The unsteady stagnation point flow impinging obliquely on a flat plate in presence of a uniform applied magnetic field due to an oscillating stream has been studied. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into dimensionless form and the stream function is expressed in terms of Hiemenz and tangential components. The dimensionless partial differential equations are solved numerically by using well-known implicit finite difference scheme named as Keller-box method. The obtained results are compared with those available in the literature. It is observed that the results are in excellent agreement with the previous studies. The effects of pertinent parameters involved in the problem namely magnetic parameter, Prandtl number and impinging angle on flow and heat transfer characteristics are illustrated through graphs. It is observed that the influence of magnetic field strength increases the fluid velocity and by the increase of obliqueness parameter, the skin friction increases.  相似文献

The influence of radiation and chemical reaction on a natural convective MHD flow through a porous medium bounded by a vertical infinite surface in the presence of transverse magnetic field is studied. The basic equations governing the flow, heat and mass transfer are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations by appropriate transformations. Governing equations are solved by perturbation technique for velocity, temperature and concentration, and that has been presented graphically for different values of involved parameters. It is observed that effects of magnetic parameter and radiation parameter in the flow field affect the flow significantly.  相似文献

A novel methodology is proposed for the solution of the flow equation in a variably saturated heterogeneous porous medium. The computational domain is descretized using triangular meshes and the governing PDEs are discretized using a lumped in the edge centres numerical technique. The dependent unknown variable of the problem is the piezometric head. A fractional time step methodology is applied for the solution of the original system, solving consecutively a prediction and a correction problem. A scalar potential of the flow field exists and in the prediction step a MArching in Space and Time (MAST) formulation is applied for the sequential solution of the Ordinary Differential Equation of the cells, ordered according to their potential value computed at the beginning of the time step. In the correction step, the solution of a large linear system with order equal to the number of edges is required. A semi-analytical procedure is also proposed for the solution of the prediction step. The computational performance, the order of convergence and the mass balance error have been estimated in several tests and compared with the results of other literature models.  相似文献

The steady two-dimensional MHD stagnation point flow towards a stretching sheet with variable surface temperature is investigated. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases with the magnetic parameter when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, i.e. ε>1, and the opposite is observed when ε<1.  相似文献

A steady two-dimensional free convective flow of a viscous incompressible fluid along a vertical stretching sheet with the effect of magnetic field, radiation and variable thermal conductivity in porous media is analyzed. The nonlinear partial differential equations, governing the flow field under consideration, have been transformed by a similarity transformation into a systemof nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved numerically. Resulting non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles are then presented graphically for different values of the parameters. Finally, the effects of the pertinent parameters, which are of physical and engineering interest, are examined both in graphical and tabular form.  相似文献

An analysis is performed to study the free convective flow over a moving vertical porous plate with variable temperature under the influence of magnetic field and thermal radiation. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing-emitting radiation, but a nonscattering medium. The dimensionless governing equations are solved using the Laplace transform technique. The velocity, temperature, skin friction and Nusselt number are studied for different parameters like the radiation parameter, Grashof number, Prandtl number, magnetic field parameter, permeability parameter, and time. It is observed that the velocity decreases with increasing radiation parameter.  相似文献

The laminar flow problem of convective heat transfer for a second grade fluid over a semi-infinite plate in the presence of species concentration and chemical reaction is investigated. The governing equations are transformed into a dimensionless system of three non-linear coupled partial differential equations. These equations have been solved analytically subject to the relevant boundary conditions by employing a homotopy analysis method (HAM). It is noted that for the arising system, the HAM performs extremely well in terms of efficiency and simplicity. The influence of dimensionless pertinent parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration fields has been examined carefully.

The steady laminar boundary layer flow of Carreau nanofluid over a stretching sheet is investigated. Effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are present. Heat transfer is characterized using convective boundary condition at the sheet. The governing partial differential equations are reduced into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations through suitable transformations. Results of velocity, temperature and concentration fields are computed via homotopic procedure. Numerical values of skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are computed and discussed. A comparative study with existing solutions in a limiting sense is made.  相似文献

By virtue of a new scalar potential function and Hankel integral transforms, the wave propagation analysis of a thermoelastic transversely isotropic half-space is presented under buried loading and heat flux. The governing equations of the problem are the differential equations of motion and the energy equation of the coupled thermoelasticity theory. Using a scalar potential function, these coupled equations have been uncoupled and a six-order partial differential equation governing the potential function is received. The displacements, temperature, and stress components are obtained in terms of this potential function in cylindrical coordinate system. Applying the Hankel integral transform to suppress the radial variable, the governing equation for potential function is reduced to a six-order ordinary differential equation with respect to z. Solving that equation, the potential function and therefore displacements, temperature, and stresses are derived in the Hankel transformed domain for two regions. Using inversion of Hankel transform, these functions can be obtained in the real domain. The integrals of inversion Hankel transform are calculated numerically via Mathematica software. Our numerical results for displacement and temperature are calculated for surface excitations and compared with the results reported in the literature and a very good agreement is achieved.  相似文献

