The effective length method [1, 2] has been used to make systematic calculations of the heat transfer for laminar and turbulent boundary layers on slender blunt-nosed cones at small angles of attack ( + 5° in a separationless hypersonic air stream dissociating in equilibrium (half-angles of the cones 0 20°, angles of attack 0 15°, Mach numbers 5 M 25). The parameters of the gas at the outer edge of the boundary layer were taken equal to the inviscid parameters on the surface of the cones. Shear softening and thixotropic properties of wheat flour doughs are demonstrated in dynamic testing with a constant stress rheometer. This behaviour appears beyond the strictly linear domain (strain amplitude 0 0.2%),G,G and |*| decreasing with 0, the strain response to a sine stress wave yet retaining a sinusoidal shape. It is also shown thatG recovers progressively in function of rest time. In this domain, as well as in the strictly linear domain, the Cox-Merz rule did not apply but() and | *())| may be superimposed by using a shift factor, its value decreasing in the former domain when 0 increases. Beyond a strain amplitude of about 10–20%, the strain response is progressively distorted and the shear softening effects become irreversible following rest.  相似文献

Dynamic response of foil strain gages is investigated in the ranges of up to approximately 300 kHz in frequency, 2000 in strain and 750 s–1 in strain rate. Impulsive input is applied to the gages using elastic wave pulses in a circular bar. The input is determined by measuring the velocity of the bar end with a laser interferometer. It was confirmed that deviations from the static gage factors do not exceed–5 percent within the frequency range up to 45 kHz, 110 kHz and more than 290 kHz for 20-mm, 10-mm and 3-mm gages, respectively, and that the gage length is the dominant factor in the gages' frequency characteristics. The creep and longterm strength of structural elements under temperatures much higher than operational temperatures are studied. The actual nonuniform stress–strain state is reduced to a fictitious uniform state by averaging the specific dissipated power over the volume of the body. This allows one to estimate the intensity of creep and longterm strength of structural elements in terms of volumeaveraged energy parameters by using methods of ideal plasticity and considering statically possible stress fields and kinematically possible velocity and strain rate fields.  相似文献

A reversible strain gage was developed for accurately measuring thermal strains, especially for use on large structures where strain gages cannot be welded. These strain gages can be peeled after taking required apparentstrain measurements in a furnace and can be attached reverse-side-up at the points of interest on a test structure. After many trials, a polyimide strain gage was developed that is the same on both the base side and the cover side. The thermal characteristics of the reversible strain gage—repeatability of apparent strain, gage-factor change, creep, drift and the output for a given mechanical strain—were investigated. The repeatability of apparent strains for 100 reversible gages was within 60 microstrain of difference at 250°C. The output of reversible gages for mechanical strain, after 2 to 3 heat cycles which were peeled and cemented in the reverse-side-up position, almost coincided with those of virgin reversible gages.Paper was presented at Fourth SESA International Congress on Experimental Mechanics held in Boston, MA on May 25–30, 1980  相似文献

A solution is obtained for the relationship between load, displacement and inner contact radius for an axisymmetric, spherically concave, rigid punch, indenting an elastic half-space. Analytic approximations are developed for the limiting cases in which the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the annular contact region is respectively small and close to unity. Properties of elastic states in which the strain is periodic in an arbitrary number of directions are investigated. It is shown that, even though the corresponding displacements might not, in a non-trivial sense, be periodic, they do satisfy a semi-periodicity condition. Other general results, including a version of Betti's reciprocal theorem and a theorem of work and energy are derived and discussed. Problems involving periodicity in a maximal number of directions are examined in greater detail. Additional restrictions on the displacement corresponding to maximally periodic strains are derived and the uniqueness and periodicity of solutions to maximally periodic and slightly maximally periodic boundary value problems are discussed.  相似文献

