We specify the structure of the power series determining a solution of a Fuchsian second-order differential equation with polynomial coefficients in a neighborhood of zero. The power series is represented via hypergeometric functions of fractional order. The structure of the coefficients of the series is clarified.  相似文献

We present a symbolic technique for computing the exact or approximate solutions of linear differential systems with meromorphic coefficients. To any system of that form, we attach a non-commutative generating series F. The combinatorial decomposition of F allows to get the solution as a polynomial in Dirichlet functions, or hypergeometric functions, that are built from the coefficients of the system.  相似文献

It is well-known that differentiation of hypergeometric function multiplied by a certain power function yields another hypergeometric function with a different set of parameters. Such differentiation identities for hypergeometric functions have been used widely in various fields of applied mathematics and natural sciences. In this expository note, we provide a simple proof of the differentiation identities, which is based only on the definition of the coefficients for the power series expansion of the hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

A new method is presented for Fourier decomposition of the Helmholtz Green function in cylindrical coordinates, which is equivalent to obtaining the solution of the Helmholtz equation for a general ring source. The Fourier coefficients of the Green function are split into their half advanced + half retarded and half advanced–half retarded components, and closed form solutions for these components are then obtained in terms of a Horn function and a Kampé de Fériet function respectively. Series solutions for the Fourier coefficients are given in terms of associated Legendre functions, Bessel and Hankel functions and a hypergeometric function. These series are derived either from the closed form 2-dimensional hypergeometric solutions or from an integral representation, or from both. A simple closed form far-field solution for the general Fourier coefficient is derived from the Hankel series. Numerical calculations comparing different methods of calculating the Fourier coefficients are presented. Fourth order ordinary differential equations for the Fourier coefficients are also given and discussed briefly.  相似文献

We present three orthogonal properties for a typical class of hypergeometric functions. We employ orthogonal properties to generate a theory concerning infinite series expansions involving our hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

We present a weighted norm inequality involving convolutions of arbitrary analytic functions and certain confluent hypergeometric functions. This result implies a family of weighted norm inequalities both for entire functions of exponential type and for (generalized) hypergeometric series. The approach is based on author's general inequality for continuous functions and some hypergeometric transformations.  相似文献

We describe a method of obtaining weighted norm inequalities for generalized hypergeometric functions. This method is based upon our recent convolution theorem and some classical hypergeometric identities. In particular, it is shown that some product identities involving the divergent hypergeometric series lead to the convergent hypergeometric inequalities. A number of the new weighted norm inequalities for the Gaussian hypergeometric function, confluent hypergeometric function, and other generalized hypergeometric functions are presented.  相似文献

A generalization to several variables of the Gauss hypergeometric series has been given in [13]. Defining generalized hypergeometric coefficients as Schur function transforms of this series, we develop here new properties and relations possessed by these coefficients. An integral representation of the generalized hypergeometric series is developed and application to q-analog series indicated.  相似文献

We consider non-terminating Gauss hypergeometric series with one free parameter. Using various properties of hypergeometric functions we obtain some necessary conditions of arithmetic flavor for such series to admit gamma product formulas.  相似文献

The two most commonly used hypergeometric functions are the confluent hypergeometric function and the Gauss hypergeometric function. We review the available techniques for accurate, fast, and reliable computation of these two hypergeometric functions in different parameter and variable regimes. The methods that we investigate include Taylor and asymptotic series computations, Gauss–Jacobi quadrature, numerical solution of differential equations, recurrence relations, and others. We discuss the results of numerical experiments used to determine the best methods, in practice, for each parameter and variable regime considered. We provide “roadmaps” with our recommendation for which methods should be used in each situation.  相似文献

Elliott's identity involving the Gaussian hypergeometric series contains, as a special case, the classical Legendre identity for complete elliptic integrals. The aim of this paper is to derive a differentiation formula for an expression involving the Gaussian hypergeometric series, which, for appropriate values of the parameters, implies Elliott's identity and which also leads to concavity/convexity properties of certain related functions. We also show that Elliott's identity is equivalent to a formula of Ramanujan on the differentiation of quotients of hypergeometric functions. Applying these results we obtain a number of identities associated with the Legendre functions of the first and the second kinds, respectively.  相似文献

