During the last 14 years the Radioecology Laboratory of Parma University and the General Chemistry Institute of Urbino University collaborated on a radioecological programme having the aim to observe the evolution of antropogenic radioactivity in Antarctica in the period 1987-2001. The artificial radionuclides considered were 90Sr, 137Cs, 239+240Pu,238Pu and 241Am. The contamination seems to be higher in the continental environment rather than in the marine one. Mosses, algae and lichens showed the highest values for all radionuclides analyzed. The results prove that the Antarctic continent is interested by radioactive pollution. As far as 137Cs is concerned, a progressive decrease was observed.  相似文献

The distribution of 137Cs and 239,240Pu in various ecosystems of the Kara Sea as well as speciation of these radionuclides has been studied to assess their potential mobility. In bottom sediment and seawater samples collected in Abrosimov, Tsivolky, Stepovoy, and Sedov Bays and on the coast of Novaya Zemlya, the content of anthropogenic radionuclides 137Cs and 239,240Pu does not exceed the values typical of the offshore zone in the Kara Sea (in sea water: 1.0–3.7 Bq/m3 for 137Cs and 50–90 mBq/m3 for 239,240Pu; in bottom sediments: 0.5–18.3 Bq/kg for 137Cs and 4.3–7.3 Bq/kg for 239,240Pu). The present monitoring study is important for the development of a long-term forecast for the dynamics of environmental contamination in the shallow bays of Novaya Zemlya.  相似文献

During the Fukushima nuclear accident, a large number of radionuclides were released, causing direct radioactive contamination to the environment and the ecosystem, and eventually indirect contamination to the foodstuffs. The Radiation Monitoring Group, Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has been monitoring the foodstuffs imported from Japan, especially the Fukushima and nearby areas. This monitoring program covered the potentially contaminated foodstuffs. The measurements were mainly conducted using Gamma spectroscopy systems in order to analyze the radioactive concentration of 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs fission products. From 442 samples collected between after the nuclear accident to the end of September 2012, 28 of contaminated food products of fission isotopes have been found with the contamination ranges of 0.63–15.25 Bq/kg fresh, 1.45–44.70 Bq/kg fresh, and 0.45–51.10 Bq/kg fresh) for 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs, respectively. However, the contamination levels are still well under the Thailand standard of food contaminated with radionuclide and the relevant international standards. Finally, the research also investigated the relationship between the times the samples were collected and the contamination levels.  相似文献

The article presents the measurement results of the volumetric activity (VA) of artificial radionuclides 90Sr and 137Cs in the coastal waters of the Baltic Sea near the Curonian Peninsula in 2005–2009. The annual average values for this period of time were 12 Bq/m3 (90Sr) and 40 Bq/m3 (137Cs). Considerable variations in the VA of the radionuclide in individual measurements compared to the average results were observed. The extreme values were 6 and 16 Bq/m3 for 90Sr and for 137Cs—27 and 75 Bq/m3. It is proposed to allow such variations under the influence of a variety of external factors such as hydro meteorological situations, inflowing rivers and bays, storm activity and etc. Besides, a possibility of penetration of radionuclides into the sea waters from the additional radioactive sources is not excluded.  相似文献

This study with sampling expeditions of marine sediment, seawater and biota were performed at 30 stations within Malaysian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). A total of >400 samples were collected to determine the activity concentration of anthropogenic radionuclides (239+240Pu, 137Cs) and their activity ratio (239+240Pu/137Cs) in sediments, seawater and biota. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration levels for these radionuclides and to evaluate any occurrence of radioactive contamination. Sediment cores were obtained using multicorer device, while water samples via co-precipitation techniques and biota was purchased from local fishermen. The activity concentrations of 239+240Pu in sediment, seawater and biota were ranged 0.21–0.45 Bq/kg dry wt., 2.33–7.95 mBq/m3 and <0.008 Bq/kg fresh wt., respectively. Meanwhile, the values of 137Cs were ranged <1.00–2.71 Bq/kg dry wt. in sediment, 3.40–5.89 Bq/m3 in seawater and <0.05–0.41 Bq/kg fresh wt. in biota, respectively. Activity ratios of 239+240Pu to 137Cs obtained seem to confirm that these artificial radioactivities were mainly due to global nuclear fallout.  相似文献