The work described in this paper establishes the accuracy with which the power number can be measured within a mixing vessel and presents measurements for five impellers (Rushton, bucket, 45°-pitched blade, 60°-pitched blade and hyperboloid) as a function of rotational speed. The technique uses strain gauges and the telemetric transmission of the strain and is, therefore, more accurate than methods which involve mechanical determination of torque and that allows power measurements to be carried out in relatively small and more cost-effective models of mixing vessels. In the cases where previous data exists the results of this study compare well. This work provides new data for the bucket, 45°-pitched blade and hyperboloid (low Reynolds numbers) impellers and represented a systematic study for all five impellers with one measurement system.The authors would like to acknowledge the financial support of the EPSRC during the course of this work.  相似文献

This paper describes the development and evaluation of temperature-compensated resistance strain gages for use to 800°C. These gages included single-element gages and double-element half-bridge gages. The filament of single-element gages was fabricated from specially developed Fe–Cr–Al–V–Ti–Y alloy wire. When bonded to high-temperature Ni-based alloy GH39 after stabilization at 800°C for one hour, the apparent strain from room temperature to 800°C was less than 2000 m/m. Double-element gages were fabricated from Pt–W–Re–Ni–Cr–Y alloy wire (active grid) and Pt–Ir alloy wire (compensating grid). When bonded to different high-temperature alloy specimens and stabilized, and when ballast resistance in series with the compensating grid adjusted suitably, the gages' apparent strains from room temperature to 800°C were less than 2400 m/m.Effects of preoxidization of Fe–Cr–Al wire on the characteristics of the single-element gages are described.  相似文献

The elastoplastic strain of metals being formed when they melt under the effect of a point heat source with a pulse duration greater than 10–6 sec is considered in this paper. The time development of the plastic strain and pressure domains in the melt is investigated. It is shown that two plastic strain domains occur during the interaction under consideration: a relatively broad domain of mechanical influence and a narrow domain of thermal influence. The stress-strain distributions as well as the hydrostatic pressure in the fluid are determined by a quasistationary temperature distribution starting with times corresponding to half (of the quasistationary) the value of the melt radius X 0.5. It is shown that the dimensions of the weak and strong plastic strain domains formed by heat and acoustic waves grow continuously to the quasistationary values, while the hydrostatic pressure in the fluid reaches the maximum value for X 0.3...0.4. The ratio between the radii of the plastic strain zones and of the liquid bath for a quasistationary temperature distribution in the first domain lies within the range 10–50, and does not exceed 1.7 for Cu, Ni, and Fe in the second. The anomalous nature of the development of the strong plastic strain domain in Al, because of migration of the metal grain boundaries to result in collapse of the domain for the values X 0.5 accompanied by a jumplike diminution in the hydrostatic pressure in the fluid, is noted.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 3, pp. 129–140, May–June, 1976.  相似文献

The detailed analysis of the dynamical process of coin tossing is made. Through calculations, it is illustrated how and why the result is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. It is also shown that, as the initial height of the mass center of the coin increases, the final configuration, i.e. head or tail, becomes more and more sensitive to the initial parameters (the initial velocity angular velocity, and the initial orientation), the coefficient of the air drag, and the energy absorption factor of the surface on which the coin bounces. If we keep the head upward initially but allow a small range for the change of some other initial parameters, the frequency that the final configuration is head, would be 1 if the initial height h of the mass center is sufficiently small, and would be clo to 1/2 if h is sufficiently large. An interesting question is how this frequency changes continuously from 1 to 1/2 as h increases. Detailed calculations show that such a transition is very similar to the transition from laminar to turbulent flows. A basic difference between the transition stage and the completely random stage is indicated: In the completely random stage, the deterministic process of the individual case is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters, out the statistical properties of the ensemble are insensitive to the small changes of the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. On the contrary, in the transition stage, both the deterministic process of the individual case and the statistical properties of the ensemble are sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. The mechanism for this feature of the transition stage is the existence of the long-train structure in the parameter space. The illuminations of this analysis on some other random phenomena are discussed.  相似文献

