Ab initio (HF, MP2, and CCSD(T)) and DFT (B3LYP) calculations were done in modeling the cation (H(+), Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), NH(4)(+), and NMe(4)(+)) interaction with aromatic side chain motifs of four amino acids (viz., phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan and histidine). As the metal ion approaches the pi-framework of the model systems, they form strongly bound cation-pi complexes, where the metal ion is symmetrically disposed with respect to all ring atoms. In contrast, proton prefers to bind covalently to one of the ring carbons. The NH(4)(+) and NMe(4)(+) ions have shown N-H...pi interaction and C-H...pi interaction with the aromatic motifs. The interaction energies of N-H...pi and C-H...pi complexes are higher than hydrogen bonding interactions; thus, the orientation of aromatic side chains in protein is effected in the presence of ammonium ions. However, the regioselectivity of metal ion complexation is controlled by the affinity of the site of attack. In the imidazole unit of histidine the ring nitrogen has much higher metal ion (as well as proton) affinity as compared to the pi-face, facilitating the in-plane complexation of the metal ions. The interaction energies increase in the order of 1-M < 2-M < 3-M < 4-M < 5-M for all the metal ion considered. Similarly, the complexation energies with the model systems decrease in the following order: Mg(2+) > Ca(2+) > Li(+) > Na(+) > K(+) congruent with NH(4)(+) > NMe(4)(+). The variation of the bond lengths and the extent of charge transfer upon complexation correlate well with the computed interaction energies.  相似文献

The geometries and energetics of complexes of Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Be(2+), Mg(2+), and Ca(2+)metal cations with different possible uric acid anions (urate) were studied. The complexes were optimized at the B3LYP level and the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Complexes of urate with Mg(2+), and Ca(2+)metal cations were also optimized at the MP2/6-31+G(d) level. Single point energy calculations were performed at the MP2/6-311++G(d,p) level. The interactions of the metal cations at different nucleophilic sites of various possible urate were considered. It was revealed that metal cations would interact with urate in a bi-coordinate manner. In the gas phase, the most preferred position for the interaction of Li(+), Na(+), and K(+) cations is between the N(3) and O(2) sites, while all divalent cations Be(2+), Mg(2+), and Ca(2+) prefer binding between the N(7) and O(6) sites of the corresponding urate. The influence of aqueous solvent on the relative stability of different complexes has been examined using the Tomasi's polarized continuum model. The basis set superposition error (BSSE) corrected interaction energy was also computed for complexes. The AIM theory has been applied to analyze the properties of the bond critical points (electron densities and their Laplacians) involved in the coordination between urate and the metal cations. It was revealed that aqueous solvation would have significant effect on the relative stability of complexes obtained by the interaction of urate with Mg(2+) and Ca(2+)cations. Consequently, several complexes were found to exist in the water solution. The effect of metal cations on different NH and CO stretching vibrational modes of uric acid has also been discussed.  相似文献

Interactions between metal ions and amino acids are common both in solution and in the gas phase. The effect of metal ions and water on the structure of L-arginine is examined. The effects of metal ions (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), and Zn(2+)) and water on structures of Arg x M(H2O)m , m = 0, 1 complexes have been determined theoretically by employing the density functional theories (DFT) and using extended basis sets. Of the three stable complexes investigated, the relative stability of the gas-phase complexes computed with DFT methods (with the exception of K(+) systems) suggests metallic complexes of the neutral L-arginine to be the most stable species. The calculations of monohydrated systems show that even one water molecule has a profound effect on the relative stability of individual complexes. Proton dissociation enthalpies and Gibbs energies of arginine in the presence of the metal cations Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), and Zn(2+) were also computed. Its gas-phase acidity considerably increases upon chelation. Of the Lewis acids investigated, the strongest affinity to arginine is exhibited by the Cu(2+) cation. The computed Gibbs energies DeltaG(o) are negative, span a rather broad energy interval (from -150 to -1500 kJ/mol), and are appreciably lowered upon hydration.  相似文献

