A strategy has been developed for the synthesis of novel amphiphilic conetworks (APCNs) of poly(N,N‐dimethyl acrylamide) (PDMAAm) and polydimethyl‐siloxane (PDMS) segments crosslinked with polyhydrosiloxanes. The synthesis proceeds in three steps in one pot (see Figure 2 for reactions and abbreviations): (1) the preparation of a charge containing three components (an asymmetric–telechelic macromonomer, MA‐PDMS‐V, plus two symmetric–telechelic crosslinkers, MA‐PDMS‐MA and V‐PDMS‐V), (2) the free‐radical terpolymerization of N,N‐dimethyl acrylamide, MA‐PDMS‐V, and MA‐PDMS‐MA into a slightly crosslinked and soluble graft of a PDMAAm backbone carrying‐PDMS‐V branches, and (3) the crosslinking of PDMS branches with polyhydrosiloxanes. The effects of key experimental parameters (e.g., composition, molecular weights, and initiator and crosslinker concentrations) on synthesis details and swelling behavior have been studied. The water uptake/permeability of APCNs is significantly increased by the addition of homo‐PDMAAm to graft charges, crosslinking of the graft, and, after the desirable morphology is stabilized, removing the homo‐PDMAAm by water extraction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis and characterization of novel elastomeric nanocomposites containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) as both the cross‐linker and filler within a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer matrix. These polymer composites were prepared through the reaction of octasilane‐POSS (OS‐POSS) with vinyl‐terminated PDMS chains using hydrosilylation chemistry. In addition, larger super‐POSS cross‐linkers, consisting of two pendant hepta(isobutyl)POSS molecules attached to a central octasilane‐POSS core, were also used in the fabrication of the PDMS composites. The chemical incorporation of these POSS cross‐linkers into the PDMS network was verified by solid‐state 1H magic angle spinning NMR. Based on dynamic mechanical analysis, the PDMS nanocomposites prepared with the octafunctional OS‐POSS cross‐linker exhibited enhanced mechanical properties relative to polymer systems prepared with the tetrafunctional TDSS cross‐linker at equivalent loading levels. The observed improvements in mechanical properties can be attributed to the increased dimensionality of the POSS cross‐linker. The PDMS elastomers synthesized from the larger super‐POSS molecule showed improved mechanical properties relative to both the TDSS and OS‐POSS composites due to the increased volume‐fraction of POSS filler in the polymer matrix. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new telechelic amphiphilic triblock copolymers, HE3‐PEG‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PEG‐HE3 and HE3‐PEG‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PEG‐HE3, i.e., sequence‐reversed triblocks of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) segments fitted with photocrosslinkable tri[2‐(3,4‐cyclohexane oxide)ethyl‐dimethylsiloxy]silane (HE3) termini, were synthesized, characterized, photocrosslinked to amphiphilic conetworks (APCNs), and the properties of the APCNs were analyzed. APCNs in which the crosslinking sites are located in the hydrophobic domains exhibited significantly better mechanical properties than those in which the crosslinks were in the hydrophilic domains. The stiff domains formed of the UV‐crosslinkable HE3 chain‐end substituents provide not only crosslinking but reinforcement as well. The crosslinking/reinforcement efficiency was greatly enhanced by the addition of excess HE3. Water‐swollen APCNs were optically clear and exhibited mechanical properties appropriate for biomedical application. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and characterization of novel tricomponent networks consisting of well‐defined poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) strands crosslinked and reinforced by poly(pentamethylcyclopentasiloxane) (PD5) domains are described. Network synthesis occurred by dissolving α,ω‐diallyl PEG and α,ω‐divinyl PDMS prepolymers in a common solvent (toluene), introducing a stoichiometric excess of pentamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5H) to the charge, inducing the cohydrosilation of the prepolymers by Karstedt's catalyst and completing network formation by the addition of water. Water in the presence of the Pt‐based catalyst oxidizes the SiH groups of D5H to SiOH functions that immediately polycondense and bring about crosslinking. The progress of cohydrosilation and polycondensation was followed by monitoring the disappearance of the SiH and SiOH functions by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Because cohydrosilation and polycondensation are essentially quantitative, overall network composition can be controlled by calculating the stoichiometry of the three network constituents. The very low quantities of extractable (sol) fractions corroborate efficient crosslinking. The networks swell in both water and hexanes. Differential scanning calorimetry showed three thermal transitions assigned, respectively, to PEG (melting temperature: 46–60 °C depending on composition), PDMS [glass‐transition temperature (Tg) = ~?121 °C], and PD5 (Tg = ~?159 °C) and indicated a phase‐separated tricomponent nanoarchitecture. The low Tg of the PD5 phase is unprecedented. The strength and elongation of PEG/PD5/PDMS networks can be controlled by overall network composition. The synthesis of networks exhibiting sufficient mechanical properties (tensile stress: 2–5 MPa, elongation: 100–800%) for various possible applications has been demonstrated. