Existence theorems for hyperbolic differential inclusions in Banach algebras

In this paper, an existence theorem for a certain hyperbolic differential inclusions in Banach algebras is proved under the mixed Lipschitz and Carathéodory conditions. The existence of extremal solutions for Carathéodory as well as discontinuous hyperbolic differential inclusions is also proved under certain monotonicity conditions.

Spatial behaviour of solutions of the three-phase-lag heat equation

In this paper we study the spatial behaviour of solutions for the three-phase-lag heat equation on a semi-infinite cylinder. The theory of three-phase-lag heat conduction leads to a hyperbolic partial differential equation with a fourth-order derivative with respect to time. First, we investigate the spatial evolution of solutions of an initial boundary-value problem with zero boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Under a boundedness restriction on the initial data, an energy estimate is obtained. An upper bound for the amplitude term in this estimate in terms of the initial and boundary data is also established. For the case of zero initial conditions, a more explicit estimate is obtained which shows that solutions decay exponentially along certain spatial-time lines. A class of non-standard problems is also considered for which the temperature and its first two time derivatives at a fixed time T₀ are assumed proportional to their initial values. These results are relevant in the context of the Saint-Venant Principle for heat conduction problems.

In this paper, existence of weak solutions of second order evolution equations is proved and some properties of the solutions are shown. The results are applied to higher order nonlinear hyperbolic functional differential equations.

A lower bound for the blow-up time to a damped semilinear wave equation

This paper studies the blow-up property of weak solutions to an initial and boundary value problem for a nonlinear viscoelastic hyperbolic equation with nonlinear sources. A lower bound for the blow-up time is given.

A functional partial differential equation arising in a cell growth model with dispersion

In this paper we solve an initial‐boundary value problem that involves a pde with a nonlocal term. The problem comes from a cell division model where the growth is assumed to be stochastic. The deterministic version of this problem yields a first‐order pde; the stochastic version yields a second‐order parabolic pde. There are no general methods for solving such problems even for the simplest cases owing to the nonlocal term. Although a solution method was devised for the simplest version of the first‐order case, the analysis does not readily extend to the second‐order case. We develop a method for solving the second‐order case and obtain the exact solution in a form that allows us to study the long time asymptotic behaviour of solutions and the impact of the dispersion term. We establish the existence of a large time attracting solution towards which solutions converge exponentially in time. The dispersion term does not appear in the exponential rate of convergence.

Analytic and approximate solutions of the space- and time-fractional telegraph equations

The Adomian decomposition method is used to obtain analytic and approximate solutions of the space-and time-fractional telegraph equations. The space- and time-fractional derivatives are considered in the Caputo sense. The analytic solutions are calculated in the form of series with easily computable terms. Some examples are given. The results reveal that the Adomian method is very effective and convenient.     

A remark on the mean curvature of a graph-like hypersurface in hyperbolic space

In this paper we investigate the mean curvature H of a radial graph in hyperbolic space Hn+1. We obtain an integral inequality for H, and find that the lower limit of H at infinity is less than or equal to 1 and the upper limit of H at infinity is more than or equal to −1. As a byproduct we get a relation between the n-dimensional volume of a bounded domain in an n-dimensional hyperbolic space and the (n−1)-dimensional volume of its boundary. We also sharpen the main result of a paper by P.-A. Nitsche dealing with the existence and uniqueness of graph-like prescribed mean curvature hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space.     

Remarks on Third-Order ODEs Relevant to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky Equation

We are interested in the third-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which are related to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. So-called steady solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation are known to admit several types; for example, bounded global solutions or periodic solutions. We show that, in addition to these, there exist solutions which blow up on bounded intervals. Moreover, for certain classes of these ODEs, the nonexistence of nontrivial bounded entire solutions is exhibited.     

Oscillatory Behaviour of a Higher Order Nonlinear Neutral Delay Type Functional Differential Equation with Oscillating Coefficients

In this paper we are concerned with the oscillation of solutions of a certain more general higher order nonlinear neutral type functional differential equation with oscillating coefficients. We obtain two sufficient criteria for oscillatory behaviour of its solutions.     

Quasilinear Stochastic Hyperbolic Differential Equations with Nondecreasing Coefficient

In this note we prove a result of existence and uniqueness of solutions for a certain class of hyperbolic stochastic differential equations with additive white noise and nondecreasing coefficient. We then show the convergence of Euler's approximation scheme for this equation.     

Existence of anti-periodic mild solutions for semilinear evolution equations

In this paper we study the existence of anti-periodic mild solutions for a class of semilinear evolution equations in Banach spaces and extend some related results in this direction. An example is given to illustrate our results.

The existence of periodic solutions for a class of nonlinear functional differential equations

This paper is concerned with periodic solutions of first-order nonlinear functional differential equations with deviating arguments. Some new sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions are obtained. The paper extends and improves some well-known results.
