The production of green hydrogen through photocatalytic water splitting is crucial for a sustainable hydrogen economy and chemical manufacturing. However, current approaches suffer from slow hydrogen production (<70 μmol ⋅ gcat−1 ⋅ h−1) due to the sluggish four-electrons oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and limited catalyst activity. Herein, we achieve efficient photocatalytic water splitting by exploiting a multifunctional interface between a nano-photocatalyst and metal–organic framework (MOF) layer. The functional interface plays two critical roles: (1) enriching electron density directly on photocatalyst surface to promote catalytic activity, and (2) delocalizing photogenerated holes into MOF to enhance OER. Our photocatalytic ensemble boosts hydrogen evolution by ≈100-fold over pristine photocatalyst and concurrently produces oxygen at ideal stoichiometric ratio, even without using sacrificial agents. Notably, this unique design attains superior hydrogen production (519 μmol ⋅ gcat−1 ⋅ h−1) and apparent quantum efficiency up to 13-fold and 8-fold better than emerging photocatalytic designs utilizing hole scavengers. Comprehensive investigations underscore the vital role of the interfacial design in generating high-energy photoelectrons on surface-degenerate photocatalyst to thermodynamically drive hydrogen evolution, while leveraging the nanoporous MOF scaffold as an effective photohole sink to enhance OER. Our interfacial approach creates vast opportunities for designing next-generation, multifunctional photocatalytic ensembles using reticular chemistry with diverse energy and environmental applications.  相似文献

Combining the self-sacrifice of a highly crystalline substance to design a multistep chain reaction towards ultrathin active-layer construction for high-performance water splitting with atmospheric-temperature conditions and an environmentally benign aqueous environment is extremely intriguing and full of challenges. Here, taking cobalt carbonate hydroxides (CCHs) as the initial crystalline material, we choose the Lewis acid metal salt of Fe(NO3)3 to induce an aqueous-phase chain reaction generating free CO32− ions with subsequent instant FeCO3 hydrolysis. The resultant ultrathin (∼5 nm) amorphous Fe-based hydroxide layer on CCH results in considerable activity in catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), yielding 10/50 mA ⋅ cm−2 at overpotentials of 230/266.5 mV for OER and 72.5/197.5 mV for HER. The catalysts can operate constantly in 1.0 M KOH over 48 and 45 h for the OER and HER, respectively. For bifunctional catalysis for alkaline electrolyzer assembly, a cell voltage as low as 1.53 V was necessary to yield 10 mA cm−2 (1.7 V at 50 mA cm−2). This work rationally builds high-efficiency electrochemical bifunctional water-splitting catalysts and offers a trial in establishing a controllable nanolevel ultrathin lattice disorder layer through an atmospheric-temperature chemical route.  相似文献

Iron–cobalt phosphomolybdate (FeCoPM12) nanoparticles, which are highly efficient catalytic materials for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), were fabricated through a coprecipitation route. Compared with iron–cobalt hydroxide and state‐of‐the‐art RuO2 electrocatalysts, the as‐prepared FeCoPM12 sample exhibited robust OER catalytic activity with a low overpotential of 258 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of 33 mV dec−1. Moreover, the as‐synthesized sample presented preferable stability and after 10 h at 1.52 V the current density degraded by merely 8.3 %. This is ascribed to the high electrochemical stability and small porous structure of FeCoPM12, which provide effective electron transmission and improve the catalytic performance for OER in alkaline media.  相似文献

