A survey was carried out to determine terrestrial gammaradiation dose rates, the concentration level of 238U and 232Th and α and β activities for the surface soil in Ulu Tiram, Malaysia A 125 measurements were performed using a NaI(T1) gamma-ray detector with crystal size of 1″ × 1″ on 15 soil samples collected from the site area about 102 km2 238U and 232Th concentrations were determined in soils by using hyper pure germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry. The activity of α and β from the surface soil was counted by using alpha beta counting system. The average value of 238U and 232Th concentrations in soil samples collected are 3.63±0.39 ppm within the range of 1.74±0.20 to 4.58±0.48 and 43.00±2.31 ppm within the range of 10.68±0.76 to 82 10±4.01 ppm, respectively. The average estimate of α and β activity in soil samples collected are 0.65±0.09 Bqg−1 and 0.68±0.08 Bqg−1, respectively. The average of terrestrial gamma-radiation dose rates measured in Ulu Tiram was found to be 200 nGy h−1, within the range of 96 to 409 nGy h−1. The population weighted outdoor annual effective dose was 1.2 mSv.  相似文献

This work presents the results of 137Cs, 40K, 232Th and 238U concentration (Bq kg−1) values in coastal marine sediments collected from 38 sites along the coastline of the island of Margarita, Venezuela. The purpose was to determine baseline values for these radionuclides in surface marine sediments and to detect if there were any anomalously high concentration values. Only three of the 38 sediments analyzed had measurable values above the detection limit of 0.9 Bq kg−1 for 137Cs and the highest only being 1.4 Bq kg−1. While, the concentration (Bq kg−1) ranges for the primordial radionuclides, 40K, 232Th and 238U were as follows: 12.2–211.7, <1.5–9.8 and <4.4–20.7, respectively. These concentration ranges for the primordial radionuclides can be considered as baseline values for surface marine sediments for areas that are considered not polluted by man or contaminated by nature. Finally, the concentration range of 137Cs can also be employed as baseline values, which only seem to have been the result of the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons in the past.  相似文献

In this study, 90Sr (540 keVβ ), 129I (150 keVβ ) and the gross beta radioactivity concentrations were determined for the samples of tea as the most leading consumed hot drink in the markets (processed and packaged for sale) in our country. Furthermore, the obtained data were statistically analyzed. For determination of 129I (150 keVβ), 90Sr (540 keVβ) and gross radioactivity concentrations in tea samples, a sensor system consisting of scintillation detector with BP4 probe sensitive to beta radiation and a radiation meter (ST7) configurable for windows at desired power was used.  相似文献

232Th activities in the South Adriatic Sea-water, surface sediment, mud with detritus, seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) samples, and the mullet (Mugilidae) species Mugil cephalus, as well as soil and sand from the Montenegrin Coast, were measured using the six-crystal spectrometer PRIPYAT-2M, which has relatively high detection efficiency and a good sensitivity, and allows a short acquisition time, and measuring samples of any shape, without preliminary preparation and calibration measurements for different sample geometries. An average 232Th activity concentration in surface soil layer is found to be 40.33 Bq kg−1, while in sand—4.7 Bq kg−1. The absorbed dose rate in air due to 232Th gamma radiation from surface soil layer ranged from 11.76 to 63.39 nGy h−1, with a mean of 24.06 nGy h−1. Corresponding average annual effective dose rate has been found to be 0.03 mSv y−1. The absorbed dose rates due to the thorium gamma radiation in air at 1 m above sand surface on the Montenegrin beaches have been found to be from 0.41 to 9.08 nGy h−1, while annual effective dose rates ranged from 0.0005 to 0.011 mSv y−1. 232Th activity concentration in seawater ranged from 0.06 to 0.22 Bq L−1, as in the mullet (Mugil cephalus) whole individuals from 0.63 to 1.67 Bq kg−1. Annual intake of 232Th by human consumers of this fish species has been estimated to provide an effective dose of about 0.003 mSv y−1.  相似文献

Inventories and fluxes of 210Pb, 228Ra and 226Ra were determined in sediment cores collected at nine stations covering of the southern South China Sea and Malacca Straits with the thickness of water column between 42 and 83 m depth. The inventories of 210Pb, 228Ra and 226Ra were calculated range from 0.15–2.55 Bq cm−2, 0.05–0.40 Bq cm−2 and 6.83–83.63 Bq cm−2, meanwhile the fluxes ranged from 0.005–0.079 Bq cm−2 yr−1, 0.009–0.048 Bq cm−2 yr−1 and 0.003–0.037 Bq cm−2 yr−1, respectively. The results show that the highest inventories and fluxes for 210Pb, 228Ra and 226Ra were found at station WC 01 and EC 05. Because there are additional sources of 210Pb, 228Ra and 226Ra, where water transport will brings more dissolved isotopes, influence of the transportation and deposition of suspended particles, fast rate of regeneration and greater production of those radionuclides and others.  相似文献

