This study analyzes multiobjective d-dimensional knapsack problems (MOd-KP) within a comparative analysis of three multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs): the ε-nondominated sorted genetic algorithm II (ε-NSGAII), the strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm 2 (SPEA2) and the ε-nondominated hierarchical Bayesian optimization algorithm (ε-hBOA). This study contributes new insights into the challenges posed by correlated instances of the MOd-KP that better capture the decision interdependencies often present in real world applications. A statistical performance analysis of the algorithms uses the unary ε-indicator, the hypervolume indicator and success rate plots to demonstrate their relative effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability for the MOd-KP instances analyzed. Our results indicate that the ε-hBOA achieves superior performance relative to ε-NSGAII and SPEA2 with increasing number of objectives, number of decisions, and correlative linkages between the two. Performance of the ε-hBOA suggests that probabilistic model building evolutionary algorithms have significant promise for expanding the size and scope of challenging multiobjective problems that can be explored.  相似文献

This paper focuses on branching strategies that are involved in branch and bound algorithms when solving multi-objective optimization problems. The choice of the branching variable at each node of the search tree constitutes indeed an important component of these algorithms. In this work we focus on multi-objective knapsack problems. In the literature, branching heuristics used for these problems are static, i.e., the order on the variables is determined prior to the execution. This study investigates the benefit of defining more sophisticated branching strategies. We first analyze and compare a representative set of classic branching heuristics and conclude that none can be identified as the best overall heuristic. Using an oracle, we highlight that combining branching heuristics within the same branch and bound algorithm leads to considerably reduced search trees but induces high computational costs. Based on learning adaptive techniques, we propose then dynamic adaptive branching strategies that are able to select the suitable heuristic to apply at each node of the search tree. Experiments are conducted on the bi-objective 0/1 unidimensional knapsack problem.  相似文献

The ε-constraint method is a well-known scalarization technique used for multiobjective optimization. We explore how to properly define the step size parameter of the method in order to guarantee its exactness when dealing with biobjective nonlinear integer problems. Under specific assumptions, we prove that the number of subproblems that the method needs to address to detect the complete Pareto front is finite. We report numerical results on portfolio optimization instances built on real-world data and show a comparison with an existing criterion space algorithm.  相似文献

Most real-life decision-making activities require more than one objective to be considered. Therefore, several studies have been presented in the literature that use multiple objectives in decision models. In a mathematical programming context, the majority of these studies deal with two objective functions known as bicriteria optimization, while few of them consider more than two objective functions. In this study, a new algorithm is proposed to generate all nondominated solutions for multiobjective discrete optimization problems with any number of objective functions. In this algorithm, the search is managed over (p − 1)-dimensional rectangles where p represents the number of objectives in the problem and for each rectangle two-stage optimization problems are solved. The algorithm is motivated by the well-known ε-constraint scalarization and its contribution lies in the way rectangles are defined and tracked. The algorithm is compared with former studies on multiobjective knapsack and multiobjective assignment problem instances. The method is highly competitive in terms of solution time and the number of optimization models solved.  相似文献

The Pareto-based approaches have shown some success in designing multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MEAs). Their methods of fitness assignment are mainly from the information of dominated and nondominated individuals. On the top of the hierarchy of MEAs, the strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA) has been elaborately designed with this principle in mind. In this paper, we propose a (μ+λ) multiobjective evolutionary algorithm ((μ+λ) MEA), which discards the dominated individuals in each generation. The comparisons of the experimental results demonstrate that the (μ+λ) MEA outperforms SPEA on five benchmark functions with less computational efforts.  相似文献

Global Multiobjective Optimization Using Evolutionary Algorithms   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Since the 60s, several approaches (genetic algorithms, evolution strategies etc.) have been developed which apply evolutionary concepts for simulation and optimization purposes. Also in the area of multiobjective programming, such approaches (mainly genetic algorithms) have already been used (Evolutionary Computation 3(1), 1–16).In our presentation, we consider a generalization of common approaches like evolution strategies: a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) for analyzing decision problems with alternatives taken from a real-valued vector space and evaluated according to several objective functions. The algorithm is implemented within the Learning Object-Oriented Problem Solver (LOOPS) framework developed by the author. Various test problems are analyzed using the MOEA: (multiobjective) linear programming, convex programming, and global programming. Especially for hard problems with disconnected or local efficient regions, the algorithms seems to be a useful tool.  相似文献

This paper presents a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) capable of handling stochastic objective functions. We extend a previously developed approach to solve multiple objective optimization problems in deterministic environments by incorporating a stochastic nondomination-based solution ranking procedure. In this study, concepts of stochastic dominance and significant dominance are introduced in order to better discriminate among competing solutions. The MOEA is applied to a number of published test problems to assess its robustness and to evaluate its performance relative to NSGA-II. Moreover, a new stopping criterion is proposed, which is based on the convergence velocity of any MOEA to the true Pareto optimal front, even if the exact location of the true front is unknown. This stopping criterion is especially useful in real-world problems, where finding an appropriate point to terminate the search is crucial.  相似文献

