Ambient afterglow luminescence from metal-free organic chromophores would provide a promising alternative to the well-explored inorganic phosphors. However, the realization of air-stable and solution-processable organic afterglow systems with long-lived triplet or singlet states remains a formidable challenge. In the present study, a delayed sensitization of the singlet state of organic dyes via phosphorescence energy transfer from organic phosphors is proposed as an alternative strategy to realize “afterglow fluorescence”. This concept is demonstrated with a long-lived phosphor as the energy donor and commercially available fluorescent dyes as the energy acceptor. Triplet-to-singlet Förster-resonance energy-transfer (TS-FRET) between donor and acceptor chromophores, which are co-organized in an amorphous polymer matrix, results in tuneable yellow and red afterglow from the fluorescent acceptors. Moreover, these afterglow fluorescent hybrids are highly solution-processable and show excellent air-stability with good quantum yields.  相似文献

We have synthesized two new low‐molecular‐mass organogelators based on tri‐p‐phenylene vinylene derivatives, one of which could be designated as the donor whereas the other one is an acceptor. These were prepared specifically to show the intergelator interactions at the molecular level by using donor–acceptor self‐assembly to achieve appropriate control over their macroscopic properties. Intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding, π‐stacking, and van der Waals interactions operate for both the individual components and the mixtures, leading to the formation of gels in the chosen organic solvents. Evidence for intergelator interactions was acquired from various spectroscopic, microscopic, thermal, and mechanical investigations. Due to the photochromic nature of these molecules, interesting photophysical properties, such as solvatochromism and J‐type aggregation, were clearly observed. An efficient energy transfer was exhibited by the mixture of donor–acceptor assemblies. An array of four chromophores was built up by inclusion of two known dyes (anthracene and rhodamine 6G) for the energy‐transfer studies. Interestingly, an energy‐transfer cascade was observed in the assembly of four chromophores in a particular order (anthracene‐donor‐acceptor‐rhodamine 6G), and if one of the components was removed from the assembly the energy transfer process was discontinued. This allowed the build up of a light‐harvesting process with a wide range. Excitation at one end produces an emission at the other end of the assembly.  相似文献

The unprecedented dependence of final charge separation efficiency as a function of donor–acceptor interaction in covalently‐linked molecules with a rectilinear rigid oligo‐p‐xylene bridge has been observed. Optimization of the donor–acceptor electronic coupling remarkably inhibits the undesirable rapid decay of the singlet charge‐separated state to the ground state, yielding the final long‐lived, triplet charge‐separated state with circa 100 % efficiency. This finding is extremely useful for the rational design of artificial photosynthesis and organic photovoltaic cells toward efficient solar energy conversion.  相似文献

A small series of donor–acceptor molecular dyads has been synthesized and fully characterized. In each case, the acceptor is a dicyanovinyl unit and the donor is a boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dye equipped with a single styryl arm bearing a terminal amino group. In the absence of the acceptor, the BODIPY‐based dyes are strongly fluorescent in the far‐red region and the relaxed excited‐singlet states possess significant charge‐transfer character. As such, the emission maxima depend on both the solvent polarity and temperature. With the corresponding push–pull molecules, there is a low‐energy charge‐transfer state that can be observed by both absorption and emission spectroscopy. Here, charge‐recombination fluorescence is weak and decays over a few hundred picoseconds or so to recover the ground state. Overall, these results permit evaluation of the factors affecting the probability of charge‐recombination fluorescence in push–pull dyes. The photophysical studies are supported by cyclic voltammetry and DFT calculations.  相似文献

A convenient protocol to fabricate an organic–inorganic hybrid system with covalently bound light‐harvesting chromophores (stilbene and terphenylene–divinylene) and an electron acceptor (titanium oxide) is described. Efficient energy‐ and electron‐transfer processes may take place in these systems. Covalent bonding between the acceptor chromophores and the titania/silica matrix would be important for electron transfer, whereas fluorescence resonant energy transfer (FRET) would strongly depend on the ratio of donor to acceptor chromophores. Time‐resolved spectroscopy was employed to elucidate the detailed photophysical processes. The coupling of FRET and electron transfer was shown to work coherently to lead to photocurrent enhancement. The photocurrent responses reached a maximum when the hybrid‐material thin film contained 60 % acceptor and 40 % donor.  相似文献