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Azidopropyl‐heptaisobutyl‐substituted polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS‐N3) was reacted with 1,1,1‐tris[4‐(2‐propynyloxy)phenyl]‐ethane ( 1 ) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) copolymer with alkyne at its center (PEG‐PMMA‐alkyne) affording the first time synthesis of 3‐arm star POSS and PEG‐PMMA‐POSS 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer, respectively, in the presence of CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalyst and N,N‐dimethylformamide/tetrahydrofuran as solvent at room temperature. The synthesis and molecular characterization of a new amphiphilic conetwork (APCN) designed for silicone hydrogel use is described. The synthesis strategy, outlined in Scheme 1 , calls for the preparation, by the RAFT technique, of a new methacrylate‐telechelic amphiphilic pentablock, MA‐PHEA‐b‐PDMAAM‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PDMAAm‐b‐PHEA‐MA, and its crosslinking to the target APCN. The sketch shows the architecture of the APCN (dotted lines, PDMAAm; solid lines, PDMS; clusters, MA‐based crosslinking sites; see Fig. 3 ). All six synthesis steps proceed smoothly and efficiently, and the products are optically clear, colorless membranes exhibiting properties appropriate for ophthalmic use. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple but efficient strategy has been developed for the synthesis of novel di‐, tri‐, multi‐, and star‐block copolymers comprising poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and polyisobutylene (PIB) blocks. The synthesis principle involves the coupling of appropriately terminally functionalized PEG and PIB sequences, specifically the hydrosilation of mono‐, di‐, and tetra‐allyl‐telechelic PEGs (PEG‐allyl, allyl‐PEG‐allyl, and C(‐PEG‐allyl)4 by mono‐ and di‐Si(CH3)2H telechelic PIBs (PIB‐SiH and HiS‐PIB‐SiH). Representative block copolymers, for example, PEG‐PIB, PIB‐PEG‐PIB, (‐PIB‐PEG‐)n, and C(‐PEG‐PIB)4 have been assembled and their structures determined by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The bulk and surface morphology of select triblocks have been investigated by DSC and AFM and the findings interpreted in terms of phase‐separated PEG and PIB microdomains. The swelling behavior in water of various block copolymers also has been studied. Block copolymers containing 50–70 wt % PIB produce hydrogels, the integrity of which is maintained by physical crosslinks by PIB segments. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis, micelle formation, and bulk properties of semifluorinated amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(pentafluorostyrene)‐g‐cubic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS) hybrid copolymers is reported. The synthesis of amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PPFS block copolymers are achieved using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) at 100 °C in trifluorotoluene using modified poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator. Subsequently, a proportion of the reactive para‐F functionality on the pentafluorostyrene units was replaced with aminopropylisobutyl POSS through aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. The products were fully characterized by 1H‐NMR and GPC. The products, PEG‐b‐PPFS and PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS, were subsequently self‐assembled in aqueous solutions to form micellar structures. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) were estimated using two different techniques: fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The cmc was found to decrease concomitantly with the number of POSS particles grafted per copolymer chain. The hydrodynamic particle sizes (Rh) of the micelles, calculated from DLS data, increase as the number of POSS molecules grafted per copolymer chain increases. For example, Rh increased from ~60 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS to ~80 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS25 (25 is the average number of POSS particles grafted copolymer chain). Static light scattering (SLS) data confirm that the formation of larger micelles by higher POSS containing copolymers results from higher aggregation numbers (Nagg), caused by increased hydrophobicity. The Rg/Rh values, where Rg is the radius of gyration calculated from SLS data, are consistent with a spherical particle model having a core‐shell structure. Thermal characterization by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) reveals that the grafted POSS acts as a plasticizer; the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PPFS block in the copolymer decreases significantly with increasing POSS content. Finally, the rhombohedral crystal structure of POSS in PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS was verified by wide angle X‐ray diffraction measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Select characteristics and properties of a series of ideal tetrafunctional amphiphilic conetworks consisting of random poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) segments crosslinked by a novel dual‐purpose crosslinker/extender were determined. The overall composition of the conetworks was varied in the 16–40% PEG range, and membranes were prepared by polymerizing/crosslinking charges in molds. Membranes were characterized by equilibrium swelling (both in water and n‐heptane) and by determining their oxygen permeabilities and select mechanical properties. Swelling in water increases, whereas in heptane it decreases with increasing PEG content. Significant swelling in both solvents indicates bicontinuous (bipercolating) PEG and PDMS phases. Bicontinuity is reached with ~13% PEG in the conetworks. The oxygen permeabilities of optically clear water‐swollen membranes containing 24, 32, and 40 wt % PEG are ~350, ~245 and ~185 barrers, respectively, i.e., oxygen permeability decreases by increasing the hydrophilic constituent. These oxygen permeabilities are far superior to those of contemporary soft contact lenses. The tensile strengths and moduli of water‐swollen membranes decrease, while elongations increase, with increasing PEG content. Dry membranes exhibit first order transitions at ?52 and ~46 °C indicating phase‐separated crystalline PDMS and PEG domains, respectively. Both dry and water‐swollen membranes are optically clear, indicating the presence of PEG and PDMS domains with dimensions well below the wavelength of visible light. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have determined with infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry how the nature of the interface between a thin poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) coating and its substrate affects the rate of PDMS crosslinking reactions. Reactions between vinyl (? CH?CH2) end groups on PDMS and silyl (SiH) groups in a crosslinker (hydrosilylation) and between SiH groups and silanol (SiOH) groups, during the so‐called postcure crosslinking stage, have been probed in situ. The overall consumption of SiH follows first‐order reaction kinetics. The first‐order reaction coefficient (k1) for the hydrosilylation crosslinking reaction is the same for coatings on three different substrates: native oxide on silicon (SiO2/Si), polystyrene (PS), and poly(ethylene terephthalate). For the slower postcure reactions, however, the rate of SiH consumption depends on the substrate. In 2.5‐μm PDMS coatings on PS, k1 is about seven times greater than k1 in the same coating on SiO2/Si. In PDMS coatings on a PDMS substrate, when the effect of the interface is thus minimal, k1 is 16 times higher than on SiO2/Si. The dependence of k1 on the type of interface is probably the result of the interfacial segregation and complexation of the Pt catalyst for the postcure reactions. We propose that polar surfaces more strongly attract Pt and form complexes that inhibit the postcure reactions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study explores the molecularly templated reaction of pyrene‐terminated telechelic poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) with graphene oxide (GO) to produce composite elastomers. These materials undergo chemical crosslinking between secondary amides near PDMS chain ends and epoxies on the surface of GO as confirmed by infrared spectroscopy, rheology, gel content, and mechanical property measurements. The incorporation of pyrene end groups introduces π–π interactions with GO surfaces that enhance the reaction efficacy of the nearby secondary amide groups. As a comparison, methoxy‐terminated telechelic PDMS containing the same secondary amides near the chain ends did not exhibit appreciable crosslinking with GO. Depending on the concentration of the amide groups, the pyrene‐terminated PDMS/GO elastomer can be highly crosslinked (e.g., up to 96 wt % gel) but highly extensible (e.g., extensional strains of more than 200%). This general strategy could be implemented using other amide containing polymers to produce a wide range of high‐performance thermosets and elastomers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. This article reports our discovery that poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can quantitatively be functionalized by transesterification using Candida antarctica lipase B (Novozyme 435) as the catalyst. α‐ω telechelic PEG‐methacrylates and PEG‐acetates were successfully prepared using commercially available PEGs with both narrow and broad molecular weight distribution. 