Copolymer nanoparticles from aniline (AN) and 4‐sulfonic diphenylamine (SDP) were simply synthesized for the first time by an oxidative precipitation polymerization with inorganic oxidants in an acidic aqueous medium without any external emulsifier or stabilizer. The polymerization yield, intrinsic viscosity, solubility, solvatochromism, electrical conductivity, and thermal stability of the copolymers were systematically studied through changes in the AN/SDP ratio, polymerization temperature, oxidant species, monomer/oxidant ratio, and acidic medium. The molecular structure of the copolymers was characterized with elemental analysis, IR, and ultraviolet–visible spectra. The polymers exhibited very good solubility in polar solvents, water, and NH4OH, and this was mainly attributable to the presence of sulfonic acid side groups. The electrical conductivity of the copolymers increased greatly, from 6.00 × 10?4 to 2.55 × 10?1 S/cm, with increasing AN content. The size of the copolymer particles, determined by laser particle analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM), strongly depended on the polymer state and oxidant/monomer ratio. Pure dedoped particles of the AN/SDP (50/50) copolymer at an oxidant/monomer ratio of 1/2 exhibited minimum length/diameter ratios of 62/44 and 45/30 nm by AFM and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The copolymers showed typical four‐step weight‐loss behavior in nitrogen and air and higher thermostability in nitrogen. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of copolymers were easily synthesized via the chemical oxidative polymerization of 2‐pyridylamine (2PA) and aniline (AN) in an acidic aqueous medium. The yield, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility of the copolymers were studied through changes in the 2PA/AN molar ratio, polymerization temperature, oxidant, oxidant/monomer molar ratio, and polymerization medium. The resulting 2PA/AN copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric techniques. The results showed that the oxidative copolymerization from 2PA and AN was exothermic. The resultant copolymers were amorphous and exhibited enhanced solubility in comparison with polyaniline. The 2PA/AN copolymers showed the highest decomposition temperature (530 °C), the slowest maximum‐weight‐loss rate (1.2 %/min), the largest char yield (45 wt %), and the greatest degradation activation energy (65 kJ/mol) in nitrogen. The thermostability of the copolymers was generally higher in nitrogen than in air. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 4407–4418, 2000  相似文献

A new series of copolymers was synthesized through the oxidative polymerization of pyrrole (PY) and o‐phenetidine (PHT) with inorganic oxidants in acidic media. The polymerization parameters including the mixing method of the oxidant with the comonomer, the comonomer ratio, the time, the temperature, the oxidant, the organic medium, and the acid were systematically optimized for the synthesis of copolymers with high yields, intrinsic viscosities, and solubility. The resultant copolymers were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, ultraviolet–visible, solution high‐resolution 1H NMR and solid‐state high‐resolution 13C NMR, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The results showed that the PY observed content in the copolymers was much higher than the PY feed content. The regular variation of the polymerization yield, intrinsic viscosity, solubility, macromolecular structure, and electroactivity of the resulting polymers with the comonomer ratio, together with the complete solubility of a PY/PHT (10/90) polymer in highly polar solvents, indicated the formation of real random copolymers containing both PY and PHT units rather than a mixture of two homopolymers. However, the polymers containing more than 59 mol % PY were not homogeneous copolymers consisting of soluble and insoluble parts. A semiquantitative relationship between the polymerization yield or solubility of the copolymers and the polarity index of the organic solvents was examined. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(o‐/m‐toluidine‐coo‐/m‐aminoacetophenone) copolymers combining the features of high conductivity and processibility are synthesized and characterized by a number of techniques including 1H NMR; thermogravimetry; IR, Raman, and UV–visible spectroscopy; scanning electron microscopy; and X‐ray diffraction. The copolymers are synthesized by the emulsion and inverse emulsion methods using conventional ammonium persulfate and a new oxidant, benzoyl peroxide, respectively. The influence of the polymerization conditions such as the monomer feed ratios, solvent, and the nonsolvent is investigated. The composition of the resulting copolymers is determined by 1H NMR analysis. The conductivity of the copolymers varies with the aminoacetophenone content in the feed and the polymerization conditions. It is interesting that the conductivity of the copolymers is higher than that of the corresponding homopolymers. The results are rationalized on the basis of the effect of the ? COCH3 substituent on the polymer structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 4300–4310, 2004  相似文献

