Hydroxy‐functional macroazoinitiators with central azo unit have been synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate or 2‐hydroxypropyl methacrylate in methanol. The mean degrees of polymerization of the polymer chains beside the azo group were fixed at 30 and 60. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatography were used to characterize the macroazoinitiators in terms of their chemical structure, molecular weight, and polydispersity, respectively. Dispersion polymerizations of styrene using the hydroxy‐functional macroazoinitiators as an inistab (initiator + colloidal stabilizer) in 2‐propanol or 2‐propanol/water media resulted in submicrometer‐sized polystyrene latex particles with hydroxy‐functional polymer hair. Electron microscopies, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, thin layer chromatography, and 1H NMR were used to characterize the particles in terms of their morphologies, particle sizes, and their distributions and chemical compositions. The synthesized particles behaved as an effective particulate emulsifier for the stabilization of oil‐in‐water emulsions. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Homopolymers of 2‐(trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate of degrees of polymerization from 5 to 50 were synthesized by group transfer polymerization in tetrahydrofuran (THF) using 1‐methoxy‐1‐(trimethylsiloxy)‐2‐methyl propene as the initiator and tetrabutylammonium bibenzoate as the catalyst. These polymers were first converted to poly[2‐(hydroxy)ethyl methacrylate]s by removal of the trimethylsilyl‐protecting groups by acidic hydrolysis, and subsequently transformed to poly{2‐[(3,5‐dinitrobenzoyl)oxy]ethyl methacrylate}s by reaction with 3,5‐dinitrobenzoyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. Gel permeation chromatography in THF and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy in CDCl3 and d6 dimethyl sulfoxide were used to characterize the polymers in terms of their molecular weight and composition. The molecular weights were found to be close to the values expected from the polymerization stoichiometry and the molecular weight distributions were narrow, with polydispersity indices around 1.1. The hydrolysis and reesterification steps were found to be almost quantitative for all polymers. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermal gravimetric analysis were also employed to measure the glass transition temperatures (Tg 's) and decomposition temperatures, which were determined to be approximately 80 and 320 °C, respectively. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Nitroxide-mediated free-radical miniemulsion polymerizations (NMRPs) of styrene were successfully performed under microwave irradiation at 135 °C. The polymerizations proceeded in a controlled manner, yielding polymers that showed an incremental increase in molecular weight with conversion and had narrow molecular weight distributions. The resulting latexes were colloidally stable. The polymerization behavior, molecular weights of polymers and Z-average size of latex particles were also investigated under two different heating methods, microwave irradiation and conventional heating.  相似文献

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) have been radically polymerized in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane and CuCl/N,N,N′,N″,N″-pentamethyldiethyltriamine (Me3SiCl/CuCl/PMDETA). An analysis of the resultant polymers by 1H NMR discloses terminal silyl group and chlorine atom in all the obtained polymers. Kinetics studies have been carried out by measuring monomer conversions and polymer molecular weights against polymerization time. The results indicate that, for both MMA and St polymerizations, the monomer conversions exhibit a quasi-linear relationship with polymerization time, and the polymer number-average molecular weight (Mn) also increases with monomer conversion. The molecular weights of both PS and PMMA exceed one hundred thousand. Regardless of molecular weight, all the polymers show narrow molecular distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.2-1.5). These polymerization reactions are speculated to follow a mechanism similar to that of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP).  相似文献

The photo-controlled/living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate using a nitroxide mediator was established in an inert atmosphere. The bulk polymerization was performed at room temperature using 4-methoxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl as the mediator and (2RS,2′RS)-azobis(4-methoxy-2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) as the initiator in the presence of (4-tert-butylphenyl)diphenylsulfonium triflate as the accelerator by irradiation with a high-pressure mercury lamp. The photopolymerization in a N2 atmosphere produced a polymer with a comparatively narrow molecular weight distribution; however, the experimental molecular weight was slightly different from the theoretical molecular weight. The Ar atmospheric polymerization also provided a polymer with the molecular weight distribution similar to that of the polymer obtained by the N2 atmospheric polymerization. These inert atmospheric polymerizations more rapidly proceeded to produce polymers with narrower molecular weight distributions than the vacuum polymerization. The livingness of the Ar atmospheric polymerization was confirmed on the basis of the first-order time–conversion plots and conversion–molecular weight plots.  相似文献

