The design, synthesis, and use of two new, stable, functionalized chain transfer agents (CTA's) containing OH and amine end groups for the RAFT polymerization is reported: 2‐hydroxyethoxy‐carbonylphenylmethyl dithiobenzoate and 2‐(2‐(tert‐butoxycarbonyl)ethylamino)‐2‐oxo‐1‐phenylethyl benzodithioate, respectively. The RAFT polymerization of n‐hexyl acrylate (HA) using those CTA's, were compared to several other functionalized dithiobenzoate esters reported in the literature containing COOH and Ester groups. The performances of the dithiobenzoates were compared in terms of kinetics and molecular weight distribution control. Good control in polymerization of n‐hexyl acrylate with a linear increase of Mn with conversion mantaining polydispersity indices (PDI) below 1.1 was obtained by use of the new functionalized CTA's developed and also by use of some other CTA's tested, to produce well‐defined linear polymers with one specific chain‐end functionality: ? OH, ? COOH or Amine. Using a postpolymerization reaction with functionalized azocompounds in a 5 to 1 ratio, α,ω‐telechelic polymers, with ? OH or ? COOH as functional group at the second end were obtained. By using this synthetic strategy α,ω‐homotelechelic and heterotelechelic polymers were readily prepared. The chemical availability of functional end‐groups in the telechelics was demonstrated by reaction with methacrylic anhydride. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel class of semifluorinated perfluorocyclohexenyl (PFCH) aryl ether homo/copolymers was successfully synthesized with high yield through the step‐growth polymerization of commercially available bisphenols and decafluorocyclohexene in the presence of a triethylamine base. The synthesized polymers exhibit variable thermal properties depending on the functional spacer group (R). PFCH aryl ether copolymers with random and alternating architectures were also prepared from versatile bis‐perfluorocyclohexenyl aryl ether monomers. The PFCH polymers show high thermal stabilities with a 5% decomposition temperature ranging from 359 to 444 °C in air and nitrogen atmosphere. These semifluorinated PFCH aromatic ether polymers contain intact enchained PFCH olefin moieties, making further reactions such as crosslinking and application specific functionalization possible. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. End group activation of polymers prepared by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization was accomplished by conversion of thiocarbonylthio end groups to thiols and subsequent reaction with excess of a bismaleimide. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) was prepared by RAFT, and subsequent aminolysis led to sulfhydryl‐terminated polymers that reacted with an excess of 1,8‐bismaleimidodiethyleneglycol to yield maleimido‐terminated macromolecules. The maleimido end groups allowed near‐quantitative coupling with model low molecular weight thiols or dienes by Michael addition or Diels‐Alder reactions, respectively. Reaction of maleimide‐activated PNIPAM with another thiol‐terminated polymer proved an efficient means of preparing block copolymers by a modular coupling approach. Successful end group functionalization of the well‐defined polymers was confirmed by combination of UV–vis, FTIR, and NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. The general strategy proved to be versatile for the preparation of functional telechelics and modular block copolymers from RAFT‐generated (co)polymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Palladium(II)‐catalyzed meta‐selective C?H allylation of arenes has been developed utilizing synthetically inert unactivated acyclic internal olefins as allylic surrogates. The strong σ‐donating and π‐accepting ability of pyrimidine‐based directing group facilitates the olefin insertion by overcoming inertness of the typical unactivated internal olefins. Exclusive allyl over styrenyl product selectivity as well as E stereoselectivity were achieved with broad substrate scope, wide functional‐group tolerance, and good to excellent yields. Late‐stage functionalisations of pharmaceuticals were demonstrated. Experimental and computational studies shed light on the mechanism and point to key steric control in the palladacycle, thus determining product selectivities.  相似文献