Cation interactions with π-systems are a problem of outstanding contemporary interest and the nature of these interactions seems to be quite different for transition and main group metal ions. In this paper, we have systematically analyzed the contrast in the bonding of Cu(+) and main group metal ions. The molecular structures and energetics of the complexes formed by various alkenes (A = C(n)H(2n), n = 2-6; C(n)H(2n- 2), n = 3-8 and C(n)H(2n + 2), n = 5-10) and metal ions (M = Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Cu(+) and Zn(2+)) are investigated by employing ab initio post Hartree-Fock (MP2/6-311++G**) calculations and are reported in the current study. The study, which also aims to evaluate the effect of the size of the alkyl portion attached to the π-system on the complexation energy, indicates a linear relationship between the two. The decreasing order of complexation energy with various metal ion-alkene complexes follows the order Zn(2+)-A > Mg(2+)-A > Ca(2+)-A > Cu(+)-A > Li(+)-A > Na(+)-A > K(+)-A. The increased charge transfer and the electron density at (3,-1) intermolecular bond critical point corroborates well with the size of the π-system and the complexation energy. The observed deviation from the linear dependency of the Cu(+)-A complexes is attributed to the dπ→π* back bonding interaction. An energy decomposition analysis via the reduced variational space (RVS) procedure was also carried out to analyze which component among polarization, charge transfer, coulomb and exchange repulsion contributes to the increase in the complexation energy. The RVS results suggest that the polarization component significantly contributes to the increase in the complexation energy when the alkene size increases.  相似文献

The formation of complexes with different ligands in the interlayer space of montmorillonite saturated in Na(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Co(2+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Fe(3+), and Cr(3+) was studied. Acetone, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, and trimethylphosphate were used as ligands. The nature of the complexes was studied by means of X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, microcalorimetry, and ab initio quantum mechanical methods. In all cases, the organic ligands penetrate into the interlayer space at room temperature, forming complexes stable in vacuum with the interlayer cations. The ligand-cation ratio depends on the valence of the saturating cation. The cation-ligand interaction in these complexes has an ion-dipole electrostatic nature. The complexes are formed by the direct interaction of the oxygen or nitrogen atom of ligand and the interlayer cation. Using the quantum mechanical approach, allow us to determine the disposition of the ligand in these complexes. In all cases, only one layer of ligands is present in the stable complexes. The interactions of alkali metal cations (Li (+), Na (+), and K (+)) with the cup-shaped molecules, tris(bicyclo[2.2.1]hepteno)benzene and tris(7-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hepteno)benzene have been investigated using MP2(FULL)/6-311+G(d,p)//MP2/6-31G(d) level of theory. The geometries and interaction energies obtained for the metal ion complexation with the cup-shaped systems trindene and benzotripyrrole are compared with the results for benzene-metal ion complexes to examine the effect of ring addition to the benzene on structural and binding affinities. The cup-shaped molecules exhibit two faces or cavities (top and bottom). Except for one of the conformers of tris(7-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hepteno)benzene), the metal ions prefer to bind with the top face over bottom face of the cup-shaped molecules. The selectivity of the top face is due to strong interaction of the cation with the pi cloud not only from the central six-membered ring but also from the pi electrons of rim C=C bonds. In contrast, the metal ions under study exhibit preference to bind with the bottom face rather than top face of tris(7-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hepteno)benzene) when the lone pair of electrons of three nitrogen atoms participates in binding with metal ions. This bottom face selectivity could be ascribed to the combined effect of the cation-pi and strong cation-lone pair interactions. As evidenced from the values of pyramidalization angles, the host molecule becomes deeper bowl when the lone pair of electrons of nitrogen atoms participates in binding with cation. Molecular electrostatic potential surfaces nicely explain the cavity selectivity in the cup-shaped systems and the variation of interaction energies for different ligands. Vibrational frequency analysis is useful in characterizing different metal ion complexes and to distinguish top and bottom face complexes of metal ions with the cup-shaped molecules.  相似文献

A series of BODIPY (4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene) derivatives containing ion- and pH-sensory units have been successfully designed and synthesized. One of the compounds was structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Owing to the presence of an ICT absorption band, one of the compounds was found to show pronounced solvatochromic behavior in different organic solvents. Their emission energies in various solvents show a linear dependence on the Lippert solvent parameter. The cation-binding properties of the complexes with different metal ions (alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and transition metal ions) have been studied using UV-vis and emission spectroscopies. A 1?:?1 complexation to metal ions (Li(+), Na(+), Mg(2+), Ba(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+)) was found for the compound with one azacrown moiety in acetonitrile while another one with two azacrown moieties was shown to form 1?:?2 complexes with Zn(2+) and Mg(2+) cations. Their stability constants have been determined by both UV-vis and emission spectrophotometric methods. By introducing triarylborane moieties into the meso position and the 2-position of the BODIPY skeleton, different electronic absorption spectral changes together with an emission diminution were observed in response to fluoride ions. Ditopic binding study of 5, which was functionalized with both azacrown and triarylborane moieties, showed emission enhancement in the presence of Mg(2+) and F(-). These findings suggest that these BODIPY derivatives are capable of serving as versatile colorimetric and luminescence probes for pH, cations and F(-).  相似文献

