The supramolecular host assembly [Ga(4)L(6)](12-) (1; L = 1,5-bis[2,3-dihydroxybenzamido]naphthalene) encapsulates cationic guest molecules within its hydrophobic cavity and catalyzes a variety of chemical transformations within its confined interior space. Despite the well-defined structure, the host ligand framework and interior cavity are very flexible and 1 can accommodate a wide range of guest shapes and sizes. These observations raise questions about the steric effects of confinement within 1 and how encapsulation fundamentally changes the motions of guest molecules. Here we examine the motional dynamics (guest bond rotation and tumbling) of encapsulated guest molecules to probe the steric consequences of encapsulation within host 1. Encapsulation is found to increase the Ph-CH(2) bond rotational barrier for ortho-substituted benzyl phosphonium guest molecules by 3 to 6 kcal/mol, and the barrier is found to depend on both guest size and shape. The tumbling dynamics of guests encapsulated in 1 were also investigated, and here it was found that longer, more prolate-shaped guest molecules tumble more slowly in the host cavity than larger but more spherical guest molecules. The prolate guests reduce the host symmetry from T to C(1) in solution at low temperatures, and the distortion of the host framework that is in part responsible for this symmetry reduction is observed directly in the solid state. Analysis of guest motional dynamics is a powerful method for interrogating host structure and fundamental host-guest interactions.  相似文献

Organic dyes usually exhibit enhanced photostability when trapped inside sol-gel silicates. The enhanced photostability is attributed to the reduction of intramolecular motions that facilitate photodegradation. We report the simultaneous detection of mobility and photostability of sol-gel encapsulated didodecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine (DiI) using single molecule spectroscopy. Fluorescence from DiI was resolved into parallel and perpendicular polarization components and separately detected. On the basis of the calculated fluorescence polarization, single DiI molecules were classified into "tumbling" and "fixed". Out of 212 molecules investigated, 52% were found to be fixed. For the first time, the mobility of a guest molecule in sol-gel silicate can be directly correlated with its own photostability. Both tumbling and fixed molecules have shown to exhibit nonuniform photostability, indicative of the very heterogeneous guest-host interactions within each subgroup. The survival lifetimes for the majority of the tumbling and fixed molecules were found to be 4.3 and 13.1 s, respectively, demonstrating unequivocally that fixed molecules exhibit a higher photostability than tumbling molecules. These results are in accordance with a recent study on rhodamine B encapsulated in dried sol-gel silicates.  相似文献

Infrared fundamental intensities calculated by the quantum theory of atoms in molecules/charge-charge flux-dipole flux (QTAIM/CCFDF) method have been partitioned into charge, charge flux, and dipole flux contributions as well as their charge-charge flux, charge-dipole flux, and charge flux-dipole flux interaction contributions. The interaction contributions can be positive or negative and do not depend on molecular orientations in coordinate systems or normal coordinate phase definitions, as do CCFDF dipole moment derivative contributions. If interactions are positive, their corresponding dipole moment derivative contributions have the same polarity reinforcing the total intensity estimates whereas negative contributions indicate opposite polarities and lower CCFDF intensities. Intensity partitioning is carried out for the normal coordinates of acetylene, ethylene, ethane, all the chlorofluoromethanes, the X(2)CY (X = F, Cl; Y = O, S) molecules, the difluoro- and dichloroethylenes and BF(3). QTAIM/CCFDF calculated intensities with optimized quantum levels agree within 11.3 km mol(-1) of the experimental values. The CH stretching and in-plane bending vibrations are characterized by significant charge flux, dipole flux, and charge flux-dipole flux interaction contributions with the negative interaction tending to cancel the individual contributions resulting in vary small intensity values. CF stretching and bending vibrations have large charge, charge-charge flux, and charge-dipole flux contributions for which the two interaction contributions tend to cancel one another. The experimental CF stretching intensities can be estimated to within 31.7 km mol(-1) or 16.3% by a sum of these three contributions. However, the charge contribution alone is not successful at quantitatively estimating these CF intensities. Although the CCl stretching vibrations have significant charge-charge flux and charge-dipole flux contributions, like those of the CF stretches, both of these interaction contributions have opposite signs for these two types of vibrations.  相似文献