This contribution presents the synthesis of helical alkyne‐terminated polymers using a functionalized Nickel complex to initiate the polymerization of menthylphenyl isocyanides. The resulting polymers display low dispersities and controlled molecular weights. Copper‐catalyzed azide/alkyne cycloadditions (CuAAC) are performed to attach various azide‐containing compounds to the polymer termini. After azido‐phosphonate moiety attachment the polymer displays a signal at 25.4 ppm in the 31P NMR spectrum demonstrating successful end‐group functionalization. End‐group functionalization of a fluorescent dye allows to determine the functionalization yield as 89% (±8). Successful ligation of an azide‐functionalized peptide sequence (MKLA = 1547 g/mol) increases the Mn from 5100 for the parent polymer to 6700 for the bioconjugate as visualized by GPC chromatography. Analysis by CD spectroscopy confirms that the helical conformation of the poly(isocyanide) block in the peptide–polymer conjugate is maintained after postpolymerization modification. These results demonstrate an easy, generalizable, and versatile strategy toward mono‐telechelic helical polymers. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Herein, we investigate the influence of spacer length on the homoassociation and heteroassociation of end‐functionalized hydrogen‐bonding polymers based on poly(n‐butyl acrylate). Two monofunctional ureido‐pyrimidinone (UPy) end‐functionalized polymers were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization using self‐complementary UPy‐functional initiators that differ in the spacer length between the multiple‐hydrogen‐bonding group and the chain initiation site. The self‐complementary binding strength (Kdim) of these end‐functionalized polymers was shown to depend critically on the spacer length as evident from 1H NMR and diffusion‐ordered spectroscopy. In addition, the heteroassociation strength of the end‐functionalized UPy polymers with end‐functionalized polymers containing the complementary 2,7‐diamido‐1,8‐naphthyridine (NaPy) hydrogen‐bond motif is also affected when the aliphatic spacer length is too short. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of block copolymers via polymer conjugation of well‐defined building blocks offers excellent control over the structures obtained, but often several coupling strategies need to be explored to find an efficient one depending on the building blocks. To facilitate the synthesis of polymers with adjustable functional end‐groups for polymer conjugation, we report on the combination of activated ester chemistry with RAFT polymerization using a chain transfer agent (CTA) with a pentafluorophenyl ester (PFP‐CTA), which allows for flexible functionalization of either the CTA prior to polymerization or the obtained polymer after polymerization. Different polymethacrylates, namely PMMA, P(t‐BuMA) and PDEGMEMA, were synthesized with an alkyne‐CTA obtained from the aminolysis of the PFP‐CTA with propargylamine, and the successful incorporation of the alkyne moiety could be shown via 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and MALDI TOF MS. Further, the reactive α‐end‐groups of polymers synthesized using the unmodified PFP‐CTA could be converted into azide and alkyne end‐groups after polymerization, and the high functionalization efficiencies could be demonstrated via successful coupling of the resulting polymers via CuAAC. Thus, the PFP‐CTA allows for high combinatory flexibility in polymer synthesis facilitating polymer conjugation as useful method for the synthesis of block copolymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of trimethoxysilane end‐capped linear polystyrene (PS) and star‐branched PS and subsequent silicon (Si) surface modification with linear and star polymers are described. Trimethoxysilane terminated PS was synthesized using sec‐butyl lithium initiated anionic polymerization of styrene and subsequent end‐capping of the living anions with p‐chloromethylphenyl trimethoxysilane (CMPTMS). 1H and 29Si NMR spectroscopy confirmed the successful end‐capping of polystyryllithium with the trimethoxysilane functional group. The effect of a molar excess of end‐capper on the efficiency of functionalization was also investigated, and the required excess increased for higher molar mass oligomers. Acid catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation of the trimethoxysilane end‐groups resulted in star‐branched PS, and NMR spectroscopy and SEC analysis were used to characterize the star polymers. This is the first report of core‐functionalized star‐shaped polymers as surface modifiers and the first comparative study showing differences in surface topography between star and linear polymer modified surfaces. Surface‐sensitive techniques such as ellipsometry, contact angle goniometry, and AFM were used to confirm the attachment of star PS, as well as to compare the characteristics of the star and linear PS modified Si surfaces. The polymer film properties were referenced to polymer dimensions in dilute solution, which revealed that linear PS chains were in the intermediate brush regime and the star‐branched PS produced a surface with covalently attached chains in the mushroom regime. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aryloxo‐modified half‐titanocenes, Cp′TiCl2(O‐2,6‐iPr2C6H3) [Cp′ = Cp* ( 1 ), tBuC5H4 ( 2 )], catalyze terpolymerization of ethylene and styrene with α‐olefin (1‐hexene and 1‐decene) efficiently in the presence of cocatalyst, affording high‐molecular‐weight polymers with unimodal distributions (compositions). Efficient comonomer incorporations have been achieved by these catalysts. The content of each comonomer (α‐olefin, styrene, etc.) could be controlled by varying the comonomer concentration charged, and resonances ascribed to styrene and α‐olefin repeated insertion were negligible. The terpolymerization with p‐methylstyrene (p‐MS) in place of styrene also proceeded in the presence of [PhN(H)Me2][B(C6F5)4] and AliBu3 cocatalyst, and p‐MS was incorporated in an efficient matter, affording high‐molecular‐weight polymers with uniform molecular weight distributions. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Today's olefin metathesis catalysts show high reactivity, selectivity, and functional group tolerance and allow the design of new syntheses of precisely functionalized polymers. Here the synthesis of a new end‐capping reagent is investigated allowing the introduction of a highly reactive activated ester end‐group at the polymer chain end as well as its prefunctionalization to directly introduce functional moieties. The versatility of this new end‐capping reagent is demonstrated by utilizing it to synthesize a so‐called termimer (a monomer with termination capabilities). Copolymerization of a norbornene derivative with the termimer leads to hyperbranched ring‐opening metathesis polymerization polymers as proven by gel permeation chromatography and MALDI‐ToF‐(matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight) mass spectrometry.

A new AB2 monomer was synthesized for use in the preparation of a hyperbranched poly(aryl ether oxadiazole) with terminal phenol functionality. The AB2 monomer contains two phenolic groups and a single aryl fluoride group that is activated toward nucleophilic displacement by the attached oxadiazole ring. The nucleophilic substitution of the fluoride with the phenolate groups led to the formation of an ether linkage. Subsequently, a hyperbranched poly(aryl ether oxadiazole) having approximately a 44% degree of branching, as determined by a combination of model compound studies and 1H NMR, was obtained. The terminal phenolic groups underwent facile functionalization, furnishing hyperbranched polymers with a variety of functional chain ends. The nature of the chain‐end groups had a significant influence on the physical properties of the polymers, such as the glass‐transition temperature and their solubility. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A versatile strategy for the preparation of end‐functional polymers and block copolymers by radical exchange reactions is described. For this purpose, first polystyrene with 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl end group (PS‐TEMPO) is prepared by nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP). In the subsequent step, these polymers are heated to 130 °C in the presence of independently prepared TEMPO derivatives bearing hydroxyl, azide and carboxylic acid functionalities, and polymers such as poly(ethylene glycol) (TEMPO‐PEG) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (TEMPO‐PCL). Due to the simultaneous radical generation and reversible termination of the polymer radical, TEMPO moiety on polystyrene is replaced to form the corresponding end‐functional polymers and block copolymers. The intermediates and final polymers are characterized by 1H NMR, UV, IR, and GPC measurements. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2019 , 57, 2387–2395  相似文献

