Let S be a Dirichlet form in L2(Ω; m), where Ω is an open subset of Rn, n ? 2, and m a Radon measure on Ω; for each integer k with 1 ? k < n, let Sk be a Dirichlet form on some k-dimensional submanifold Ωk of Ω. The paper is devoted to the study of the closability of the forms E with domain C0(Ω) and defined by: (?,g)=E(?, g)+ ip=1Eki(?ki, gki) where 1 ? kp < ? < n, and where ?ki, gki denote restrictions of ?, g in C0(Ω) to Ωki. Conditions are given for E to be closable if, for each i = 1,…, p, one has ki = n ? i. Other conditions are given for E to be nonclosable if, for some i, ki < n ? i.  相似文献

In this paper iterative schemes for approximating a solution to a rectangular but consistent linear system Ax = b are studied. Let A?Cm × nr. The splitting A = M ? N is called subproper if R(A) ? R(M) and R(A1) ?R(M1). Consider the iteration xi = M2Nxi?1 + M2b. We characterize the convergence of this scheme to a solution of the linear system. When A?Rm×nr, monotonicity and the concept of subproper regular splitting are used to determine a necessary and a sufficient condition for the scheme to converge to a solution.  相似文献

Let Mm,n(F) denote the space of all mXn matrices over the algebraically closed field F. A subspace of Mm,n(F), all of whose nonzero elements have rank k, is said to be essentially decomposable if there exist nonsingular mXn matrices U and V respectively such that for any element A, UAV has the form
UAV=A1A2A30
where A1 is iX(k–i) for some i?k. Theorem: If K is a space of rank k matrices, then either K is essentially decomposable or dim K?k+1. An example shows that the above bound on non-essentially-decomposable spaces of rank k matrices is sharp whenever n?2k–1.  相似文献

Let A and B be uniformly elliptic operators of orders 2m and 2n, respectively, m > n. We consider the Dirichlet problems for the equations (?2(m ? n)A + B + λ2nI)u? = f and (B + λ2nI)u = f in a bounded domain Ω in Rk with a smooth boundary ?Ω. The estimate ∥ u? ? u ∥L2(Ω) ? C? ¦ λ ¦?2n + 1(1 + ? ¦ λ ¦)?1 ∥ f ∥L2(Ω) is derived. This result extends the results of [7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18]by giving estimates up to the boundary, improving the rate of convergence in ?, using lower norms, and considering operators of higher order with variable coefficients. An application to a parabolic boundary value problem is given.  相似文献

Let Ω = {1, 0} and for each integer n ≥ 1 let Ωn = Ω × Ω × … × Ω (n-tuple) and Ωnk = {(a1, a2, …, an)|(a1, a2, … , an) ? Ωnand Σi=1nai = k} for all k = 0,1,…,n. Let {Ym}m≥1 be a sequence of i.i.d. random variables such that P(Y1 = 0) = P(Y1 = 1) = 12. For each A in Ωn, let TA be the first occurrence time of A with respect to the stochastic process {Ym}m≥1. R. Chen and A.Zame (1979, J. Multivariate Anal. 9, 150–157) prove that if n ≥ 3, then for each element A in Ωn, there is an element B in Ωn such that the probability that TB is less than TA is greater than 12. This result is sharpened as follows: (I) for n ≥ 4 and 1 ≤ kn ? 1, each element A in Ωnk, there is an element B also in Ωnk such that the probability that TB is less than TA is greater than 12; (II) for n ≥ 4 and 1 ≤ kn ? 1, each element A = (a1, a2,…,an) in Ωnk, there is an element C also in Ωnk such that the probability that TA is less than TC is greater than 12 if n ≠ 2m or n = 2m but ai = ai + 1 for some 1 ≤ in?1. These new results provide us with a better and deeper understanding of the fair coin tossing process.  相似文献