The influence of metal cations Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Cs(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Sr(2+), Ba(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Pb(2+) and Al(3+) on the spectroscopic properties of the dansyl (1-dimethylaminonaphthalene-5-sulfonyl) group covalently linked to monoaza crown ethers 1-aza-15-crown-5 (1,4,7,10,-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecane) (A15C5) and 1-aza-crown-6 (1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxa-16-azacyclooctadecane) (A18C6) was investigated by means of absorption and emission spectrophotometry. Interaction of the alkali metal ions with both fluoroionophores is weak, while alkaline earth metal ions interact strongly causing 50 and 85% quenching of dansyl fluorescence of N-(5-dimethylamine-1-naphthalenesulfonylo)-1,4,7,10,-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecane (A15C5-Dns) and N-(5-dimethylamine-1-naphthalenesulfonylo)-1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxa-16-azacyclooctadecane (A18C6-Dns), respectively. The Cu(2+), Pb(2+) and Al(3+) cations interact very strongly with dansyl chromophore, causing a major change in absorption spectrum of the chromophore and forming non-fluorescent complexes. The Co(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Mg(2+) cations interact moderately with both fluoroionophores causing quenching of dansyl fluorescence by several percent only.  相似文献

Two new rhodamine based probes 1 and 2 for the detection of Fe(3+) were synthesized and their selectivity towards Fe(3+) ions in the presence of other competitive metal ions tested. The probe 1 formed a coloured complex with Fe(3+) as well as Cu(2+) ions and revealed the lack of adequate number of coordination sites for selective complexation with Fe(3+). Incorporation of a triazole unit to the chelating moiety of 1 resulted in the probe 2, that displayed Fe(3+) selective complex formation even in the presence of other competitive metal ions like Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Cu(2+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Sr(2+), Cr(3+), Mn(2+), Fe(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+) and Pb(2+). The observed limit of detection of Fe(3+) ions (5 × 10(-8) M) confirmed the very high sensitivity of 2. The excellent stability of 2 in physiological pH conditions, non-interference of amino acids, blood serum and bovine serum albumin (BSA) in the detection process, and the remarkable selectivity for Fe(3+) ions permitted the use of 2 in the imaging of live fibroblast cells treated with Fe(3+) ions.  相似文献

Quantum chemical [MP2(FULL)/6-311++G-(d,p)] calculations are done on the binding of hydrated Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Cu(+), and Zn(2+) metal ions with biologically relevant heteroaromatics such as imidazole and methylimidazole. The computed interaction energies are found to be in good agreement with the available experimental data. The effect of hydration on hydrogen bonding has been studied in detail and it shows that the hydrogen bond strength between H(2)O···H-N(1) substantially increases in the presence of metal ions. The present study quantifies the cooperativity between M···imidazole (M = Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Cu(+), and Zn(2+)) and N(1)-H···OH(2) interactions. Topological atoms in molecules (AIM) analysis and charge analysis support the variation in hydrogen-bonding strength and the variation in M···imidazole binding strength. Effect of hydration on N(1)-H stretching frequency is studied, and it shows a clear shift in the stretching frequency after sequential hydration of metal ion as well as the N(1) of imidazole. The present study provides a detailed account on the biologically important M-histidine motif interaction with metal ions, where histidine is modeled by imidazole and methylimidazole.  相似文献

The interaction of ferrioxamine B, FeHDFB(+), through a protonated amine side chain, with various host ionophore structures to form a host-guest complex in the second coordination shell has been investigated. Host-guest association constants (K(a)) in water saturated chloroform are reported for synthetic crown ethers with different cavity size and substituents (18-crown-6 and its dicyclohexano, benzo, and dibenzo derivatives; dibenzo and dicyclohexano derivatives of 24-crown-8; and dibenzo-30-crown-10). The natural ionophores valinomycin and nonactin were also found to form stable second-sphere complexes with ferrioxamine B in wet chloroform. Results are reported for both picrate and perchlorate salts of FeHDFB(+). Since the protonated amine side chain of ferrioxamine B may be viewed as a substituted amine, the host-guest association constants for FeHDFB(+) are compared to the interaction of Mg(2+), K(+), NH(4)(+), CH(3)(CH(2))(4)NH(3)(+), and H(4)DFB(+) with the same ionophores. This is the first report of nonactin complexation of this series of cations in an organic medium of low polarity and one of the few reports of valinomycin complexation. To the best of our knowledge these are the first reported stability constants for the association of (Mg(2+),2pic(-)) with natural and synthetic ionophores in chloroform. K(a) values for ferrioxamine B complexation by the synthetic crown ethers are influenced by ring size and substituent. Despite significant preorganization capabilities, the large cavities of valinomycin, nonactin and benzo-30-crown-10 do not form as stable host-guest assemblies with bulky substituted amine cations such as ferrioxamine B as does cis-dicyclohexano-18-crown-6.  相似文献

