This study describes the preparation of polypyrrole (PPy)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) composites by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization. Various ratios of MWNTs, which served as hard templates, were first dispersed in aqueous solutions with the surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide to form micelle/MWNT templates and overcome the difficulty of MWNTs dispersing into insoluble solutions of pyrrole monomer, and PPy was then synthesized via in situ chemical oxidative polymerization on the surface of the templates. Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were used to characterize the structure and morphology of the fabricated composites. Structural analysis using FESEM and HRTEM showed that the PPy/MWNT composites were core (MWNT)–shell (PPy) tubular structures. Raman and FTIR spectra of the composites were almost identical to those of PPy, supporting the idea that MWNTs served as the core in the formation of a coaxial nanostructure for the composites. The conductivities of these PPy/MWNT composites were about 150% higher than those of PPy without MWNTs. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 1413–1418, 2006  相似文献

We reported the functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) with 4‐aminobenzoic acid by a “direct” Friedel–Crafts acylation reaction in a mild polyphosphoric acid (PPA)/phosphorous pentoxide (P2O5) medium. The resulting 4‐aminobenzoyl‐functionalized MWCNT (AF‐MWCNT) was used as a platform for the grafting of polypyrrole (PPy) in ammonium persulfate (APS)/aqueous hydrochloric acid solution to produce PPy‐grafted MWCNT (PPy‐g‐MWCNT) composite. After dedoping with alkaline treatment, PPy‐g‐MWCNT displayed 20 times higher electrical conductivity than that of PPy. The current density and cycle stability of PPy‐g‐MWCNT composite were also remarkably improved compared with those of PPy homopolymer, suggesting that an efficient electron transfer between PPy and MWCNT was possible through covalent links. In addition, PPy‐g‐MWCNT displayed high electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

This study describes the preparation of a nanocomposites fabricated from monodispersed 4‐nm iron oxide (Fe3O4) coated on the surface of carboxylic acid containing multi‐walled carbon nanotube (c‐MWCNT) and polypyrrole (PPy) by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization. High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy images and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) data indicate that the resulting Fe3O4 nanoparticles synthesized using the thermal decomposition are close to spherical dots with a particle size about 4 ± 0.2 nm. The resulting nanoparticles were further mixed with c‐MWCNT in an aqueous solution containing with anionic surfactant sodium bis(2‐ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate to form one‐dimensional Fe3O4 coated c‐MWCNT template for further preparation of nanocomposite. Structural and morphological analysis using field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, and XRD showed that the fabricated Fe3O4 coated c‐MWCNT/PPy nanocomposites are one‐dimensional core (Fe3O4 coated c‐MWCNT)‐shell (PPy) structures. The conductivities of these Fe3O4 coated c‐MWCNT/PPy nanocomposites are about four times higher than those of pure PPy matrix. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrate here a feasible approach to the preparation of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT)/polypyrrole (PPy) core–shell nanowires by in situ inverse microemulsion. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy showed that the carbon nanotubes were uniformly coated with a PPy layer with a thickness of several to several tens of nanometers, depending on the MWNT content. Fourier transform infrared spectra suggested that there was strong interaction between the π‐bonded surface of the carbon nanotubes and the conjugated structure of the PPy shell layer. The thermal stability and electrical conductivity of the MWNT/PPy composites were examined with thermogravimetric analysis and a conventional four‐probe method. In comparison with pure PPy, the decomposition temperature of the MWNT/PPy (1 wt % MWNT) composites increased from 305 to 335 °C, and the electrical conductivity of the MWNT/PPy (1 wt % MWNT) composites increased by 1 order of magnitude. The current–voltage curves of the MWNT/PPy nanocomposites followed Ohm's law, reflecting the metallic character of the MWNT/PPy nanocomposites. The cyclic voltammetry measurements revealed that PPy/MWNT composites showed an enhancement in the specific charge capacity with respect to that of pure PPy. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs)/polypyrrole (PPy) nano metacomposites are prepared by in situ polymerization in this article. The negative permittivity and negative permeability of CNFs/PPy nano metacomposites are achieved simultaneously. CNFs/PPy composites form different morphologies with the increase in CNFs content. Complex conductive networks formed by overlapped CNFs are present in CNFs/PPy composites with 30 and 50 wt % CNFs. The negative permittivity of the CNFs/PPy composites is attributed to the plasma oscillation of delocalized electrons, and the negative permeability results from a large number of conductive loops. The appearance of negative permeability is accompanied by the decrease in resistivity, which reflects that a large number of conductive loops are derived from complex conductive networks. Double negative property appears in the frequency range 845–1000 MHz in CNFs/PPy composites with 30 wt % CNFs content and 825–1000 MHz in CNFs/PPy composites with 50 wt % CNFs