The copper(0)‐catalyzed living radical polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) was investigated using ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate as an initiator and 2,2′‐bipyridine as a ligand. The polymerization proceeded smoothly in dimethyl sulphoxide with higher than 90% conversion in 13 h at 25 °C. The polymerization kept the features of controlled radical polymerization. 1H NMR spectra proved that the resultant polymer was end‐capped by ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate species. Such polymerization technique was also successfully introduced to conduct the copolymerization of styrene (St) and AN to obtain well‐controlled copolymers of St and AN at 25 °C, in which the monomer conversion of St could reach to higher than 90%. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel N‐hydroxy succinimide‐based carbonate monomer that allows direct synthesis of polymers incorporating a reactive carbonate group in the side chain was synthesized. This new monomer was copolymerized with methyl methacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) methylether methacrylate using free‐radical polymerization to obtain organo‐ and water‐soluble reactive copolymers. Copolymerization of the activated carbonate monomer with an azide‐containing monomer and N‐hydroxy succinimide‐containing activated ester monomer provided orthogonally functionalizable copolymers. The pendant reactive carbonate groups of the copolymers were functionalized with amines to obtain carbamates. Polymers capable of orthogonal functionalization could be selectively functionalized as desired using subsequent 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition or amidation reactions. The novel monomer and the copolymers were characterized by 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and infrared spectroscopy. The efficient stepwise orthogonal functionalization of the copolymers were examined via 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

D ,L ‐3‐Methylglycolide (MG) was synthesized via two step reactions with a good yield (42%). It was successfully polymerized in bulk with stannous octoate as a catalyst at 110 °C. The effects of the polymerization time and catalyst concentration on the molecular weight and monomer conversion were studied. Poly(D ,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid) (D ,L ‐PLGA50; 50/50 mol/mol) copolymers were successfully synthesized from the homopolymerization of MG with high polymerization rates and high monomer conversions under moderate polymerization conditions. 1H NMR spectroscopy indicated that the bulk ring‐opening polymerization of MG conformed to the coordination–insertion mechanism. 13C NMR spectra of D ,L ‐PLGA50 copolymers obtained under different experimental conditions revealed that the copolymers had alternating structures of lactyl and glycolyl. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 1,4‐Pentadien‐3‐one‐1,5‐bis(p‐hydroxyphenyl) (PBHP) was prepared by reacting p‐hydroxybenzaldehyde and acetone in the presence of an acid catalyst. 1,4‐Pentadiene‐3‐one‐1‐p‐hydroxyphenyl‐5‐p‐phenyl methacrylate (PHPPMA) monomer was prepared by reacting PBHP dissolved in ethyl methyl ketone (EMK) with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. A free‐radical solution polymerization technique was used for synthesizing homo‐ and copolymers of different feed compositions of PHPPMA and ethyl acrylate (EA) in EMK as a solvent with benzoyl peroxide as a free‐radical initiator at 70 ± 1 °C. All the polymers were characterized with IR and 1H NMR techniques. The compositions of the copolymers were determined with the 1H NMR technique. The copolymer reactivity ratios were evolved with Kelen–Tudos (EA = 1.25 and PHPPMA = 0.09) and extended Kelen–Tudos (EA = 1.30 and PHPPMA = 0.09) methods. Q (0.48) and e (1.68) values for the new monomer (PHPPMA) were calculated with the Alfrey–Price method. UV absorption spectra for poly(PHPPMA) showed two absorption bands at 302 and 315 nm. The photocrosslinking properties of the polymer samples were examined with the solvent method. Thermal analyses of the polymers were performed with the thermogravimetric‐differential thermogravimetric technique. First, the decomposition temperatures started for poly(PHPPMA), copoly(EA‐PHPPMA) (62:38), and copoly(EA‐PHPPMA) (41:59) were at 350, 410, and 417 °C, respectively. A gel permeation chromatographic method was used for determining the polymer molecular weights (weight‐average molecular weight: 2.67 × 104 and number‐average molecular weight: 1.41 × 104) and polydispersity index (1.89). The solubility of the monomer and the copolymers occurred at 30 °C with solvents having different polarities. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis of a water‐soluble diblock copolymer composed of polysulfonic diphenyl aniline (PSDA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), which was prepared by reacting an amine‐terminated PSDA and tosylate PEO (PEO‐Tos). First, a HCl‐mediated polymerization of sulfonic diphenyl aniline monomer with the formation of HCl‐doped PSDA was carried out. After its neutralization and reduction, a secondary amine‐functionalized PSDA was obtained. Second, PEO‐Tos was synthesized via the tosylation of the monohydroxyl PEO methyl ether with tosylol chloride. Diblock copolymers with various PEO segment lengths (PSDA‐b‐PEO‐350 and PSDA‐b‐PEO‐2000) were obtained with PEO‐350 [number‐average molecular weight (Mn) = 350] and PEO‐2000 (Mn = 2000). The prepolymers and diblock copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, NMR, mass spectrometry, and ultraviolet–visible light. They had relatively low conductivities, ranging from 10?6 to 10?3 S/cm, because of the withdrawing effect of the sulfonic group as well as the steric effects of the bulky aromatic substitutuents at the N sites of the polyaniline backbone and of the PEO block. These polymers were self‐doped, and an intermolecular self‐doping was suggested. The external doping was, however, more effective. The self‐doping induced aggregation in water among the PSDA backbones, which was also stimulated by the presence of hydrophilic PEO blocks. Furthermore, the electrical conductivities of the diblock copolymers were strongly temperature‐dependent. PSDA‐b‐PEO‐2000 exhibited about one order of magnitude increase in conductivity upon heating from 32 to 57 °C. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel sulfonated diamine monomer, 2,2′‐bis(p‐aminophenoxy)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl‐6,6′‐disulfonic acid (BNDADS), was synthesized. A series of sulfonated polyimide copolymers containing 30–80 mol % BNDADS as a hydrophilic component were prepared. The copolymers showed excellent solubility and good film‐forming capability. Atomic force microscopy phase images clearly showed hydrophilic/hydrophobic microphase separation. The relationship between the proton conductivity and degree of sulfonation was examined. The sulfonated polyimide copolymer with 60 mol % BNDADS showed higher proton conductivity (0.0945–0.161 S/cm) at 20–80 °C in liquid water. The membranes exhibited methanol permeability from 9 × 10?8 to 5 × 10?7 cm2/s at 20 °C, which was much lower than that of Nafion (2 × 10?6cm2/s). The copolymers were thermally stable up to 300 °C. The sulfonated polyimide copolymers with 30–60 mol % BNDADS showed reasonable mechanical strength; for example, the maximum tensile strength at break of the sulfonated polyimide copolymer with 40 mol % BNDADS was 80.6 MPa under high moisture conditions. The optimum concentration of BNDADS was found to be 60 mol % from the viewpoint of proton conductivity, methanol permeability, and membrane stability. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers of aniline and ethyl 3‐aminobenzoate (3EAB) were synthesized by chemical polymerization in several mole ratios of aniline to functionalized aniline, and their physicochemical properties were compared to those of poly(aniline‐co‐3‐aminobenzoic acid) (3ABAPANI) copolymers. The copolymers were characterized with UV–vis, FTIR, Raman, SEM, EPR, and solid‐state NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and conductivity measurements. The influence of the carboxylic acid and ester group ring substituents on the copolymers was investigated. The spectroscopic studies confirmed incorporation of 3ABA or 3EAB units in the copolymers and hence the presence of C?O group in the copolymer chains. The conductivity and EPR signals both decreased with increasing 3EAB content of the copolymers emeraldine salt (ES) form. The conductivity of the ES form of 3ABAPANI was found to be high (1.4 × 10?1 S cm?1) compared with the conductivity (10?2–10?3 S cm?1) of 3EABPANI (ES) copolymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(o‐aminobenzyl alcohol) (POABA) was grafted with poly(ethylene oxide)s (PEOs) through the reaction of tosylated PEO with both the hydroxide and amine moieties of reduced POABA. Reduced POABA was prepared through the acid‐mediated polymerization of o‐aminobenzyl alcohol, followed by neutralization with an aqueous ammonium hydroxide solution and reduction with hydrazine. The grafted copolymers were very soluble in common polar solvents, such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and dimethylformamide, and the copolymers with longer PEO side chains (number‐average molecular weight > 164) were even water‐soluble. The conductivities of the doped grafted copolymers decreased with increasing PEO side‐chain length because of the nonconducting PEO and its torsional effect on the POABA backbone. The conductivity of highly water‐soluble POABA‐g‐PEO‐350 was 0.689 × 10?3 S/cm, that is, in the semiconducting range. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, Cu(0)‐mediated radical copolymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) and acrylonitrile (AN) was explored. The polymerization was carried out at 25°C with 2,2′‐bipyridine as ligand and dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent. The copolymerization proceeded smoothly producing moderately controlled molecular weights at low VAc feed ratios. The high VAc feed ratios generated low polymerization rate and poorly controlled molecular weights. FTIR, 1H NMR, and differential scanning calorimetry confirmed the successful obtaining of the copolymers. Based on 1H NMR spectra, the reactivity ratios of VAc and AN were calculated to be 0.003 and 1.605, respectively. This work conveyed the first example for the Cu(0)‐mediated radical polymerization of AN and VAc, wherein VAc cannot be homopolymerized by Cu(0)‐mediated radical polymerization technique. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymers containing thiol‐reactive maleimide groups on their side chains have been synthesized by utilization of a novel methacrylate monomer containing a masked maleimide. Diels‐Alder reaction between furan and maleimide was adapted for the protection of the reactive maleimide double bond prior to polymerization. AIBN initiated free radical polymerization was utilized for synthesis of copolymers containing masked maleimide groups. No unmasking of the maleimide group was evident under the polymerization conditions. The maleimide groups in the side chain of the polymers were unmasked into their reactive form by utilization of retro Diels‐Alder reaction. This cycloreversion was monitored by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and bifunctional sparteine/thiourea organocatalyst‐mediated ring opening polymerization (ROP) were combined to produce poly(L ‐lactide) star polymers and poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐styrene) miktoarm star copolymers architecture following a facile experimental procedure, and without the need for specialist equipment. RAFT was used to copolymerize ethyl acrylate (EA) and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) into poly(EA‐co‐HEA) co‐oligomers of degree of polymerization 10 with 2, 3, and 4 units of HEA, which were in turn used as multifunctional initiators for the ROP of L ‐lactide, using a bifunctional thiourea organocatalytic system. Furthermore, taking advantage of the living nature of RAFT polymerization, the multifunctional initiators were chain extended with styrene (poly((EA‐co‐HEA)‐b‐styrene) copolymers), and used as initiators for the ROP of L ‐lactide, to yield miktoarm star copolymers. The ROP reactions were allowed to proceed to high conversions (>95%) with good control over molecular weights (ca. 28,000‐230,000 g/mol) and polymer structures being observed, although the molecular weight distributions are generally broader (1.3–1.9) than those normally observed for ROP reactions. The orthogonality of both polymerization techniques, coupled with the ubiquity of HEA, which is used as a monomer for RAFT polymerization and as an initiator for ROP, offer a versatile approach to star‐shaped copolymers. Furthermore, this approach offers a practical approach to the synthesis of polylactide star polymers without a glove box or stringent reaction conditions. The phase separation properties of the miktoarm star copolymers were demonstrated via thermal analyses. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 6396–6408, 2009  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of dendritic homopolymers and block copolymers of ?‐caprolactone and lactide (L ‐lactide and racemic lactide) were performed with multifunctional initiators in combination with living polymerization and the selective placement of branching junctures in a divergent growth strategy. A hexahydroxy‐functional 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid derivative was used as an initiator for the stannous‐2‐ethylhexanoate‐catalyzed living ring‐opening polymerization of ?‐caprolactone, L ‐lactide, and racemic L ,D ‐lactide. Branching junctions at the chain ends were introduced with benzylidene‐protected 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid. Subsequent generations were then polymerized, after deprotection, from these star‐shaped macroinitiators. Successive chain end capping and initiation produced three generations of polymers with molecular weights in excess of 130,000 g/mol and narrow polydispersities (<1.20). It was possible to prepare diblock and triblock copolymers with phase‐separated morphologies, and with L ‐lactide or D ,L ‐lactide, semicrystalline and amorphous morphologies were demonstrated. The polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, size exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. The compositions of the block copolymers and the conformational structures of the optically active polymers were also confirmed by optical rotation measurements. