We transcribe a portion of the theory of extensions of C-algebras to general operator algebras. We also include several new general facts about approximately unital ideals in operator algebras and the C-algebras which they generate.  相似文献

We study the class of simple C-algebras introduced by Villadsen in his pioneering work on perforated ordered K-theory. We establish six equivalent characterisations of the proper subclass which satisfies the strong form of Elliott's classification conjecture: two C-algebraic (Z-stability and approximate divisibility), one K-theoretic (strict comparison of positive elements), and three topological (finite decomposition rank, slow dimension growth, and bounded dimension growth). The equivalence of Z-stability and strict comparison constitutes a stably finite version of Kirchberg's characterisation of purely infinite C-algebras. The other equivalences confirm, for Villadsen's algebras, heretofore conjectural relationships between various notions of good behaviour for nuclear C-algebras.  相似文献

Let A be a Banach algebra with a faithful multiplication and AA〉 be the quotient Banach algebra of A∗∗ with the left Arens product. We introduce a natural Banach algebra, which is a closed subspace of AA〉 but equipped with a distinct multiplication. With the help of this Banach algebra, new characterizations of the topological centre Zt(AA〉) of AA〉 are obtained, and a characterization of Zt(AA〉) by Lau and Ülger for A having a bounded approximate identity is extended to all Banach algebras. The study of this Banach algebra motivates us to introduce the notion of SIN locally compact quantum groups and the concept of quotient strong Arens irregularity. We give characterizations of co-amenable SIN quantum groups, which are even new for locally compact groups. Our study shows that the SIN property is intrinsically related to topological centre problems. We also give characterizations of quotient strong Arens irregularity for all quantum group algebras. Within the class of Banach algebras introduced recently by the authors, we characterize the unital ones, generalizing the corresponding result of Lau and Ülger. We study the interrelationships between strong Arens irregularity and quotient strong Arens irregularity, revealing the complex nature of topological centre problems. Some open questions by Lau and Ülger on Zt(AA〉) are also answered.  相似文献

We give various necessary and sufficient conditions for an AF-algebra to be isomorphic to a graph C-algebra, an Exel-Laca algebra, and an ultragraph C-algebra. We also explore consequences of these results. In particular, we show that all stable AF-algebras are both graph C-algebras and Exel-Laca algebras, and that all simple AF-algebras are either graph C-algebras or Exel-Laca algebras. In addition, we obtain a characterization of AF-algebras that are isomorphic to the C-algebra of a row-finite graph with no sinks.  相似文献

Akemann showed that any von Neumann algebra with a weak* separable dual space has a faithful normal representation on a separable Hilbert space. He posed the question: If a C*-algebra has a weak* separable state space, must it have a faithful representation on a separable Hilbert space? Wright solved this question negatively and showed that a unital C*-algebra has the weak* separable state space if and only if it has a unital completely positive map, into a type I factor on a separable Hilbert space, whose restriction to the self-adjoint part induces an order isomorphism. He called such a C*-algebra almost separably representable. We say that a unital C*-algebra is small if it has a unital complete isometry into a type I factor on a separable Hilbert space. In this paper we show that a unital C*-algebra is small if and only if the state spaces of all n by n matrix algebras over the C*-algebra are weak*-separable. It is natural to ask whether almost separably representable algebras are small or not. We settle this question positively for simple C*-algebras but the general question remains open.  相似文献

We consider a wide class of unital involutive topological algebras provided with aC *-norm and which are inverse limits of sequences of unital involutive Banach algebras; these algebra sare taking a prominent position in noncommutative differential geometry, where they are often called unital smooth algebras. In this paper we prove that the group of invertible elements of such a unital solution smooth algebra and the subgroup of its unitary elements are regular analytic Fréchet-Lie groups of Campbell-Baker-Hausdorff type and fulfill a nice infinite-dimensional version of Lie's second fundamental theorem.  相似文献

It is shown that every almost linear bijection of a unital C-algebra A onto a unital C-algebra B is a C-algebra isomorphism when h(n2uy)=h(n2u)h(y) for all unitaries uA, all yA, and n=0,1,2,…, and that almost linear continuous bijection of a unital C-algebra A of real rank zero onto a unital C-algebra B is a C-algebra isomorphism when h(n2uy)=h(n2u)h(y) for all , all yA, and n=0,1,2,…. Assume that X and Y are left normed modules over a unital C-algebra A. It is shown that every surjective isometry , satisfying T(0)=0 and T(ux)=uT(x) for all xX and all unitaries uA, is an A-linear isomorphism. This is applied to investigate C-algebra isomorphisms between unital C-algebras.  相似文献

Let A be an approximately subhomogeneous (ASH) C-algebra with slow dimension growth. We prove that if A is unital and simple, then the Cuntz semigroup of A agrees with that of its tensor product with the Jiang-Su algebra Z\mathcal{Z}. In tandem with a result of W. Winter, this yields the equivalence of Z\mathcal{Z}-stability and slow dimension growth for unital simple ASH algebras. This equivalence has several consequences, including the following classification theorem: unital ASH algebras which are simple, have slow dimension growth, and in which projections separate traces are determined up to isomorphism by their graded ordered K-theory, and none of the latter three conditions can be relaxed in general.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct representatives for all equivalence classes of the unital essential extension algebras of Cuntz algebra by the C*-algebras of compact operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We also compute their K-groups and semigroups and classify these extension algebras up to isomorphism by their semigroups.  相似文献