Amphiphilic pyrene/perylene bis-chromophore dyes were synthesized from unsymmetrically substituted perylene bisimide dyes, which were obtained through three synthetic methods. The optical and aggregation behaviors of these functional dyes were studied by means of UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and TEM. These dyes are highly fluorescent and cover the whole visible-light region. A donor/acceptor dye displays intramolecular fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), with a high efficiency of up to 96.4 % from pyrene to perylene bisimide chromophores, which leads to a high fluorescence color sensitivity to environmental polarity. Under a λ=365 nm UV lamp, the light-emitting colors of the donor/acceptor dye change from green to yellow with increasing solvent polarity, which demonstrates application potential as a new class of FERT probes. The donor/acceptor dye in water was assembled into hollow vesicles with a narrow size distribution. The bilayer structure of the vesicular wall was directly observed by means of TEM. These vesicular aggregates in water are fluorescent at λ=650–850 nm within the near-infrared region.  相似文献

Light harvesting is a key step in photosynthesis but creation of synthetic light‐harvesting systems (LHSs) with high efficiencies has been challenging. When donor and acceptor dyes with aggregation‐induced emission were trapped within the interior of cross‐linked reverse vesicles, LHSs were obtained readily through spontaneous hydrophobically driven aggregation of the dyes in water. Aggregation in the confined nanospace was critical to the energy transfer and the light‐harvesting efficiency. The efficiency of the excitation energy transfer (EET) reached 95 % at a donor/acceptor ratio of 100:1 and the energy transfer was clearly visible even at a donor/acceptor ratio of 10 000:1. Multicolor emission was achieved simply by tuning the donor/acceptor feed ratio in the preparation and the quantum yield of white light emission from the system was 0.38, the highest reported for organic materials in water to date.  相似文献

Carbon dots (CDs) with room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) have attracted dramatically growing interest in optical functional materials. However, the photoluminescence mechanism of CDs is still a vital and challenging topic. In this work, we prepared CD-based RTP materials via melting boric acid with various lengths of alkyl amine compounds as precursors. The spatial effect on the structure and the RTP properties of CDs were systematically investigated. With the increase in carbon chain length, the interplanar spacing of the carbon core expands and crosslink-enhanced emission weakens, resulting in a decrease in the phosphorescence intensity and lifetimes. Meanwhile, based on triplet-to-singlet resonance energy transfer, we employed intense and long-lived phosphorescence CDs as the donor and short-lived fluorescent dyes as the acceptor to achieve long-lived multicolor afterglow. By the triplet-to-singlet resonance energy transfer, the afterglow color can change from green to orange. The afterglow lifetimes are more than 0.9 s. Thanks to the outstanding afterglow properties, the composites were used for time-resolved and multiple-color advanced anticounterfeiting. This work will promote the design of multicolor and long-lived afterglow materials and expand their applications.  相似文献

We report the first highly efficient artificial light‐harvesting systems based on nanocrystals of difluoroboron chromophores to mimic the chlorosomes, one of the most efficient light‐harvesting systems found in green photosynthetic bacteria. Uniform nanocrystals with controlled donor/acceptor ratios were prepared by simple coassembly of the donors and acceptors in water. The light‐harvesting system funneled the excitation energy collected by a thousand donor chromophores to a single acceptor. The well‐defined spatial organization of individual chromophores in the nanocrystals enabled an energy transfer efficiency of 95 %, even at a donor/acceptor ratio as high as 1000:1, and a significant fluorescence of the acceptor was observed up to donor/acceptor ratios of 200 000:1.  相似文献

A novel multimodular donor–acceptor polyad featuring zinc porphyrin, fullerene, ferrocene, and triphenylamine entities was designed, synthesized, and studied as a charge‐stabilizing, photosynthetic‐antenna/reaction‐center mimic. The ferrocene and fullerene entities, covalently linked to the porphyrin ring, were distantly separated to accomplish the charge‐separation/hole‐migration events leading to the creation of a long‐lived charge‐separated state. The geometry and electronic structures of the newly synthesized compound was deduced by B3LYP/3‐21G(*) optimization, while the energy levels for different photochemical events was established using data from the optical absorption and emission, and electrochemical studies. Excitation of the triphenylamine entities revealed singlet‐singlet energy transfer to the appended zinc porphyrin. As predicted from the energy levels, photoinduced electron transfer from both the singlet and triplet excited states of the zinc porphyrin to fullerene followed by subsequent hole migration involving ferrocene was witnessed from the transient absorption studies. The charge‐separated state persisted for about 8.5 μs and was governed by the distance between the final charge‐transfer product, that is, a species involving a ferrocenium cation and a fullerene radical anion, with additional influence from the charge‐stabilizing triphenylamine entities located on the zinc‐porphyrin macrocycle.  相似文献