A new neutral anion receptor – macrocyclic octalactam 2 , possessing a large 36‐membered ring, was synthesized, and its unusual property of encapsulation of two Cl ions and two H2O molecules in the cavity was confirmed by X‐ray crystallography (see Figure). The octalactam, consisting of four 2,6‐dicarbamoylpyridine and four ethylene moieties, exhibits a symmetrical, fully expanded conformation in the complex [(Cl)2( 2 )(H2O)2]2− (obtained as 2 ⋅2 Bu4NCl⋅4 H2O⋅2 CH2Cl2). Inside the cavity, encapsulated species – two Cl ions and two H2O molecules – are connected to each other by H‐bonds. This kind of complex‐in‐complex system is formed by means of twenty intra‐ring H‐bonds and additionally four from the ‘outside' H2O molecules. Considering size and symmetry, it can be stated that the planar (H2O⋅Cl)2 dimer fits well into the cavity of octalactam 2 . The ligand has an optimal arrangement of binding sites to form H‐bonds to every corner of the dimer.  相似文献

Transition metal single atom electrocatalysts (SACs) with metal-nitrogen-carbon (M−N−C) configuration show great potential in oxygen evolution reaction (OER), whereby the spin-dependent electrons must be allowed to transfer along reactants (OH/H2O, singlet spin state) and products (O2, triplet spin state). Therefore, it is imperative to modulate the spin configuration in M−N−C to enhance the spin-sensitive OER energetics, which however remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a local field distortion induced intermediate to low spin transition by introducing a main-group element (Mg) into the Fe−N−C architecture, and decode the underlying origin of the enhanced OER activity. We unveil that, the large ionic radii mismatch between Mg2+ and Fe2+ can cause a FeN4 in-plane square local field deformation, which triggers a favorable spin transition of Fe2+ from intermediate (dxy2dxz2dyz1dz21, 2.96 μB) to low spin (dxy2dxz2dyz2, 0.95 μB), and consequently regulate the thermodyna-mics of the elementary step with desired Gibbs free energies. The as-obtained Mg/Fe dual-site catalyst demonstrates a superior OER activity with an overpotential of 224 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and an electrolysis voltage of only 1.542 V at 10 mA cm−2 in the overall water splitting, which outperforms those of the state-of-the-art transition metal SACs.  相似文献

Earth-abundant transition metal-based catalysts have been extensively investigated for their applicability in water electrolysers to enable overall water splitting to produce clean hydrogen and oxygen. In this study a Fe−Co based catalyst is electrodeposited in 30 seconds under vigorous hydrogen evolution conditions to produce a high surface area material that is active for both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This catalyst can achieve high current densities of 600 mAcm−2 at an applied potential of 1.6 V (vs RHE) in 1 M NaOH with a Tafel slope value of 48 mV dec−1 for the OER. In addition, the HER can be facilitated at current densities as high as 400 mA cm−2 due to the large surface area of the material. The materials were found to be predominantly amorphous but did contain crystalline regions of CoFe2O4 which became more evident after the OER indicating interesting compositional and structural changes that occur to the catalyst after an electrocatalytic reaction. This rapid method of creating a bimetallic oxide electrode for both the HER and OER could possibly be adopted to other bimetallic oxide systems suitable for electrochemical water splitting.  相似文献

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been considered as potential oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts owning to their ultra-thin structure, adjustable composition, high surface area, and high porosity. Here, we designed and fabricated a vanadium-doped nickel organic framework (V1−x−NixMOF) system by using a facile two-step solvothermal method on nickel foam (NF). The doping of vanadium remarkably elevates the OER activity of V1−x−NixMOF, thus demonstrating better performance than the corresponding single metallic Ni-MOF, NiV-MOF and RuO2 catalysts at high current density (>400 mA cm−2). V0.09−Ni0.91MOF/NF provides a low overpotential of 235 mV and a small Tafel slope of 30.3 mV dec−1 at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. More importantly, a water-splitting device assembled with Pt/C/NF and V0.09−Ni0.91MOF/NF as cathode and anode yielded a cell voltage of 1.96 V@1000 mA cm−2, thereby outperforming the-state-of-the-art RuO2(+)||Pt/C(−). Our work sheds new insight on preparing stable, efficient OER electrocatalysts and a promising method for designing various MOF-based materials.  相似文献