We determined 137Cs concentrations in deep water samples of the subtropical gyre in the South Pacific collected during the BEAGLE2003 cruise. This was done at an underground facility to achieve extremely low background γ-spectrometry, and we, therefore, obtained reliable values of 137Cs activity in the deeper layers. 137Cs activity in the layers between 2000 and 4500 m ranged from 7 ± 4 mBq m−3 to 25 ± 11 mBq m−3. The inventory of 137Cs in the water column from 2000 m to the sea bottom was estimated to be 20 ± 8 Bq m−2 to 94 ± 41 Bq m−2 in this region.  相似文献

Gracilaria edulis, an edible red marine macro algae from three high background radiation areas (Arockiapuram, Kadiapattinam and Kurumpanai) on the southwest coast of Tamil Nadu, and one low background radiation area (Mandapam) on the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu, in India, were studied for variations in average gross alpha and beta radiation activities. Significant variations in average gross beta activities were observed while alpha activities showed only marginal variation. The average gross alpha activity was recorded high (61.51 Bq kg 1) during the post southwest monsoon season, while it recorded lowest (25.48 Bq kg 1) during the post northeast monsoon season. Average gross beta activity varied between seasons with the lowest level (211.55 Bq Kg−1) during post southwest monsoon season and the highest (413.33 Bq kg 1) during post northeast monsoon season. Among the four locations, the gross alpha activity was high (70.95 ± 26.74 Bq Kg−1) in Arockiapuram and low (18.74 ± 6.32 Bq Kg−1) in Mandapam, while the gross beta activity was high (442.25 ± 168.53 Bq Kg−1) in Kurumpanai and low (158.63 ± 34.37 Bq Kg−1) in Mandapam. Average gross alpha activity in G. edulis was found significantly varying in terms of locations, while average gross beta activity for the same species recorded significant seasonal variation.  相似文献

A method that combines the use of non-destructive neutron activation analysis and high-resolution α spectrometry has been developed for determination of the activities of 234U and 238U in geological samples of low uranium content. The 238U content is determined by k0-based neutron activation analysis, whereas the 234U/238U relationship is measured by α spectrometry after isolation and electrodeposition of the uranium extracted from a lixiviation with 6 M HCl. The main advantage of the method is the simplicity of the chemical operations, including the fact that the steps destined to assure similar chemical state for the tracer and the uranium species present in the sample are not necessary. The method was applied to soil samples from sites of the North Peru Coast. Uranium concentration range 3–40 mg/kg and the isotopic composition correspond to natural uranium, with about 10% uncertainty.  相似文献

This paper deals with the distribution of 210Po in the river bank soil samples of three major rivers namely Bharathapuzha, Periyar and Kallada river of Kerala. The dependence of 210Po activity on organic matter content in the samples was also studied. The soil samples were collected and analyzed for 210Po radionuclide using standard radiochemical analytical method. Activity of 210Po increases with increase in organic matter content in samples. Along the Bharathapuzha river bank the 210Po activity ranges from 2.96 to 12.48 Bq kg−1 with mean 5.62 Bq kg−1. The organic matter percentage in the samples ranges from 0.4 to 2.8 and a good correlation with correlation coefficient 0.9 was found between activity and organic matter percentage. In the Periyar river environs 210Po activity ranges from 3.47 to 13.39 Bq kg−1 with mean value 9.27 Bq kg−1. Organic matter percentage in these samples ranges from 1.20 to 4.10 and the correlation coefficient between 210Po activity and organic matter percentage was found to be 0.8 In the Kallada river bank soil samples 210Po activity ranges from 4.46 to 6.45 Bq kg−1. The organic matter percentage ranges from 1.4 to 3. The correlation coefficient between 210Po activity and organic matter percentage in the samples was found to be 0.9.  相似文献