Several new triptycene‐containing polyetherolefins were synthesized via acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization. The well‐established mechanism, high selectivity and specificity, mild reaction conditions, and well‐defined end‐groups make the ADMET polymerization a good choice for studying systematic variations in polymer structure. Two types of triptycene‐based monomer with varying connectivities were used in the synthesis of homopolymers, block copolymers, and random copolymers. In this way, the influence of the triptycene architecture and concentration in the polymer backbone on the thermal behavior of the polymers was studied. Inclusion of increasing amounts of triptycene were found to increase the glass transition temperature, from ?44 °C in polyoctenamer to 59 °C in one of the hydrogenated triptycene homopolymers ( H‐PT2 ). Varying the amounts and orientations of triptycene was found to increase the stiffness ( H‐PT1 ), toughness ( PT11b‐PO1 ) and ductility ( PT11ran‐PO3 ) of the polymer at room temperature. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This investigation reports the preparation and characterization of thermally amendable functional polymer bearing furfuryl functionality via reversible‐addition fragmentation and chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and Diels‐Alder (DA) reaction. In this case, furfuryl methacrylate (FMA) was polymerized using 4‐cyano‐4‐[(dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonyl)sulfanyl] pentanoic acid as RAFT reagent and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanovaleric acid) as thermal initiator. 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analysis showed that furfuryl group in poly(furfuryl methacrylate) (PFMA) was not affected during RAFT polymerization and the tailor‐made polymer had RAFT end group. The DA reaction was successfully carried out between the reactive furfuryl functionality of PFMA and different bismaleimides. The thermoreversible property of these DA polymers was characterized by FT‐IR and DSC analysis. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2013 , 51, 3365–3374  相似文献

N,N′‐disubstituted hyperbranched polyureas with methyl, benzyl, and allyl substitutents were synthesized starting from AB2 monomers based on 3,5‐diamino benzoic acid. Carbonyl azide approach, which generates isocyanate group in situ on thermal decomposition, was used for the protection of isocyanate functional groups. The N‐substituted hyperbranched polymers can be considered as the new class of internally functionalized hyperbranched polyureas wherein the substituent can function either as receptor or as a chemical entity for selective transformations as a tool to tailor the properties. The chain‐ends were also modified by attaching long chain aliphatic groups to fully realize the interior functionalization. This approach opens up a possible synthetic route wherein different functional substituents can be used to generate a library of internally functionalized hyperbranched polymers. All the hyperbranched polyureas were characterized by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, DSC, TGA, and size exclusion chromatography. Degree of branching in these N,N′‐disubstituted hyperbranched polyureas, as calculated by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy using model compounds, was found to be lower than the unsubstituted hyperbranched polyurea and is attributed to the lower reactivity of N‐substituted amines compared to that of unsubstituted amines. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The functionalization of polymeric organolithiums (PLi) with 3,4‐epoxy‐1‐butene (EPB) in a hydrocarbon solution yielded the corresponding hydroxybutene‐functionalized polymers in high yields (>95%). Three modes of addition of PLi to EPB were observed (1,4, 3,4, and 4,3). The products and chain‐end structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, attached‐proton‐test 13C NMR, calculated 13C NMR chemical shifts, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS). The regioselectivity of the addition depended on the PLi chain‐end structure, the reaction conditions, and the addition of lithium salts or Lewis bases. In the absence of additives, the functionalization of poly(styryl)lithium (PSli) produced equal amounts of 1,4‐, 3,4‐, and 4,3‐addition, as determined by quantitative 13C NMR analysis. The use of a low temperature (6 °C), inverse addition, the addition of triethylamine (TEA; [TEA]/[PSLi] = 20) as a Lewis base, or dienyllithium chain ends produced polymers with only the 1,4‐addition product. Mild dehydration of the hydroxybutene‐functionalized polymer with p‐toluenesulfonic acid produced the corresponding diene‐functionalized macromonomer, as shown by MALDI‐TOF MS. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five different polymers, poly[methyl methacrylate] (PMMA), poly[lauryl methacrylate] (PLMA), poly[diethylene glycol methacrylate] (PDEGMA), poly[N‐isopropylacrylamide] (PNIPA), and poly[styrene] (PS) prepared by the RAFT process and thus terminated with dithioesters were aminolyzed in the presence of S‐3‐butynyl methane thiosulfonate (MTS), which was synthesized in two steps. Analysis of the polymers by 2D NMR, UV–vis absorbance, and gel permeation chromatography revealed them to quantitatively carry acetylene end groups connected with disulfide bridges, indicating that functional MTS reagents can be employed for end group functionalization of RAFT polymers. This versatile method is of advantage compared with conjugations with functional maleimides, where isolation of terminal thiols is often required but inexpedient for poly[(meth)acrylates] because their terminal thiols may undergo backbiting and thus avoid conjugation. The acetylene‐terminated polymers were bound to an azide functionalized glass surface in a Cu(I) catalyzed cycloaddition. The modified surfaces exhibited water contact angles corresponding to the polarity of the attached polymers. In the case of the stimulus responsive polymers PNIPA and PDEGMA, the surfaces showed temperature‐dependent contact angles. The disulfide bond connecting the polymers to the surface could be selectively cleaved and resulted in all surfaces having the same contact angle, independent of the nature of the polymer prior attached to the surface. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate)s (PMMAs) of two different molecular weights having a single photochromic benzospiropyran (BSP) end‐group were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Polymer characterization by 1H NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionitiation time of flight‐mass spectroscopy confirms that using an ATRP initiator equipped with BSP, a near quantitative functionalization of the PMMA with the BSP was achieved. Both polymers exhibit photochroism characterized by the UV‐induced transition from BSP to benzomerocyanine (BMC) in acetonitrile. However, a strong molecular weight dependence of the thermal relaxation kinetic of the BMC was found with a significantly faster temperature‐dependent transition for the higher molecular weight polymer. Thermodynamic analysis of the process revealed a higher gain in the entropy of activation ΔS± for the transition process in the higher molecular weight polymer. This suggests an energetically unfavorable nonpolar environment of the BMC group in the higher molecular weight polymers, although a higher solvation of the BMC in the lower molecular weight polymer contributes to its stabilization. The ability of the BMC polymer end‐groups to organize was shown in metal ion‐binding experiments forming bivalently linked complexes with Co ions. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydroxyl chain‐end functionalizations of polymeric organolithium compounds with oxetane (trimethylene oxide) were studied in benzene at 25 °C. Functionalizations of poly(styryl)lithium and polystyrene‐oligo‐butadienyllithium proceed efficiently to form the corresponding ω‐hydroxypropyl‐functionalized polymers in 98 and 97% isolated yields, respectively. No nonfunctional polymer (≤1–2%) was detected by thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis for either polymer. All functionalized polymers were characterized by 13C and 1H NMR analyses; no evidence for oxetane oligomerization at the chain end was observed. The MALDI‐TOF mass spectrum of ω‐hydroxypropylpolystyrene was consistent with the expected structure without any detectable oligomerization of oxetane. A small, but detectable series of peaks corresponding to nonfunctional polystyrene was also observed in the MALDI‐TOF mass spectrum. The functionalization of the adduct of 1,1‐diphenylethylene and PSLi produced the corresponding ω‐hydroxypropyl‐functionalized polymer in only 86% isolated yield. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel N‐hydroxy succinimide‐based carbonate monomer that allows direct synthesis of polymers incorporating a reactive carbonate group in the side chain was synthesized. This new monomer was copolymerized with methyl methacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) methylether methacrylate using free‐radical polymerization to obtain organo‐ and water‐soluble reactive copolymers. Copolymerization of the activated carbonate monomer with an azide‐containing monomer and N‐hydroxy succinimide‐containing activated ester monomer provided orthogonally functionalizable copolymers. The pendant reactive carbonate groups of the copolymers were functionalized with amines to obtain carbamates. Polymers capable of orthogonal functionalization could be selectively functionalized as desired using subsequent 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition or amidation reactions. The novel monomer and the copolymers were characterized by 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and infrared spectroscopy. The efficient stepwise orthogonal functionalization of the copolymers were examined via 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献