Let Ω be a simply connected domain in the complex plane, and A(Ωn), the space of functions which are defined and analytic on Ωn, if K is the operator on elements u(t, a1, …, an) of A(Ωn + 1) defined in terms of the kernels ki(t, s, a1, …, an) in A(Ωn + 2) by Ku = ∑i = 1naitk i(t, s, a1, …, an) u(s, a1, …, an) ds ? A(Ωn + 1) and I is the identity operator on A(Ωn + 1), then the operator I ? K may be factored in the form (I ? K)(M ? W) = (I ? ΠK)(M ? ΠW). Here, W is an operator on A(Ωn + 1) defined in terms of a kernel w(t, s, a1, …, an) in A(Ωn + 2) by Wu = ∝antw(t, s, a1, …, an) u(s, a1, …, an) ds. ΠW is the operator; ΠWu = ∝an ? 1w(t, s, a1, …, an) u(s, a1, …, an) ds. ΠK is the operator; ΠKu = ∑i = 1n ? 1aitki(t, s, a1, …, an) ds + ∝an ? 1tkn(t, s, a1, …, an) u(s, a1, …, an) ds. The operator M is of the form m(t, a1, …, an)I, where m ? A(Ωn + 1) and maps elements of A(Ωn + 1) into itself by multiplication. The function m is uniquely derived from K in the following manner. The operator K defines an operator K1 on functions u in A(Ωn + 2), by K1u = ∑i = 1n ? 1ait ki(t, s, a1, …, an) u(s, a, …, an + 1) ds + ∝an + 1t kn(t, s, a1, …, an) u((s, a1, …, an + 1) ds. A determinant δ(I ? K1) of the operator I ? K1 is defined as an element m1(t, a1, …, an + 1) of A(Ωn + 2). This is mapped into A(Ωn + 1) by setting an + 1 = t to give m(t, a1, …, an). The operator I ? ΠK may be factored in similar fashion, giving rise to a chain factorization of I ? K. In some cases all the matrix kernels ki defining K are separable in the sense that ki(t, s, a1, …, an) = Pi(t, a1, …, an) Qi(s, a1, …, an), where Pi is a 1 × pi matrix and Qi is a pi × 1 matrix, each with elements in A(Ωn + 1), explicit formulas are given for the kernels of the factors W. The various results are stated in a form allowing immediate extension to the vector-matrix case.  相似文献

The following estimate of the pth derivative of a probability density function is examined: Σk = 0Na?khk(x), where hk is the kth Hermite function and a?k = ((?1)pn)Σi = 1nhk(p)(Xi) is calculated from a sequence X1,…, Xn of independent random variables having the common unknown density. If the density has r derivatives the integrated square error converges to zero in the mean and almost completely as rapidly as O(n?α) and O(n?α log n), respectively, where α = 2(r ? p)(2r + 1). Rates for the uniform convergence both in the mean square and almost complete are also given. For any finite interval they are O(n?β) and O(n2log n), respectively, where β = (2(r ? p) ? 1)(2r + 1).  相似文献

If s1(A) ? ? ? sm(A) are the singular values of A ? Mm,n(C), and if 1 ?k ?m ? and p ? 1, then
φp,k(A) = (i=1ksip(A)1p
is a unitarily invariant norm. In this paper a complete determination of the extreme points on the corresponding unit spheres is accomplished in all cases, enabling the isometries with respect to Φp,k to be determined in the case p = 1. This removes the restriction m = n in an earlier paper of the author and Marcus.  相似文献

Let Xn be an irreducible aperiodic recurrent Markov chain with countable state space I and with the mean recurrence times having second moments. There is proved a global central limit theorem for the properly normalized sojourn times. More precisely, if t(n)ink=1i?i(Xk), then the probability measures induced by {t(n)i/√n?√i}i?Ii being the ergotic distribution) on the Hilbert-space of square summable I-sequences converge weakly in this space to a Gaussian measure determined by a certain weak potential operator.  相似文献