Stimuli‐responsive macroazoinitiators with central azo unit have been synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate or 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate in 2‐propanol at 25 °C. The mean degree of polymerization of the polymer chains besides the azo group was fixed between 25 and 60. 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, UV‐Vis spectrophotometer, and surface tensiometer were used to characterize the stimuli‐responsive macroazoinitiators in terms of their chemical structure, molecular weight, polydispersity, and pH‐responsive behavior, respectively. Eventually, dispersion polymerization of styrene using the poly[2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDEA) macroazoinitiator as an inistab (initiator + stabilizer) in 2‐propanol medium was conducted. Near‐monodisperse 98 nm polystyrene (PS) latex particles with pH‐responsive PDEA hair were successfully synthesized. The PS latex particles with the PDEA hair can be dispersed in acidic aqueous media where the PDEA hair was protonated and was solvated, and can be flocculated in basic aqueous media where the PDEA hair was deprotonated and was precipitated. This dispersion‐flocculation cycle was reversible. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3431–3443, 2009  相似文献

The atom transfer radical polymerization of cyclohexyl methacrylate (CHMA) is reported. Controlled polymerizations were performed with the CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalytic system with ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate as the initiator in bulk and different solvents (25 vol %) at 40 °C. The polymerization of CHMA in bulk resulted in a controlled polymerization, although the concentration of active species was relatively elevated. The addition of a solvent was necessary to reduce the polymerization rate, which was dependent on the dipole moment. Well‐controlled polymers were obtained in toluene, diphenyl ether, and benzonitrile solutions. Poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate) as a macroinitiator was used to synthesize the poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) block copolymer, which allowed a demonstration of its living character. In addition, two difunctional initiators, 1,4‐bis(bromoisobutyryloxy) benzene and 1,2‐bis(bromoisobutyryloxy) ethane, were used to initiate the atom transfer radical polymerization of CHMA. The experimental molecular weights of the obtained polymers were very close to the theoretical ones. These, along with the relative narrow molecular weight distributions, indicated that the polymerization was living and controlled. For confirmation, two different poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) triblock copolymers were also synthesized. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. N-(2-hydroxyethyl)carbazolyl methacrylate (HECM) and N-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyl carbazolyl methacrylate (HMCM-2) were polymerized by group transfer polymerization to varying molecular weights of somewhat narrow molecular weight distribution. The thermal behavior of the homopolymers and of their EDA complexes with poly(β-hydroxyethyl-3,5-dinitrobenzoyl methacrylate) (PDNBM-2) was studied as a function of molecular weight. The Tg′s of both polymers and their miscible complexes increase steadily as molecular weight increases and then become constant at about M n = 6000. Both the PHECM–PDNBM-2 and PHMCM-2—PDNBM-2 systems are thermally reversible miscible networks over all polymer molecular weights. Miscibility is thermodynamically controlled over the entire range of molecular weights in the first system and decomplexation does not occur below the decomposition temperature. However, miscibility is thermodynamically controlled in the second system when the molecular weight of PHMCM-2 is less than 5000, and kinetically controlled for higher molecular weights. The decomplexation temperature or LCST of the PHMCM-2–PDNBM-2 system occurs below the decomposition temperature and increases with decreasing PHMCM-2 molecular weight, in agreement with theoretical predictions on the dependence of LCST on polymer molecular weight.  相似文献

The crosslinking reaction of primary polymers under the influence of potentials was studied by computer simulation. Under the predominant action of repulsive potential, macrogelation did not appear and the products remained as a sol (microgel). With increasing repulsive potential, the particle size descended and the final size distribution became narrow (Pw/Pn = 1·06; Pw, weight average degree of polymerization; Pn, number average degree of polymerization). By the simulation according to a diffusion limited aggregation model with distant repulsive potential and short distant weak attractive potential, round and dense particles were obtained. In the crosslinking reaction of partially quaternized poly (4-vinylpyridine) (q-P4VP), the size of the particles declined and the size distribution became narrow with the quaternization degree of q-P4VP. This result agrees with that of the simulation.  相似文献