1H and 13C NMR together with MALDI‐TOF mass spectroscopy verified the expected structures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a new type of amphiphilic conetwork (APCN) consisting of well‐defined hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) segments is described. The conetwork is ideal (the lengths of each PEG and PDMS chain segments, respectively, are identical) and tetrafunctional (exactly four chains emanate from each crosslink site). The synthesis of the conetworks was achieved by the use of a novel dual‐purpose extender/crosslinker Y (bis [(dimethylsilyl)oxy]‐[(etoxydimethylsilyl)oxy]phenylsilane, (SiPh(SiH)2OEt)), in two steps: (1) Synthesis of a new linear random multiblock copolymer (MBC) (AY)n(BY)m, where A is the hydrophilic PEG and B is the hydrophobic segment, and (2) Crosslinking the multiblocks by catalytic condensation of the SiOEt groups in the Y units. The extender/crosslinker fulfills two totally different functions: First, it extends two incompatible hydrophilic and hydrophobic prepolymers (PEG and PDMS) to a random MBC, and, subsequently, it cross‐links the multiblocks to the target APCN. The synthesis and characterization of the extender/crosslinker is also presented. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 4953–4964, 2005  相似文献

A series of polyurethane hybrid networks have been synthesized using octakis(m‐isoprenyl‐α,α′‐dimethylbenzylisocyanato dimethylsiloxy) octasilsesquioxane (Q8M8TMI) as a crosslinking agent. The formation of the urethane linkages within the polyurethane hybrids was confirmed by photoacoustic FTIR spectroscopy. The TGA and DSC studies demonstrated that the incorporation of the POSS crosslinking agents altered the thermal properties of the polyurethanes, and that this was dependent on the length of the polyethylene glycol chain. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined diblock copolymers (BCPs) consisting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) were synthesized and blended with commercially available PEBAX® 2533 to form the active layer of thin‐film composite (TFC) membranes, via spin‐coating. BCPs with a PEG component ranging from 1 to 10 kDa and a PDMS component ranging from 1 to 10 kDa were synthesized by a facile condensation reaction of hydroxyl terminated PEG and carboxylic acid functionalized PDMS. The BCP/PEBAX® 2533 blends up to 50 wt % on cross‐linked PDMS gutter layers were tested at 35 °C and 350 kPa. TFC membranes containing BCPs of 1 kDa PEG and 1–5 kDa PDMS produced optimal results with CO2 permeances of approximately 1000 GPU which is an increase up to 250% of the permeance of pure PEBAX® 2533 composite membranes, while maintaining a CO2/N2 selectivity of 21. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present herein a mild and rapid method to create diblock copolymer brushes on a silicon surface via photoinitiated “thiol‐ene” click reaction. The silicon surface was modified with 3‐mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) self‐assembled monolayer. Then, a mixture of divinyl‐terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and photoinitiator was spin‐coated on the MPTMS surface and exposed to UV‐light. Thereafter, a mixture of thiol‐terminated polyethylene glycol (PEG) and photoinitiator were spin‐coated on the vinyl‐terminated PDMS‐treated surface, and the sequent photopolymerization was carried out under UV‐irradiation. The MPTMS, PDMS, and PEG layers were carefully identified by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and water contact angle measurements. The thickness of the polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PDMS‐b‐PEG) diblock copolymer brush could be controlled by the irradiation time. The responsive behavior of diblock copolymer brushes treated in different solvents was also discussed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Hyperbranched fluoropolymers (HBFPs), based on benzyl ether linkages and having a large number of pentafluorophenyl chain ends, were crosslinked by a reaction with diamino-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or diamino-terminated poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) to form hyperbranched–linear copolymer networks of different compositions, structures, and properties. The crosslinking reactions involved the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of the pentafluorophenyl para-fluorines of HBFP by the amine functionalities of the respective telechelic linear segments. The contact angles, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile measurements, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to