For a sequence A = {Ak} of finite subsets of N we introduce: δ(A) = infm?nA(m)2n, d(A) = lim infn→∞ A(n)2n, where A(m) is the number of subsets Ak ? {1, 2, …, m}.The collection of all subsets of {1, …, n} together with the operation a ∪ b, (a ∩ b), (a 1 b = a ∪ b ? a ∩ b) constitutes a finite semi-group N (semi-group N) (group N1). For N, N we prove analogues of the Erdös-Landau theorem: δ(A+B) ? δ(A)(1+(2λ)?1(1?δ(A>))), where B is a base of N of the average order λ. We prove for N, N, N1 analogues of Schnirelmann's theorem (that δ(A) + δ(B) > 1 implies δ(A + B) = 1) and the inequalities λ ? 2h, where h is the order of the base.We introduce the concept of divisibility of subsets: a|b if b is a continuation of a. We prove an analog of the Davenport-Erdös theorem: if d(A) > 0, then there exists an infinite sequence {Akr}, where Akr | Akr+1 for r = 1, 2, …. In Section 6 we consider for N∪, N∩, N1 analogues of Rohrbach inequality: 2n ? g(n) ? 2n, where g(n) = min k over the subsets {a1 < … < ak} ? {0, 1, 2, …, n}, such that every m? {0, 1, 2, …, n} can be expressed as m = ai + aj.Pour une série A = {Ak} de sous-ensembles finis de N on introduit les densités: δ(A) = infm?nA(m)2m, d(A) = lim infn→∞ A(n)2nA(m) est le nombre d'ensembles Ak ? {1, 2, …, m}. < ak} ? {0, 1, 2, …, n} tels que pour tout m? {0, 1, 2, …, n} on a m = ai + aj.  相似文献

For an n × n Hermitean matrix A with eigenvalues λ1, …, λn the eigenvalue-distribution is defined by G(x, A) := 1n · number {λi: λi ? x} for all real x. Let An for n = 1, 2, … be an n × n matrix, whose entries aik are for i, k = 1, …, n independent complex random variables on a probability space (Ω, R, p) with the same distribution Fa. Suppose that all moments E | a | k, k = 1, 2, … are finite, Ea=0 and E | a | 2. Let
M(A)=σ=1s θσPσ(A,A1)
with complex numbers θσ and finite products Pσ of factors A and A1 (= Hermitean conjugate) be a function which assigns to each matrix A an Hermitean matrix M(A). The following limit theorem is proved: There exists a distribution function G0(x) = G1x) + G2(x), where G1 is a step function and G2 is absolutely continuous, such that with probability 1 G(x, M(Ann12)) converges to G0(x) as n → ∞ for all continuity points x of G0. The density g of G2 vanishes outside a finite interval. There are only finitely many jumps of G1. Both, G1 and G2, can explicitly be expressed by means of a certain algebraic function f, which is determined by equations, which can easily be derived from the special form of M(A). This result is analogous to Wigner's semicircle theorem for symmetric random matrices (E. P. Wigner, Random matrices in physics, SIAM Review9 (1967), 1–23). The examples ArA1r, Ar + A1r, ArA1r ± A1rAr, r = 1, 2, …, are discussed in more detail. Some inequalities for random matrices are derived. It turns out that with probability 1 the sharpened form
lim supn→∞i=1ni(n)|2?6An62? 0.8228…
of Schur's inequality for the eigenvalues λi(n) of An holds. Consequently random matrices do not tend to be normal matrices for large n.  相似文献

Let Z(Sn;?(x)) denote the polynomial obtained from the cycle index of the symmetric group Z(Sn) by replacing each variable si by f(x1). Let f(x) have a Taylor series with radius of convergence ? of the form f(x)=xk + ak+1xk+1 + ak+2xk+2+? with every a1?0. Finally, let 0<x<1 and let x??. We prove that
limn→∞Z(Sn;?(x))xkn = Πi=1k(1?xi)?ak+1
This limit is used to estimate the probability (for n and p both large) that a point chosen at random from a random p-point tree has degree n + 1. These limiting probabilities are independent of p and decrease geometrically in n, contrasting with the labeled limiting probabilities of 1n!e.In order to prove the main theorem, an appealing generalization of the principle of inclusion and exclusion is presented.  相似文献

Asymptotic results are obtained for pA(k)(n), the kth difference of the function pA(n) which is the number of partitions of n into integers from A. Under certain restrictions on A it is shown that
PA(k+1)(n)PA(k)(n) = O(n?1/2) (n→ ∫)
thereby verifying for these A a conjecture of Bateman and Erdös.  相似文献