A new type of ligands based on organic acids, such as acetic acid, iminodiacetic acid, succinic acid and isophthalic acid, has been successfully employed in the iron‐mediated atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of vinyl monomers, such as styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). The systems containing different organic acids can react at 250°C to 1300°C in “living”/controlled radical polymerizations giving polymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.2–1.5). 1H NMR spectroscopy has been used to study the structure of the resulting polymers. Block copolymers were synthesized to confirm the ìlivingî nature of the system. The measured molecular weights are close to the calculated values for the polymerization of MMA and are somewhat lower than the theoretical ones for styrene.  相似文献

The photoradical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was performed in an acetonitrile solution at room temperature using (2RS,2′RS)-azobis(4-methoxy-2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) as the initiator, 4-methoxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl as the mediator, and (4-tert-butylphenyl)diphenylsulfonium triflate as the photo-acid generator. This solution polymerization showed a non-steady-state during the very early stage followed by a steady-state. The polymerization produced oligomers with several thousand molecular weights at a very low conversion under the non-steady-state. It was confirmed that the polymerization proceeded in accordance with a living mechanism under the steady-state based on the linear correlations for both the first-order time-conversion plots and the conversion–molecular weight plots. The molecular weight distributions of the polymers obtained in the steady-state were approximately 1.8. The block copolymerization with isopropyl methacrylate ( i PMA) demonstrated that the growing polymer chain ends of the MMA prepolymer were stabilized even at a high conversion and efficiently initiated the i PMA polymerization.  相似文献

Abstract

Organolanthanide(III) initiated polymerization of methyl methacryate gave both syndiotactic and isotactic living polymers of high molecular weight. Organolanthanide(III) initiated polymerization of alkyl acrylates also gave high molecular weight poly(alkyl acrylate)s with very narrow molecular weight distribuion in high yield. Molecular weights of the resulting polymers increased linearly with the conversion. Random and block copolymerizations of alkyl acrylates with methyl methacrylate were realized successfully. For the sake of development of the olefin polymerization catalyst, bulky substituents were introduced into Me2Si bridged Cp rings and they were used as ligands for the lanthanide complexes. Tri- and divalent lanthanide complexes with such ligands showed high activity for olefin polymerization and gave high molecular weight polyolefins.  相似文献

A novel ω-azido-functionalized RAFT reagent, O-(2-azido-ethyl) S-benzyl dithiocarbonate (AEBDC), was synthesized and subsequently employed to mediate the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) to prepare end-functionalized polymers. The polymerization results showed that the RAFT polymerizations of VAc could be well controlled using AEBDC as the RAFT agent. Number-average molecular weights (Mn GPC) increased linearly with monomer conversion, and molecular weight distributions were relatively narrow. 1H NMR spectrum of the poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) confirmed the existence of functional azido group at the end of the polymers chains. The ω-azido-terminated polymers were coupled by “click” chemistry with a fluorescent alkyne, 7-propinyloxy coumarin, to prepare fluorescent PVAc. The fluorescence properties of the PVAc homopolymers before and after coupling with 7-propinyloxy coumarin in CH2Cl2 solution were investigated.  相似文献

The photo-controlled/living radical polymerization of 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) was attained using 4-methoxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl as the mediator and (2RS,2′RS)-azobis(4-methoxy-2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) (r-AMDV) as the initiator. The bulk polymerization of DMAEMA produced a polymer with a comparatively narrow molecular weight distribution below 1.6. The first-order time conversion plots showed a linear increase. The molecular weight of the resulting polymer also increased with an increase in the monomer conversion. The molecular weights of the resulting polymers were in good agreement with the theoretical molecular weights. A linear correlation was also obtained for the plots of the molecular weight vs. the reciprocal of the initial concentration of r-AMDV. The GPC analysis demonstrated the living nature of the polymerization based on the fact that the curves were shifted to the higher molecular weight side without deactivation as the conversion increased.  相似文献