The photostability of organic dyes plays a very important role in practically all aspects of the development and applications of these dyes. In recent years, intramolecular transfer of triplet excitation energy between isolated chromophores on the same molecule has been a subject of intensive studies. Many multi-chromophoric organic dyes with covalent linkage between the chromophores, one of which can act as a triplet acceptor of the excess energy, have been synthesized and studied. The significant increases in photostability of such assembled dyes have been reported, suggesting that some chromophores can act as internal photostabilizers. These modified dyes have enhanced photostability and hence potential applications in a wide range of areas such as laser dyes, electroluminescent (EL) devices and solar cells.  相似文献

Two novel chromophore‐labeled dendrimers are presented and their incorporation into two‐component, single layer organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is described. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra, both in solution and in the solid state, demonstrate that Forster energy transfer from the donor chromophores on the dendrimers periphery to the acceptors located at the core is highly efficient, and affords emission exclusively from the core dyes, either coumarin 343 or a benzene‐capped pentathiophene. When these dendrimers are doped into single layer OLEDs, the electroluminescence (EL) is nearly identical to the photoluminescence described above, indicating once again exclusive emission from the core chromophores.  相似文献

We used lanthanide-ion doped oxide nanoparticles, Y(0.6)Eu(0.4)VO(4), as donors in fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET) experiments. The choice of these nanoparticles allows us to combine the advantages of the lanthanide-ion emission, in particular the long lifetime and the large Stokes shift between absorption and emission, with the detectability of the nanoparticles at the single-particle level. Using cyanine 5 (Cy5) organic molecules as acceptors, we demonstrated FRET down to the single-nanoparticle level. We showed that, due to the long donor lifetime, unambiguous and precise FRET measurements can be performed in solution even in the presence of large free acceptor concentrations. Highly efficient energy transfer was obtained for a large number of acceptor molecules per donor nanoparticle. We determined FRET efficiencies as a function of Cy5 concentration which are in good agreement with a multiple acceptor-multiple donor calculation. On the basis of the donor emission recovery due to acceptor photobleaching, we demonstrated energy transfer from single-nanoparticle donors in fluorescence microscopy experiments.  相似文献

A new approach to two-photon excited photodynamic therapy has been developed. A dendritic array of eight donor chromophores capable of two-photon absorption (TPA) was covalently attached to a central porphyrin acceptor. Steady-state fluorescence measurements demonstrated that the donor chromophores transfer excited-state energy to the porphyrin with 97% efficiency. Two-photon excitation of the donor chromophores at 780 nm resulted in a dramatic increase in porphyrin fluorescence relative to a porphyrin model compound. Enhanced singlet oxygen luminescence was observed from oxygen-saturated solutions of the target compound under two-photon excitation conditions.  相似文献

