Let be a G-symmetric graph whose vertex set admits a nontrivial G-invariant partition with block size v. Let be the quotient graph of relative to and [B,C] the bipartite subgraph of induced by adjacent blocks B,C of . In this paper we study such graphs for which is connected, (G, 2)-arc transitive and is almost covered by in the sense that [B,C] is a matching of v-1 2 edges. Such graphs arose as a natural extremal case in a previous study by the author with Li and Praeger. The case K v+1 is covered by results of Gardiner and Praeger. We consider here the general case where K v+1, and prove that, for some even integer n 4, is a near n-gonal graph with respect to a certain G-orbit on n-cycles of . Moreover, we prove that every (G, 2)-arc transitive near n-gonal graph with respect to a G-orbit on n-cycles arises as a quotient of a graph with these properties. (A near n-gonal graph is a connected graph of girth at least 4 together with a set of n-cycles of such that each 2-arc of is contained in a unique member of .)  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior as h0 of the solution of a mixed boundary value problem is investigated for an elliptic (in the sense of Petrovskii) system of second-order differential equations in the n-dimensional cylinder Q h =×(–h/2, h/2) of small altitude h; is a domain in R n –1. The limit problem in contains a small parameter =h , (0, 1), for higher-order derivatives and degenerates regularly, as 0, into an elliptic problem of a lower order. It is shown that the limit problem and its corresponding degenerate problem (=0) are uniquely solvable. An estimate for the difference of solutions of the original and the limit problem in the energy norm is established. The paper deals with a problem of developing an inverse-scattering based formalism for solving problems for the cubic nonlinear (or the modified Korteweg–de Vries (KdV)) equations: q t +q xxx +6q 2 q x =0, 0x<, –<t<,q t +q xxx –6q 2 q x =0, with the given initial and boundary conditions: q(x,0)=q(x),q(0,t)=p(t), p(t)L 1(–,). The relation between the solution of the initial-boundary value problem (1), (3), (4) and that of the KdV equation on the half-line is shown. The Cauchy problem for the cubic nonlinear equation: q t +q xxx –6|q|2 q x =0, 0x<, –<t<, with the given initial condition (3) is considered also. In this paper solutions in series form for the stresses due to a nucleus of thermo-elastic strain in an infinite elastic solid in the presence of a spherical cavity and also in an elastic solid sphere have been found.
Zusammenfassung Die thermischen Spannungen in einem festen Körper unendlicher Ausdehnung, welcher einen sphärischen Hohlraum enthält, sind bei einer Temperatur von 0°C in Gegenwart eines erhitzten Elementes, das sich in endlichem Abstand vom Hohlraum befindet, hergeleitet worden, wobei zahlenmässige Angaben für die Spannungen und Verschiebungen an der Oberfläche des Hohlraums gemacht werden können. Die Ergebnisse sind mit den entsprechenden, für den zweidimensionalen Fall gültigen Zahlenwerten verglichen worden. Ferner was es möglich, auch für das Problem einer festen Kugel von der Temperatur 0°C und einem erhitzten Kern in ihrem Innern eine Lösung zu finden.

Summary Let x denote the time at which a random walk with finite positive mean first passes into (x, ), wherex0. This paper establishes the asymptotic behaviour of Pr { x >n} asn for fixedx in two cases. In the first case the left hand tail of the step-distribution is regularly varying, and in the second the step-distribution satisfies a one-sided Cramér type condition. As a corollary, it follows that in the first case Pr { x >n}/Pr{ 0 >n} coincides with the limit of the same quantity for recurrent random walk satisfying Spitzer's condition, but in the second case the limit is more complicated.  相似文献

Soit D(G/H) l'algèbre des opérateurs différentiels G-invariants sur G/H. Une question posée par Duflo et Corwin-Greenleaf consiste à voir si la finitude des multiplicités de est équivalente à la commutativité de D (G/H). Nous répondons positivement à cette question quand H est normal dans G. Lorsque H n'est pas normal, nous préparons le terrain pour d'espaces homogènes nilpotents et nous répondons à la question dans différents cas. Summary A generalized Stokes problem is addressed in the framework of a domain decomposition method, in which the physical computational domain is partitioned into two subdomains 1 and 2.Three different situations are covered. In the former, the viscous terms are kept in both subdomains. Then we consider the case in which viscosity is dropped out everywhere in . Finally, a hybrid situation in which viscosity is dropped out only in 1 is addressed. The latter is motivated by physical applications.In all cases, correct transmission conditions across the interface between 1 and 2 are devised, and an iterative procedure involving the successive resolution of two subproblems is proposed.The numerical discretization is based upon appropriate finite elements, and stability and convergence analysis is carried out.We also prove that the iteration-by-subdomain algorithms which are associated with the various domain decomposition approaches converge with a rate independent of the finite element mesh size.This work was partially supported by CIRA S.p.A. under the contract Coupling of Euler and Navier-Stokes equations in hypersonic flowsDeceased  相似文献