We employed negatively charged fluorescein (FL), positively charged rhodamine 6G (R6G), and neutral Nile Red (NR) as molecular probes to investigate the influence of Coulombic interaction on their deposition into and rotational mobility inside polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) films. The entrapment efficiency of the dyes reveals that while Coulombic repulsion has little effect on dye deposition, Coulombic attraction can dramatically enhance the loading efficiency of dyes into a PEM film. By monitoring the emission polarization of single dye molecules in polyethylenimine (PEI) films, the percentages of mobile R6G, NR, and FL were determined to be 87 +/- 4%, 76 +/- 5%, and 68 +/- 3%, respectively. These mobility distributions suggest that cationic R6G enjoys the highest degree of rotational freedom, whereas anionic FL shows the least mobility because of Coulombic attraction toward cationic PEI. Regardless of charges, this high percentage of mobile molecules is in stark contrast to the 5-40% probe mobility reported from spun-cast polymer films, indicating that our PEI films contain more free volume and display richer polymer dynamics. These observations demonstrate the potential of using isolated fluorescent probes to interrogate the internal structure of a PEM film at a microscopic level.  相似文献

A bio‐inspired design of using metal–organic framework (MOF) microcrystals with well‐defined multi‐shelled hollow structures was used as a matrix to host multiple guests including molecules and nanoparticles at separated locations to form a hierarchical material, mimicking biological structures. The interactions such as energy transfer (ET) between different guests are regulated by precisely fixing them in the MOF shells or encapsulating them in the cavities between the MOF shells. The proof‐of‐concept design is demonstrated by hosting chromophore molecules including rhodamine 6G (R6G) and 7‐amino‐4‐(trifluoromethyl)coumarin (C‐151), as well as metal nanoparticles (Pd NPs) into the multi‐shelled hollow zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (ZIF‐8). We could selectively establish or diminish the guest‐to‐framework and guest‐to‐guest ET. This work provides a platform to construct complex multifunctional materials, especially those need precise separation control of multi‐components.  相似文献

To develop the solid-state laser oscillator based on laser dye compounds, the incorporation of rhodamine 6G (R6G, a laser dye) in cetyltrimethylammonium (CTA+) cationic surfactant/montmorillonite clay hybrid (HpC) thin solid films was investigated. The R6G/HpC samples were prepared by immersing the HpC films into a R6G aqueous solution with various concentration. X-ray diffraction patterns of the films of HpC, measured before and after the intercalation of R6G, proved the coexistence of both the dye and surfactant in clay interlayer spaces. All prepared thin films exhibited luminescence. It indicates that CTA+ molecules play a role as a partial suppressor of the aggregation of R6G molecules which prevents fluorescence. Moreover, the luminescence property of the present thin films was observed to be dependent on the co-intercalated degree of R6G molecules, indicating that the R6G intercalating in HpC interlayer space molecules exist as two or more luminescence species in the clay interlayer space.  相似文献

A great deal of interest has recently focused on host–guest systems consisting of one‐dimensional collinear arrays of conjugated molecules encapsulated in the channels of organic or inorganic matrices. Such architectures allow for controlled charge and energy migration processes between the interacting guest molecules and are thus attractive in the field of organic electronics. In this context, we characterize here at a quantum‐chemical level the molecular parameters governing charge transport in the hopping regime in 1D arrays built with different types of molecules. We investigate the influence of several parameters (such as the symmetry of the molecule, the presence of terminal substituents, and the molecular size) and define on that basis the molecular features required to maximize the charge carrier mobility within the channels. In particular, we demonstrate that a strong localization of the molecular orbitals in push–pull compounds is generally detrimental to the charge transport properties.  相似文献