In the present analysis, a numerical study is performed to examine the heat transfer characteristics of a convective flow over a vertical plate under the combined effects of magnetic field and thermal radiation in the presence of heat source/sink. The surface of the plate is subjected to a variable surface temperature. The boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced to non-dimensional equations valid in the free convection regime using the suitable non-dimensional parameters. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an implicit finite difference method of Crank—Nicolson type which is fast convergent, more accurate and unconditionally stable. Numerical results are obtained and presented for velocity, temperature, local and average wall shear stress, local and average Nusselt number in air. The present results are compared with the results available in the literature and are found to be in an excellent agreement.  相似文献

The Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) for phonons has found prolific use for the prediction of non-equilibrium heat conduction phenomena in semiconductor materials. This article presents a new hybrid formulation and associated numerical procedures for solution of the BTE for phonons. In this formulation, the phonon intensity is first split into two components: ballistic and diffusive. The governing equation for the ballistic component is solved using two different established methods that are appropriate for use in complex geometries, namely the discrete ordinates method (DOM), and the control angle discrete ordinates method (CADOM). The diffusive component, on the other hand, is determined by invoking the first-order spherical harmonics (or P1) approximation, which results in a Helmholtz equation with Robin boundary conditions. Both governing equations, referred to commonly as the ballistic-diffusive equations (BDE), are solved using the unstructured finite-volume procedure. Results of the hybrid method are compared against benchmark Monte Carlo results, as well as solutions of the BTE using standalone DOM and CADOM for two two-dimensional transient heat conduction problems at various Knudsen numbers. Subsequently, the method is explored for a large-scale three-dimensional geometry in order to assess convergence and computational cost. It is found that the proposed hybrid method is accurate at all Knudsen numbers. From an efficiency standpoint, the hybrid method is found to be superior to direct solution of the BTE both for steady state as well as for unsteady non-equilibrium heat conduction calculations with the computational gains increasing with increase in problem size.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to study the dual nature of solutions for the forced convective boundary layer flow and heat transfer in a cross flow with viscous dissipation terms in the energy equation. The governing equations are transformed into a set of three self-similar ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. These equations are solved numerically using the very efficient shooting method. This study reveals that the dual solutions of the transformed similarity equations for velocity and temperature distributions exist for certain values of the moving parameter, Prandtl number, and Eckert numbers. The reverse heat flux is observed for larger Eckert numbers; that is, heat absorption at the wall occurs.  相似文献

A computational research was performed to analyze the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) convective heat transfer in a differentially heated dielectric-MWCNT nanofluid layer. The study was conducted on a square enclosure subjected to a temperature gradient between these two vertical walls as well as a potential difference between these horizontal walls. The enclosure was filled with MWCNT oil-based nanofluid; the MWCNT nanoparticles were dispersed in a perfectly insulating thermal oil with a volume fraction of hardly exceeded 0.4%. The governing equations were derived with the assumption of homogeneous nanofluid and were solved with employing finite volume method. Based on the obtained results, it was found that the increase of Rayleigh number, electric Rayleigh number and nanoparticle concentration enhanced the heat transfer. For high thermal and electric Rayleigh number values, the flow and heat transfer became time dependent and accordingly a frequency study was also performed. It was found that the inclusion of an electric field with the addition of nanoparticles led to a significant heat transfer enhancement of about 43%.  相似文献

The current study focuses on the numerical investigation of the mixed convective peristaltic mechanism through a vertical tube for non-zero Reynolds and wave number. In the set of constitutional equations, energy equation contains the term representing heat generation parameter. The problem is formulated by dropping the assumption of lubrication theory that turns the model mathematically into a system of the nonlinear partial differential equations. The results of the long wavelength in a creeping flow are deduced from the present analysis. Thus, the current study explores the neglected features of peristaltic heat flow in the mixed convective model by considering moderate values of Reynolds and wave numbers. The finite element based on Galerkin's weighted residual scheme is applied to solve the governing equations. The computed solution is presented in the form of contours of streamlines and isothermal lines, velocity and temperature profiles for variation of different involved parameters. The investigation shows that the strength of circulation for stream function increases by increasing the wave number and Reynolds number. Symmetric isotherms are reported for small values of time-mean flow. Linear behavior of pressure is noticed by vanishing inertial forces while the increase in pressure is observed by amplifying the Reynolds number.  相似文献

This paper deals with the dynamics of scalar field thin shell in the Reissner-Nordstr?m geometry. The Israel junction conditions between Reissner-Nordstr?m spacetimes are derived, which lead to the equation of motion of scalar field shell and Klien–Gordon equation. These equations are solved numerically by taking scalar field model with the quadratic scalar potential. It is found that solution represents the expanding and collapsing scalar field shell. For the better understanding of this problem, we investigate the case of massless scalar field (by taking the scalar field potential zero). Also, we evaluate the scalar field potential when p is an explicit function of R. We conclude that both massless as well as massive scalar field shell can expand to infinity at constant rate or collapse to zero size forming a curvature singularity or bounce under suitable conditions.  相似文献

Current study examines the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of a Casson nanofluid over an exponentially permeable shrinking sheet with convective boundary condition. Moreover, we have considered the suction/injection effects on the wall. By applying the appropriate transformations, system of non-linear partial differential equation along with the boundary conditions are transformed to couple non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting systems of non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method. Numerical results for velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume concentration are presented through graphs for various values of dimensionless parameters. Effects of parameters for heat transfer at wall and nanoparticle volume concentration are also presented through graphs and tables. At the end, fluid flow behavior is examined through stream lines. Concluding remarks are provided for the whole analysis.  相似文献