Anionic polymerization of lauryl methacrylate (LMA) with 1,1‐diphenylhexyl lithium in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at ?40 °C resulted in a multimodal and broad molecular weight distribution (MWD) with poor initiator efficiency. In the presence of additives such as dilithium salt of triethylene glycol (G3Li2), LiCl, and LiClO4, the polymerization resulted in polymers with a narrow MWD (≤ 1.10). Diblock copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and LMA were synthesized by anionic polymerization using DPHLi as initiator in THF at ?40 °C with the sequential addition of monomers. The molecular weight distribution of the polymers was narrow and without homopolymer contamination when LMA was added to living PMMA chain ends. Diblock copolymers with broad/bimodal MWD were obtained with a reverse‐sequence monomer addition. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 875–882, 2004  相似文献

A combination of tert-butyllithium (t-BuLi) and bis(2,6-di-t-butylphenoxy)methylaluminium (MeAI(ODBP)2) was found to be an efficient initiator for heterotactic living polymerization of certain alkyl methacrylates in toluene at low temperatures. The polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with t-BuLi/MeAI(ODBP)2 (AI/Li=5 mol/mol) in toluene at −78°C gave heterotactic-rich poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs) (heterotactic triad fraction mr = 68%, ratio of weight- to number-average molecular weights M̄w/M̄n = 1.06-1.17). Other alkyl methacrylates also gave heterotactic polymers under the same conditions; in particular, ethyl and butyl methacrylates gave polymers with heterotactic triad fractions of 87%. The highest triad heterotacticity of 91.6% was obtained for the polymerization of ethyl methacrylate at −95°C. Some characteristic features of this stereospecific polymerization were discussed based on the polymerization results combined with other structural information of the polymer such as chain-end stereostructure and stereosequence distribution in the main chain.  相似文献

A new ruthenium complex with an electron-donating aminoindenyl ligand induces a fast living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of a chloride initiator to give polymers with controlled and variable molecular weights (Mn = 103-105) and very narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.1). The structure and high activity of the catalyst were analyzed by X-ray crystallography and cyclic voltammetry in comparison to those of a similar complex with an indenyl ligand.  相似文献

The anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was initiated with a mixture of lithium amide of various secondary amines and nBuLi in the presence of YCl3, where an Y-ate complex was formed and an amide ligand on Y attacked MMA nucleophilically. In THF at −78 °C, PMMAs with narrow molecular weight distributions were obtained in high yields. The presence of a secondary amino group derived from the initiator at the polymer chain end was confirmed by MALDI-TOF-MS analyses. The initiating system using indoline as a secondary amine was effective for block copolymerization of MMA with tert-butyl acrylate (tBA), giving poly(MMA-b-tBA)s with narrow molecular weight distributions.  相似文献

The influence of bis[4,6-di-tert-butyl-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-o-iminobenzosemiquinonato]cobalt(ii) and 4,6-di-tert-butyl-N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-o-iminobenzosemiquinonato]-[4,6-di-tert-butyl-N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-o-amidophenolate]manganese(iii) on polymerization of methyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile (as a traditional radical initiator) and alkyl halides (used for initiation of controlled atom transfer radical polymerization process) was studied. The effect of the nature of the activating agents (amines) and the temperature conditions on the overall polymerization rate of the indicated monomers, as well as molecular weight characteristics of the synthesized polymers, were analyzed. The optimal conditions for the synthesis of polyacrylonitrile and poly(methyl methacrylate) with a relatively narrow molecular weight distribution were selected.  相似文献

Perfluoroalkylsulfonyl chlorides and bromides initiate metal catalyzed free radical polymerization of both hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon monomers affording polymers with perfluoroalkyl end groups. In the case of styrene (S) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) with Cu‐based catalysts the process affords polymers with a relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and linear dependence of molecular weight on conversion, suggesting that a living radical polymerization mechanism occurs. The orders of reaction in monomer, initiator and catalyst for these polymerizations were determined. In the case of PMMA, the detailed structure of a perfluorobutane chain‐end was determined by NMR analysis. Perfluoroalkylsulfonyl chlorides are stable in neutral aqueous media. This permits their use as initators for fluoroolefin polymerizations in H2O. Poly(tetrafluoroethylene‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) was obtained in good yield with few ionic end groups. The aqueous fluoroolefin polymerization appears to be catalyzed by metal zero species from the reactor walls. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 3313–3335, 2000  相似文献