The absorption of dyes within hydrogen-bonded and electrostatically assembled multilayers and subsequent release of the dyes from the films were studied in situ using FTIR-ATR. Multilayers were composed of poly(methacrylic acid), PMAA, and poly(ethylene oxide), PEO (hydrogen-bonded multilayers), or of PMAA and 22% quarternized copolymer of N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridium bromide and 4-vinylpyridine, Q22 (electrostatically stabilized multilayers). After multilayer deposition, the solution pH was changed to produce excess charge within the films. Dyes with charge opposite to the excess charge of the film (Rhodamine 6G for hydrogen-bonded films or Bromophenol Blue for electrostatically assembled multilayers) were then allowed to absorb within multilayers. In both systems, the dyes were uniformly included within the films. The top layers largely affected the loading capacity of the multilayers, suggesting weaker binding of the dyes with the top layers. Dye release into a 0.01 M phosphate buffer was significantly smaller as compared to release in the presence of 0.05-0.5 mg/mL solutions of adsorbing polymers whose charge was the same as the excess charge within the films. We found that with the PMAA/PEO films, dye release did not depend on the concentration of polymer in solution, but was largely controlled by the amount of charge accumulated within the adsorbing polymer layer on the top of the film. For electrostatically stabilized PMAA/Q22 systems, dye release increased with increasing concentration of Q22 in solution, suggesting a significant contribution of the competition of solution species in the release mechanism. Our findings contribute to the understanding of interactions of small molecules with polymer multilayers and might have ramifications for novel applications of multilayer films as new materials for the controlled delivery of chemicals.  相似文献

TiO(2) and SiO(2) porous thin films consisting of tilted nanocolumns prepared by glancing angle evaporation (GLAD) have been infiltrated with guest derivatives belonging to the family of perchlorinated trityl radicals, novel guest molecules presenting an open-shell electronic configuration associated with paramagnetism, fluorescence, and electroactivity. The main driving forces for infiltration from aqueous solutions of the carboxylate-substituted radical derivatives are the electrostatic interactions between their negative charge and the net positive charges induced on the film pores. Positive charges on the internal surface of the films were induced by either adjusting the radical solution pH at values lower than the point of zero charge (PZC) of the oxide or passivating the nanocolumns oxide surface with a positively charged aminosilane. The infiltrated composite thin films are robust and easy to handle thanks to the physical protection exerted by the film columns. They also keep the multifunctionality of the used guests, as confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), UV-vis spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. To prove the electroactivity of the infiltrated porous films, a porous TiO(2) host layer was supported onto conductive indium tin oxide (ITO). By application of an appropriate redox potential, the guest radical molecules have been reversibly switched from their open-shell electronic configuration to their diamagnetic state and hence changed their optical properties. On the basis of these results, it is herein proposed that the appropriate surface functionalization of the pore internal surface of GLAD thin films can be used to prepare novel radical-oxide composite thin films usable for the development of robust switchable electrically driven photonic and magnetic devices.  相似文献

Fabrication of complex molecular films of organic materials is one of the most important issues in modern nanoscience and nanotechnology. Soft materials with flexible properties have been given much attention and can be obtained through bottom up processing from functional molecules, where self-assembly based on supramolecular chemistry and designed assembly have become crucial processes and technologies. In this work, we report the successful incorporation of cationic laser dye rhodamine 6G abbreviated as R6G into the pre-assembled polyelectrolyte/surfactant complex film onto quartz substrate by electrostatic adsorption technique. Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) was used as polycation and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) was used as anionic surfactant. UV-Vis absorption spec-troscopic characterization reveals the formation of only H-type aggregates of R6G in their aqueous solution and both H- and J-type aggregates in PAH/SDS/R6G complex layer-by-layber films as well as the adsorption kinetics of R6G onto the complex films. The ratio of the absorbance intensity of two aggregated bands in PAH/SDS/R6G complex films is merely independent of the concentration range of the SDS solution used to fabricate PAH/SDS com-plex self-assembled films. Atomic force microscopy reveals the formation of R6G aggregates in PAH/SDS/R6G complex films.  相似文献

