An amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PEO–PDMS) diblock copolymer was used to template a bisphenol A type epoxy resin (ER); nanostructured thermoset blends of ER and PEO–PDMS were prepared with 4,4′‐methylenedianiline (MDA) as the curing agent. The phase behavior, crystallization, hydrogen‐bonding interactions, and nanoscale structures were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and small‐angle X‐ray scattering. The uncured ER was miscible with the poly(ethylene oxide) block of PEO–PDMS, and the uncured blends were not macroscopically phase‐separated. Macroscopic phase separation took place in the MDA‐cured ER/PEO–PDMS blends containing 60–80 wt % PEO–PDMS diblock copolymer. However, the composition‐dependent nanostructures were formed in the cured blends with 10–50 wt % PEO–PDMS, which did not show macroscopic phase separation. The poly(dimethylsiloxane) microdomains with sizes of 10–20 nm were dispersed in a continuous ER‐rich phase; the average distance between the neighboring microdomains was in the range of 20–50 nm. The miscibility between the cured ER and the poly(ethylene oxide) block of PEO–PDMS was ascribed to the favorable hydrogen‐bonding interaction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable, amphiphilic, diblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG), triblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PCL), and star shaped copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether or poly(ethylene glycol) or star poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. Polymerizations were carried out in toluene at room temperature to yield monomodal polymers of controlled molecular weight. The chemical structure of the copolymers was investigated by 1H and 13C NMR. The formation of block copolymers was confirmed by 13C NMR and DSC investigations. The effects of copolymer composition and molecular structure on the physical properties were investigated by GPC and DSC. For the same PCL chain length, the materials obtained in the case of linear copolymers are viscous whereas in the case of star copolymer solid materials are obtained with low Tg and Tm temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Crystalline thermosetting blends composed of 2,2′‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane (BAPP)‐cured epoxy resin (ER) and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) were prepared via the in situ curing reaction of epoxy monomers in the presence of PCL, which started from initially homogeneous mixtures of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA), BAPP, and PCL. The miscibility of the blends after and before the curing reaction was established with differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis. Single and composition‐dependent glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) were observed in the entire blend composition after and before the crosslinking reaction. The experimental Tg's were in good agreement with the prediction by the Fox and Gordon–Taylor equations. The curing reaction caused a considerable increase in the overall crystallization rate and dramatically influenced the mechanism of nucleation and the growth of the PCL crystals. The equilibrium melting point depression was observed for the blends. An analysis of the kinetic data according to the Hoffman–Lauritzen crystallization kinetic theory showed that with an increasing amorphous content, the surface energy of the extremity surfaces increased dramatically for DGEBA/PCL blends but decreased for ER/PCL blends. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior and crystallization of graft copolymers consisting of poly(n‐hexyl methacrylate) (PHMA) as an amorphous main chain and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as crystallizable side chains (HMAx with 15 ≤ x ≤ 73, where x represents the weight percentage of PEG) were investigated. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering profiles measured above the melting temperature of PEG suggested that a microdomain structure with segregated PHMA and PEG domains was formed in HMA40 and HMA46. This phase behavior was qualitatively described by a calculated phase diagram based on the mean‐field theory. Because of the segregation of PEG into microdomains, the crystallization temperature of the PEG side chains in HMAx was higher than that in poly(methyl acrylate)‐graft‐poly(ethylene glycol) having a similar value of x, which was considered to be in a disordered state above the melting temperature. In HMAx with x ≤ 40, PEG crystallization was strongly restricted, probably because the PEG microdomains were isolated in the PHMA matrix. As a result, the growth of PEG spherulite was not observed because the PEG crystallization occurred after vitrification of the PHMA segregated domains. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: The reaction of triphosgene with poly(ethylene glycol) yielded poly(ethylene glycol) dichloroformate. This difunctional cross‐linker was allowed to react with poly(ε‐caprolactone) bearing carbanionic sites obtained by activation with lithium diisopropylamide. The reaction resulted in the cross‐linking of poly(ε‐caprolactone) chains by poly(ethylene glycol) segments, giving copolymer networks that gel in both organic and aqueous media.

New amphiphilic graft copolymers that have a poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) biodegradable hydrophobic backbone and poly(4‐vinylpyridine) (P4VP) or poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) hydrophilic side chains have been prepared by anionic polymerization of the corresponding 4VP and DMAEMA monomers using a PCL‐based macropolycarbanion as initiator. The water solubility of these amphiphilic copolymers is improved by quaternization, which leads to fully water‐soluble cationic copolymers that give micellar aggregates in deionized water with diameters ranging from 65 to 125 nm. In addition, to improve the hydrophilicity of PCL‐g‐P4VP, grafting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) segments has been carried out to give a water‐soluble double grafted PCL‐g‐(P4VP;PEG) terpolymer.