The varied and essential involvement of metal ions and inorganic salts in biological and chemical processes motivated the present study where 5-carboxy- and 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxanes are used as model frameworks for the evaluation of the conformational behavior of oxygen-containing receptors in the presence of Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Ag(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ba(2+), and Zn(2+). Thus, the position of equilibria, established by means of BF(3), between diastereomeric cis- and trans-5-substituted-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxanes, in solvent THF and in the presence of 0, 1, and 5 equiv of salt, has been determined. The observed Delta G(o) degrees values for the conformational equilibria of 5-carboxy-1,3-dioxane show that Ag(+), Li(+), and Ca(2+) complexation leads to increased stability of the axial isomer. In the case of the 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxane, Mg(2+), Ag(+), and Zn(2+) are the metal ions that stabilize the axial conformer of the heterocycle upon association. Interpretation of the experimental observations was based on DFT molecular modeling studies at the Becke3LYP/6-31G* and Becke3LYP/6-31+G** levels of theory. Although gas-phase calculations give Delta E values that are too large when modeling equilibria involving ionic species in polar solution, the computational results confirm the structural and energetic consequences of metal cation coordination to the oxygen atom in carbonyls or ethers. The results derived from the present study contribute to our understanding of the chemical processes involved in molecular recognition and physiological events.  相似文献

A new terphenyl-based macrocycle 5 incorporating phenanthroline as a fluorophore has been designed, synthesized and examined for its recognition ability toward various cations (Pb(2+), Hg(2+), Ba(2+), Cd(2+), Ag(+), Zn(2+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Co(2+), K(+), Mg(2+), Na(+) and Li(+)) by UV-vis, fluorescence and NMR spectroscopy. The receptor 5 showed highly selective 'Off-On' fluorescence signaling behavior for Zn(2+) ions in THF. Interestingly, the addition of H(2)PO(4)(-) ions to the [5-Zn] complex regulates the binding site for additional Zn(2+) ions and hence leads to a blue-shifted emission band.  相似文献

Hydration of mono- and divalent metal ions (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Be(2+), Mg(2+) and Ca(2+)) has been studied using the DFT (B3LYP), second-order M?ller-Plesset (MP2) and CCSD(T) perturbation theory as well as the G3 quantum chemical methods. Double-zeta and triple-zeta basis sets containing both (multiple) polarization and diffuse functions were applied. Total and sequential binding energies are evaluated for all metal-water clusters containing 1-6 water molecules. Total binding energies predicted at lower levels of theory are compared with those from the high level G3 calculations, whereas the sequential binding energies are compared with available experimental values. An increase in the quality of the basis set from double-zeta to triple-zeta has a significant effect on the sequential binding energies, irrespective of the geometries used. Within the same group (I or II), the sequential binding energy predictions at the MP2 and B3LYP vary appreciably. We noticed that, for each addition of a water molecule, the change of the M-O distance in metal-water clusters is higher at the B3LYP than at the MP2 level. The charge of the metal ion decreases monotonically as the number of water molecules increase in the complex.  相似文献

A polypyridyl ligand, 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexakis(2-pyridyl)dipyrazino[2,3-f:2',3'-h]quinoxaline (HPDQ), was found to have excellent fluorescent selectivity for Cd(2+) over many other metal ions (K(+), Na(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Mn(2+), Fe(2+), Ni(2+), Co(2+), Cu(2+), Ag(+), Hg(2+), Zn(2+), and Cr(3+)) based on the intramolecular charge-transfer mechanism, which makes HPDQ a potential fluorescence sensor or probe for Cd(2+). An obvious color change between HPDQ and HPDQ + Cd(2+) can be visually observed by the naked eye. The structure of the complex HPDQ-Cd has been characterized by X-ray crystallography. Density functional theory calculation results on the HPDQ and HPDQ-Cd complexes could explain the experimental results.  相似文献