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide initiated by single‐component rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s was conducted. The influences of the rare‐earth elements, solvents, temperature, monomer and initiator concentrations, and reaction time on the polymerization were investigated in detail. No racemization was found from 70 to 100 °C under the examined conditions. NMR and differential scanning calorimetry measurements further confirmed that the polymerization occurred without epimerization of the monomer or polymer. A kinetic study indicated that the polymerization rate was first‐order with respect to the monomer and initiator concentrations. The overall activation energy of the ring‐opening polymerization was 79.2 kJ mol?1. 1H NMR data showed that the L ‐lactide monomer inserted into the growing chains with acyl–oxygen bond cleavage. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of terpolymers were synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization of m‐phenylenediamine (MPD), o‐anisidine (AS), and 2,3‐xylidine (XY) in hydrochloride aqueous medium. The yield, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility of the terpolymers were studied by changing the MPD/AS/XY molar ratio from 100/0/0 to 53/39/8 to 0/100/0. It was discovered that the MPD/AS/XY terpolymers exhibit a higher polymerization yield and better solubility than MPD/AS and MPD/XY bipolymers having the same MPD molar content. The as‐prepared MPD/AS/XY terpolymer bases were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, 1H NMR, and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C NMR spectroscopies; wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction; and thermogravimetry. The results suggested that the oxidative polymerization from MPD, AS, and XY is exothermic, and the resulting terpolymers are more easily soluble in some organic solvents than MPD homopolymer. The copolymer obtained was a real terpolymer containing MPD, AS, and XY units, and the actual MPD/AS/XY molar ratio calculated by solid‐state 13C NMR spectra of the polymers is very close to the feed ratio, although the AS content calculated on the basis of the 1H NMR spectrum of the soluble part of the polymer is higher than the feed AS content. The terpolymers and MPD homopolymer exhibit a higher polymerization yield and much higher intrinsic viscosity and are more amorphous than the AS homopolymer. At a fixed MPD content of 70 mol %, the terpolymers exhibit an increased thermostability and activation energy of the major degradation in nitrogen and air with an increasing AS content. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, a strategy for chemical synthesis of ascorbic acid functionalized polyacrylates (PAAA) was accomplished in a two‐step process, first a reversible addition fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization on a benzyl‐protected ascorbyl acrylate monomer, followed by a deprotection (debenzylation) reaction. The polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and gel permeation chromatograph. The polymerization ability of redox pair including PAAA and H2O2 were conducted through the measurement of 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) conversion against time via real‐time FT‐NIR. It was found that PAAA in the presence of H2O2, independent on itself chain length, exhibited much faster polymerization than small molecule ascorbic acid (smAA) as reductant at identical condition. Interestingly, when the concentration of ascorbate repeating unit was over some critical value, the polymerization kinetics of HEA could be tunable by simply adjusting the initial molar ratio of reductant to oxidant and environmental pH. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel biodegradable poly(ester anhydride) block copolymers based on ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and adipic anhydride (AA) were prepared by sequential polymerization. ε‐CL was first initiated by potassium poly(ethylene glycol)ate and polymerized into active chains (PCL‐O?K+), which were then used to initiate the ring‐opening polymerization of AA. The effects of the AA feed ratio, solvent polarity, monomer concentration, and temperature on sequential polymerization were investigated. The copolymers, obtained under different conditions, were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The GPC results showed that the weight‐average molecular weights of the block copolymers were approximately 6.0 × 104. The DSC results indicated the immiscibility of the two components. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 1511–1520, 2003  相似文献