We report on the ultrafast photoinduced charge separation processes in varying compositions of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) blended with the electron acceptor [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). Through the use of time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy, the time- and frequency-dependent complex photoconductivity is measured for samples with PCBM weight fractions (WPCBM) of 0, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.8. By analysis of the frequency-dependent complex conductivity, both the charge carrier yield and the average charge carrier mobility have been determined analytically and indicate a short (<0.2 nm) carrier mean free path and a suppressed long-range transport that is characteristic of carrier localization. Studies on pure films of P3HT demonstrate that charge carrier generation is an intrinsic feature of the polymer that occurs on the time scale of the excitation light, and this is attributed to the dissociation of bound polaron pairs that reside on adjacent polymer chains due to interchain charge transfer. Both interchain and interfacial charge transfer contribute to the measured photoconductivity from the blended samples; interfacial charge transfer increases as a function of increasing PCBM. The addition of PCBM to the polymer films surprisingly does not dramatically increase the production of charge carriers within the first 2 ps. However, charge carriers in the 0.2 and 0.5 blended films survive to much longer times than those in the P3HT and 0.8 films.  相似文献

Host–guest interactions of a molecular tweezer complex 1 with various planar organic molecules including polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were investigated by 1D and 2D 1H NMR spectroscopy, UV/Vis absorption and emission titration studies. 2D and DOSY NMR spectroscopies support the sandwiched binding mode based on 1:1 host–guest interactions. The binding constants (KS) of complex 1 for various PAHs were determined by NMR titration studies and the values were found to span up to an order of 104 M ?1 for coronene to no observable interaction for benzene, indicating that the π‐surface area is important for such host–guest interactions. The substituent effect on the host–guest interaction based on the guest series of 9‐substituted anthracenes was also studied. In general, a stronger interaction was observed for the anthracene guest with electron‐donating groups, although steric and π‐conjugation factors cannot be completely excluded. The photophysical responses of complex 1 upon addition of various PAHs were measured by UV/Vis and emission titration studies. The UV/Vis absorption spectra were found to show a drop in absorbance of the metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (MLCT) and ligand‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (LLCT) admixture band upon addition of various guest molecules to 1 , whereas the emission behavior was found to change differently depending on the guest molecules, showing emission enhancement and/or quenching. It was found that emission quenching occurred either via energy transfer or electron transfer pathway or both, while emission enhancement was caused by the increase in rigidity of complex 1 as a result of host–guest interaction.  相似文献

Physical and chemical strategies that place designed molecules in spatially separated regions of surfactant-templated mesostructured silicate thin films are used to prepare films containing rhodamine 6G (R6G), lanthanide complexes, and both simultaneously. Fluorescence and photoexcitation spectra of R6G in amorphous and structured thin films show that it is located inside the surfactant micelles of structured thin films. A silylated ligand that binds lanthanides condenses to form part of the silica framework and causes the lanthanide to localize in the silica. Luminescence and photoexcitation spectra show that energy transfer from the metal complex to R6G occurs in the films. R6G quenches Tb emission in a concentration-dependent manner. Energy transfer efficiency is calculated using the Tb luminescence lifetime, and this quantity is used to calculate the distance between Tb and R6G with the aid of Forster theory.  相似文献

Inclusion complexes of cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) and various aromatic molecules in their neutral and oxidized form were studied at the LMP2/6‐311+G**//BHandHLYP/6‐31G* level of theory, which represents the highest level theoretical study to date for these complexes. The results show that it is dispersion interaction that contributes most to the binding energy. One electron oxidation of a guest molecule leads to complete dissociation of inclusion complex generating strong repulsion potential between guest and host molecules. Electrostatic interactions also can play an important role, provided the guest molecule has a dipole moment; however, dispersion interactions always dominate in binding energy. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The absorption and fluorescence properties of rhodamine 6G (R6G) in organophilic laponite (Lap) clay films are studied. For this purpose, organo-Lap clays are synthesized by the incorporation of dodecyltrimethylammonium (C12TMA) as surfactant into the interlayer space of Lap clays. Two organo-Lap clays are prepared: one with moderate surfactant content (around 70% of the total cation-exchange capacity (CEC) of the clay) and a second with a high surfactant loading (about 130% CEC). Supported films are elaborated by the spin-coating technique and characterized by several techniques such as atomic force microscopy, elemental CHN analysis, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry. IR spectroscopy reveals that the intercalation of R6G into organo-Lap films takes place at the detriment of the adsorbed C12TMA molecules. The photophysical properties of R6G monomers in the interlayer space of Lap films are improved by the presence of surfactant molecules. Moreover, organophilic environments can reduce the dye aggregation and favor the formation of fluorescent J-type aggregates, enhancing the fluorescence ability of dye/clay films with high dye contents. This improvement depends on the surfactant content.  相似文献