Given a set S of positive integers let ZkS(t) denote the number of k-tuples 〈m1, …, mk〉 for which mi ∈ S ? [1, t] and (m1, …, mk) = 1. Also let PkS(n) denote the probability that k integers, chosen at random from S ? [1, n], are relatively prime. It is shown that if P = {p1, …, pr} is a finite set of primes and S = {m : (m, p1pr) = 1}, then ZkS(t) = (td(S))k Πν?P(1 ? 1pk) + O(tk?1) if k ≥ 3 and Z2S(t) = (td(S))2 Πp?P(1 ? 1p2) + O(t log t) where d(S) denotes the natural density of S. From this result it follows immediately that PkS(n) → Πp?P(1 ? 1pk) = (ζ(k))?1 Πp∈P(1 ? 1pk)?1 as n → ∞. This result generalizes an earlier result of the author's where P = ? and S is then the whole set of positive integers. It is also shown that if S = {p1x1prxr : xi = 0, 1, 2,…}, then PkS(n) → 0 as n → ∞.  相似文献

Let {Ai} be a family of sets and let S = ∩iAi. By a positional game we shall mean a game played by two players on {Ai}. The players alternately pick elements of S and that player wins who fist has all the elements of one of the Ai. This paper deals with almost disjoint hypergraphs only, i.e., |AiAj| ? 1 if ij. Let M1(n) be the smallest integer for which there is an almost disjoint n-uniform hypergraph |T| = M1(n), so that the first player has a winning strategy. It is shown that limn [M1(n)]1n = 4, which was conjectured by Erdös. The same method is applied to prove a conjecture of Hales and Jewett on r-dimensional tick-tack-toe if r is large enough. Finally we prove that for an arbitrary almost disjoint n-uniform hypergraph the second player has such a strategy that the first player unable to win in his mth move if m < (2 ? ?)n.  相似文献

In this paper we are constructing a recurrence relation of the form
i=0rωi(k)mk+i{λ} [f] = ω(k)
for integrals (called modified moments)
mk{λ}[f]df=?11 f(x)Ck(λ)(x)dx (k = 0,1,…)
in which Ck(λ) is the k-th Gegenbauer polynomial of order λ(λ > ?12), and f is a function satisfying the differential equation
i=0n Pi(x)f(i)(x) = p(x) (?1?x?1)
of order n, where p0, p1, …, pn ? 0 are polynomials, and mkλ[p] is known for every k. We give three methods of construction of such a recurrence relation. The first of them (called Method I) is optimum in a certain sense.  相似文献

Let (A, G, α) be a C1-dynamical system, where G is abelian, and let φ be an invariant state. Suppose that there is a neighbourhood Ω of the identity in G? and a finite constant κ such that Πi = 1n φ(xi1xi) ? κ Πi = 1n φ(xixi1) whenever xi lies in a spectral subspace Rαi), where Ω1 + … + Ωn ? Ω. This condition of complete spectral passivity, together with self-adjointness of the left kernel of φ, ensures that φ satisfies the KMS condition for some one-parameter subgroup of G.  相似文献

Let A be an n-square normal matrix over C, and Qm, n be the set of strictly increasing integer sequences of length m chosen from 1,…, n. For α,βQm, n denote by A[α|β] the submatrix obtained from A by using rows numbered α and columns numbered β. For k∈{0,1,…,m} write z.sfnc;αβ|=k if there exists a rearrangement of 1,…,m, say i1,…,ik, ik+1,…,im, such that α(ij)=β(ij), j=1,…,k, and {α(ik+1),…,α(im)};∩{β(ik+1),…,β(im)}=ø. Let
be the group of n-square unitary matrices. Define the nonnegative number
?k(A)= maxU∈|det(U1AU) [α|β]|
, where |αβ|=k. Theorem 1 establishes a bound for ?k(A), 0?k<m?1, in terms of a classical variational inequality due to Fermat. Let A be positive semidefinite Hermitian, n?2m. Theorem 2 leads to an interlacing inequality which, in the case n=4, m=2, resolves in the affirmative the conjecture that
?m(A)??m?1(A)????0(A)