A rapid, accurate and less labor intensive approach to determining 226Ra in environmental samples was examined; this utilized quadrupole-based inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-QMS). The procedure used chemical separation by ion exchange chromatography to remove most of the matrices after coprecipitation with BaSO4. The average chemical recovery of the NIST SRM preparation method ranged from 60.5 to 85.9% using 133Ba as internal tracer by gamma counting. This technique was capable of completing a 226Ra measurement within 3 min. It did not require an in-growth period to allow radon and its progeny to achieve secular equilibrium with the parent 226Ra as is needed for liquid scintillation analyzer (LSA). The method detection limits for the determination of 226Ra in geothermal water and sediment samples were 0.02 mBq L−1 (0.558 fg L−1) and 0.10 Bq kg−1 (2.79 fg g−1), respectively. The results obtained with various natural samples and the suitability of the method when applied to various environmental matrices such as geothermal water and sediment are discussed. When ICP-QMS was compared to double-focusing magnetic sector field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-SFMS), good agreement was obtained with a correlation coefficient, r 2 = 0.982.  相似文献

New data are presented on 238U concentrations in surface and ground waters sampled at selected uranium mining sites in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and in water supplies of settlements located in the vicinity of these sites. Radiochemical neutron activation analysis (RNAA) was used for 238U determination in all cases. In addition, for data accuracy assessments purposes, a sub-set of these samples was analysed by high-resolution alpha spectrometry, following standard radiochemical separation and purification. Our data show that drinking waters sampled at various settlements located close to the uranium mining sites are characterised by relatively low uranium concentrations (1.9–35.9 μg L−1) compared to surface waters sampled within the same sites. The latter show high concentrations of total uranium, reflecting the influence from the radioactive waste generated as a result of uranium ore production.  相似文献

The specific activities of the naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 232Th, and 40K were measured in rock samples from the Hetaunda area, central Nepal, using gamma spectrometry. The specific activities were found to be in the range of 17–95 Bq kg−1 for 238U, 24–260 Bq kg−1 for 232Th and 32–541 Bq kg−1 for 40K. From these data absorbed dose rates in air and annual effective doses were calculated and compared with respective data from the UNSCEAR compilation. The results from our study open the door to the safe applicability of most of the investigated materials as a cheep building material.  相似文献

An intercomparison of the methodology (alpha, beta and gamma spectrometry) used for 238U, 235U and 210Pb determination was carried out based on 38 sediment samples. The activity range of the samples varied from 10–700 Bq/kg for 210Pb, 1–35 Bq/kg for 235U and 10–800 Bq/kg for 238U. Results obtained using the three methods were not statistically different at high activity levels, but agreement between the results decreased at lower sample activity levels. For 210Pb, the smallest difference was found between alpha and gamma spectrometry. A good correlation between results from alpha and gamma spectrometry was observed over the whole activity range. In beta spectrometry, the results were slightly higher than those obtained by alpha or gamma spectrometry due to the impurity of 228Ra. In 238U analysis, good correspondence was observed between 238U determined by gamma and alpha spectrometry, particularly at higher 238U activity concentrations over 100 Bq/kg. In 235U analysis, attention needs to be paid to interference from 226Ra and its reduction.  相似文献

14C releases in the stack air of the NPPs V1 and V2, Jaslovske Bohunice was determined during the year 2004–2010. Radioactivity concentration of 14C in the stack air was determined in the forms of inorganic 14CO2 and 14C n H m . The annual average activity concentration in the stacks air samples varies between 12 and 121 Bq m−3. NPP V1, starting with 45 Bq m−3 in 2005 is decreasing due to the shutting down of the reactors (the first reactor was shut down in December 2006 and the second reactor in December 2008). The average value of radioactivity concentration for power unit V2 was 32 Bq m−3 in 2004 and reached the value of 102 Bq m−3 in the first-quarter of the 2010. The average normalized yearly discharge rates were between 0.39 and 0.64 TBq GWe−1 year−1 (2005–2008), NPP V1 and 0.19–0.61 TBq GWe−1 year−1 (2004–first-quarter 2010) for NPP V2, Jaslovske Bohunice. Most of the discharged 14C is in a hydrocarbon form, (95% for Jaslovske Bohunice NPP V2), but the CO2 fraction may reach 37% in the air stack for Jaslovske Bohunice V1.  相似文献

The analysis of 226Ra in natural waters can be tedious and time-consuming. For the determination and differentiation of activities of 226Ra and 222Rn in drinking water by γ-ray spectrometry a simple and fast method is presented. Activities of 226Ra > 0.5 Bq L−1 can be determined according to stabilization of the sample without further procedures. For a more sensitive detection sample volumes of up to 5 litres are applicable by a rapid precipitation procedure without large expenditure. Further laborious enrichment methods are not necessary. Thus, detection limits of 0.1 Bq L−1 can be obtained when using sample volumes of 5 litres. Therefore the method is suitable for the monitoring of radioactivity in drinking water samples in accordance with the legal guidance of the European Union.  相似文献