After the Chernobyl reactor accident, Eastern Black Sea coast was one of the heavily contaminated regions of Turkey. Clouds loaded with radioactive isotopes arrived the region on May 1986 and emptied their contents with the heavy rains that are frequently seen in the region. In order to asses the current level of contamination, several different samples, moss, lichen, litter, surface soil and soil cores were collected on August 1994. Samples were brought to the laboratory and their moisture, pH and organic matter contents were determined. Gamma-ray spectra of the samples were collected with a HpGe detector. 137Cs was the major isotope observed. Activity of most litter samples were below 1000 Bq/kg, while most of the moss samples had activities below 5000 Bq/kg, there were a few with higher 137Cs activities. Surface soil samples generally had activities less than 2000 Bq/kg and depth profiles of cesium activities in the soil cores showed regional variations.  相似文献

A radiological survey and whole body counting of 137Cs were carried out in Rongelap Island (main island) of Rongelap Atoll in July 1999. The maximum values of 137Cs contamination and of g-ray dose rate were 39 kBq/m2 and 0.033 mSv/h, respectively. The maximum a and b gross counting rates on the surface of ground were 1 cpm and 182 cpm in active area of 72 cm2, respectively. Activity of 239,240Pu for soil was 80 Bq/kg in the top 5 cm and aerial deposition was 3.4 kBq/m2 in Rongelap Island in 1999. The body burden of 137Cs was observed to be 27±11 Bq/kg for 6 workers. Assessment of external and internal annual doses (0.1 and 0.07 mSv/y) indicates that as of 1999 there is no large risk to the inhabitants of Rongelap Island from a radiological point of view. The radiological status of Rongelap Island, which was severely contaminated by the radiological fallouts of nuclear testings carried out in 1954, has improved year by year as shown by the decrease of 137Cs. The effective halftime of 137Cs, which is estimated to be 6.6 y is much shorter than the physical half-life of 137Cs. Radioactive contamination in Kaballe Island, (a part of the northern islands used for farming) which is located 25 km northeast of Rongelap Island, was still high in 1999. One site nearby a beach was highly contaminated with 137Cs, where the maximum activity of 137Cs was 3.4 MBq/m2, a-ray of 2 cpm, b-ray of 1205 cpm and g-ray of 0.73 mSv/h. Activity of 239,240Pu in soil (n = 1) was 294 Bq/kg (top 5 cm) and 16 kBq/m2.  相似文献

The radioactive contamination following the Chernobyl accident resulted in high concentrations of 137Cs in several mushrooms species. Mushroom samples were collected in a forest environment between 1986 and 2007 and the transfer of 137Cs to two edible species, Suillus variegatus and Cantharellus spp., was investigated. The 137Cs uptake by the collected samples did not decrease over time and in Cantharellus spp. a significant increase was observed. Most of the 137Cs in soil still appears to be available for uptake and radioactive decay of the radionuclide is likely the main factor for the reduction of 137Cs in a forest ecosystem.  相似文献

This work shows the variation of90Sr and137Cs in atmospheric fallout in the Bucharest-Mgurele area during 1986–1987. The amount of90Sr in the fallout was estimated to be about 900 Bq.m–2 in 1986 and about 9.2 Bq.m–2 in 1987. The amount of137Cs was estimated to be 13300 and 615 Bq.m–2 in 1986 and 1987, respectively.  相似文献

To examine the radionuclide concentrations in the environment, seaweeds were collected once a year since 1976 at two different places. A marked change was observed in the number of radionuclides in seaweeds. The increase of radionuclides is attributed to contamination by radioactive fallout from Chinese nuclear explosion tests. The radionuclide concentrations were strongly dependent on the species of seaweeds. A gradual decrease of the137Cs/40K activity ratio was observed in spite of the input of additional137Cs fallout from Chinese nuclear tests. This implies that the amounts of137Cs introduced into seawater by these detonations were small in comparison with those already contained in seawater. The cesium content in seawater was estimated by using specific activities of137Cs in seaweeds and137Cs concentration in seawater. The results show good agreement with the reported values by direct analysis of seawater.  相似文献