Developing efficient non‐noble metal and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts with tunable microstructures for overall water splitting is critical to promote clean energy technologies for a hydrogen economy. Herein, novel three‐dimensional (3D) flower‐like Ni2P composed of mesoporous nanoplates with controllable morphology and high surface area was prepared by a hydrothermal method and low‐temperature phosphidation as efficient electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Compared with the urchin‐like Nix Py , the 3D flower‐like Ni2P with a diameter of 5 μm presented an efficient and stable catalytic performance in 0.5 m H2SO4, with a small Tafel slope of 79 mV dec−1 and an overpotential of about 240 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 with a mass loading density of 0.283 mg cm−2. In addition, the catalyst also exhibited a remarkable performance for the OER in 1.0 m KOH electrolyte, with an overpotential of 320 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of 72 mV dec−1. The excellent catalytic performance of the as‐prepared Ni2P may be ascribed to its novel 3D morphology with unique mesoporous structure.  相似文献

Trimetallic oxyhydroxides are one of the most effective materials for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysis, a key process for water splitting. Herein, we describe a facile wet‐chemical method to directly grow a series of coralloid trimetallic oxyhydroxides on arbitrary substrates such as nickel foam (NF) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The amount of iron in these oxyhydroxide sponges on NF and CNTs was precisely controlled, revealing that the electrocatalytic activity of the WCoFe trimetallic oxyhydroxides depends on the Fe amount in a volcano‐like fashion. The optimized W0.5Co0.4Fe0.1/NF catalyst exhibited an overpotential of only 310 mV to deliver a large current density of 100 mA cm−2 and a very low Tafel slope of 32 mV dec−1. It also showed superior stability with negligible activity decay after use in the OER for 21 days (>500 h). X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the addition of Fe leads to an on average lower Co oxidation state, which contributes to the enhanced OER performance.  相似文献

Late transition metal-bonded atomic oxygen radicals (LTM−O⋅) have been frequently proposed as important active sites to selectively activate and transform inert alkane molecules. However, it is extremely challenging to characterize the LTM−O⋅-mediated elementary reactions for clarifying the underlying mechanisms limited by the low activity of LTM−O⋅ radicals that is inaccessible by the traditional experimental methods. Herein, benefiting from our newly-designed ship-lock type reactor, the reactivity of iron-vanadium bimetallic oxide cluster anions FeV3O10 and FeV5O15 featuring with Fe−O⋅ radicals to abstract a hydrogen atom from C2−C4 alkanes has been experimentally characterized at 298 K, and the rate constants are determined in the orders of magnitude of 10−14 to 10−16 cm3 molecule−1 s−1, which are four orders of magnitude slower than the values of counterpart ScV3O10 and ScV5O15 clusters bearing Sc−O⋅ radicals. Theoretical results reveal that the rearrangements of the electronic and geometric structures during the reaction process function to modulate the activity of Fe−O⋅. This study not only quantitatively characterizes the elementary reactions of LTM−O⋅ radicals with alkanes, but also provides new insights into structure-activity relationship of M−O⋅ radicals.  相似文献

Hydrogen energy is considered as one of the ideal clean energies for solving the energy shortage and environmental issues, and developing highly efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting to produce hydrogen is still a huge challenge. Herein, for the first time, Ru-doped Cu2+1O vertically arranged nanotube arrays in situ grown on Cu foam (Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF) are reported and further investigated for their catalytic properties for overall water splitting. The Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF presents ultrahigh catalytic activities for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline conditions, and it exhibits a small overpotential of 32 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in the HER, and only needs 210 mV overpotential to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in the OER. Importantly, the alkaline electrolyzer using Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF as a bifunctional electrocatalyst only needs 1.53 V voltage to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which is much lower than the benchmark of IrO2(+)/Pt(−) counterpart (1.64 V at 10 mA cm−2). The excellent performance of the Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF catalyst is attributed to its high conductive substrate and special Ru-doped nanotube structure, which provides a high electrochemical active surface area and 3D gas diffusion channel.  相似文献

