Formation of cathode spots and current density distribution in cathode spots of short-time high-intensity electric discharge
The connection between the current density distribution in a spot and the vapour jets was found for a short-time high-intensity electric discharge by studying the structure of partial cathode traces and measuring the current density on the cathode. The variation of the current density on the spot with the current gradient was also found and the etching of the cathode surface with ionic bombardment at a pressure of 760 mm Hg was observed.

We consider the survival of a random walker in a finite lattice with periodic boundary conditions. The initial position of the random walker is uniformly distributed on the lattice with respect to the trap. We show that the survival of a random walker, U n>, can be exactly related to the expected number of distinct sites visted on a trap-free lattice by U n=1–S n/N D (*) whereN D is the number of lattice points inD dimensions. We then analyze the behavior of Sn in any number of dimensions by using Tauberian methods. We find that at sufficiently long times S n decays exponentially withn in all numbers of dimensions. InD = 1 and 2 dimensions there is an intermediate behavior which can be calculated and is valid forN 2N 1 whenD = 1 andN lnN n 1 whenD = 2. No such crossover exists when Z3. The form of (*) suggests that the single trap approximation is indeed a valid low-concentration limit for survival on an infinite lattice with a finite concentration of traps.  相似文献

Experimental data on 0 meson polarization in p reaction at 5 GeV/c are presented. Change in 0 meson polarization for mesons produced at smallP 2 and atP 2 0·3 or produced in backward direction in CMS is demonstrated. Natural explanation of these phenomena is one pion exchange mechanism and mechanism of quark-antiquark annihilation as observed for 0 meson production in¯pp reactions.The authors are indebted to Ján Piút, Richard Lednický, V. The diluted-field Ising model, a random nonnegative field ferromagnetic model, is shown to have a unique Gibbs measure with probability I when the field mean is positive. Our methods involve comparisons with ordinary uniform field Ising models. They yield as a corollary a way of obtaining spontaneous magnetization through the application of a vanishing random magnetic field. The correlation lengths of this model defined as (lim n-(1/n) log 0; n)-1, wheren is the site on the first coordinate axis at distancen from the origin and 0; n is the origin ton two-point truncated correlation function, is non-random. We derive an upper bound for it in terms of the correlation length of an ordinary nonrandom model with uniform field related to the field distribution of the diluted model.  相似文献

We give a simplified construction of twist eating configurations, based on a theorem due to Frobenius. These configurations are defined through the equation:U U U + U + =exp(2in /N) withU SU(N), =1 tod andn an antisymmetric matrix with integer entries. In the (Twisted)-Eguchi-Kawai model they yield extrema some of which survive forN. Comparison is made with the Monte Carlo data of the internal energy in the small coupling region.  相似文献

We consider the scattering problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in 1+1 dimensions: where = /x,R{0},R,p>3. Laser damage in silicon photodiodes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Thermal damage of silicon photodiodes exposed to intense optical radiation is investigated. Damage thresholds of Si photodiodes irradiated by 1.06m laser pulses are reported for values of irradiation time,, ranging from 10–8 to 1s. Threshold laser irradiation produces visible microscopic damage and a permanent degradation in photoresponse. The loss of responsivity is associated with degradation of the detector diode characteristics due to laser-induced heating. The time and wavelength dependence agree with the predictions of a thermal model which treats a semi-infinite material irradiated by a Gaussian laser beam. The energy density thresholds are independent of for short irradiation times and asymptotically approach a limiting behaviour which increases as for long times. They are given by the empirical relationE 0=65[1+217/tan–1(258)1/2] J cm–2 for 1.06m radiation. The thresholds at short irradiation times of detectors damaged by 1.06m radiation are about 25 times larger than those of detectors exposed to 0.6943m radiation. The greater susceptibility at 0.6943m is attributed to a larger optical absorption coefficient.  相似文献

Let {X t:0} denote random walk in the random waiting time model, i.e., simple random walk with jump ratew –1(X t), where {w(x):xd} is an i.i.d. random field. We show that (under some mild conditions) theintermediate scattering function F(q,t)=E 0 (qd) is completely monotonic int (E 0 denotes double expectation w.r.t. walk and field). We also show that thedynamic structure factor S(q, w)=2 0 cos(t)F(q, t) exists for 0 and is strictly positive. Ind=1, 2 it diverges as 1/||1/2, resp. –ln(||), in the limit 0; ind3 its limit value is strictly larger than expected from hydrodynamics. This and further results support the conclusion that the hydrodynamic region is limited to smallq and small such that ||D |q|2, whereD is the diffusion constant.  相似文献

In terms of the Dirac operator P, we introduce on any field a first-order operator D and show that the operator (–) on the spinors (=(n/4(n–1))R; dim W=n) is positive. By means of a universal formula, we show that, on a compact spin manifold of dimension 3, the Hijazi inequality [8] holds for every spinor field such that (P, P) = 2(, ) (=const.). In the limiting case, the manifold admits a Killing spinor which can be evaluated in terms of . Different properties of spin manifolds admitting Killing spinors are proved. It is shown that according to the Watanabe theory of weak interactions a resonant scattering of electrons by protons must take place. The resonant energy depends on the massm B of the intermediate boson. Form B=2300m e this energy is about 213 MeV in the centre of the mass system (c. m. s.). The energy width at resonance is 1·4 MeV.

In mathematical approaches to elementary particle theory, the equation [2 - 2/t2]=m2 ;+g 3 has been of interest [1,2]; it describes a quartically self-coupled neutral scalar meson field. An experimental investigation is made into the domain structure of cobalt whiskers by the colloid technique. A new type of domain structure was found; the width of the domains is studied as a function of the thickness of the whisker. This dependence follows a two-thirds power law and does not agree with existing theories which predict a half power law.

A lepton octet is constructed by analogy with the baryon octet by the substitution p+N 1e+,+1 é+,-2-, - N 2-, where 1, 2,N 1,N 2 are arbitrary constants. The neutral components are replaced by a linear sum of the electron and muon neutrinos with arbitrary coefficients. The constants are determined from the system of general conditions (normalization, absence of crossed terms of the type ( etc.). As a result, the lepton octet is determined to within a single constant, and this is shown to be identical with the Cabibbo angle. Calculations are also made of the weak decays of baryons of the octet in the case of both charged and neutral currents. In the case of charged currents, the results agree with Cabibbo's theory. Calculations are also made of the lepton-lepton weak interactions and the ratios of the corresponding constants are determined. We simulate the classical diffusion of a particle of massM in an infinite one-dimensional system of hard point particles of massm in equilibrium. Each computer run corresponds to about 108 collisions of the diffusive particle. We find that (t) 1/t fort large enough, and a crossover from an M m regime where=2 to=3 forM=m. The diffusion constant has a sharp maximum atM=m. We study moments x(t)2 and x(t)4, and examine the behavior ofq 2 (t)=x(t)4/3x(t)22. We find thatq(t)1 (consistent with a normal distribution) in theM limit (for all timest) and in the t limit for allM.