content. CNFs/PPy composites present double negative property in a wider frequency range compared with MWCNTs/PPy nanocomposites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Precursor of polyimide, polyamic acid has been prepared sucessfully. Acid‐modified carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was grafted with soluble polyimide then was added to the polyamic acid and heated to 300 °C to form polyimide/carbon nanotube composite via imidation. Morphology, mechanical properties and electrical resistivity of the MWCNT/polyimide composites have been studied. Transmission electron microscope microphotographs show that the diameter of soluble polyimide‐grafted MWCNT was increased from 30–60 nm to 200 nm, that is a thickness of 70–85 nm of the soluble polyimide was grafted on the MWCNT surface. PI‐g‐MWCNT was well dispersed in the polymer matrix. Percolation threshold of MWCNT/polyimide composites has been investigated. PI‐g‐MWCNT/PI composites exhibit lower electrical resistivity than that of the acid‐modified MWCNT/PI composites. The surface resistivity of 5.0 phr MWCNT/polyimide composites was 2.82 × 108 Ω/cm2 (PI‐g‐MWCNT) and 2.53 × 109 Ω/cm2 (acid‐modified MWCNT). The volume resistivity of 5.0 phr MWCNT/polyimide composites was 8.77 × 106 Ω cm (PI‐g‐MWCNT) and 1.33 × 1013 Ω cm (acid‐modified MWCNT).Tensile strength and Young's modulus increased significantly with the increase of MWCNT content. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A facile and versatile solution‐based approach was developed to prepare semiconductor metal oxide nanobelt‐conducting organic polymer core‐shell nanocomposites. Well‐defined nanobelts of several types of oxide nanobelts were combined with conducting polymer [polypyrrole (PPy) and polyaniline (PANi)] via in situ polymerization in aqueous solution to obtain a new type of inorganic–organic composite nanostructure. Samples were characterized by using X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, electron energy loss spectra, high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, and ultraviolet–visible techniques. Electron energy loss spectra revealed the existence of C?C and C? N bonds in coating layers to prove the encapsulation of PPy or PANi. The red‐shift of absorption band at high‐energy was observed for PPy‐encapsulated composites via ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and significant absorption band shifts were also encountered to PANi‐encapsulated composites, which suggest possibilities of band‐gap tuning of such metal oxide‐conducting polymer composites to be applied especially in solar cell devices. However, the sacrifice of nanobelts‐core led to hollow structures of PPy and PANi, which expands the synthetic strategies to prepare conducting polymer nanotubes. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work demonstrates a feasible route to synthesize the layered polypyrrole/graphite oxide (PPy/GO) composite by in situ emulsion polymerization in the presence of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as emulsifier. AFM and XRD results reveal that the GO can be delaminated into nanosheets and well dispersed in aqueous solution in the presence of CTAB. The PPy nanowires are formed due to the presence of the lamellar mesostructured (CTA)2S2O8 as a template. The results of the PPy/GO composite indicate the PPy insert successfully into GO interlayers, and the nanofiber‐like PPy are deposited onto the GO surface. Owing to π–π electron stacking effect between the pyrrole ring of PPy and the unoxided domain of GO sheets, the electrical conductivity of PPy/GO composite (5 S/cm) significantly improves in comparison with pure PPy nanowires (0.94 S/cm) and pristine GO (1 × 10?6 S/cm). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conducting polypyrrole (PPy)‐montmorillonite (MMT) clay nanocomposites have been synthesized by the in situ intercalative polymerization method. The PPy‐MMT nanocomposites are characterized by field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. XRD patterns show that after polymerization by the in situ intercalative method with ammonium persulfate and 1 M HCl, an increase in the basal spacing from 1.2 to 1.9 nm was observed, signifying that PPy is synthesized between the interlayer spaces of MMT. TEM and SEM micrographs suggest that the coexistence of intercalated MMT layers with the PPy macromolecules. FTIR reveals that there might be possible interfacial interactions present between the MMT clay and PPy matrix. The study also shows that the introduction of MMT clay results in thermal stability improvement of the PPy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 46: 2279–2285, 2008  相似文献

Conductivity relaxation spectra of interpenetrating network conducting composites of polypyrrole (PPy) and poly(styrene‐co‐butyl acrylate) (SBA) have been analysed on the basis of coupling model developed by Ngai. The macroscopic activation energy obtained from coupling model using the stretch exponent β compares favourably with the tunnel energy estimated from the overlapping large polaron tunnelling (OLPT) model. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Composites of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and sulfonated polyaniline (SPAN) were prepared through the oxidative polymerization of a mixture of aniline, 2,5‐diaminobenzene sulfonic acid, and MWCNTs. Fe, Pd, or Fe–Pd alloy nanoparticles were embedded into the MWCNT–SPAN matrix by the reduction of Fe, Pd, or a mixture of Fe and Pd ions with γ radiation. Sulfonic acid groups and the emeraldine form of backbone units in SPAN served as the source for the reduction of the metal ions in the presence of γ radiation. The existence of metallic/alloy particles in the MWCNT–SPAN matrix was further ascertained through characterization by high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and conductivity measurements. HRTEM pictures clearly revealed the existence of Fe, Pd, and Fe–Pd nanoparticles of various sizes in the MWCNT–SPAN matrices. There were changes in the electronic properties of the MWCNT–SPAN–M composites due to the interaction between the metal nanoparticles and MWCNT–SPAN. Metal‐nanoparticle‐loaded MWCNT–SPAN composites (MWCNT–SPAN–M; M = Fe, Pd, or Fe–Pd alloy) showed better thermal stability than the pristine polymers. The conductivity of the MWCNT–SPAN–M composites was approximately 1.5 S cm?1, which was much higher than that of SPAN (2.46 × 10?4 S cm?1). Metal/alloy‐nanoparticle‐embedded, MWCNT‐based composite materials are expected to find applications in molecular electronics and other fields. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymer nanocomposites consisting of multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and poly(ethylene 2,6‐naphthalate) (PEN) were prepared by a melt blending process in a twin‐screw extruder. The storage modulus (G′) and loss modulus (G″) of the PEN/MWCNT nanocomposites increased with increasing frequency, and this increment being more significant at low frequency. The terminal zone slope of G′ for the PEN/MWCNT nanocomposites decreased with increasing MWCNT content, and the nonterminal behavior of those was related to the dominant nanotube–nanotube interactions at higher MWCNT content, leading to the formation of the interconnected or network‐like structures of MWCNT in the polymer nanocomposites. The decrease in the slope of the plot of log G′ versus log G″ for the PEN/MWCNT nanocomposites with increasing MWCNT content suggested the changes in the microstructures of the polymer nanocomposites by incorporating MWCNT. The incorporation of very small quantity of MWCNT significantly improved the mechanical properties of the PEN/MWCNT nanocomposites. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel NiAl double hydroxide@polypyrrole (LDH@PPy) core–shell material was designed and fabricated by a facile in situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole (Py) monomer. The microstructure and morphology of the LDH@PPy composites were determined by X‐ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy/transmission electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric and differential thermal, revealing that the polypyrrole (PPy) was successfully coated onto the surface of the NiAl‐LDH (LDH) core and the loading amount of PPy impacted the thickness and the dispersion of the conductive PPy shell. The electrochemical performances of the LDH@PPy composites were also evaluated by cyclic voltammogram, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and galvanostatic charge–discharge measurements. The results indicated that the supercapacitor performances were attributed to the synergy of unique core–shell heterostructure and each individual component, where the LDH core provided the high‐energy storage capacity and the PPy shell with networks had high electronic conductivity. These shorted the ion diffusion pathway and made electrolyte ions more easily accessible for faradic reactions to enhance the electrochemical performance of the LDH@PPy composites. It was found that the LDH@PPy composite (LDH@PPy7) fabricated at 7 mL?L?1 of Py monomer feed exhibiting the best electrochemical performances with high specific capacitance of 437.5 F?g?1 at 2 A?g?1 and excellent capacitance retention of about 91% after 1000 cycles. The work provides a simple approach for designing organic–inorganic core–shell materials with potential application in supercapacitors. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Conducting polythiophene (PTh)/single‐wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) composites were synthesized by the in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method. The resulting cablelike morphology of the composite (SWNT–PTh) structures was characterized with elemental analysis, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X‐ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. The standard four‐point‐probe method was used to measure the conductivity of the samples. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that the SWNT–PTh composites were core (SWNTs) and shell (PTh) hybrid structures. Spectroscopic analysis data for the composites were almost identical to those for PTh, supporting the idea that SWNTs served as templates in the formation of a coaxial nanostructure for the composites. The physical properties of the composites were measured and also showed that the SWNTs were modified by conducting PTh with an enhancement of various properties. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The functionalized multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) had been prepared by free radical reaction with vinyltriethoxysilane. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)‐based poly(urea urethane) (PUU) was also synthesized. PUU was further end‐capped with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (A‐silane), or with phenyltrimethoxysilane (P‐silane). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Raman spectra and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the functionalization of MWNT. The Mn and Mw of PUU were 85,123 and 235,876 g/mol, respectively. Both A‐silane end‐capped PUU and P‐silane end‐capped PUU showed improved dispersion of MWNT compared with that of PUU and MWNT. Moreover, the reduced discrepancy of surface electrical resistance of the two sides of the MWNT/PUU nanocomposite film was found due to the homogeneous dispersion of MWNT. The microwave absorption and tensile strength of MWNT/PUU were also improved by the well dispersion of MWNT in PUU matrix. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology, microhardness, and electrical properties of composites consisting of conductive polypyrrole (PPy) dispersed into a nonconductive polypropylene matrix (PP) as pure component or in form of a sodium montmorillonite/PPy (MMT/PPy) composite have been studied. For comparison, also PP/MMT composites were studied. All types of composites were processed by compression molding or by melt mixing followed by compression molding into plates, which were used for characterization. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy was used to examine the morphology of the prepared materials. The investigation of electrical and dielectric properties was done by dielectric relaxation spectroscopy in a wide frequency range and was related to the composite composition and processing method. The analysis of the conductivity as a function of temperature indicated that the charge transfer mechanism could be described by the variable range hopping model in three dimensions. The microhardness of PP/MMT/PPy composites with different content of MMT or PPy was determined and the creep rate has been estimated. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new electrically conducting composite film from polypyrrole and 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-bis(phthalic anhydride)-based polyimide was prepared. Pyrrole and the dopant ion can easily penetrate through the polyimide substrate and electropolymerize on the platinum (Pt) electrode due to the swelling of the polyimide on the metal electrode. The electrochemical properties of polypyrrole-polyimide (PPy/PI) composite films have been investigated by using cyclic voltammetry. The PPy/PI composite film is suitable for use as the electroactive material owing to its stable and controllable electrochemical properties. The electrical conductivity of composites falls in the range 0.0035–15 S/cm. Scanning electron micrograph, FTIR, and thermal studies indicate that PPy and PI form a homogeneous material rather than a simple mixture. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The objective of this work was to prepare novel conductive blends of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with polypyrrole (PPy) and to compare their performance with PVDF/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites and novel PVDF/PPy/MWCNT hybrid systems. All the compositions were prepared by melt mixing using a miniature mixer. The mixtures were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM, respectively) and volume electrical resistivity. For the binary PVDF/PPy and PVDF/MWCNT systems, percolation thresholds of 10 and 0.3 wt%, respectively, were found. In the hybrid systems, however, the percolation threshold for each filler was lower than in the binary systems, but the electrical conductivities were always much higher at all concentrations than the conductivities of the binary systems. Therefore, the addition of both fillers had a synergistic effect on the hybrid system conductivity, which was attributed to its morphology: the PPy increased the homogeneity of the MWCNT distribution and decreased the available free volume for the MWCNT; as a result the MWCNT rolled around the PPy particles bridging them through the PVDF matrix, increasing the quantum tunneling effect and thus, the electrical conductivity of the system.  相似文献

Multi‐walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) modified by vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) via free radical reaction has been prepared (poly (vinyltriethoxysilane) modified MWCNTs, PVTES‐MWCNT). Precursor of polyimide, polyamic acid has been synthesized by reacting 4,4′‐oxydianiline with 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride. PVTES‐MWCNT were then mixed with polyamic acid and heated to 300 °C to form CNT/polyimide composite. During the imidization processes, the silanes on CNT surface reacted with each other and may be connected together by covalent bond (Si? O? Si). The PVTES‐MWCNT was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The PVTES‐MWCNT/polyimide composites were analyzed by CP/MAS solid state 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Morphological properties of the PVTES‐MWCNT/polyimide composites were investigated by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. Electrical conductivity increased dramatically comparing to the unmodified MWCNT/polyimide composites. Mechanical properties of nanocomposite were enhanced significantly by PVTES‐MWCNT. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 803–816, 2008  相似文献

Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic measurements have been undertaken to estimate the conformational energies of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) cast films in the temperature range of 40–130°C. The temperature dependence of the IR spectra in the C=O stretching region has been analyzed to yield the side-chain and backbone conformational energies. The estimated energies are close to those previously obtained by polarized Raman spectroscopic measurements for PAA solutions. Combining the FTIR value of conformational energy with the simplified rotational isomeric state (RIS) model proposed in the Raman analysis provides a persistence length in accordance with earlier SAXS experiments. The data also agree with the Gibbs-DiMarzio predictions, further substantiating the validity of the analysis. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys, 35: 507–515, 1997  相似文献