We report on the finding that absorption of citrate-stabilized Au nanoparticles into microgel/polyelectrolye multilayer thin films results in an increase in the resistance of those films to strain-induced damage in the dry state while maintaining the remarkable self-healing properties of the films following rehydration. Films were fabricated atop elastomeric poly(dimethylsiloxane) substrates by a centrifuge-assisted layer-by-layer technique using anionic hydrogel microparticles (microgels) and cationic linear polymers as the building blocks. Gold nanoparticles were embedded into swollen hydrogel films by a simple immersion method wherein the Coulombic interactions between the anionic Au particles and the polycation are likely important. After drying, the mechanical properties of films were inferred from the observation of cracks/wrinkles formed during stretching of the elastomeric substrate. As-prepared (no Au) hydrogel films revealed the presence of damage perpendicular to the stretching direction (10% strain), as observed previously. However, Au nanoparticle-doped films displayed significantly reduced damage under identical stretching conditions while forming cracks and wrinkles under higher strains (20?C30%). Importantly, all films displayed excellent self-healing behavior upon rehydration regardless of Au content, suggesting that the nanoparticle toughening effect does not interfere with the film mobility required to achieve autonomic repair.  相似文献

The inclusion process involving β-cyclodextrin with octopamine (OA) was investigated by using PM6, HF/3-21G*, B3LYP/6-31G (d), WB97XD/6-31G (d) methods and several combination of ONIOM2 hybrid calculations. The obtained results clearly indicate the orientation in which the guest molecule penetrates into the hydrophobic cavity of β-CD with the aromatic ring is energetically preferred. The structures show the presence of several intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions that were studied on the basis of natural bonding orbital (NBO) analysis, employed to quantify donor–acceptor interactions between host and guest molecules. A study of these complexes in solution was carried out using the CPCM model to examine the influence of solvation on the stability of the octopamine/β-CD complex.  相似文献

Experimental, analytical, and modeling techniques employed in this study elucidate interactions between adsorbate molecules and the interior surfaces of the porous host faujasite. The vibrational spectroscopies of guest and host offer opportunities to locate the guest site in the host. We present Fourier transform (FT) infrared (IR) studies of sodium-X (NaX) faujasite supercage-included tert-butyl halides, (CH(3))(3)C-X (X=Cl, Br, I) in comparison with the adsorbate molecular gas-phase and host solid-state spectra at 295 K. Four observations of guest (nu(5,) nu(6), nu(7), and {nu(3), nu(16), nu(17)}) vibrational mode changes, three of them concomitant with host mode changes, together with modeling studies, point to a particular preferred siting of the guest molecules at host hexagonal prisms (D6R). The siting involved simultaneous interactions of the host with methyl group axial protons and the halide atom. All three methyl group axial protons interact preferentially with a single D6R O1 oxygen atom via C-H...O bonding. The halide atom also interacts with a site III' Na cation. The cation, in turn, is coordinated by three O atoms (two O1 and an O4). Two of these O atoms (O1) bridge the double six-rings that form the hexagonal prism part of the NaX substructure. O4 connects the two D6R units.  相似文献

The photoluminescence response of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) laser dye intercalated into solid thin films of Laponite (Lap) clay is studied as a function of dye loading. Fluorescence spectroscopy (steady-state and time-resolved techniques) was used to characterize the R6G species adsorbed into the solid films.