The goal of the study was to research the relationship between the source rocks and the sediment deposited in the Vransko Lake in the Ravni Kotari area and to study the sedimentation pattern in the lake. Sediment was classified as the sandy silt and the phase analysis showed the presence of the calcite, quartz, micas, and pyrite. It is possible that the anoxic conditions formed in the sediment due to the pyrite presence. Carbonate component predominates in the sediment composition. CaCO3 mass fractions in the range 72–94% with the mean values in the range 82–88% were determined. 40K mass activities were in the range 31–166 Bq/kg, 232Th in the range 3.1–18 Bq/kg, and 137Cs in the range 0.3–68 Bq/kg. Negative correlations between CaCO3 mass fractions and radionuclides mass activities were determined. Correlations between the radionuclides mass activities were positive. In the NW part of the lake sedimentation rates of 10.0, 4.1 and 5.0 mm/a were estimated for the 1954–1964, 1964–1986, and the 1986–2010 periods, respectively. At the SE part sedimentation rates for the respective periods were as follows: 8.0, 2.3 and 2.5 mm/a. Average sedimentation rates were 6.4 mm/a for the NW part of the lake and 4.2 mm/a for the SE part. Sedimentation rate in the Vransko Lake varies in time and showed a significant decrease after the 1964. The input of the carbonate and silicate material into the lake is also variable.  相似文献

In this study, an accurate faster gamma spectrometry method for measuring the low level activity concentrations of 137Cs using in situ pre-concentration technique on copper ferrocyanide cartridge was standardized. Due to unavailability of reference standard in the copper ferrocyanide matrix, efficiency calibration curves were plotted using RGU and RGTh reference standards. To harmonize the difference in density of standard and sample the required density correction factors for photo peak efficiency were generated. The in situ pre-concentration technique followed by gamma-ray spectrometry was applied for activity determination in surface seawater from eight locations in the coastal marine environment of Arabian Sea. The mean activity concentration of 137Cs ranged between 0.71 and 0.91 Bq/m3. Higher activity concentrations were observed at location with latitude, longitude of 21.6°N, 69.57°E as compared to concentration observed at location with latitude, longitude 16.98°N, 73.25°E. The observed concentrations were found to be in range of data reported in Asia–Pacific Marine radioactive database (ASPARMARD). The results will fill up the gaps in the existing database. The generated data will be useful for monitoring fresh input of anthropogenic radionuclide into coastal marine environment for post Fukushima environmental assessment.  相似文献

A variety of wild mushrooms were collected in a forest on the Noto Peninsula, Japan, to determine the concentration of 137Cs and 40K. The wild mushroom species belong to the orders Agaricales and Aphyllophorales. The concentration of 137Cs varied widely (1.4–4,100 Bq/kg dry weight) in mushrooms growing in soil. On the contrary, 137Cs concentration levels were relatively low (1.9–20 Bq/kg-dry weight) in mushrooms growing on wood. The concentration of 40K varied widely (12–2,400 Bq/kg-dry weight) in contrast with several previous reports that suggest relatively constant 40K levels in mushrooms. Unusually low concentrations of 40K were observed in a few mushroom species that had very hard fruiting bodies with peculiar shapes. The mean and median of 137Cs concentration in the present study were similar to those previously reported for Japanese mushrooms. Among the Agaricales mushrooms, Entolomataceae and Tricholomataceae families growing in soil had the highest concentration of 137Cs. Among the Aphyllophorales mushrooms, Gomphaceae and Ramariaceae families growing in soil also had the highest 137Cs concentrations. The concentrations of 137Cs and stable Cs in mushroom samples were positively correlated. The concentration ratio of 137Cs/Cs differed between Agaricales and Aphyllophorales mushrooms. The average 137Cs/Cs ratio in mushrooms growing in soil was similar to that calculated for the top soil (<5 cm deep) alone because the mycelia of the mushrooms were mainly distributed near the surface of the soil.  相似文献