The first example of a new Hg(2+)-sensing system based on the structures of complexes is reported. The system uses a combination of a new chiral bidentate ligand and CD spectroscopy. Significant CD spectral changes are observed when Hg(2+) is added, whereas no CD spectral changes are observed in the cases of Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Mn(2+), Fe(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Rb(+), Ag(+), Cd(2+), La(3+), Gd(3+), and Pb(2+).  相似文献

Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) is a serine/threonine kinase that requires two cofactor Mg(2+) ions for catalysis in regulating many important cellular signals. Experimentally, Li(+) is a competitive inhibitor of GSK3β relative to Mg(2+), while this mechanism is not experienced with other group I metal ions. Herein, we use native Mg(2)(2+)-Mg(1)(2+) GSK3β and its Mg(2)(2+)-M(1)(+) (M = Li, Na, K, and Rb) derivatives to investigate the effect of metal ion substitution on the mechanism of inhibition through two-layer ONIOM-based quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The results of ONIOM calculations elucidate that the interaction of Na(+), K(+), and Rb(+) with ATP is weaker compared to that of Mg(2+) and Li(+) with ATP, and the critical triphosphate moiety of ATP undergoes a large conformational change in the Na(+), K(+), and Rb(+) substituted systems. As a result, the three metal ions (Na(+), K(+), and Rb(+)) are not stable and depart from the active site, while Mg(2+) and Li(+) can stabilize in the active site, evident in MD simulations. Comparisons of Mg(2)(2+)-Mg(1)(2+) and Mg(2)(2+)-Li(1)(+) systems reveal that the inline phosphor-transfer of ATP and the two conserved hydrogen bonds between Lys85 and ATP, together with the electrostatic potential at the Li(1)(+) site, are disrupted in the Mg(2)(2+)-Li(1)(+) system. These computational results highlight the possible mechanism why Li(+) inhibits GSK3β.  相似文献

Development and applications of fluorescent indicators for Mg2+ and Zn2+   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In a study of the spectroscopic behavior of two Schiff base derivatives, salicylaldehyde salicylhydrazone (1) and salicylaldehyde benzoylhydrazone (2), Schiff base 1 has high selectivity for Zn(2+) ion not only in abiotic systems but also in living cells. The ion selectivity of 1 for Zn(2+) can be switched for Mg(2+) by swapping the solvent from ethanol-water to DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide)-water mixtures. Imine 2 is a good fluorescent probe for Zn(2+) in ethanol-water media. Many other ions tested, such as Li(+), Na(+), Al(3+), K(+), Ca(2+), Cr(3+), Mn(2+), Fe(3+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Ag(+), Cd(2+), Sn(2+), Ba(2+), Hg(2+), and Pb(2+), failed to induce any spectral change in various solvents. The selectivity mechanism of 1 and 2 for metal ions is based on a combinational effect of proton transfer (ESPT), C═N isomerization, and chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF). The coordination modes of the complexes were investigated.  相似文献

We report on ab initio calculations at the G2(MP2) level of the structures and Al-N(P) bond complexation energies of the (CH(3))(n)H(3)(-)(n)AlNX(3) and (CH(3))(n)H(3)(-)(n)()AlPX(3) (X = H, F, and Cl; n = 0-3) donor-acceptor complexes. For the (CH(3))(3)AlNX(3) and (CH(3))(3)AlPX(3) complexes, the C(3)(v) symmetry is found to be favored, and for the other complexes the C(s) symmetry is found to be favored. The G2(MP2) calculated complexation energies show for the amine ligands the trend NH(3) > NCl(3) > NF(3). A similar trend PH(3) approximately PCl(3) > PF(3) is predicted for the phosphane ligands. The NBO partitioning scheme shows that there is no correlation between the stability and the charge transfer.  相似文献

Contamination of the environment with heavy metal ions has been an important concern throughout the world for decades. Driven by the need to detect trace amounts of mercury in environmental samples, this article demonstrates for the first time that nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of MPA-HCys-PDCA-modified gold nanoparticles can be used for rapid, easy and reliable screening of Hg(II) ions in aqueous solution, with high sensitivity (5 ppb) and selectivity over competing analytes. The hyper Rayleigh scattering (HRS) intensity increases 10 times after the addition of 20 ppm Hg(2+) ions to modified gold nanoparticle solution. The mechanism for HRS intensity change has been discussed in detail using particle size-dependent NLO properties as well as a two-state model. Our results show that the HRS assay for monitoring Hg(II) ions using MPA-HCys-PDCA-modified gold nanoparticles has excellent selectivity over alkali, alkaline earth (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+)), and transition heavy metal ions (Pb(2+), Pb(+), Mn(2+), Fe(2+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+)).  相似文献