This paper presents a new multiobjective immune algorithm based on a multiple-affinity model inspired by immune system (MAM-MOIA). The multiple-affinity model builds the relationship model among main entities and concepts in multiobjective problems (MOPs) and multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs), including feasible solution, variable space, objective space, Pareto-optimal set, ranking and crowding distance. In the model, immune operators including clonal proliferation, hypermutation and immune suppression are designed to proliferate superior antibodies and suppress the inferiors. MAM-MOIA is compared with NSGA-II, SPEA2 and NNIA in solving the ZDT and DTLZ standard test problems. The experimental study based on three performance metrics including coverage of two sets, convergence and spacing proves that MAM-MOIA is effective for solving MOPs.  相似文献

We present a new multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA), called fast Pareto genetic algorithm (FastPGA), for the simultaneous optimization of multiple objectives where each solution evaluation is computationally- and/or financially-expensive. This is often the case when there are time or resource constraints involved in finding a solution. FastPGA utilizes a new ranking strategy that utilizes more information about Pareto dominance among solutions and niching relations. New genetic operators are employed to enhance the proposed algorithm’s performance in terms of convergence behavior and computational effort as rapid convergence is of utmost concern and highly desired when solving expensive multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). Computational results for a number of test problems indicate that FastPGA is a promising approach. FastPGA yields similar performance to that of the improved nondominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), a widely-accepted benchmark in the MOEA research community. However, FastPGA outperforms NSGA-II when only a small number of solution evaluations are permitted, as would be the case when solving expensive MOPs.  相似文献

Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) have become an increasingly popular tool for design and optimization tasks in real-world applications. Most of the popular baseline algorithms are pivoted on the use of Pareto-ranking (that is empirically inefficient) to improve the convergence to the Pareto front of a multi-objective optimization problem. This paper proposes a new ε-dominance MOEA (EDMOEA) which adopts pair-comparison selection and steady-state replacement instead of the Pareto-ranking. The proposed algorithm is an elitist algorithm with a new preservation technique of population diversity based on the ε-dominance relation. It is demonstrated that superior results could be obtained by the EDMOEA compared with other algorithms: NSGA-II, SPEA2, IBEA, ε-MOEA, PESA and PESA-II on test problems. The EDMOEA is able to converge to the Pareto optimal set much faster especially on the ZDT test functions with a large number of decision variables.  相似文献

The use of surrogate based optimization (SBO) is widely spread in engineering design to reduce the number of computational expensive simulations. However, “real-world” problems often consist of multiple, conflicting objectives leading to a set of competitive solutions (the Pareto front). The objectives are often aggregated into a single cost function to reduce the computational cost, though a better approach is to use multiobjective optimization methods to directly identify a set of Pareto-optimal solutions, which can be used by the designer to make more efficient design decisions (instead of weighting and aggregating the costs upfront). Most of the work in multiobjective optimization is focused on multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). While MOEAs are well-suited to handle large, intractable design spaces, they typically require thousands of expensive simulations, which is prohibitively expensive for the problems under study. Therefore, the use of surrogate models in multiobjective optimization, denoted as multiobjective surrogate-based optimization, may prove to be even more worthwhile than SBO methods to expedite the optimization of computational expensive systems. In this paper, the authors propose the efficient multiobjective optimization (EMO) algorithm which uses Kriging models and multiobjective versions of the probability of improvement and expected improvement criteria to identify the Pareto front with a minimal number of expensive simulations. The EMO algorithm is applied on multiple standard benchmark problems and compared against the well-known NSGA-II, SPEA2 and SMS-EMOA multiobjective optimization methods.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a general approach to generate all non-dominated solutions of the multi-objective integer programming (MOIP) Problem. Our approach, which is based on the identification of objective efficiency ranges, is an improvement over classical ε-constraint method. Objective efficiency ranges are identified by solving simpler MOIP problems with fewer objectives. We first provide the classical ε-constraint method on the bi-objective integer programming problem for the sake of completeness and comment on its efficiency. Then present our method on tri-objective integer programming problem and then extend it to the general MOIP problem with k objectives. A numerical example considering tri-objective assignment problem is also provided.  相似文献

In today’s manufacturing industry more than one performance criteria are considered for optimization to various degrees simultaneously. To deal with such hard competitive environments it is essential to develop appropriate multicriteria scheduling approaches. In this paper consideration is given to the problem of scheduling n independent jobs on a single machine with due dates and objective to simultaneously minimize three performance criteria namely, total weighted tardiness (TWT), maximum tardiness and maximum earliness. In the single machine scheduling literature no previous studies have been performed on test problems examining these criteria simultaneously. After positioning the problem within the relevant research field, we present a new heuristic algorithm for its solution. The developed algorithm termed the hybrid non-dominated sorting differential evolution (h-NSDE) is an extension of the author’s previous algorithm for the single-machine mono-criterion TWT problem. h-NSDE is devoted to the search for Pareto-optimal solutions. To enable the decision maker for evaluating a greater number of alternative non-dominated solutions, three multiobjective optimization approaches have been implemented and tested within the context of h-NSDE: including a weighted-sum based approach, a fuzzy-measures based approach which takes into account the interaction among the criteria as well as a Pareto-based approach. Experiments conducted on existing data set benchmarks problems show the effect of these approaches on the performance of the h-NSDE algorithm. Moreover, comparative results between h-NSDE and some of the most popular multiobjective metaheuristics including SPEA2 and NSGA-II show clear superiority for h-NSDE in terms of both solution quality and solution diversity.  相似文献