characterize the resulting network film samples. The surface wettability of the crosslinked materials was affected by the nature and amount of the linear polymer crosslinking agent employed. Amphiphilic polymer networks were formed by the incorporation of diamino-terminated PEG as a crosslinker, whereas diamino-terminated PDMS produced polymer networks of a hydrophobic character. The mechanical properties improved upon crosslinking, as measured by tensile testing. The mechanical integrity of the films was also found to improve upon crosslinking, as measured by AFM machining protocols. The AFM images revealed topographical morphologies that appeared to be the result of phase segregation of HBFP from PEG or PDMS; the dimensions of the phase-segregated domains were dependent on the stoichiometry of HBFP to the linear polymer and the thickness of the coating. As the content of PEG increased, fouling by human fibrinogen, used as a model protein, decreased. Further studies are in progress to determine the effects of the surface composition, morphology, and topography on the biofouling characteristics. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carboxyl‐functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (SQ; POSS‐COOH ) was successfully prepared by a structural transformation reaction, that is, a process of heating and concentrating soluble carboxyl‐functionalized rod‐like polySQ (PolySQ ‐COOH ) using the aqueous superacid trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (HOTf) as the catalyst and solvent. The obtained POSS‐COOH was a mixture of a cage‐like decamer (T10‐POSS), which was the main product, and an octamer (T8‐POSS) and a dodecamer (T12‐POSS), which were the minor products. The product obtained by heating and concentrating PolySQ‐COOH using aqueous hydrochloric acid (HCl) as the catalyst and solvent was soluble polySQ rather than POSS. For comparison, heating and concentrating POSS‐COOH in aqueous HOTf and HCl were performed, which yielded POSS‐COOH and PolySQ‐COOH , respectively. Based on these results, the process of heating and concentrating each starting material ( PolySQ‐COOH and POSS‐COOH ) in aqueous HOTf afforded POSS‐COOH , and a similar process in aqueous HCl yielded PolySQ‐COOH . © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of crosslinked siloxane/poly(ethylene glycol) (Si–PEG) copolymers were synthesized from the reactive methoxy‐functional silicone resin (Si resin) and PEGs with different molecular weights via two kinds of crosslinking reactions during an in situ curing stage. One of the crosslinking reactions is the self‐condensation between two methoxy groups in the Si resin, and another one is an alkoxy‐exchange reaction between the methoxy group in the Si resin and the OH group in PEG. The synthesized crosslinked copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, DSC, and 13C NMR. The crosslinked copolymers were stable in a moisture‐free environment, but the Si? O? C linkages were hydrolyzed in humid conditions. The gel‐like solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) were prepared by impregnating these crosslinked Si–PEG copolymers in a propylene carbonate (LiClO4/PC) solution. The highest conductivity reached 2.4 × 10?4 S cm?1 at 25 °C and increased to 8.7 × 10?4 S cm?1 at 85 °C. The conductivities of these gel‐type SPEs were affected by the content of LiClO4/PC, the molecular weights of PEGs, and the weight fraction of the Si resin. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (POSS), having eight hydroxyl groups for the preparation of nanocomposites with polyimide (PI) was synthesized by the direct hydrosilylation of allyl alcohol with octasilsesquioxane (Q8M8H) with platinum divinyltetramethyl disiloxane Pt(dvs) as a catalyst. The structure of allyl alcohol terminated‐POSS (POSS‐OH) was confirmed by FTIR, NMR, and XRD. A high performance, low‐k PI nanocomposite from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)‐4,4'‐oxydianiline (ODA) polyamic acid cured with POSS‐OH was also successfully synthesized. The incorporation of POSS‐OH into PI matrix reduced dielectric constant of PI without loosing mechanical properties. Furthermore, the effects of POSS‐OH on the morphology and properties of the PI/POSS‐OH nanocomposites were investigated using UV–vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, AFM, transmission electron microscope (TEM), TGA, and contact angle. The homogeneous dispersion of POSS particles was confirmed by SEM, AFM, and TEM. The nanoindentation showed that the modulus increased upon increasing the concentration of POSS‐OH in PI, whereas the hardness did not increase very much with respect to loading of POSS, due to soft‐interphase around POSS molecules in the resulting nanocomposites. Overall results demonstrated the nanometer‐level integration of the polymer and POSS‐OH. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 5887–5896, 2008  相似文献