The development of technologically viable electrodes for the electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a major bottleneck in chemical energy conversion. This article describes a facile one‐step hydrothermal route to deposit microcrystals of a robust Dexter–Silverton polyoxometalate oxygen evolution catalyst, [Co6.8Ni1.2W12O42(OH)4(H2O)8], on a commercial nickel foam electrode. The electrode shows efficient and sustained electrochemical oxygen evolution at low overpotentials (360 mV at 10 mA cm−2 against RHE, Tafel slope 126 mV dec−1, faradaic efficiency (96±5) %) in alkaline aqueous solution (pH 13). Post‐catalytic analyses show no mechanical or chemical degradation and no physical detachment of the microcrystals. The results provide a blueprint for the stable “wiring” of POM catalysts to commercial metal foam substrates, thus giving access to technologically relevant composite OER electrodes.  相似文献

Cobalt disulfide (CoS2) has been explored as attractive electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, bulk CoS2 sheets have limited catalytic activity due to low exposure of active sites. Herein, through an in-situ vulcanization approach, CoS2 nanoparticles are embedded into bipyridine-containing covalent organic polymer (BP-COP). The as-prepared nanocomposite CoS2@BP-COP exhibits high catalytic activity toward OER with an ultra-low overpotential of 270 mV (vs. RHE) at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, a small Tafel slope of 36 mV dec−1, and an excellent durability for 24 h without decay. The surface of CoS2 is partially converted into CoOOH to form CoS2/CoOOH as active sites under OER conditions. CoS2@BP-COP displays superior OER catalytic activity to CoS2 nanosheets and commercially available RuO2 under the same conditions. The outstanding OER performance activity of CoS2@BP-COP could be attributed to the uniform and small particle sizes of CoS2/CoOOH distributed in BP-COP.  相似文献

Controllable synthesis and rational design of ordered nanostructures are crucial for their renewable energy applications. In this work, a mesoporous CoP/Fe2P doped with 5 % Ce by a simple nanocasting method is designed as a superior electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The well-designed composite delivers an efficient electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential of 250 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and excellent long-term stability with no degradation after 10 h of electrochemical OER test, superior to that of the state-of-the-art RuO2 electrocatalyst in alkaline electrolyte. A comprehensive analysis demonstrates that the outstanding OER performance is due to the desirable combination of the highly exposed active centers in the Ce-doped bimetallic phosphides, efficient mass transfer, and effective electron conduction owing to the hierarchically mesoporous hybridization. Furthermore, the synergistic effect between Ce and CoP/Fe2P accelerates the migration rate of electrons/ions and increases the electrochemical active area. This excellent OER performance observed by Ce doping of CoP/Fe2P makes them possible candidates toward OER in alkaline electrolytes.  相似文献

Synthesis of highly active and durable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts applied in acidic water electrolysis remains a grand challenge. Here, we construct a type of high-loading iridium single atom catalysts with tunable d-band holes character (h-HL−Ir SACs, ∼17.2 wt % Ir) realized in the early OER operation stages. The in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy reveals that the quantity of the d-band holes of Ir active sites can be fast increased by 0.56 unit from the open circuit to a low working potential of 1.35 V. More remarkably, in situ synchrotron infrared and Raman spectroscopies demonstrate the quick accumulation of *OOH and *OH intermediates over holes-modulated Ir sites in the early reaction voltages, achieving a rapid OER kinetics. As a result, this well-designed h-HL−Ir SACs exhibits superior performance for acidic OER with overpotentials of 216 mV @10 mA cm−2 and 259 mV @100 mA cm−2, corresponding to a small Tafel slope of 43 mV dec−1. The activity of catalyst shows no evident attenuation after 60 h operation in acidic environment. This work provides some useful hints for the design of superior acidic OER catalysts.  相似文献