The irreducible -representations of the Lie algebra consist of discrete series representations, principal unitary series and complementary series. We calculate Racah coefficients for tensor product representations that consist of at least two discrete series representations. We use the explicit expressions for the Clebsch–Gordan coefficients as hypergeometric functions to find explicit expressions for the Racah coefficients. The Racah coefficients are Wilson polynomials and Wilson functions. This leads to natural interpretations of the Wilson function transforms. As an application several sum and integral identities are obtained involving Wilson polynomials and Wilson functions. We also compute Racah coefficients for , which turn out to be Askey–Wilson functions and Askey–Wilson polynomials. This research was done during my stay at the Department of Mathematics at Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University in Sweden, supported by a NWO-TALENT stipendium of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).  相似文献

It is well-known that hypergeometric functions satisfy first order difference-differential equations (DDEs) with rational coefficients, relating the first derivative of hypergeometric functions with functions of contiguous parameters (with parameters differing by integer numbers). However, maybe it is not so well known that the continuity of the coefficients of these DDEs implies that the real zeros of such contiguous functions are interlaced. Using this property, we explore interlacing properties of hypergeometric and confluent hypergeometric functions (Bessel functions and Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials as particular cases).  相似文献

We present some basic identities for hypergeometric functions associatedwith the integrals of Euler type. We give a geometrical proof for formulaesuch as the identity between the single and double integrals expressingAppell's hypergeometric series F1 (a, b, b' c; x, y).  相似文献

We introduce one scalar function f of a complex variable and finitely many parameters, which allows to represent all solutions of the so-called hypergeometric system of Okubo type under the assumption that one of the two coefficient matrices has all distinct eigenvalues. In the simplest non-trivial situation, f is equal to the hypergeometric function, while in other more complicated cases it is related, but not equal, to the generalized hypergeometric functions. In general, however, this function appears to be a new higher transcendental one. The coefficients of the power series of f about the origin can be explicitly given in terms of a generalized version of the classical Pochhammer symbol, involving two square matrices that in general do not commute. The function can also be characterized by a Volterra integral equation, whose kernel is expressed in terms of the solutions of another hypergeometric system of lower dimension.  相似文献

We present a method of high-precision computation of the confluent hypergeometric functions using an effective computational approach of what we termed Franklin-Friedman expansions. These expansions are convergent under mild conditions of the involved amplitude function and for some interesting cases the coefficients can be rapidly computed, thus providing a viable alternative to the conventional dichotomy between series expansion and asymptotic expansion. The present method has been extensively tested in different regimes of the parameters and compared with recently investigated convergent and uniform asymptotic expansions.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive explicit product formulas and positive convolution structures for three continuous classes of Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions of type BC. For specific discrete series of multiplicities these hypergeometric functions occur as the spherical functions of non-compact Grassmann manifolds G/K over one of the skew fields F=R,C,H. We write the product formula of these spherical functions in an explicit form which allows analytic continuation with respect to the parameters. In each of the three cases, we obtain a series of hypergroup algebras which include the commutative convolution algebras of K-biinvariant functions on G as special cases. The characters are given by the associated hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

Spectral analysis of a certain doubly infinite Jacobi operator leads to orthogonality relations for confluent hypergeometric functions, which are called Laguerre functions. This doubly infinite Jacobi operator corresponds to the action of a parabolic element of the Lie algebra su(l, 1). The Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for the tensor product representation of a positive and a negative discrete series representation of su(l,l) are determined for the parabolic bases. They turn out to be multiples of Jacobi functions. From the interpretation of Laguerre polynomials and functions as overlap coefficients, we obtain a product formula for the Laguerre polynomials, given by an integral over Laguerre functions, Jacobi functions and continuous dual Hahn polynomials.  相似文献
