower wall. The effects of the power-law nature of the fluid on the pumping characteristics and axial velocity are studied in detail.  相似文献

The effect of variable viscosity on the peristaltic motion of MHD third‐order fluid in a channel is studied using slip condition. The series solution for stream function, longitudinal velocity and pressure gradient are first derived and then discussed in detail. The pressure rise and frictional forces are monitored through numerical integration. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The study of peristaltic flow of a Carreau fluid in a non‐uniform tube under the consideration of long wavelength in the presence of heat and mass transfer is presented. The flow is investigated in a wave frame of reference moving with velocity of the wave c. Two types of analytical solutions have been evaluated (i) perturbation method (ii) homotopy analysis method for velocity, temperature and concentration field. Numerical integration have been used to obtain the graphical results for pressure rise and frictional forces. In this article, we investigate the influence of heat and mass transfer on the peristaltic flow of magnetohydrodynamic second‐order fluid in a channel when the induced magnetic field effects are present. Problem formulation in a wave frame of reference is presented. The governing nonlinear analysis is carried out under the assumption of small wave number. Explicit expressions of the pressure gradient, the stream function, the magnetic force function, the axial induced magnetic field, the current density distribution, the temperature, and the concentration distribution are derived. The effects of embedded parameters are also examined. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In the present study, we investigated the effects of slip and induced magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of a Jeffrey fluid in an asymmetric channel. The governing two‐dimensional equations for momentum, magnetic force function and energy are simplified by using the assumptions of long wavelength and low but finite Reynolds number. The reduced problem has been solved by Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and closed form solutions have been presented. Further, the exact solution of the proposed problem has also been computed and the mathematical comparison shows that both solutions are almost similar. The effects of pertinent parameters on the pressure rise per wavelength are investigated using numerical integration. The expressions for pressure rise, friction force, velocity, temperature, magnetic force function and the stream lines against various physical parameters of interest are shown graphically. Moreover, the behavior of different kinds of wave shape are also discussed. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this article couple stress fluid have been considered for the peristaltic flow of chyme in intestine. Problem under consideration have been formulated assuming that two non-periodic sinusoidal wave of different wavelength propagate with same speed c along the outer wall of the tube. Governing equations have been simplified under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximation (such assumption are consistent that Re (Reynold number) is very small and long wavelength approximation also exists in the small intestine). Exact solutions have been evaluated for velocity and pressure rise. Physical behaviour of different parameter of couple stress fluid have been presented graphically for velocity, pressure rise, pressure gradient and frictional forces. The stream lines are also made against different parameters.  相似文献

The present theoretical assessment deals with the peristaltic-ciliary transport of a developing embryo within a fallopian tubal fluid in the human fallopian tube. A mathematical model of peristalsis-cilia induced flow of a linearly viscous fluid within a fallopian tubal fluid in a finite two-dimensional narrow tube is developed. The lubrication approximation theory is used to solve the resulting partial differential equation. The expressions for axial and radial velocities, pressure gradient, stream function, volume flow rate, and time mean volume flow rate are derived. Numerical integration is performed for the appropriate residue time over the wavelength and the pressure difference over the wavelength. Moreover, the plots of axial velocity, the appropriate residue time over wavelength, the vector, the pressure difference over wavelength, and the streamlines are displayed and discussed for emerging parameters and constants. Salient features of the pumping characteristics and the trapping phenomenon are discussed in detail. Furthermore, a comparison between the peristaltic flow and the peristaltic-ciliary flow is made as the special case. Relevance of the current results to the transport of a developing embryo within a fallopian tubal fluid from ampulla to the intramural in the fallopian tube is also explored. It reveals the fact that cilia along with peristalsis helps to complete the required mitotic divisions while transporting the developing embryo within a fallopian tubal fluid in the human fallopian tube.  相似文献

The mechanism of peristaltic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow based on slip and heat transfer effects is studied in an asymmetric channel. An incompressible viscous fluid fills the porous space inside the channel. Long wavelength and zero Reynolds number approximation are used in the flow modeling. Expressions of stream function, longitudinal pressure gradient, and temperature are developed. Various interesting phenomena associated with peristalsis, such as pumping and trapping, are discussed in detail. Further the effects of various pertinent parameters on temperature field and heat transfer coefficient are explained with the help of graphs and tables. It is found that pressure rise over one wavelength decreases in pumping region for large values of slip parameter. Similar behavior is observed for temperature field by increasing the slip parameter. However, the volume of trapped bolus decreases by increasing the slip parameter. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the peristaltic transport of a couple stress fluid in a channel with compliant walls. Perturbation method has been used to get the solution. The flow is induced by sinusoidal traveling waves along the channel walls. The effects of wall damping, wall elastance, wall tension and couple stress parameter on the flow are investigated using the equations of fluid as well as deformable boundaries. It is found that the mean velocity at boundaries decreases with increasing couple-stress parameter and wall damping and increases with increasing wall tension and wall elastance, while the mean axial velocity increases with increasing wall tension and wall elastance and decreases with couple-stress parameter and wall damping.  相似文献