Developing efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is paramount to the energy conversion and storage devices. However, the structural complexity of heterogeneous electrocatalysts makes it a great challenge to elucidate the dynamic structural evolution and OER mechanisms. Here, we develop a controllable atom-trapping strategy to extract isolated Mo atom from the amorphous MoOx-decorated CoSe2 (a-MoOx@CoSe2) pre-catalyst into Co-based oxyhydroxide (Mo-CoOOH) through an ultra-fast self-reconstruction process during the OER process. This conceptual advance has been validated by operando characterizations, which reveals that the initially rapid Mo leaching can expedite the dynamic reconstruction of pre-catalyst, and simultaneously trap Mo species in high oxidation state into the lattice of in situ generated CoOOH support. Impressively, the OER kinetics of CoOOH has been greatly accelerated after the reverse decoration of Mo species, in which the Mo-CoOOH affords a markedly decreased overpotential of 297 mV at the current density of 100 mA cm−2. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the Co species have been greatly activated via the effective electron coupling with Mo species in high oxidation state. These findings open new avenues toward directly synthesizing atomically dispersed electrocatalysts for high-efficiency water splitting.  相似文献

The mismatched fast-electron-slow-proton process in the electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) severely restricts the catalytic efficiency. To overcome these issues, accelerating the proton transfer and elucidating the kinetic mechanism are highly sought after. Herein, inspired by photosystem II, we develop a family of OER electrocatalysts with FeO6/NiO6 units and carboxylate anions (TA2−) in the first and second coordination sphere, respectively. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the metal units and TA2−, the optimized catalyst delivers superior activity with a low overpotential of 270 mV at 200 mA cm−2 and excellent cycling stability over 300 h. A proton-transfer-promotion mechanism is proposed by in situ Raman, catalytic tests, and theoretical calculations. The TA2− (proton acceptor) can mediate proton transfer pathways by preferentially accepting protons, which optimizes the O−H adsorption/activation process and reduces the kinetic barrier for O−O bond formation.  相似文献

It is vitally important to develop highly active, robust and low-cost transition metal-based electrocatalysts for overall water splitting in neutral solution especially at large current density. In this work, amorphous Mo-doped NiS0.5Se0.5 nanosheets@crystalline NiS0.5Se0.5 nanorods (Am−Mo−NiS0.5Se0.5) was synthesized using a facil one-step strategy. In phosphate buffer saline solution, the Am−Mo−NiS0.5Se0.5 shows tiny overpotentials of 48 and 209 mV for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), 238 and 514 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at 10 and 1000 mA cm−2, respectively. Moreover, Am−Mo−NiS0.5Se0.5 delivers excellent stability for at least 300 h without obvious degradation. Theoretical calculations revealed that the Ni sites in the defect-rich amorphous structure of Am−Mo−NiS0.5Se0.5 owns higher electron state density and strengthened the binding energy of H2O, which will optimize H adsorption/desorption energy barriers and reduce the adsorption energy of OER determining step.  相似文献

Design and synthesis of low-cost and efficient bifunctional catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in Zn-air batteries are essential and challenging. We report a facile method to synthesize heterostructure carbon consisting of graphitic and amorphous carbon derived from the agricultural waste of red bean pods. The heterostructure carbon possesses a large surface area of 625.5 m2 g−1, showing ORR onset potential of 0.89 V vs. RHE and OER overpotential of 470 mV at 5 mA cm−2. Introducing hollow FeCo nanoparticles and nitrogen dopant improves the bifunctional catalytic activity of the carbon, delivering ORR onset potential of 0.93 V vs. RHE and OER overpotential of 360 mV. Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) O K-edge map suggests the presence of localized oxygen on the FeCo nanoparticles, suggesting the oxidation of the nanoparticles. Zn-air battery with these carbon-based catalysts exhibits a peak power density as high as 116.2 mW cm−2 and stable cycling performance over 210 discharge/charge cycles. This work contributes to the advancement of bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts while converting agricultural waste into value-added material.  相似文献