A new solution‐processable acceptor‐acceptor conjugated copolymer ( P1 ) based on perylene diimide (PDI) incorporating planar electron‐deficient fluorenone was synthesized by palladium(0)‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Relative to the donor‐acceptor conjugated copolymer ( P2 ) of PDI and dithienothiophene, polymer P1 exhibits 0.1 eV down shift of lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level, 70 nm blue shift of low‐energy absorption band, and 0.36 eV increase of optical band gap. Polymer P1 in top‐contact bottom‐gate organic field‐effect transistors exhibits a saturation electron mobility of 0.01 cm2/(V s) in air, while P2 does not function in the same device in air. The better air stability of P1 is attributed to a more dense packing of the polymer chains excluding oxygen or water and lower LUMO level of P1 . © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Photoinduced electron transfer in donor-bridge-acceptor systems with zinc porphyrin (or its pyridine complex) as the donor and gold(III) porphyrin as the acceptor has been studied. The porphyrin moieties were covalently linked with geometrically similar bridging chromophores which vary only in electronic structure. Three of the bridges are fully conjugated pi-systems and in a fourth, the conjugation is broken. For systems with this bridge, the quenching rate of the singlet excited state of the donor was independent of solvent and corresponded to the rate of singlet energy transfer expected for a F?rster mechanism. In contrast, systems with a pi-conjugated bridging chromophore show a solvent-dependent quenching rate that suggests electron transfer in the Marcus normal region. This is supported by picosecond transient absorption measurements, which showed formation of the zinc porphyrin radical cation only in systems with pi-conjugated bridging chromophores. On the basis of the Marcus and Rehm-Weller equations, an electronic coupling of 5-20 cm(-)(1) between the donor and acceptor is estimated for these systems. The largest coupling is found for the systems with the smallest energy gap between the donor and bridge singlet excited states. This is in good agreement with the coupling calculated with quantum mechanical methods, as is the prediction of an almost zero coupling in the systems with a nonconjugated bridging chromophore.  相似文献

A series of dipolar donor–acceptor (D –A) chromophores with aminothiophene donor and different heterocyclic acceptor units is reported. By modulation of the acceptor strength, absorption bands over the whole visible spectrum are accessible as well as adjustment of the frontier molecular orbital levels. The performance of the chromophores in blends with fullerene acceptors in solution‐processed bulk heterojunction solar cells was studied and related to the molecular properties of the dyes. In particular, the effect of the large ground‐state dipole moments of these dyes was investigated by single crystal X‐ray analysis, which revealed antiparallel dimers, resulting in an annihilation of the dipole moments. This specific feature of supramolecular organization explains the excellent performance of merocyanine dyes in organic solar cells. With blends of HB366 :PC71BM, the most efficient solar cell with a VOC of 1.0 V, a JSC of 10.2 mA cm?2, and a power‐conversion efficiency of 4.5 % was achieved under standard AM1.5, 100 mW cm?2 conditions. Under reduced lighting conditions, even higher efficiencies up to 5.1 % was obtained.  相似文献

The work presented herein is devoted to the fabrication of large Stokes shift dyes in both organic and aqueous media by combining dark resonance energy transfer (DRET) and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in one donor–acceptor system. In this respect, a series of donor–acceptor architectures of 4,4‐difluoro‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (BODIPY) dyes substituted by one, two, or three tetraphenylethene (TPE) luminogens were designed and synthesised. The photophysical properties of these three chromophore systems were studied to provide insight into the nature of donor–acceptor interactions in both THF and aqueous media. Because the generation of emissive TPE donor(s) is strongly polarity dependent, due to its aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) feature, one might expect the formation of appreciable fluorescence emission intensity with a very large pseudo‐Stokes shift in aqueous media when considering FRET process. Interestingly, similar results were also recorded in THF for the chromophore systems, although the TPE fragment(s) of the dyes are non‐emissive. The explanation for this photophysical behaviour lies in the DRET. This is the first report on combining two energy‐transfer processes, namely, FRET and DRET, in one polarity‐sensitive donor–acceptor pair system. The accuracy of the dark‐emissive donor property of the TPE luminogen is also presented for the first time as a new feature for AIE phenomena.  相似文献

The target artificial light‐harvesting antenna, comprising 21 discrete chromophores arranged in a logical order, undergoes photochemical bleaching when dispersed in a thin plastic film. The lowest‐energy component, which has an absorption maximum at 660 nm, bleaches through first‐order kinetics at a relatively fast rate. The other components bleach more slowly, in part, because their excited‐state lifetimes are rendered relatively short by virtue of fast intramolecular electronic energy transfer to the terminal acceptor. Two of the dyes, these being close to the terminal acceptor but interconnected through a reversible energy‐transfer step, bleach by way of an autocatalytic step. Loss of the terminal acceptor, thereby switching off the energy‐transfer route, escalates the rate of bleaching of these ancillary dyes. The opposite terminal, formed by a series of eight pyrene‐based chromophores, does not bleach to any significant degree. Confirmation of the various bleaching steps is obtained by examination of an antenna lacking the terminal acceptor, where the autocatalytic route does not exist and bleaching is very slow.  相似文献