In a previous derivation of Darcy's law, the closure problem was presented in terms of an integro-differential equation for a second-order tensor. In this paper, we show that the closure problem can be transformed to a set of Stokes-like equations and we compare solutions of these equations with experimental data. In this paper, we show that the maximum principle holds for quasilinear elliptic equations with quadratic growth under general structure conditions.Two typical particular cases of our results are the following. On one hand, we prove that the equation (1) {ie77-01} where {ie77-02} and {ie77-03} satisfies the maximum principle for solutions in H 1()L(), i.e., that two solutions u 1, u 2H1() L() of (1) such that u 1u2 on , satisfy u 1u2 in . This implies in particular the uniqueness of the solution of (1) in H 0 1 ()L().On the other hand, we prove that the equation (2) {ie77-04} where fH–1() and g(u)>0, g(0)=0, satisfies the maximum principle for solutions uH1() such that g(u)¦Du|{2L1(). This paper documents an experimental study that was conducted to demonstrate the sensitivity of the shear gage to the presence of normal strains. The shear gage is a specially designed strain gage rosette that measures the average shear strain in the test section of notched specimens such as the losipescu, Arcan and compact shear specimens. These specimens can have complicated stress states with high shear and normal strain gradients. To evaluate the sensitivity of the shear gage to normal strains, shear gages were tested on an Arcan specimen. The Arcan specimen is a notched specimen that can be loaded in pure shear (90 deg), pure tension (0 deg) and at intermediate 15- deg increments. The shear modulus for an aluminum specimen was determined at each of these loading angles. It was found that the gages display nearly zero sensitivity to normal strains ( x, y). Moiré interferometry was used to document the shear and normal strain distributions in the test section and to provide an independent method for determining the average shear strain. These results reinforce the robust nature of testing with the shear gage.  相似文献

Mixed model fatigue crack propagation is analyzed in this paper, using a centre cracked plate geometry, loaded under un-iaxial cyclic tension. Based on maximum principal stress criterion, a modified Paris expression of fatigue crack growth rate is derived in terms of ΔK and crack angle βα for an inclined crack. It is also shown that it is more convenient to express the Paris equation by means of crack length projected on the x -axis, αx rather than the actual length, α itself. The crack trajectory due to cyclic loading is predicted, β is varied from 29° to 90°. Experimental data on Type L3 aluminium agree fairly well with predicted values when βα exceeds 30°.  相似文献

The influence of ultrasoundabsorbing coatings on stability of hypersonic boundary layers is considered. Two types of coatings were used in experiments: feltmetal with a random porous microstructure and a sheet perforated by blind cylindrical microchannels. The experiments were performed in a wind tunnel at a Mach number M = 5.95 on sharp cones with a 7° apex halfangle. Evolution of natural disturbances and artificially induced wave packets in the boundary layer was studied with the help of hotwire anemometry. Spatial characteristics of artificial disturbances were obtained. It is demonstrated that such coatings exert a stabilizing effect on secondmode disturbances.  相似文献

The results of laboratory observations of the deformation of deep water gravity waves leading to wave breaking are reported. The specially developed visualization technique which was used is described. A preliminary analysis of the results has led to similar conclusions than recently developed theories. The purpose of this study is the construction of interpolation formulas for the dependence of Maxwell viscosity, a quantity which is the reciprocal of shear-strain relaxation time , on shear-strain intensity and temperature for several metals: iron, aluminum, copper, and lead. The deformation of particle image patterns due to velocity gradients causes errors of velocity measurements and false velocity detections in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). A novel technique to overcome those limitations inherent in the conventional PIV by correcting the particle image pattern according to the local velocity gradients in two dimensional flows, i.e. u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y, is proposed and successfully applied to a water flow downstream of a backward facing step.  相似文献

The propagation and reflection of one-dimensional plane unsteady waves and pulses in a mixture of a fluid with two-phase bubbles containing evaporating drops is investigated. A significant effect of unsteady evaporation of the drops in the zone ahead of the shock wave on the wave propagation is demonstrated. The evaporation of the drops results in a pressure increase ahead of the wave and the shock wave as it were climbs to increasing pressure level. In contrast to bubbly fluids with single-phase bubbles, in a fluid with two-phase bubbles, at a fixed phase volume fraction, a decrease in bubble size results in an increase rather than a decrease of the oscillation amplitude. The wave reflection from a solid wall is essentially nonlinear and the maximum pressure attained at the wall is several times greater than the incident-wave intensity.  相似文献