The uptake of 238U and 232Th in different parts of some selected plants used in traditional treatment of hypertension and diabetes in south-eastern Morocco (Errachidia area) has been studied using two different types of solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) LR-115 type II and CR-39. Plant uptake of radionuclides is one of many vectors for introduction of contaminants into the human food chain. Thus, it is critical to understand soil–plant relationships that control nuclide bioavailability. Soil concentrations of uranium ranged from 6.10 to 11.62 ppm, with a mean of 7.90 ppm. Soil concentrations of thorium ranged from 2.70 to 4.80 ppm, with a mean of 3.41 ppm. Mean uranium specific activities were 8.38 Bq kg−1 in root tissue, 5 Bq kg−1 in stem tissue and 6.02 Bq kg−1 in leaf tissue. Mean thorium specific activities were 2.53 Bq kg−1 in root tissue, 1.64 Bq kg−1 in stem tissue and 1.96 Bq kg−1 in leaf tissue. The transfer factors of 238U and 232Th from soil to different parts (root, stem, leaf, seed and fruit) of studied plant samples have been investigated. The transfer factors obtained for root plants were markedly higher than those for leaf, stem, fruit and seed plants. Soil-to-plant transfer factor (TF) is one of the most important parameters to be used in transfer models for predicting the concentration of radionuclides in agricultural crops and for estimating dose impacts to man. This study of uranium and thorium uptake in plants used in traditional medicine is also significant as far as the health hazard effects of uranium and thorium in human being are concerned.  相似文献

The naturally occurring radioisotopes such as 238U, 232Th and 40K in the silt samples collected from Moticher lake, Gujarat were evaluated. The activity of 238U, 232Th and 40K was found to be 4.4-9.7 Bq kg−1 with a mean 6.4 ± 1.3 Bq kg−1, 10.5–21.2 Bq kg−1 with a mean 15.6 ± 2.5 Bq kg−1 and 102–231 Bq kg−1 with a mean 160 ± 40 Bq kg−1, respectively. The depth profile study could not reveal any significant vertical correlation on radioactivity levels of 238U, 232Th and 40K. Radium equivalent activity (Raeq), external hazard index (H ex) and internal hazard index (H int) were calculated by using the activity of 238U or 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in silt samples. Annual Effective Dose Equivalent (AEDE) level in Moticher silt was found to be 24.8 ± 5.0 μSv year−1, which is much lower than the worldwide average value. The relative contribution to dose due to 238U and 232Th series were found to be 14% and 53%, followed by the contribution of 33% due to 40K.  相似文献

The Intercomparison Studies Program (ISP) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL, Oak Ridge, TN USA) provides natural-matrix human urine quality-assurance/quality-control (QA/QC) samples to radiobioassay analysis laboratories. Samples are provided to these laboratories as “single-blind” or “double-blind” unknowns, spiked with radioactive-solution standards at “low” levels (e.g., 0.7–7 Bq g−1 for 3H and 0.7–7 Bq kg−1 for 90Sr). Participants use the results as a tool for self-evaluation and a measure of performance. In this paper, sample preparation and the results of testing during the years 2001–2005 for 3H and 90Sr are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Activities of 238U, 234U, 228Ra, 226Ra, and 224Ra as well as total α- and β-activities of 23 bottled spring, mineral and therapeutic waters produced and distributed in southern and central Poland are presented. The activities vary from a few tenth to a few mBq·L−1 for uranium and to several hundred mBq·L−1 for radium isotopes. The activities of 40K were calculated from chemical analyses of potassium and checked for several mineral waters by gamma-spectrometer coupled with an HPGe detector. Positive correlation between water mineralization and activities of 40K, 226Ra, as well as total alpha- and total beta-activities were observed. The radiological annual doses were calculated for all investigated waters and for different human age groups assuming the consumption of 1 liter of water per day. The calculated committed effective dose rate from uranium and radium isotopes resulting from consumption of the investigated waters exceeds the recommended value of 0.1 mSv per year in seventeen cases for infants and in one case for adults.  相似文献

The phosphate rocks used for the production of phosphate fertilizers present in their composition radionuclides of the U and Th series. During the chemical attack, the radionuclides are distributed to final products and phosphogypsum. A sequential radiochemical procedure was implemented to determine the content of radionuclides alpha emitters in samples of fertilizers and phosphogypsum produced in Brazil. The results obtained show that the levels of radioactivity present in the fertilizers are of the same order of magnitude on those found in the phosphogypsum, reaching values up to 1158 and 457 Bq kg−1, for the U and Th series, respectively.  相似文献