Samples of precipitations were collected quarterly and analyzed for90Sr and137Cs. The values obtained ranged from 0.001 to 0.004 Bq dm–3, with a maximum of 0.010 Bq dm–3 for90Sr;137Cs values ranged from 0.001 to 0.005 Bq dm–3, with a maximum of 0.070 Bq dm–3. The highest values were observed during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 1981.  相似文献

Two sets of calibration standards for134Cs and137Cs were prepared by small serial dilution of a natural matrix standard reference material, IAEA-154 whey powder. The first set was intended to screen imported milk powders which were suspected to be contaminated with134Cs and137Cs. Therefore the concentration range of the calibration standards were about 40–400 Bq/kg. The precision of the preparation of the standard with about 7 Bq/kg of134Cs and 39 Bq/kg of137Cs at measurement time was 7.4% and 3.2%, respectively. The preparation of a similar standard by spiking the matrix with radioisotope solutions resulted in a poorer precision, about double that of the former technique. The other set of calibration standards was prepared to measure the environmental levels of137Cs in commercial Venezuelan milk powders. Their concentration ranged from 3–10 Bq/kg of137Cs. The accuracy of these calibration curves was checked by using IAEA-152 and A-14 milk powders. Their measured values were in good agreement with their certified values. Finally, it is shown that these preparation techniques by serial dilution of a standard reference material were simple, rapid, precise, accurate and cost-effective.This work was partly funded by a research contract PC-075 from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas (CONICIT).  相似文献

The present study is to determine the activity concentration of radioactive nuclide in plant fertilizers used in agriculture in Iraqi Kurdistan region using high- purity germanium detector (HPGe) gamma spectrometer. The results showed that the range of activity concentrations for 226Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs in chemicals and organic fertilizers are (0.1–134), (0.1–74), (1–12,000) and (0–1) Bq/kg respectively, based on the measured activities that were used to assess the radiological hazards. Radium equivalent activity in some samples exceeds the value (370 Bq/kg) which recommended by the OECD.  相似文献

Various types of soil samples were collected in the southern part of Brazil, with depth intervals of 5 cm, down to 50 cm, using a specially designed sampler. Pedological analysis of these soils were performed. Nuclear activities of137Cs (expressed in Bq m–2) and radioactive natural element (226Ra,228Ra and40K) concentrations were determined by low background gamma-ray spectrometry.137Cs concentrations were correlated with radioactive natural element concentrations and pedological, climatological and geographic parameters related to the soil samples collected.  相似文献

Radiocesium (134Cs and137Cs) activity levels in mosses from the Black Sea area, northern Turkey, are reported following the Chernobyl accident during the period of 1989–1991. The cesium radionuclides were detected and measured in all the samples but other longlived radionuclides such as144Ce and106Ru were measured in only one sample. The present data support the fact that radioactivity monitoring in mosses can be useful to determine the lasting effect of radioactive contamination.  相似文献

Contamination of ground level air at Lublin town was studied by measurements of radioactive isotope and heavy metal contents in Parmeliaceae lichens exposed during six months on the area of the town. The concentration of the elements studied was compared with these ones measured in unexposed (blank) samples of lichens. The highest increase of radioactivity was noticed for 232Th, 226Ra and 40K. The contamination by 137Cs does not increased markedly, ranging from 2 to 107 Bq/kg of the dry lichen sample. Nearly half of the exposed samples do not reveal any increase of cesium radioactivity. Heavy metal concentrations in analyzed lichens were low. From the results obtained, one may conclude that concentration of these metals in ground air level does not reach appreciable values.  相似文献

Radionuclide concentrations in wharf roaches inhabiting coastal areas of Honshu, Japan, were investigated in October 2011 and June 2012. Relative high concentrations of 110mAg (2.1–127 Bq kg-wet?1), 134Cs (2.6–61 Bq kg-wet?1), and 137Cs (3.5–92 Bq kg-wet?1) were detected in specimens from the eastern Honshu areas. Significantly lower 137Cs concentrations (0.7–1.6 Bq kg-wet?1) were detected in specimens from western and northern Honshu. The decay-corrected 137Cs concentration was significantly inversely correlated with the distance from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant. Thus, wharf roach may serve as a good bioindicator for monitoring radioactive contamination of its habitats.  相似文献