The Banach-Lie algebra L(A) of multiplication operators on the JB-triple A is introduced and it is shown that the hermitian part Lh(A) of L(A) is a unital GM-space the base of the dual cone in the dual GL-space (Lh(A)) of which is affine isomorphic and weak-homeomorphic to the state space of L(A). In the case in which A is a JBW-triple, it is shown that tripotents u and v in A are orthogonal if and only if the corresponding multiplication operators in the unital GM-space Lh(A) satisfy

We prove that two dual operator algebras are weak Morita equivalent in the sense of [D.P. Blecher, U. Kashyap, Morita equivalence of dual operator algebras, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (2008) 2401-2412] if and only if they have equivalent categories of dual operator modules via completely contractive functors which are also weak-continuous on appropriate morphism spaces. Moreover, in a fashion similar to the operator algebra case, we characterize such functors as the module normal Haagerup tensor product with an appropriate weak Morita equivalence bimodule. We also develop the theory of the W-dilation, which connects the non-selfadjoint dual operator algebra with the W-algebraic framework. In the case of weak Morita equivalence, this W-dilation is a W-module over a von Neumann algebra generated by the non-selfadjoint dual operator algebra. The theory of the W-dilation is a key part of the proof of our main theorem.  相似文献

For a commutative subspace lattice L in a von Neumann algebra N and a bounded linear map f:NalgLB(H), we show that if Af(B)C=0 for all A,B,CNalgL satisfying AB=BC=0, then f is a generalized derivation. For a unital C-algebra A, a unital Banach A-bimodule M, and a bounded linear map f:AM, we prove that if f(A)B=0 for all A,BA with AB=0, then f is a left multiplier; as a consequence, every bounded local derivation from a C-algebra to a Banach A-bimodule is a derivation. We also show that every local derivation on a semisimple free semigroupoid algebra is a derivation and every local multiplier on a free semigroupoid algebra is a multiplier.  相似文献

Spectrum and analytical indices of the C-algebra of Wiener-Hopf operators   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We study multivariate generalisations of the classical Wiener-Hopf algebra, which is the C-algebra generated by the Wiener-Hopf operators, given by convolutions restricted to convex cones. By the work of Muhly and Renault, this C-algebra is known to be isomorphic to the reduced C-algebra of a certain restricted action groupoid, given by the action of Euclidean space on a certain compactification. Using groupoid methods, we construct composition series for the Wiener-Hopf C-algebra by a detailed study of this compactification. We compute the spectrum, and express homomorphisms in K-theory induced by the symbol maps which arise by the subquotients of the composition series in analytical terms. Namely, these symbols maps turn out to be given by an analytical family index of a continuous family of Fredholm operators. In a subsequent paper, we also obtain a topological expression of these indices.  相似文献

We introduce a new tensor product and study the weak condition C, which is also called weak exactness, for dual operator spaces. Our definition of weak condition C is equivalent to Kirchberg's notion of weak exactness in the case of von Neumann algebras. We also study the connection of weak exact W-TROs with their linking von Neumann algebras and study the structure of exact (respectively, nuclear) W-TROs.  相似文献

For projectionless C-algebras absorbing the Jiang-Su algebra tensorially, we study a kind of the Rohlin property for automorphisms. We show that the crossed products obtained by automorphisms with this Rohlin property also absorb the Jiang-Su algebra tensorially under a mild technical condition on the C-algebras. In particular, for the Jiang-Su algebra we show the uniqueness up to outer conjugacy of the automorphism with this Rohlin property.  相似文献

We prove that an isometry T between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital Banach algebras A and B is extended to a real-linear isometry up to translation between these Banach algebras. While a unital isometry between unital semisimple commutative Banach algebras need not be multiplicative, we prove in this paper that if A is commutative and A or B are semisimple, then (T(eA))−1T is extended to an isometric real algebra isomorphism from A onto B. In particular, A−1 is isometric as a metric space to B−1 if and only if they are isometrically isomorphic to each other as metrizable groups if and only if A is isometrically isomorphic to B as a real Banach algebra; it is compared by the example of ?elazko concerning on non-isomorphic Banach algebras with the homeomorphically isomorphic invertible groups. Isometries between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital closed standard operator algebras on Banach spaces are investigated and their general forms are given.  相似文献

Let PB be a principal G-bundle. For any connection θ on P, the Chern-Weil construction of characteristic classes defines an algebra homomorphism from the Weil algebra Wg=Sg⊗∧g into the algebra of differential forms A=Ω(P). Invariant polynomials inv(Sg)⊂Wg map to cocycles, and the induced map in cohomology inv(Sg)→H(Abasic) is independent of the choice of θ. The algebra Ω(P) is an example of a commutativeg-differential algebra with connection, as introduced by H. Cartan in 1950. As observed by Cartan, the Chern-Weil construction generalizes to all such algebras. In this paper, we introduce a canonical Chern-Weil map WgA for possibly non-commutativeg-differential algebras with connection. Our main observation is that the generalized Chern-Weil map is an algebra homomorphism “up to g-homotopy”. Hence, the induced map inv(Sg)→Hbasic(A) is an algebra homomorphism. As in the standard Chern-Weil theory, this map is independent of the choice of connection.Applications of our results include: a conceptually easy proof of the Duflo theorem for quadratic Lie algebras, a short proof of a conjecture of Vogan on Dirac cohomology, generalized Harish-Chandra projections for quadratic Lie algebras, an extension of Rouvière's theorem for symmetric pairs, and a new construction of universal characteristic forms in the Bott-Shulman complex.  相似文献