In this paper, a new general scalarization technique for solving multiobjective optimization problems is presented. After studying the properties of this formulation, two problems as special cases of this general formula are considered. It is shown that some well-known methods such as the weighted sum method, the ??-constraint method, the Benson method, the hybrid method and the elastic ??-constraint method can be subsumed under these two problems. Then, considering approximate solutions, some relationships between εε-(weakly, properly) efficient points of a general (without any convexity assumption) multiobjective optimization problem and ??-optimal solutions of the introduced scalarized problem are achieved.  相似文献

The diversity of solutions is very important for multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to deal with multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs). In order to achieve the goal, a new orthogonal evolutionary algorithm based on objective space decomposition (OEA/D) is proposed in this paper. To be specific, the objective space of an MOP is firstly decomposed into a set of sub-regions via a set of direction vectors, and OEA/D maintains the diversity of solutions by making each sub-region have a solution to the maximum extent. Also, the quantization orthogonal crossover (QOX) is used to enhance the search ability of OEA/D. Experimental studies have been conducted to compare this proposed algorithm with classic MOEA/D, NSGAII, NICA and D2MOPSO. Simulation results on six multi-objective benchmark functions show that the proposed algorithm is able to obtain better diversity and more evenly distributed Pareto fronts than other four algorithms.  相似文献

When the processing times of jobs are controllable, selected processing times affect both the manufacturing cost and the scheduling performance. A well known example for such a case that this paper specifically deals with is the turning operation on a CNC machine. Manufacturing cost of a turning operation is a nonlinear convex function of its processing time. In this paper, we deal with making optimal machine-job assignments and processing time decisions so as to minimize total manufacturing cost while the makespan being upper bounded by a known value, denoted as ?-constraint approach for a bicriteria problem. We then give optimality properties for the resulting single criterion problem. We provide alternative methods to compute cost lower bounds for partial schedules, which are used in developing an exact (branch and bound) algorithm. For the cases where the exact algorithm is not efficient in terms of computation time, we present a recovering beam search algorithm equipped with an improvement search procedure. In order to find improving search directions, the improvement search algorithm uses the proposed cost bounding properties. Computational results show that our lower bounding methods in branch and bound algorithm achieve a significant reduction in the search tree size that we need to traverse. Also, our recovering beam search and improvement search heuristics achieve solutions within 1% of the optimum on the average while they spent much less computational effort than the exact algorithm.  相似文献

We present variants of an ant colony optimization (MO-ACO) algorithm and of an evolutionary algorithm (SPEA2) for tackling multi-objective combinatorial optimization problems, hybridized with an iterative improvement algorithm and the robust tabu search algorithm. The performance of the resulting hybrid stochastic local search (SLS) algorithms is experimentally investigated for the bi-objective quadratic assignment problem (bQAP) and compared against repeated applications of the underlying local search algorithms for several scalarizations. The experiments consider structured and unstructured bQAP instances with various degrees of correlation between the flow matrices. We do a systematic experimental analysis of the algorithms using outperformance relations and the attainment functions methodology to asses differences in the performance of the algorithms. The experimental results show the usefulness of the hybrid algorithms if the available computation time is not too limited and identify SPEA2 hybridized with very short tabu search runs as the most promising variant. Recently, a general-purpose local-search heuristic method called extremal optimization (EO) has been successfully applied to some NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. This paper presents an investigation on EO with its application in numerical multiobjective optimization and proposes a new novel elitist (1 + λ) multiobjective algorithm, called multiobjective extremal optimization (MOEO). In order to extend EO to solve the multiobjective optimization problems, the Pareto dominance strategy is introduced to the fitness assignment of the proposed approach. We also present a new hybrid mutation operator that enhances the exploratory capabilities of our algorithm. The proposed approach is validated using five popular benchmark functions. The simulation results indicate that the proposed approach is highly competitive with the state-of-the-art multiobjective evolutionary algorithms. Thus MOEO can be considered a good alternative to solve numerical multiobjective optimization problems.  相似文献

This article presents six parallel multiobjective evolutionary algorithms applied to solve the scheduling problem in distributed heterogeneous computing and grid systems. The studied evolutionary algorithms follow an explicit multiobjective approach to tackle the simultaneous optimization of a system-related (i.e. makespan) and a user-related (i.e. flowtime) objectives. Parallel models of the proposed methods are developed in order to efficiently solve the problem. The experimental analysis demonstrates that the proposed evolutionary algorithms are able to efficiently compute accurate results when solving standard and new large problem instances. The best of the proposed methods outperforms both deterministic scheduling heuristics and single-objective evolutionary methods previously applied to the problem.  相似文献