Novel poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐PEG‐PCL) bearing pendant hydrophobic γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester) groups (PECB) and hydrophiphilic amino groups (PECN) were synthesized based on the functionalized comonomer γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester)‐ε‐caprolactone (CABCL). The thermal gelation behavior of the amphiphilic copolymer aqueous solutions was examined. The phase transition behavior could be finely tuned via the pendant groups, and an abnormal phenomenon occurred that the sol–gel transition temperature shifted to a higher temperature for PECB whereas a lower temperature for PECN. The micelles percolation was adopted to clarify the hydrogel mechanism, and the effect of the pendant groups on the micellization was further investigated in detail. The results demonstrated that the introduction of γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester) pendant groups significantly decreased the crystallinity of the copolymer micelles whereas amino pendant groups made the micelles easy to aggregate. Thus, the thermal gelation of PEG/PCL aqueous solution could be finely tuned by the pendant groups, and the pendant groups modified PEG/PCL hydrogels are expected to have great potential biomedical application. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel thermoplastic elastomers based on multi‐block copolymers of poly(l ‐lysine) (PLL), poly(N‐ε‐carbobenzyloxyl‐l ‐lysine) (PZLL), poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were synthesized by combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and chain extension via l ‐lysine diisocyanate (LDI). SEC and 1H NMR were used to characterize the multi‐block copolymers, with number‐average molecular weights between 38,900 and 73,400 g/mol. Multi‐block copolymers were proved to be good thermoplastic elastomers with Young's modulus between 5 and 60 MPa and tensile strain up to 1300%. The PLL‐containing multi‐block copolymers were electrospun into non‐woven mats that exhibited high surface hydrophilicity and wettability. The polypeptide–polyester materials were biocompatible, bio‐based and environment‐friendly for promising wide applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Morphologies of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐PEG‐PCL) triblock copolymer self‐assemblies in the diluted solution and in gel were studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The copolymer self‐assembled into wormlike aggregates, of uniform diameter, in water. The wormlike aggregates arranged in order to form separate clusters in the diluted copolymer solution; at a higher copolymer concentration, the clusters became bigger and bigger, and packed together to form gel. Poly(D ,L -lactide)–poly(ϵ-caprolactone)–poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(ϵ-caprolactone)–poly(D ,L -lactide) block copolymer (PLA–PCL–PEG–PCL–PLA) was prepared by copolymerization of ϵ-caprolactone (ϵ-CL) and D ,L -lactide (D ,L -LA) initiated by potassium poly(ethylene glycol)ate in THF at 25°C. The copolymers with different composition were synthesized by adjusting the mole ratio of reaction mixture. The resulted copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR, DSC, and GPC. Efforts to prepare copolymers with the corresponding structure of PCL–PLA–PEG–PLA–PCL and D ,L -lactide/ϵ-caprolactone random copolymers were not successful. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Controllable phase segregation adjustment for immiscible polymer blends has always been tough, which hinders the development of amphiphilic antifouling coatings from more accessible blends. Herein, methacrylated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS‐MA) was synthesized and mixed with poly(ethylene glycol)methylether methacrylate (PEG‐MA). It was interestingly discovered that these PDMS‐MA/PEG‐MA blends displayed upper critical solution temperatures (UCST) due to thermo‐induced conformational change of PEG‐MA and the UCST changed with PDMS‐MA/PEG‐MA mass ratios. Micro‐/nano‐phase segregation, nanophase segregation, or homogenous morphology were therefore achieved. These PDMS‐MA/PEG‐MA blends with different mass ratios were UV‐cured under varying temperatures to fabricate coatings. Their surface morphology and wettability are readily adjusted by phase segregation. For the first time, highly hydrophilic surface was achieved for coatings with microphase segregation because of the exposure of PEG‐rich domains, which exhibited an enhanced protein resistance against bovine serum albumin (BSA). Anti‐bacterial performance (Shewanella loihica) was also observed for these PDMS/PEG coatings. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2016 , 54, 1612–1623  相似文献

Biodegradable, amphiphilic, four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PCL‐b‐PEO) copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the presence of four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) with terminal OH groups with diethylzinc (ZnEt2) as a catalyst. The chemical structure of PCL‐b‐PEO copolymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The hydroxyl end groups of the four‐armed PCL were successfully substituted by PEO blocks in the copolymer. The monomodal profile of molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography provided further evidence for the four‐armed architecture of the copolymer. Physicochemical properties of the four‐armed block copolymers differed from their starting four‐armed PCL precursor. The melting points were between those of PCL precursor and linear poly(ethylene glycol). The length of the outer PEO blocks exhibited an obvious effect on the crystallizability of the block copolymer. The degree of swelling of the four‐armed block copolymer increased with PEO length and PEO content. The micelle formation of the four‐armed block copolymer was examined by a fluorescent probe technique, and the existence of the critical micelle concentration (cmc) confirmed the amphiphilic nature of the resulting copolymer. The cmc value increased with increasing PEO length. The absolute cmc values were higher than those for linear amphiphilic block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Crystalline thermosetting blends composed of 2,2′‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane‐crosslinked epoxy resin (ER) and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) were investigated by means of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and high‐resolution solid‐state NMR spectroscopy. FTIR investigations indicated that there were specific intermolecular interactions between ER and PCL and that the intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions were weaker than the self‐association in pure epoxy. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding was considered to be the driving force for the miscibility of the thermosetting blends. For the examination of the miscibility of the thermosetting blends at the molecular level, high‐resolution solid‐state 13C cross‐polarity/magic‐angle spinning (CP‐MAS) NMR spectroscopy was employed. The line width of 13C CP‐MAS spectra decreased with increasing PCL contents, and the chemical shift of the carbonyl carbon resonance of PCL shifted to a low field with an increasing epoxy content in the blends. The proton spin–lattice relaxation experiments in the laboratory frame showed that all the blends possessed identical, composition‐dependent relaxation times (i.e., the proton spin–lattice relaxation times in the laboratory frame), suggesting that the thermosetting blends were homogeneous on the scale of 20–30 nm in terms of the spin‐diffusion mechanism, and this was in a good agreement with the results of differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis. For the examination of the miscibility of the blends at the molecular level, the behavior of the proton lattice relaxation in the rotating frame was investigated. The homogeneity of the thermosetting blends at the molecular level was quite dependent on the blend composition. The PCL‐lean ER/PCL blends (e.g., 70/30) displayed a single homogeneous amorphous phase, and the molecular chains were intimately mixed on the segmental scale. The PCL‐rich blends displayed biexponential decay in experiments concerning the proton spin–lattice relaxation times in the rotating frame, which was ascribed to amorphous and crystalline phases. In the amorphous region, the molecular chains of epoxy and PCL were intimately mixed at the molecular level. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymers consisting of amorphous main chain, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), or poly(methyl acrylate) (PMAc), and crystalline side chains, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), have been prepared by copolymerization of PEG macromonomers with methyl methacrylate or methyl acrylate (MMAx or MACx, respectively). Because of the compatibility of PMMA/PEG and PMAc/PEG, from small‐angle X‐ray scattering results, the main and side chains in graft copolymers were suggested to be homogeneous in the molten state. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) cooling scans revealed that PEG side chains for graft copolymers with large PEG fractions were crystallized when the sample was cooled, with a cooling rate of 10 °C/min. The spherulite pattern observed by a polarized optical microscope suggested the growth of PEG crystalline lamellae. Crystallization of PEG in MMAx was more restrained than in MACx. From these results, we have concluded that the crystallization behavior of the grafted side chains is strongly influenced by the glass transition of a homogeneously molten sample as well as dilution of the crystallizable chains. Domain spacings for isothermally crystallized graft copolymers were described by interdigitating chain packing in crystalline–amorphous lamellar structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A miscibility and phase behavior study was conducted on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)/poly(l ‐lactide‐ε‐caprolactone) (PLA‐co‐CL) blends. A single glass transition evolution was determined by differential scanning calorimetry initially suggesting a miscible system; however, the unusual Tg bias and subsequent morphological study conducted by polarized light optical microscopy (PLOM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) evidenced a phase separated system for the whole range of blend compositions. PEG spherulites were found in all blends except for the PEG/PLA‐co‐CL 20/80 composition, with no interference of the comonomer in the melting point of PEG (Tm = 64 °C) and only a small one in crystallinity fraction (Xc = 80% vs. 70%). However, a clear continuous decrease in PEG spherulites growth rate (G) with increasing PLA‐co‐CL content was determined in the blends isothermally crystallized at 37 °C, G being 37 µm/min for the neat PEG and 12 µm/min for the 20 wt % PLA‐co‐CL blend. The kinetics interference in crystal growth rate of PEG suggests a diluting effect of the PLA‐co‐CL in the blends; further, PLOM and AFM provided unequivocal evidence of the interfering effect of PLA‐co‐CL on PEG crystal morphology, demonstrating imperfect crystallization in blends with interfibrillar location of the diluting amorphous component. Significantly, AFM images provided also evidence of amorphous phase separation between PEG and PLA‐co‐CL. A true Tg vs. composition diagram is proposed on the basis of the AFM analysis for phase separated PEG/PLA‐co‐CL blends revealing the existence of a second PLA‐co‐CL rich phase. According to the partial miscibility established by AFM analysis, PEG and PLA‐co‐CL rich phases, depending on blend composition, contain respectively an amount of the minority component leading to a system presenting, for every composition, two Tg's that are different of those of pure components. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PEG/PDMAEMA) double hydrophilic block copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization using mPEG‐Br or Br‐PEG‐Br as macroinitiators. The narrow molecular weight distribution of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers was identified by gel permeation chromatography results. The thermosensitivity of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers in aqueous solution was revealed to depend significantly on pH, ionic strength, chain structure, and concentration of the block copolymers. By optimizing these factors, the cloud point temperature of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers can be limited within body temperature range (30–37 °C), which suggests that PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers could be a good candidate for drug delivery systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined drug‐conjugated amphiphilic A2B2 miktoarm star copolymers [(PCL)2‐(PEG)2‐D] were prepared by the combination of controlled ring‐opening polymerization (CROP) and “click” reaction strategy. First, bromide functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐Br) with double hydroxyl end groups was synthesized by the CROP of ε‐caprolactone using 2,2‐bis(bromomethyl)propane‐1,3‐diol as a difunctional initiator in the presence of Sn(Oct)2 at 110 °C. Next, the bromide groups of PCL‐Br were quantitatively converted to azide form by NaN3 to give PCL‐N3. Subsequently, the end hydroxyl groups of PCL‐N3 were capped with ibuprofen as a model drug at room temperature. Finally, copper(I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition reaction between ibuprofen‐conjugated PCL‐N3 and slightly excess alkyne‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (A‐PEG) led to ibuprofen‐conjugated A2B2 miktoarm star copolymer [(PCL)2‐(PEG)2‐D]. The excess A‐PEG was removed by dialysis. 1H NMR, FTIR and SEC analyzes confirmed the expected miktoarm star architecture. These amphiphilic miktoarm star copolymers could self‐assemble into multimorphological aggregates in aqueous solution, which were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, the drug‐loading capacity of these drug‐conjugated miktoarm star copolymers as well as their nondrug‐conjugated analogs were also investigated in detail. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The confined crystallization behavior, melting behavior, and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of the poly(ethylene glycol) block (PEG) in poly(L ‐lactide)–poly(ethylene glycol) (PLLA–PEG) diblock copolymers were investigated with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The analysis showed that the nonisothermal crystallization behavior changed from fitting the Ozawa equation and the Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny to deviating from them with the molecular weight of the poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) block increasing. This resulted from the gradual strengthening of the confined effect, which was imposed by the crystallization of the PLLA block. The nucleation mechanism of the PEG block of PLLA15000–PEG5000 at a larger degree of supercooling was different from that of PLLA2500–PEG5000, PLLA5000–PEG5000, and PEG5000 (the numbers after PEG and PLLA denote the molecular weights of the PEG and PLLA blocks, respectively). They were homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation, respectively. The PLLA block bonded chemically with the PEG block and increased the crystallization activation energy, but it provided nucleating sites for the crystallization of the PEG block, and the crystallization rate rose when it was heterogeneous nucleation. The number of melting peaks was three and one for the PEG homopolymer and the PEG block of the diblock copolymers, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New super‐tough poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/poly(ethylene‐octene) copolymer (PEO) blends containing 2 wt% poly(ethylene‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate) (EGMA) as a compatibilizer were obtained by extrusion and injection molding. The blends comprised of an amorphous PBT‐rich phase with some miscibilized EGMA, a pure PEO amorphous phase, and a crystalline PBT phase that was not influenced by the presence of either PEO or EGMA. The blends showed a fine particle size up to 20 wt% PEO content. Super‐tough blends were obtained with PEO contents equal to or higher than 10%. The maximum toughness was very high (above 710 J/m) and was attained with 20% PEO without chemical modification of the commercial components used. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
